Cardmarking 3, Day 1

There are 3 major events that are celebrating their anniversary today:

Dec. 1, 1913- The first service station opened (later known as a gas station)
Dec. 1, 1955- Rosa Parks chose not to move to the back of the bus in Montogmery Alabama.
Dec. 1, 1969- The first people were drafted for the Vietnam War.

Choose one of these events and tell why you think they were significant to the time they occurred as well why they are still significant today. Then, tell how your chosen event impacts your life today.

Probably more than 7 sentences.

The event of Rosa Parks not moving to the back of the bus On December 1, 1955 is a very significant event. This event was very suprising during its time because no one had ever done that before. It was just known that blacks sit in the back and whites sit up front. No one had refused to obey that law before her. She started the revolution of blacks freedom. Her small act of independence started all the small acts of independence by blacks and after time they have all come together to be what it is today. Yes there is still racism and that will never end because you can't change somebody's opion. But there is no more violence toward them and African Americans now have all the same rights as White Americans. This event has impacted my life today because i have a couple really good friends who are African American and if this event never happened, there might not be free blacks today. My friends might've not been my friends today if Rosa Parks didn't stand up for what she belived in. Rosa Parks was a very strong beliver in what she thought was right and i'm glad she is, or the days of 2009 might be different.

The event of Rosa Parks was a significant event. This really made a difference in that day because no other black person would ever think of doing this. She refused to give up her seat for a white person. Honestly if that was me I would do the same thing. Her one little act made a difference for black people then and today. Maybe if she wouldn't have done that the blacks and whites may not have been united. She helped make a change for black people's freedom. I have many african american freinds and some family members and I love them all. If Rosa Parks hadn't done what she did do you think I would have these african american friends and family members.

Rosa Parks has been a driving force that has sparked movement of many African Americans. today is the anniversary the anniversary of the courageous act that Rosa Parks has done. Dec. 1, 1955 Rosa Parks got on a Montgomery bus after a long day at work, but soon to find out a white man gets on the bus and tells her to move, she didn't like this and refused, then later put in jail. i chose this topic because of how this one event caused a movement that has lasted a life time. the significance of this event is how it still effects the modern age we live in today. today there is no segregation or racism in our government now African Americans can vote and lead a harmless life. that is why i chose to write about Rosa Parks who has been a iconic figure to many people.

Rosa Parks not moving to the back of the bus was a big factor in everyones life today. It was one of the first movements for equal rights to black. Back then black people weren't treated as fairly as the others. they had to use different restrooms and mony other things. What happened is still significant today because blacks are still getting treated fairly. Now a days we have a black president, Barack Obama. If this never happened he wouldn't be the president. Also a few of my friends might not be my friends any more if this didn't happened. This event was very historical and will continue to be historical for a very long time.

The opening of the first service station opening had much significance on the average American's life; both good and bad. Back when this opened in December of 1913, people must of been excited and anxious to try out this new way of fueling transportation. It made life easier and people could get around with ease. No bikes, scooters, or walking from place to place. The car became most popular. In my life, the opening of this first service station had impact on me because I drive cars and it is also my way of transportation. If it wasn't for the local gas station, I would literally get no where. I'm pretty thankful for the fuel that we use to fill our gas tanks. However, the opening of this gas station has had a negative long term impact on our environment. Global warming is the cause of all cars using this type of gas. The next new phenomenon will hopefully be a new type of oil that will be less harmful to the environment, like corn oil. So as you can see, this gas station has helped out many people but the long term idea of this will have to change for the environment's sake.

Dec. 1, 1913 was a very benificial day. The first service center opened up, so many people were probibly extatic about the opening of the center. I think we take the gas station for granted. If we didn't have them would we even be driving cars still? I think probibly not unless we found some way to make cars run differently. Im thankful for these stations. They provide more then gas, they also can provide possibly snacks drinks tune ups and maybe even a car wash. The world would be a completely different place without these wonderful places. We would have a lot less fat people int he U.S. because everyone would eather probibly be walking or rideing bikes everywhere. Like in chicago and new york, i went to chicago for a week we had to walk everywhere. You would wake up and your legs would kill and you wouldn't want to move. Anyways back to the first station. I will be driving myself soon so i really depend on them to make my car run and i depend on my car to get me where i need to go.

Rosa Parks refusing to move to the back of the bus, December 1st, 1955, quit a significant even indeed. The moment was quit a shock to all due to the fact of no one having done such a thing before. Traditionally in that time blacks where required to sit at the back while whites sat at the front of the bus. Rosa Parks with that action had began a riot towards black freedom. One action was all it took to start a chain of independence with other black people to which led to the unity of our day. There is still racists around that'll stick to our society no matter how much we want it gone. Yet now such rechid things as slavery and abuse towards blacks are gone(for the most part) and there is quit a stable balance of rights between blacks and whites. To this day if Rosa Parks hadn't stood up for her own beliefs, i may not have ever gotten the chance to be able to explore such wide variates of African American culture, aswell as having quit some interesting acquaintances. If Rosa Parks hadn't done what she did and gone to the back of the bus. How would things be diffrent to this day?

The first service station opening was a huge step in technology. The event was significant to the 1910's because the invention of cars was coming up. Those cars would run off the gas these stations gave. They are still significant today because if you didn't have a gas station around every 10 miles or so, cars would run out of gas a lot more then they do with more gas stations closer together. This event impacts our life greatly especially with the economy right now. Most of us will start driving soon. We will all need to stop by the gas station (or service station back then) and fill up.

Without the efforts of Rosa Parks in 1955, the struggle for blacks' rights would have not been jump-started like it was. Rosa Parks refused to remove herself from a bus seat 54 years ago. This was significant because it was a seat that was in the front of the bus: the white section. Back then, blacks didn't have he rights that whites did so they had to sit at the back of the bus, and the whites in the front. When Rosa was asked to move, she refused. This was not heard of, a black denying a white. Rosa Parks was arrested sent to jail. When people, especially, blacks heard of this, they were appalled. It created an uproar. Today, people see it as a historical mark. It effects me because as I learn about it in school I see her as a hero for blacks. Because of her, I can go to the same school and become friends with blacks. She has made it possible for blacks to have equal rights for blacks. Rosa Parks really has made a difference in the world.

The day that Rosa Parks refused to give up her bus seat on a Montgomery, Alabama bus was very significant. It is significant because she helped with the Civil Rights Movement. If she moved to the back of the bus then things would be different these days. This event impacts my life today because many people are prejudiced against. Prejudice is not the right way to go. The race that is prejudiced against the nost are the African Americans. I hope people stop being prejudists.

i think that today is because we had our frist gas station. this is importian because we wou out thatwithld not have cars. without cars would have a lot less job. we would have no real way of long distance travel. with out gas stations we would be in old fashion type of town no one liveing far out of the town.also it provides us some shelter when we need it. that is why i think it is importian to have our gas statition.

The event of Rosa Parks choosing not to move from her bus seat is something that changed the lives of many people. The laws stated that blacks were to give up there seat if a white person wanted it. It was known that whites sat in the front of the bus, and blacks sat in the back. No black had ever disobeyed this law. I'm pretty sure she started the bus boycott. That was a big deal back in the day. At the time, blacks were still discriminated against, and Rosa Parks along with other blacks started to rebel against the segregation laws. Without Rosa Parks, our world still might be filled with violence and racism towards different races.

Rosa Parks was one of the wheels that got the civil rights movement started on December 1, 1955. She refused to give up her bus seat to a white man and it got an uproar started. Without Rosa Parks, it may be possible that people of all races do not have civil rights. After Rosa then came MLK Jr. and he picked up where Rosa left off. This was significant to the time period because back in the day, there were no civil rights. Blacks and whites were always seperated and that's just the way things went. This greatly impacts my life because if it wasn't for the civil rights movement, I may not have some friends I do today. Also, our schools would be segregated and all public places would be so it would just be whites everywhere I went. Overall, Rosa Parks should be commemorated for her great efforts.

Rosa Parks refusing to give up her seat to a white man that day is very significant. She did something that she strongly believed in and look where that got us today. Because she refused to give up her seat and went through all that trouble, she helped contribute to the fact that blacks and whites are equal today. She was very brave to do something like this. Nobody else ever had at that time. It was a huge deal. It is still significant today because it was the first time any african american had ever really stood up for themselves. This event impacts my life and everyone around me because now we treat everyone the same and everyone is equal.

Rosa Parks an african american choosing not to move on the bus for a superior white (at the time) was and still is a big event. I think the action Rosa Parks took was significant in that time frame because blacks were supposed to be under control of whites. When Rosa did not move from a seat when a white asked was a huge action because she stood up for herself even though her skin was not the shade of white. This event is still significant today because it was a step in the process of all americans being equal. If Rosa didnt take this action all americans being free probably still would have happened it would have just taken longer. This event impacts my life today because it always reminds me to stand up for what i believe in and what i believe is right. Without Rosa most of us wouldnt have a lot of courage or voice.

The first service station opened (later known as the gas station).
This was important to people in this time because it made it where everyday people could get gas instead of just big business'. People got more jobs beacuse of the first service station opening. This event is still important because it effects our travels. Everyone uses these to get gas nomatter where there going. This event impacts my life in two way. One way is that now proplr can get gas to go places. Secondly if this never happen evryone would probly still be walking.
The first service station open is an important part of history.
