For this evening, look at "The Crucible" anticipation/reaction guide that we did today in class. Pick any 2 of the 10 statements and explain why you answered the way that you did. Also, how do the statements you picked effect the way that people act within society?

I believe that a person is innocent until proven guilty. This is true because there may be some evidence that you did it even though you didn't. Also if you would get put into jail for life and you didn't do it then it wouldn't be good. People should be 100% sure that they did it when they convit them. I also believe that it is more dificult to forgive yourself if the person you have hurt doesn't forgive you. If you purposely hurt some one then they might not ever forgive you. If that happens its hard to forgive yourself because that person still remembers how it felt and it must have hurt them really bad if they won't forgive you.
The crucible in my opinion is a big knowledge bank that has the most wise things ever said. there are two sentences in the reading guide that i find the most ecstatic. one of those statements were "a person is innocent until proven guilty" this statement in my opinion is completely wrong most of the time cops see the evidence right in front of them. for an example if there is a car chase are you going to say oh i don't know if he did it it could have been the imaginary friend, no it is obviously him. another quote i think is funny is "justice is best determined in court" this is a no brain-er obviously this is false. the reason is because did super-man or spider-man ever go to court and ask for a slip saying that when they fight bad guys its called justice, no justice can only be interpreted by how you see it. they can affect many people in life by how some people think that people should always be innocent until proven guilty and how some people think that there is no justice until it goes through the courts.
for me i belive that a person is innocent until proven guilty and that which dosen't destroy us only makes us stronger. i chose belive that a person is innocent until proven guilty because i think this i think it is wrong to go acuseing people of something they may not have done. this affect our socity by being apart of our americans rights. i chose that which dosen't destroy us only makes us stronger because i belive that once you have tryied something hard it makes you stronger inside. this effects our socity because if we did not try any thing hard we would be no where in life. that is what i think about these two quotes from "The Crucible".
"It is better to die for what you belive in rather than lie to save your life." I belive this quote is false. I personally don't belive in anything strong enough that i am willing to die for. I can't imagine just dying for a belief. I'm not very religious and i don't belive in certain belifs very strongly. I'm more of a go with the flow type of person. "The difference between right and wrong is clear" is also another statement i belive to be false. There's a fine line between right and wrong. Something that someone belives is right, could be viewed as wrong in another person's eyes. These statements act within society because they are something that could effect the way a person lives out their life. If you belive that killing people is right, then that is definetly going to effect the community if people start getting murdered left and right. These statements could be what some people live their life by, guidelines you could say.
From all these statements, I dont know how they are all going to tie into one story. The crucible looks like it would be a good read from this sheet. Some of these statements are extremely false however. The statement, Justice is best determined in court, is a prime example of this. In my opinion, if Jon kills Bob, Jon should be killed, not put in prison for the rest of his life. The government should go by the slogan, "An eye for an eye". Another lie would be that the difference between right and wrong is clear. For example, somebody might believe that it is completely wrong to kill somebody when another person would say that if somebody was trying to hurt you or your family members, you could use self defense. Another example would be stealing. You might think it is 100% wrong to steal something from someone, when the homeless man down the street would do anything to steal some food to eat.
i disagree with the statement that the difference between right and wrong is clear.i disagree with it because what is right and worng is determined buy the person who is determining it. The reson for this is pecause people are brought up differently and have differint values. For example someone who was brought up hunting probably feels that it is okay to were animal furs. wile some one from peta might have been brought up vegetarian and baleavs that it is rong to wear them. I also disagree about the statement that beliefs in opposition to common values should be illegal. That is clearly false to me, because as long as its not hurting anyone around them its ok with me. many things in the united states would be illegal if this were true. These affect people because deciding what is right and rong ocurs in every day life for everyone. Also the second one goes with how gay marige is illegal because it opposes the common values of marige between a man and a woman.
The first statement from The Crucible that im going to do is "the difference between right and wrong is client." I think this statement is wrong. Pretty much because what you think is right and wrong, could be one hundred percent different then what some one else thinks is right and wrong. So for instance you could be doing something you think is completely fine to do. But some one else thinks what you did or are doing is horribly wrong. The other statement I'm going to talk about is "It is better to die for what you believe in rather then to lie to save your life." I think this comment is right. I think its right because if you die for what you believe in, you'll die happy. Rather then lieing to save your life. Now you have to live with that lie for the rest of your life. Then your dieing with the regret of a lie over dieing happily.
One of the statements I chose was the difference between right and wrong and I agree with it. When you make a decision you know if it is right or wrong. Sometimes when you do something wrong it sometimes doesn't matter, but sometimes it can. The other statement I chose was a person is innocent until proven guilty. I also think this one is true. You can't go around accusing someone of something that you don't know if they did it or not. These two statements ichose effect the way people act within society. Not eveyone thinks it matters if something is right or wrong, they will still do something if it is wrong. Also, people always accuse people of other things even though they don't know if they did it or not.
The first statement in which I do not believe is "there is only one way to interpret the Bible". I am a strong Catholic and I have read many readings from the Bible. Much of the dialogue spoken is mostly philosophical and people have their own opinions. For example, when the Bible talks about creation in Genisis, people can either believe that the earth was created by God or by some scientific explanation like the Big Bang theory. Also, I do believe that the statement "that which doesn't destroy us only makes us stronger". A perfect example of that is a teenager in high school. People can say some pretty mean stuff about you, but you have two options. You can let that gossip get in your head or it can make you a stronger person by dealing with the situation. The statements I picked effects the way that people act within society because it shapes everyones moral values. For the first example about the Bible, people may act more of a conservative and follow the beliefs of the Bible but others might see the Bible in a different way and so those two people act differently. The second statement about how either you can let something get to your head or you can shake it off effects people in society because this happens all the time. Some people who have been ripped on in the past can back someone up when they have something spread about them because they've been in that situation and can give good advice.
I believe that there more than one way to interpret the Bible. This is true because Catholics have their own way to do things related to the Bible and jews have their own version of the Bible, called the Tanakh. Many religions would say that there is only one way to interpret the Bible. I also believe that a person is innocent until proven guilty. This is the right way to go. Most people are guilty right from the get-go. People should just get a fair trial.

"It is better to die for what you belive in rather than lie to save your life." This quote reminds me of a song I used to like. It's about a guy that takes a lot of people hostage and he asked them a questing. He asked "Do you believe in god?" And if the person he asked said no, they didn't die. Everybody he asked said no to save their life except one young girl. She said yes, and the man shot and killed her. If there was something I believed in so strongly, I would definitely die for it. But, not just anything. If you die for something you believe in it just shows that what you believe is important and there must be a reason why you believe in it. Anyone can lie to save their life.
"The difference between right and wrong is clear." I do not agree with this quote at all. Everybody has different views on right and wrong. And who's to say what you think is wrong is the same as what I think is wrong? I have heard people say decide what's right and what is wrong. Well if the difference is clear, why would you need to decide?
People in society can act crazy. The idea of right and wrong can make people do odd things. Beliefs can also influence the way society acts. No one person is going to act exactly the same as another person.

For most of the statements made in, "The Crucible," I chose disagree as my answer. One of them is "The difference between right and wrong is clear." I believe this statement to be completely untrue. I think there can be a gray area in between right and wrong that still can make something wrong seem right and visa-versa. I think this relates to society because a lot of the time people take the gray area for granted and commit crimes based on that. Another quote that I disagreed with was, "justice is best determined in court." I believe the complete opposite. I believe that by simply relying on the law to determine a punishment is ridiculous. The higher authority shouldn't be able to decide some ones fate. And most of the time the punishment deserved isn't given. This relates to society because a lot of the time, people will take matter into their own hands because they know the court system will screw them over. In some cases, justice is being served, but in others, it is not and a crime is committed but that all points back to my first quote.
one of the statments i chose was that which doesn't destroy us makes us stronger. I 100% agree with this because if it doesn't kill you it only makes you more prepared in the future for what may come along the road. Another i chose was beliefs in oppositing to common values should be illegal. I disagree with this one. Just because you don't believe the way someone else does doesn't make you a bad person nor does it make it illegal, its just the way you believe. Someone might believe hitler was wrong in killing the jews, and some don't. That doesn't mean they should be put in jail for believeing something, but if they go on a jew killing rampage then yes they should be.
There is one statement in The Crucible that says one person clearly knows the difference between right and wrong. I believe that this statement is true for the fact that someone knows when something is wrong. I feel as if there is no other way of reality. Although a person may know something is wrong, it doesnt affect weather or not they take action. People in society do not deeply care if what they do is right or wrong. They do what they desire. Another statement in The Crucible was that a person is guilty until proven innocent. I disagree with this statement. When one is accused of wrong doing, then proof must be involved. Trusting someone on weather or not they are guilty is not reliable anymore. Proof is definitly needed these days. When you are innocent, you remain innocent until proven guilty. People in society live by this rule, governments and all. When one is guilty, they must of ended up that way because of proof.
There are two sentences that really caught my attention in "The Crucible." One of them is There is only one way to interpret the Bible. I disagree with this majorly. Everyone has their own perspective of everything. Everyone understands things in different ways than others. This effects society because many people read the bible, and the Bible says a lot about how to live your life and be a better person, people take those words and do what they think they should for themselves. It may mean very similar ideas with other people, but there is a high chance of them being slightly different.
And the second statement is That which doesn't destroy us will only make us stronger. I agree with this statement because life is tough sometimes and when you go through rough times, you somewhat get used to it and build up endurace for it. After you have built up enough endurance for somthing hurtful, it no longer hurts as much as it did the first time. And this goes on for so long that it keeps building up until it is too strong, then unfortunatly destroys us. This effects society big time. These type of things happen to people everyday. Everyday more and more people are hurt, or are better than they were the time before.
The first statement i chose is "It is better to die for what you believe in rather than lie to save your life." I said this is true because you should believe in something strong enough to fight for what you believe in. I think this ties into society because some people are willing to speak their opinion but most people fall into the crowd and go with what others think instead. The second statement is "The difference between right and wrong is clear." I said this is false because not everything is black and white. You can know something is wrong and still do it. I think this ties into society because people need to make mistakes and if right and wrong was as clear as night and day the world would be perfect.
I think that the quote the difference between right and wrong is clear is a true statement. I think this is true because if you are going to do something you know whether it is the right thing or the wrong thing to do. Im not saying that you dont always have to do the right thing but if you do the wrong thing then you know its wrong. This had to do with society because if your parents are about to die and you have to kill to save them, you might do that. It might be a tough decision to make but if you do go with idea of killing you still know its wrong. The other quote that I have chosen was what doesnt kill us makes us stronger. I thought that this was true because if we dont die from it then we can learn form it. People go through a lot of tough times but if it doesnt kill them then they are stronger because of it, there is a lesson to learn with every event that goes on in life. This effects society because when people go through rough times with money or with family loss they will learn from the experience and learn how to handle situations like that. This is what I thought about those 2 statements.
In "The Crucible anticipation/ reaction guidde there are two staments i agree with. The first one is that a person is innocent until proven guilty. I agree with this statement because that no one should pay the price for something they did not do or may have done. The statement effects the way people act because its the way the police and courts veiw the accused aqre treated. The second statement is that courage means doing something even though it can be difficult and fearsome. I agree with this one because if you dont do something that is difficult and/or fearful you took the easy way out. The effects our society because if no one had the courge to come to America from briten and wewould had never would have became indepants.
