Day 13

Today we began reading The Crucible. Hopefully, you understood what was going on and how Reverend Parris was concerned for his well being and how Mr. Putnam used the beginning of the hysteria to begin making personal gains as well. Keep an eye on the characters and how they use this witch hunt for gain.

Think of a time when false rumors damaged a person’s reputation. How easy was it for people to believe the rumors? How did the accused person react? What were the results of the false rumors?

False rumors damages peoples lives thyousands of times. Some major time periods dealing with this subject was the red scare and during the puritan time period. It was very easy for some one to accuse someone of something untrue. All the person wopuld have to do to falsely accuse some one of something was to say something like "This person is a Witch!" And bam, that person is now going downhill in life. That person may suffer greatly for that false accusing. That person may lose their job, reputation, relationships with people, and more. I think the accused person would act shocked and repulsed. Whether that person did it or not, they would be mad at who ever accused them. They will want revenge, so they could go back and say that the person that accused them of that of actualy being the "witch." And thus begins a cycle of false accusings. Which will lead to great downfall in society in my opinion.

One time period when this was happening was the red scare. Everybody was afraid of communism and people would name peoples names and accuse them of being communist. people would accept what was told without to much thought and it didnt take much evidence or proof. They did this because they were frighten of communist and of being accused themselves. this resulted in more fear. usually the accused person would accept that he was communist because he new he couldn't do much about it. When someone was acused there life could realy be screwd up. people would stop talking to them, they would loos there jobs, couldnt get jobs etc.

Usually false rumors start because someone doesn't like someone or the other person did something bad to them and they want to get back at them. Usually the accused ends up getting hurt but rumors eventually blow over. Some take longer them others. To believe a rumor is very easy. I don't believe something someone tells me about someone unless it comes from the person themselves. The acused usually react vengfuly and it starts a cycle. False rumors can develope emotinal issues or lack of self esteem. If its not true brush it off and don't react and no one will have fun with it anymore.

False rumors are the bottem of the bottem. Starting them are truely the lowest thing a person can possibly do. They anger me to think about. False rumors are started by people who have nothing better to do and are holding a gruge or just are bored. Those people arent the people you want to be friends with. The victum of a false rumor will feel like they have been betrayed and will feel trapped. People will believe anything that they hear. People are cruel, they are judgemental, and not understanding. If the false rumor is bad enough, it can destroy a reputaution. Avoid these situations at all costs. Help anyone who is victumized by this.

Rumors in general are a nasty thing. I've seen and even heard rumors today where peoples reputations have been soiled by nasty words being smudged on their name. Now i myself never tried to spread rumors and nor have i seen that many reactions of people to the rumors. But i do know that such accusations are not only bad on that person's name if innocent. But it also puts in a bad word on the people who spread rumors. Nobody wants to be friends with someone they think they cant trust. Then again, such foul things as rumors are only a part of our human nature~.

Starting a rumor is as low as someone could get. Most of the time this happens when a person wants to get back at someone. When someone has a eumor started about them they feel locked out of society. Everyone continuously asks about it and even when they arent you know theyre talking about it behind your back. When it comes to rumors lets get real people believe almost anything you tell them as long as its realistic. The accused person usually feels lost cause they dont kow who they can trust anymore. Most importan the results of a rumor can damage someones personal life for awhile.

False rumors can ruin a persons life. One example that i can think of would be O.J. Simpson. At one point, O.J. was a great football player. After he was done with football, his wife dies. People automatically started blaming him for murdering his wife. The media helped people believe these rumors. The accused person, O.J. denyed killing his wife plenty of times. The results, in this case, was that he was proven innocent. Although he was proven innocent, may people still believed that he was guilty.

All throughout historey there have been false rumors that have damaged a persons reputation or even killed them. One time is during the Salem witch trials. These rumors were easy to believe and to start. Usually the time when this happened was a dificult time for people. During the red scare people were afraid of comunism. During the which trials they were afraid of witches. It was easy to believe these rumors because everyone was afraid at the time it happened. The accused person then became confused and surprsied. These false rumors then ruiened the persons life. I the person was living in the time of witches they would be tested and sometimes killed. In the time of the red scare the people would lose their job and all the people they cared about. They then would have a very difficult time finding jobs too. Over all creating a flase rumor is a terible thing some one can do. Most of the time they do this just to get something they don't have and that they want.

False rumors can damage peoples reputations. Many people are gullable and they usually believe any rumors they hear. When there is a rumor, the accused person always denies it or sometimes admits to it. The results of rumors is people just drop it or the accused person is known for what they are accused of. I know many people who's reputation was damaged because of one rumor about them. I know for a fact that it wasn't even true. I just hope that there is never a rumor that damages my reputation.

Rumors are spread all the time. It is so easy for people to belive in rumors. I think this is because no one ever really goes straight up to the person and asks if the rumors are true. They just belive what they have heard and spread it on. A time where this happened was in the 1600s when people belived in witchs. Back then you could just accuse someone of being a witch and they would be sent to jail no questions asked. The accused people would obviously say they didn't do it and the results of this would be them probably getting killed.

over the past there has always been false rumors. like McCarthy did with the red scare. he told evryone that communism was coming to america and scared everyone. he would call a person a communist for the dumbest things. the people that were accused would be shunned and no one would talk to them. the accused people would react in harsh manners some even took there life. the results of that false rumor lead to a hurt nation. that is how i think red scare is a false rummor.

Rumors always lead to conflict. When rumors are spread there is a 75% chance people will believe the rumor. It's even higher when they don't know that person. The accused will almost always deny the rumor and seem as if it was ridiculous that the accusation was even made in the first place. I've seen it a hundred times and if someone is smart they wouldn't believe it unless it came from the accused person themselves. Usually this kind of thing ends in misery because first off the accused gets pissed at the source of the rumor: the starter. But also, they get pissed at the people who believed the rumors: the spreaders. So everyone is mad at everyone and retaliation starts. People start spreading untrue exaggerated stories that are of course false to get back at one another, which once again ends in conflict so it's a never ending circle. The best idea is to stay out of it and pretend you've never even heard the rumor in the first place.

False rumors are spread about people all the time. People find it very possible to believe the rumors because they know background knowledge on the person being accused and they are too afraid to go up and ask them if it's true that they just believe it. Usually when a person is accused, they try to deny it. They will start making excuses and try to hide it. As a result from the rumors, a lot of the time the accused will say a rumor back to the person who said the rumor. Then either the two get a huge fight or they get all of their friends in a fight. Another result is now that there are people taking sides and the people you thought were your friends are on the other person's side. Overall, false rumors can lead a lot to oneself.

False rumors can always make a person's reputation a lot worse than it was before the rumor, but there are also minor cases of it. There could be not very nice rumors going around, and it could have very minimal affect on your repuatation. It depends on the how bad the rumor is to see how easy the people will believe it or not. If it is something crazy that, that person might not do, its most likely to be less believable. But if it is somthing that they seem like they would do, then more people are going to believe it. When someone finds out there has been false rumors going around about them and they find out, it pretty much just makes them feel like crap. You don't want people saying things about you that aren't true. The results of false rumors can either end good or bad. Sometimes they're good because people know that you wouldnt do such a thing and stick up for you and then hopefully good rumors spread, or people won't do anything about it but tell other people, which makes everything a whole lot worse. Rumors are never really a good thing, and most of the time end up badly and hurting someones reputation.

Rumors are awful. Such a small thing can do so much. I don't understand how a person can make something up and feel okay about it. I wonder what possesses them to want to destroys someone's reputation. A rumor gets started by someone who is bored with their life and they think making something up about another person will be something new and exciting. Well at least that's what I think. Or the person that is starting the rumor is jealous, or holding a grudge, or they are just a complete bitch. Even if I hated someone, I would never make something up about them. It definitely wouldn't make me feel any better about myself to hurt another person. The victim of a false rumore feels trapped, lost, mad and confused. I think the people that believe rumors are just as stupid as the person that started it. The results of a false rumor can be small or big. If you are someone that doesn't let things get to you it won't effect you as much.

Rumors are a nasty thing that have been around for a long time. People can get physically and mentally harmed from rumors. A couple of examples would be the Holocaust and the Red Scare. The Holocaust started with the rumor that the Jews were the ones who caused Germany to lose WWI. Millions of Jews were killed because of one little rumor. The Red Scarewas just as bad as the Holocaust except people weren't killed. Many Americans lost their jobs because of this. Most people were thought to be Communists, which wasn't true. Rumors will always be around. I hope all of the rumors going around these days will die down.
