Current event day. The current event must come from within the last week. As always, no entertainment and no sports. Try and not do one that someone else has done. If you do, then you must somehow comment about theirs (if theirs was done first) in your blog. NO CITE, NO POINTS

The current event I chose to write about is a drunk driver ho got 22 and a half to 25 years in prison and 4people died. All the teens dies on impact. This shows how sad and short life can be. Those teenagers had so much more of there life to live and it was all ende because of a drink. We just learned about texting and drivig and about how it's equal to having like 3 or 4 beers i think. If our in that much of a hurry to get home, u shouldn't have a drink in the first place. I think the laws are getting more strict and enforcing it more which is really good. So many innocent people die because of drunk driving and all the stories I hear are always so sad. I don't know hat I would do if I was put in that sort of situation. I have never had to be put in that situation which I am greatful for.

There are these new bracelets out called Silly Bandz. Most kids have them. However, some schools consider them a distraction. Infact, schools in New York, Texas, Florida, and Massachusetts have banned them. Teachers say that they are becoming too distracting for students to concentrate in school. I think this is absurd. A lot of kids at our school have them and they are not a distraction. Altough we like them a lot they are just like anything else we would wear like a pretty necklace or a cute shirt. I don't think it is that distracting that schools should be banning them.

oops sorry.
Everyone uses the medicine Tylenol. It helps relieve aches and pains. Recently, there has been a recall because the manufactures have been really slopping on making the medicine. They have recalled this product four times in seven months. This included a widespread recall on childrens non-prescription drugs on April 30th. There has been a recall in over more then 40 infant and childrens medicines. According to the FDA, Johnson & Johnson also found a potential problem with motrin tablets but did not recall the product till 9 months after.

SORRY
Since today is a current event blog, I should do one. The article I chose is called, "Kwame Kilpatrick Begins Prison Sentence
Kilpatrick Sentenced To 18 Months To 5 Years In Prison." On Tuesday May 25, 2010 Kilpatrick was sentenced to 18 months to 5 years in prison. In my opinion, this all the time that Kilpatric will spend time behind bars should knock some sence into his head. I believe that this has to with my life because if I was in Kilpatrick's shoes, I would have payed back Detroit before things got way too out of hand. this also affects my life, because if I lived in Detroit then I would want him to pay back the restitution that he owes. I hope that he will eventually pay back all the money he owes Detroit.

My current event is about the on going struggle to ban drop-side cribs. I was so shocked to see that so many lives have been lost due to something completely preventable. Over 30 infants have suffocated or been strangled in the drop side crib. The crib is designed to easily take a baby in and out of the crib with a latch that lifts one side of the crib up and down. More than 7 million drop side cribs have been recalled in the past 5 years. This is obvious proof that even the companies producing these know how unsafe their product is. I think the minor inconvienance of lifting your baby a few extra feet could be easily dealt with by mothers with young children if it meant they could save an infants life. I feel terrible for the parents who have had to deal with that kind of loss and agree strongly that if we could ban this hazardous crib so many manufacturers are selling we could make the world a safer place.

So there is a women that fell asleep on an airplane and when it landed, she was left on it. The plane took off, and she was still there and ended up at the next destination. She is now suing the company. I feel like this should open the eyes of those who work in the airline business. They really need to pay attenion to things, because it is really risky to make mistakes with all that has gone on with airplanes recently. This women should get money for this because she has picked the best attourney around. Good luck to her, and I hope the airline pays for this dumb mistake on their part.

"By innovating menus with various snacking options, restaurants can boost sales throughout the day and drive guest traffic during nonpeak hours," said Eric Giandelone, director of food service research at Mintel. Menu items with the vocabulary "snack," "snackable" or "snacker" have increased by 170 percent since 2007, according to Mintel Menu Insights, a consumer market research. By fast food places doing this, they are pretty much encouraging people to eat more, and unhealthy. Although this hleps their business, its not good fo rthe health of America, which is already a obese filled population.

As BP labored for a second day Thursday to choke off the leak at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico, dire new government estimates showed the disaster has easily eclipsed the Exxon Valdez as the biggest oil spill in U.S. history.
The company announced late in the day that it had suspended shooting heavy drilling mud into the blown-out well 5,000 feet underwater around midnight Wednesday so it could assess how the effort was working and bring in more materials.
Thursday evening, BP PLC said it had resumed the pumping procedure known as a top kill. Officials said it could be late Friday or the weekend before the company knows if it has cut off the oil that has been flowing for five weeks.
As the world waited, President Barack Obama announced major new restrictions on drilling projects, and the head of the federal agency that regulates the industry resigned under pressure, becoming the highest-ranking political casualty of the crisis so far.
BP insisted the top kill was progressing as planned, though the company acknowledged drilling mud was escaping from the broken pipe along with the leaking crude.
*the problem i see with this is that the u.s has done its least to help the oil spill in the gulf of mexico. like all these animals and the water its self is becoming dead and more of a problem to pick up because BP decided to let it go on because they were making money while all the oil was being waisted so if they would of capted the tube they would of had saved oil and money but no. now gas prices and oil prices have sky rocketed.

In this current event, I read about how the Red Cross is defending helping to Taliban. They believe that they should not discrimnate against any states or races and help out the Taliban with their injuries and casualties. They have difficulties getting the injured to hospitals due to all of the fighting in the area and is a constant struggle everyday. These volunteers are putting their lives on the line for a controversial place to be helping. Critics argue that the Red Cross should not be in places like Afghanistan, helping out the enemy, but the Red Cross doesn't discrimanate. THe Red Cross has 1500 national and 150 international people helping in Afghanistan.
Well just the other day in Jamaica, Jamaican and U.S. forces have been searching for Christopher Coke. Chris is a drug lord in Jamaica. The forces have knocked down doors and searched many houses looking for him. Searching for him, the forces have killed 73 people. The U.S. justice department has called him the most powerful drug lord in the world. This is big here because we will be spending more money that we don't have, trying to find this guy. I believe that the U.S. should legalize Marijuana and other drugs and put heavy taxes on them. This would help bring the U.S. some money and even if the U.S. doesn't legalize it, people will still do it.

March 16, 2010, a drunk driver killed 4 innocent teens in a car accident. 16,16,15, and 19 years of age. Her sentence is anywhere within 22 1/2- 25 years. Some people say that drunk driving shouldn't be considered man slaughter or murder for that matter, however, when you get behind the wheel after drinking, you are putting the lives of everyone on the road at risk, just as you are yourself. I know that Taylor already blogged about this, although I would like to say that drunk driving is extremely selfish. I also beleive that if a life or lives are taken in a drunk driving accident, the instigator should be considered a murderer. They should lose their life too. It is a sad place we live in where you have to worry about the actions of not only yourself, but other people on the road.

In recent news, Ford's line of Mercury vehicles is being discontinued. Even thought it is not a for sure thing, it may be a future possibility. This is a big thing because this means that more jobs will be shutting down nation wide. Many people are struggling to get jobs, and with Mercury being a major line for Ford, more jobs will be decreasing. This effects me because I know a lot of people looking for jobs that could use a car factory to work at. The article did say that they are aiming towards more fuel efficient cars so that is good news. Overall I hope Ford doesn't discontinue Mercury.

The oil spill in the gulf is ridicules to much oil is being spilled and BP i think only cares about money. the first time that they tried to cap the leak it failed. then they tried to siphon the oil using another tanker, and it still did not produce effective results. now they plan to cap the spill one more time to see if it will work this time. the capping should take around 24-48 hours apparently to put the seal on. this could effect my community and everywhere else because it will raise gas prices because then they have to stop they need to make up the price. the oil pumped in the gulf is 29% of the U.S total market of oil so this could be really bad.

"North Korea warns it will meet war with 'all-out war'." For my current event i am doing a world issue. South Korea had an anti-submarine exercise early Thursday. North Korea reacts by saying if they attack them, they will attack back worse. This could cause a huge problem in the world. I don't know if we are alliances with them, but if we are then we would have to help them in a war. Also, if it went to war, we would have to be involved because it seems like America helps every country when they are in trouble. It would not be good if they went to war and it would even affect us.

My current event is about the "dont ask dont tell policy." This policy states that army officials in the military are not allowed to ask men or women enlisted questions about their sexual orientation. It is illegal for gays or lesbians to serve in the army and this policy claims to protect them although they must constantly keep this information a secret. This policy has been a continuous problem and debated about for some time now. Today the senate made the okay for this law to continue. I personally do not agree with the dont ask dont tell idea. I think this marks where the gay and lesbian movement stands, stuggling to achieve equality in the public eye and forced to hide their true identity.
