For this evening, look at "The Crucible" anticipation/reaction guide that we did today in class the other day. Pick any 2 of the 10 statements and explain how they are present in the story thus far. Also, how do the statements you picked effect the way that the Puritan's lived their life?

One statement that is already used in the story is "the difference between right and wrong is clear." This is stated when the girls are danceing in the woods. Everyone is mad at them for danceing because they can be accused as witches but if they were danceing in their house it wouldn't matter. The place in which they are danceing then makes it wrong which to them maybe unclear. Another statement already proposed in the story is "a person is innocent until proven guilty." This is shown when the girls are accused for being witches. The people of the village have no proof of the girls doing witch craft. Even though Betty is hurt/cursed it might be because the guy that descovered them danceing jumped out from behind the bushes. This event then could have put Betty into shock then haveing her pass out. For them to be able to punish the girls they should get more evedince from the scene and try to figure out what really happened.
The crucible make many statements true on the study sheet. One of the statements are "the difference between right and wrong is clear." this represents the story so far because Abagail is constantly making decisions whether to lie or not to lie. Most people in the 1600's did this because there family name was at stake. another example is one that is false about the story so far is "a person is innocent until proven guilty." this one is diffidently wrong because of how in the 1600's people could say what ever they wanted about witch craft and people believe it they were all to gullible. this is how i think that the quotes match the story so far.
One statement that already has been used in the story is "you are innocent until proven guilty." This has already been proven false in the story. Abigail did go into the woods and do some kind of witchcraft to kill the proctor's wife. But she is going around to people telling them she did absolutly nothing, but the town doesn't belive her, they belive she is a witch. They have no real proof yet, but they are automatically beliving that she is one. Another statement already shown in the story is "the difference between right and wrong is clear." This has also been proven false so far in the story. Abigail and her friends went into the woods and "danced" anyways although they may have known it was wrong. Even afterwards they feel it is wrong but they are lying about it to cover for themselves. This is wrong but they are doing it as if it is right.
One of the statements that have been proven wrong is the fact that "A person is innocent until proven guilty". This has been proven wrong by the fact that enayone accused of being a witch is automatically guilty. That is never the right way to go, but it's what they believed. Another statement is that "There more than one way to interpret the Bible". The Puritans thought that there was only one way to interpret the Bible. Different people have different ways of interpreting the Bible. There are many different statements than these, but these were the best I could do.

One of the statements that is proven this far is someone would lie to save their life instead of dieing for what you believe in. Abigail lies about some of the stuff that went on in the woods and she was planing on blaming the slave for it. She was going to do this to save herself. Another statement that is not proven in the story is innocent until proven gulity. Abigail was lying about what happened in the woods and no one believed her. They thought she was guilty without proving she was innocent. Maybe this affected the puritans in Abigails village because they knew they coldn't trust her any more.
In the crucible they use many of the statements on the sheet. one of which is the difference between right and wrong is clear. They no that witch craft is wrong and evil. they also no that the forest and the west is evil. Also that the Indians are evil. This afects there way of life because now there life stile is very black and wight, good or bad and you have to be good to live with them. Another statement present in the snory is inicent until proven guilty. Well kind of, they investigate when someone is labeld a witch by others until they find sufficient proof and evidence to convict the person as a witch. The evidence dosent have to be much, and it dosint have to be real prof it can be someones word. This is still going by innocent until proven guilty but not very strongly. this affects there lives because it is realy easy to condemn someone as a witch evin with that statement.
One that i think was demonstrated in the story already "A person is innocent until proven guilty." This is shown because everyone is accusing Betty of having whichcraft and they have no evidence of it yet. They are all assuming something weird happened in the woods but they have no proof yet. So how can they say its true? Another one is someone would rather lie and save their life than die for what you believe in. This is shown because Paris is so concerned about his reputation if his daughter has witchcraft that he is pretty much lieing about it, when he knows it is a strong possibility.
