Day 9

Just a reminder, Vocab/Grammar quiz 26 tomorrow. Make sure that you know your comma rules, and also the differences between each of clauses that we have learned thus far.

Excellent job on the graded circle discussion!! I hope you enjoyed your one night off from blogging this week :) Today I want you to tell me about your Social Activism Website topic. Why did you choose this topic? What does it mean to you? How will the community be affected by its awareness?

The topic me and sam chose was eating disorders. We chose this topic because it's a big problem and not really many people do anything about it. There's a lot of people out there with eating disorders and no one even knows they have them. I think we should have awareness for them so they actually have support and can get through it. A lot of girls don't get through it because they don't have the treatment they need or the friends there to help. This is a big deal to me because it makes me sad about all the girls who think that every little thing is wrong with them. And when they think there fat when there not just because someone made a joke about it. Some people take everything more serious then others. So now just because someone made a joke, there hurting their bodies. The community won't have to deal with as much eating disorders if we have awareness and girls can know that people are actually there to help them.

Mine and Kevin's Social Activism Website topic is drugs and alcoholism. We choose this topic because it affects a lot of people. Many people our age are involved in drugs and alcohol and it is very harming. When ever there is a big party someone always brings something really bad. Also there isn't one day where people arn't talking about drugs or alcohol. The community will be affected dramsticly by its awareness. Since people are going to be more away protection will be better. We intend to gain attention and stop drug and alcohol abbuse.

The topic I chose to do is animal cruelty. I chose this as my topic beacause I care about animals very much and it breaks my heart when I hear about animal abuse. I just do not understand how people can harm innocent animals. It is unbelieveable to me. I think if people were more of sete of it, it could help it improve. I researched today and learned really surprising facts and rad over some devastating stories. Also, if people could open up more and adopt animals, it would be so great. There are starving neglected animals out there who need love and I cannot imagine if that happened to my dog or cat. I hope somehow people become more aware and try to help fight animal cruelty.

the topic eric and i chose was about the oil spill i the gulf, the reason we chose this was because we wanted to see how our community reacted to the oil spill, and what we looked for online was to see what we could do with this topic, and were going to make a awareness website on the oil spill and try an get some people to join. what this means to me is that i dont like polution and the oil spill was a big spill in the gulf of mexico and no one is trying to get it cleaned up, so we were like maybe we can geta crowd of people to speak up about it so wild life and nature dont get hurt. hopefully people will get off the tv and maybe help donate or something to help the oil spill.

Chris and I chose the topic of Homelessness. We chose this because it's a popular topic in Detroit and it's suburbs currently. Many Americans are losing their jobs and houses. Some of them have no where to turn to and are forced into homeless shelters and even forced out on the streets. Chris and I wanted to raise awareness about this topic because not a lot of people know about it. Worse, is that some people know about it and don't care about it. We just want to get the the word out about how so many people are affected by homelessness and what you can do to help the homeless. This topic is somewhat close to my heart because my Mom worked at a rescue mission in Pontiac for three years. I remember her telling me stories about these people and saying, "There just like you and me, they just don't have the same blessings that we have.". I'm not sure how the community will be affected by this but I hope it will have a positive aftermath.

The social activism that Bri and i chose is Sexulity discrimination. We chose this topic because on the discrimination against homosexuals and bisexuals and there is no support. This topic kind of has some meaning to me becasue a few of my friends are bisexual and the discrimination against them is hard for me to watch and just stand by as it goes on. There us nothing wrong with them they just have different feelings about sexuality then we do and it's bnot right for us to discriminate them from the reast of us. The community will be affected by this awarness because more people will feel more comfortible in their suroundings.

For my social activism project i chose the oil spill in the gulf. i chose this project because it effect how much we pay for oil here in Michigan. this is bad for me because i have my license and paying for gas will become a major issue. also it effects our fragile ecosystem in our oceans which could cause the price of fish to go up here. Also the whole community will be effected because of gas. and if the gas price increases then store prices could increase and this would not be good. this is all about my web project that i hope to do good on.

for my social activism project, we chose vandalism. it is a big problem around here. espetialy in the school. you always see stuff broken or written upon. especially in the bathrooms. theirs always doors busted down water, and other things... everywhere. i it kind of pisses me off because the janitor is the one cleaning it up, and it seems unfair. and we use theses things so why would you break them. i hope the community considers what im saying and trys to stop it.

Mine and Steven's project is about Child abuse. We chose this project because there are so many instances where you hear or see child abuse. I think that this is a growing problem and it needs to be stopped. It actually means a lot to me because I know people in my neighborhood who seem like they are abusing their children and also it scares the child for life because they go through so much. The community will be affected because some people might realize that they are abusing their child and maybe they will stop. Also, there might be more kids going to authorities reporting that they have been abused. There are also many other people who have witness child abuse in public and feel sympathy for the child but never care to report it. The community might ban together and report ever instance of child abuse they notice and help stop child abuse.

The topic we chose was recycling and energy conservation. Recycling is a very important thing to help keep the Earth as clean as possible by reusing plastics, paper, glass etc. Also we threw in energy conservation because it is a big part of having a better world for future generations. You can buy energy saving appliances and lightbulbs to help save money and fossil fuels that power electrical companys. Also if you take simple steps like taking shorter showers and turning off the lights when you leave a room it can be a major difference. We want to get the public aware of just how important this is and hope it can take off in White Lake.

The topic that me and lauren chose to do was eating disorders. We chose this because that it is a very commen thing among young teens and adults. If Lauren and I can bring enough awareness to this topic, I'm sure we could really help some people out. In the end, our goal is to get people to join support groups or get involved in solving this local problem. Eating disorders are deadly and the problem needs to be adressed as soon as it is spotted. When a girl has a disorder like this, she really needs the people in her life to back her up and support her in recovering. Men can have disorders like this as well, although it is alot less commen. All in all, check out our website once it is finished. You could save a life.

The topic i chose is illegal immigration. I chose this topic because it seems like lately no one in this country has really cared that there is a high percentage of illegal immigrants coming in to the us. I think people should be more aware of it because it is their lifestyles being affected by it. to me this means that i will not be as safe in the united states with illegal immigrants. the community will be more aware of the fact that people are entering this country without being a part of it. they will also be more aware that their jobs are in jepordy. this social activism movement needs to be more aware of in the community.

The topic that I am working on with Andy for our project is recycling and energy conservation. Recycling can be very important because it help keep the Earth clean. Recycling and saving energy also has a correlation with global warming. We think it is very important because it makes a town or city presentable. The community will be affected because it will also keep parks clean and public places. This will make it so kids can play in the park without worrying about someones litter. This will make the community a better place and make a lot of people more happy.

Harley and I chose to do teen pregnancy. Harley originally had the idea to do abortions, but we have different views on that, teen pregnancy was then thought of. This is a real issue that is prevalent in even our school. Recently this has been a largely talked about issue. I'm guilty of watching the popular tv shows that seem to almost glorify teen pregnancy and real fact and information should be made available.

For our project, Jess and I chose the topic of pollution and then how to prevent it. We chose it because we think that if effects a lot of people in our community because we are surrounded by lakes and rivers and a lot of rivers and lakes get polluted. To me this topic is very important for life essentials like drinking water. Through landfills the ground water can get polluted and could possibly kill us. The community will be altogether cleaner if we are more aware of pollution. It will also be a more safe enviornment for people to live in and everyone will be happier. Altogether I think that pollution is a great topic to have for this project.

The topic me and Candace chose was drunk driving. I think this is a very important thing for people to get involved with. It is especially common in high school because a lot of teenagers think that they are invincible and that nothing bad can happen to them. Too many people are killed by drunk driving and it is great that we are helping people get involved. I think if we encourage awareness in our community then it will help to reduce the amount of drunk driving accidents. It is very scary to hear of all the deaths that can occur from this. I hope that with this project we can help cause much more awareness.

Ashley and I chose the prevention of teenage pregnancy. We chose this because I've heard of and known plenty of girls, not only in the community, but in our school that are pregnant at a very, very young age. I really liked the idea because a friend of mine had her baby in November at the age of 19 after having a miscarriage before at sixteen. I saw the struggles she went through during the pregnancy, birth, and now raising her baby. Her life changed a lot because of both pregnancies. She had to drop out of high school in 10th grade, financially she wasn't ready and it caused a lot of family problems. I wanted to spread awareness because I see how it affects people when their not ready and prepared for a baby.

The topic morgan and i choose for our social activism project is hunger. I think for a lot of people its a struggle to put food on the table daily and is an issue they shouldnt have to face alone. If everyone can pitch in a little towards people less fortunate who battle a simple need of survival we take for granted everyday, we could get rid of this issue almost completely. Although this problem isnt always shown so much on the surface in our local community it has an impact on the health and well being of our community members. If we can cure starvation our community will grow stronger and learn to lean on others for necessary support.

My website topic is the lack of recognition that local artists get in our community. I hope to make it a blog style website where all of my friends and friendly randoms will be able to submit their artwork, whether it be poetry, short stories, photography, music, drawings, etc. The links will be to sites such as local record companies in Michigan and art schools and online poetry clubs to help kids spread the word about their hidden talent. I created this topic because being an artist myself in this small area no one has heard of, I know how difficult it is to get artistic talent recognized. There are no extra cirricular clubs after school for artists such as sports and much of the artistic talent I see in our community is unfortunately going to waste. This web site will help our community because not only will the links give the artists guidence of recognition, but anyone can come on and browse new forms of art they like and perhaps try it out for themselves. I hope to continue this website even after class. I hope we make a name for White Lake and an artistic rep. It's about damn time.

My partner for the website is Wojo. WE are doing on the topic of pollution in local communities. Well, i first got the idea from my brother. I asked my family at dinner what a good topic would be and my 8th grade brother suggested pollution. Having this idea, we did research on it and found a lot of information. We found problems and solutions for pollution in our own community. If the community knew more about pollution and how to prevent it, I think it would help decrease pollution. There are little steps that someone can take to help the community.

Lindsey and I chose to do hunger, and poeple who are in need of help with food. We chose this topic because its a local issue, that is a reeeal problem.. expectially lately because of the economy. Thsi topic to me means that people are in need and we should help them, food is a neccissity. I think the community will be suprised by just how many people have to choose between paying their rent or going grocery shopping.

The topic that Taylor and I chose was Animal Cruelty. We chose this because people should know what is happening in the world to defenseless creatures. Some people still do not understand why this is wrong. Why would some one want to hurt there own or someone esles animal? This topic means alot to us. We both love animals and can not stand when you hear on the news about someone hurting there dogs or other animals. I really do not like when a person has so many dogs or cats and can not feed them and let them starve. Also I hate when people move and leave their pets behind to starve and die. The community will be affected by this because they will notice that it is going on all around them. They will know more about it and how it can be prevented before something bad happens

ME and my partner chose child abuse. To us this is a problem that really should be addressed. We believe if people see the issue they might think twice about possibly having children to early or maybe violently hitting them. The community will be affected because children will have a better life and future. This means to us that the community can and possibly will be better as a whole. we hope that people will take this seriously. Hopefully we will ake a differance.

I chose economy, more specifically unemployment, for my social activism website. I couldn’t think of many localized problems so I came up with unemployment as the biggest problem in Michigan overall. Although unemployment is a hard thing to fix in my website I did explain that it can ablest be prevented in the future, by people simply working hard to get a good job there job and the money they make and therefor spend helps to pay for other jobs. I have no idia how the community can be affected by its awareness because I’ll never fined out, sines my website is being posted with a bunch of other ones on a school website its not going to get much traffic.
