Day 7

Make sure that you come ready and prepared to perform in your graded circle discussion. Your entire study guide packet should be completed, as we will be using that as a guide for our discussions. Remember, the top five students that make the biggest contributions to the discussion will recieve 5 extra credit pts!

For this evenings blog, I want you to pick one of the themes discussed in the Animal Farm. If you are not sure what they are then do some research and I am sure you will find them. Then, I want you to find a song that you think fits that theme and explain how the song and the theme work together. Make sure you mention the song and the sing or song writer when discussing this. If you want to post a video or youtube url feel free.

The curruption of power is a big theme in Animal Farm. At first Jones had the power of the farm and was useing the animals to take care of it. Then all of the animals over threw Jones, and the pigs took over. They started slowly takeing control then they just completely took over. The song I picked was Metallica - Don't Tread On Me. It talks about curroption because it is almost as though the people are walking all over them. They are both related because they both are getting used basically. Power is a very important thing but if it goes wrong it can be extremly dangerous.

the theme i chose would be the abuse of power which i know is the big one. a song i think may relate to this theme would be Lost by Coldplay. the song is similar to the theme because a line in the song is, "You may be a big fish, in a little pond. doesn't mean you've won." i feel this is saying that even if you have more power, you may not be using it right and you are not the winner. Also, another line in the song is, "Just because I'm losing, doesn't mean I've lost." this is showing that you don't have to have power to succeed and the "war" is ongoing with right and wrong.

corruption in the government or in the animal farm with the pigs over the other animals. like how they mae commandments on what they can an cant do then they did like a 180turn when major died. like napolean, he became a dictator over the animals, they had no rights they worked and they had nothing to show for it either. the song i picked for this song is "if i can dream" the reason i picked this song is because this song talks about how people wish they could all be equal and theyd be happy.

One of the biggest themes in Animal farm is the abuse of power. Throughout the book the pigs have all the power and they run it like a socialist government like the Soviet Union did. The other animals of the farm just got walked on and never had a say in anything. A song that can relate to the animals would be Stand by Rascal Flatts. "When push comes to shove you taste what you're of" is a line in the song and that's what the animals did in the beginning when they revolted and is now what the animals are currently feeling. The song talks about how when you're being pushed around you need to try and stand up for themeselves like when they didn't want to build the windmill and when the pigs started amending the commandments. Overall the abuse of power is shown in the book Animal Farm.

I believe that the societal tendency toward class stratification is the biggest theme in Animal Farm. Since the animals would be considered the lower class and Jones would be considered the upper class, and in most countries would have kept things the way that they are. The song that I found that ties into the theme is called "Uprising" and it's by a group called Muse. The song ties with the theme because of the line "Another Promise, another scene, another package lie to keep us trapped in greed, with the green belts wrapped around our minds and endless red tape to keep the truth confined." That line is the most powerful line in the entire song because the line 's a fact in the book. When the animals on the farm were complaining about how Jones was treating them, the animals wanted to start an uprise. They were held by the belts of mind control and the red tape of slavery. Overall, I believe that the social groups should be equal and not separate.

I think that one of the biggest themes throughout the book is abuse of power. This is shown with many characters but mainly the pigs. A song that I found that relates to this is called held down and is about how he cant do anything because people are abusing the power they have. It is very hard to get anywhere when people are abusing the things they get in life. When they do this it hurts them and the people around them. The song also carries many of the same themes that the book does. This is how the book and this song relate to each other.

one of the bigger themes in Animal Farm is corruption. this is show by how Napoleon uses his power. he makes the animals work hard and feeds them little wile he is living in comfort. he also lied to them and manipulated them. a song that is about corruption, espetialy in government is, "Blowin in the wind" by Bob Dylan. here are some quotes from the song.
"Yes, how many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free ?
Yes, how many times can a man turn his head
Pretending he just doesn't see ?"
"Yes, how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry ?
Yes, how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died ?"
these lines demonstrate some things that happen in corrupt governments and also how people just ignore the problems.

I think the most important theme throughout the book is the abuse of power. The pigs start to get way over their heads with all of the power they are handed with. Ever since the Manor Farm became Animal Farm power abuse has been a major thing with the animals. Even before that, Mr. Jones abused his power that he had over the animals. This theme shows itself in many ways throughout the book and I believe it was the most important to the plot.

In animal farm, they try to make equality, which is a theme in the book. Once they get rid of Mr. Jones, they decide that all animals would be equal. A song that represents this theme is "We Are The World" by Michael Jackson. This song talks about how we are all one within the Earth. It says that if we don't start changing and becoming equal then things are going to continue going down hill. Its saying don't judge people or don't treat people unequally because everyone should be equal because that is the way God made us. This is just like Animal Farm. All of the animals are equal, but for some reason the pigs think they have a superiority over the other animals.

The theme that sticks out the most in Animal Farm is the abuse of power. This relates to Animal Farm because the pigs, the smartest of the animals, are starting to take over and take charge. They are abusing their knowledge over the others. They are dictating the food rations and education levels of the other animals and the other animals are beiging to notice. These other animals need to Rise Up and try out their voices. I now leav you with a song called Rise Up. It's by a local Minnesota ska band called The 2 Tone Runts. It is about our government being too controling and how we the people need to stand up for our country. There is no video on youtube but some of the lyrics are,
"I never thought i'd be someone or anything to anyone. I thought I'd be hiding in shadows until someone turned the spotlight onto me".
"I rose to my feet, I START TO SCREAM. you're not taking me, YOU'RE NOT TAKING ME. I fought back with all of my heart, this world is falling apart".

One major theme i think that is discussed in Animal Farm is Power of Leadership. This is a big theme because some of the animals try to take over the power. Just how Napolean decides everything that happens on the farm. He makes all the choices for all the animals. No one chooses for Napolean to become a leader, he just decides it for himself. A song that i think shows leadership is One Day but Matisyahu. This song talks about what kind of life there would be without everyone fighting. It says that its not about winning or losing. Power has this type of thinking because they all think about what they think is right. So of course, there going to want to win because they want more power over everyone else.

One of the most evident themes in the book Animal Farm is the corruption of power. There is a song that seems to go along with this theme. It's called Redemption Song, by Bob Marley. It is the perfect example of this theme because it explains the struggle the blacks went through when they were trying to get through life being the minority. They had to deal with mental slavery. Just like how in the farm, the animals feel like they need to do what they are told because they are dealing with mental slavery as well. All in all, you should give this song a listen because it reallly speaks to me and allows me to realize how things really are under the corruption of power.

Here are some of the lyrics.

Old pirates, yes, they rob I;
Sold I to the merchant ships,
Minutes after they took I
From the bottomless pit.
But my hand was made strong
By the hand of the Almighty.
We forward in this generation
Triumphantly.
Won't you help to sing
These songs of freedom?
'Cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs,
Redemption songs.

Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our minds.
Have no fear for atomic energy,
'Cause none of them can stop the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look? Ooh!
Some say it's just a part of it:
We've got to fulfill the Book.

Won't you help to sing
These songs of freedom?
'Cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs,
Redemption songs,
Redemption songs.

One theme from Animal Farm could be just taking a stand for something you feel is right. The song i found is called Revolution by the Beatles. Both the song and the theme talk about what it takes to stand up and revolt. The song kind of contradicts itself and criticizes people who arent content with what they have right now too. In Animal Farm i found myself doing that because after the pigs took over i started having second thoughts on their rebellion. The risk the animals took in being independant was risky and this song reflects that thought very well.

One of the themes in Animal Farm is the abuse of power. Napolean abuses his power and throws Snowball off the farm, adn also is controlling the animals and what goes on on the farm. A song that reminds me of this is according to you by orianthi. It talks about a controlling person in her life would tear her down like the leaders are doign to the animals in animal farm. In both the song and the story power is being abused to either put someoen down or to control them as they please.

The biggest theme of Animal Farm would be Abuse of Power. Napoleon was being a dictator at the end of the story. He was abusing the power that the animals gave him. The song that i chose would be Prison Song by System of a Down. Even thought the song does not directly talk about the abuse of power, it is saying how the government can do whatever they want, whenever they want. One of the lines that best shows this would be "The percentages of americans in the prison system, the prison system have doubled." This quote is saying that the government has abused their power of law enforcement. I agree with them.
