Today we talked about the concept of Power and how it was abused by characters in "Of Mice and Men". For Example:
1. Men and their employment
2. Candy and his dog
3. Crooks and his room
4. Curley and Curley's wife
5. George kills Lennie
Of these main instances of the abuse of power, which TWO do you think are the most significant within the story? Explain your reasoning with specific supportive examples from the text.

I find candy and his dog one of the most important powers in the story. They really give insight to George and Lennie's relationship as well. Candy tells George how much he regrets not shooting his dog himself and I think George considered that when he shot Lennie for himself. I think the second most important power was Crooks and his room. Crook's room was the only thing he had control over and took advantage of it. Crooks didn't want anyone in his room or touching his stuff. Crooks took this power and controlled it very seriously since this was the only thing he had.
I think that one of the examples that are most important in the story is Curley and his wife. Curley controlled his wife because she did whatever he said. Most of the other guys on the farm were afraid to talk to her because Curley might get them fired and they didnt want any trouble with them. Another example is Crooks and his room. He doesnt like anyone to come into his room and no one to touch his stuff. He was off doing his own thing but he took it to far because he didnt talk to anyone and he didnt let antone near his house. These are some of the examples of to much power.
Power is such a big deal in the modern world. Abuse of power is also unfortunately very common. Within the story Of Mice And Men, I feel like candy's dog was most significant. This is because Candy deep down did not want his dog to die, and in the film in seemed like the other men in the bunk house pressured himself into it. Another big abuse of power in this novella was how Curly did not pay attention to his wife. He treated her like dirt and got away with it. I feel so bad for her. All in all, abuse of power is such a terrible thing.
abuse of power is obviously the worst kind of power. in of mice and men one example of abuse of power is curley and his wife. well, curly is obviously out of control since he thinks he is a tough guy and can do whatever he wants because he is welter weight champ and the boss's son. another abuse of power is crooks and his room. one example of this is when Lennie goes in crooks room and crook goes crazy. another example in this is how the the boss segregates crook from the rest of the men. this is how abuse of power can limit ones character.

All in all, abuse of power is such a terrible thing. I think the third most important power was Crooks and his room. Crook's room was the only thing he had control over and took advantage of it. Crooks didn't want anyone in his room or touching his stuff. Crooks took this power and controlled it very seriously since this was the only thing he had.

one of the most important is curly and his wife. curly abused his power as the bosses son. he uses it as an excuse to beat up people and not get in trouble. he also abuses his power as a husband to order his wife around. another abuse of power is candy and his dog. the abused there power as candy's bunk mates to pressure him into letting them kill his dog. candy realy didn't want to let his dog go but he didn't have much of a choice.
The two most significant instances of abuse of power is "Candy and His Dog", & "George kills Lennie". Candy truly loved his dog and wasn't ready to give him up. He was still holding on to that bond they had. Even though that bond was strong, the willpower of the other men at the ranch was mightier. Candy sort of gave into "Peer Pressure", he let the other men take his dog away from him even though he wasn't dying. Also, in the instance when George kills Lennie, there is an abuse of power. Like I've said countless times before, Who gives George the right to take a life? It's not his choice to make, It's NO ONES choice to make.
I think the two most significant abuses of power in the story are candy and his dog and curley and his wife. Candy and his dog are a main one because Candy truly didn't want to kill his dog. He's had it since it was a puppy and he didn't want to give it up. "Well-hell! I had him so long. Had him since he was a pup. I herded sheep with him" (Steinbeck 44). Candy just lets everyone decide to kill his dog. Even though Candy doesn't want them to, he still just lets them do it because they want too. Secondly, Curley and his wife are significant because Curley bosses his wife around and doesn't let her talk to anyone else but himself. She still tried to talk to other workers but Curley would always find out. Abuse over power is not a good thing.
I think the two most significant abuses of power are George kills Lennie and Crooks and his room. When George kills Lennie it shows how powerless Lennie is. Lennie has no idea what is going on. Meanwhile George had to become very powerful to be able to shoot him. George had to be very strong because it hurt him a lot to harm Lennie. Another abuse of power is Crooks and his room. The ranch doesn't let Crooks stay in the bunkhouse because he is black. Many of his rights are taken away on the ranch. His room is the only space he has his own power over. The book Of Mice and Men had many examples of abuse of power, but these are the most significant.
I think George killing Lennie is a big abuse of power. Lennies life was completely in the hands of George and he could do whatever he wanted. Maybe he had good intentions, but he was the one in power, and i believed he abusesd it. Also, i belive that Curley and how he treated his wife was an abuse of power. She wanted to be free, and he wouldnt let her. He woludnt let her do anything. I think that he abused his power over her.

The two most significant instances of abuse of power in "Of Mice and Men" were Curley and his wife and crooks and his room. Curley had complete control over his wife, she was not able to decide anything on her own. Curley's wife had so little power that she wasn't even given a name in the book. Crooks took advantage of his room and it being his only oportunity to have power over something. When Lennie wanted to come in, he hesitated because he is lonely however it is his only power. Crooks wants to be able to achieve the feeling of power by being able to tell Lennie he isn't welcome in his room. Crooks finally gives in because his loneliness takes over.
One of the most important instances that is shown in the book is Curley and Curley's wife. Curley's wife's freedom was limited, almost extinguished, because Curley had so much power over her. He never let her go anywhere or do anything with any one else besides him. Another important instance is the abuse of power between Candy and his dog. All of the men that were in the bunk house had so much more power over Candy that they talked him into shooting his dog. Candy didn't have a say in this decision because he knew that the other men had more power and wouldn't take his opinion into thought. Overall, the abuse of power is portrayed throughout the book.
Power and the lack of power were a very big part in the story Of Mice and Men. George killing Lennie is a very big example of power. Georgie knew he had to do it but he didn't want to. he had gained the power when he heard the others coming to get him. As they came he realized what would happen if he didn't kill him there. The would lock him up or worse they might even torture him. An example of lack of power was with Curley and his Wife. If he had gotten her to just stay in the house her and Lennie never would hve talked. When they were talking Lennie killed her and that is why George ahd to kill Lennie.
Power is a huge factor in life today. I think that candy and his dog are the most important abuse of power in the story. Candy loved his dog and was always with him. Candy really didn't want his dog to pass on. If I was in candys position, there would be no way I would be able to kill my dog for the others. The second abuse of power that would top the list would be Curley over his wife. Curley's wife would do anything that Curley tells her to. Nobody on the farm wants to talk to her because Curley would get them in trouble.
The two most significant examples of power abuse in Of Mice And Men are Curley and his wife, and George killing Lennie. Curley had so much power over his wife that she barley had a life of her own. She tried to make small talk with the other men but always got in trouble for it by Curley. The amount of power Curley had over his wife was almost abusive, mentally of course. George killing Lennie displayed his abuse of power over Lennie because he was almost a father figure to Lennie. He controlled Lennie. Told him when to speak and when not too. They were best friends but George most certainly had the hammer and looked out for Lennie. Therefore, George's decision to kill Lennie was all in his own perception of Lennie and knowing what was best for him in the end.
I find that men and their empolyment is a huge one. The bosses that didnt like someone could just not accept them. plus Candy and his dog is one. This is Candy really didnt have a huge say if he wanted his dog to be kill. When Slim gave the go ahead Carlson took the dog out and shot him. Candy then did regret not shooting his own dog. He would have if it came to the time. The guys in the bunkhouse were mean and just told Candy they were shooting it. TOTAL ABUSE OF POWER!!!!!!!
I believe two of the most significant abuses of power are candy and his dog and curley and his wife. I believe this because when candy has his dog shot he really didnt have any say in weather or not his dog gets shot. Once slim said his dog is gone that was it. candies dog was getting shot. And curly and his wife are an example because for one his wife never even gets a name. Curly forces her to stay in that little house and listen to him. Also she isant really aloud to talk to anyone and no one willingly will talk to them.
