Day 14

Current event day. The current event must come from within the last week. As always, no entertainment and no sports. Try and not do one that someone else has done. If you do, then you must somehow comment about theirs (if theirs was done first) in your blog. NO CITE, NO POINTS

the article i chose to write about is titled "DPS students score worst in national reading test." this is a shock to me actually. i knew that Detroit was a dangerous area but i didn't know it was one of the lowest ranking in education too. i think it's reputation makes people think that those who live there dont have to work as hard because it is a bad area. it always makes me wonder if that idea is going to spread towards us and education will drop. cheating seems sort of popular these days and i think kids are learning less and less as the decades pass. i think that if a couple people really wanted to, they could make a difference and i think some people are trying to.

The oil spill that happened this week in New Orleans estimated that the oil spill into the Gulf of Mexico, is worse then they though. A mile long tube was inserted into the pipeline to capture the oil. There was an estimate of 210,000 gallons or 5,000 barrels a day being captured. Over 6 million gallons has already been dumped into the sea and killed 11 people. This is the biggest disaster in over a decade. Much of the coastal areas has been closed because of the fish and the oyster harvesting. The oils killing all the wildlife, fish, and birds. There's an oil threat to Florida Keys and that coastal are because the current is pushing the oil that way.

my current event is on the oil spill, on the web i found an update and the update stated about how like 3,000 barrells a day are being spilt into the gulf and were doing as lil as possible to help. like bp is just making money fo the oil that isnt being taken in and the gas prices and the oil price is rising because the oil is being shortened. and the us and doing anything to help kill this mess and if they are doing something there doing as lil as possible.i think the us needs to get of their butts and get to figuring out what they can do to secrete the oil from spilling more and more. all these animals are getting hurt and the oil is getting onto the florida keys and thats mesing up floridas beaches there. then also whil bps just sitting there and making tons of nothing.

Kevin Cosner, to most known as a movie star, but to the those racing to fix the recent oil spill off the coast of Loisiana he is one of their greatest contributers. He has been investing millions and millions of dollars into seperating oil from water for years now. His hard work may prove to be very beneficial to the problem we're currently in. The technology he and scientists have created has also been tested and proven to seperate oil from water and release 99% purified water back. If we can utilize this equiptment we will be able to save a lot of sea life in the gulf of mexico.

The current event that I found is called "Judge revokes Lohan's probation, issues arrest warrant." A Los Angeles judge issued an arrest warrant Thursday for actress Lindsay Lohan and revoked her probation after she failed to appear at a hearing. This really isn't new news because you are hearing about all of the stars doing this kind of thing all the time. For a while it was Brittany Spears and now it's Lindsay Lohan. What's happening to all of the good movie and music stars? I know that they are all doing drugs and alcohol. Don't they know that it will get them into trouble? Apparently not. This doesn't really affect my life, but it does affect the lives of the Lohan family. they have to put up with Lindsay's addiction and maybe the violence that goes along with the addiction. Hopefully Lohan will get her life turned around in the right direction.

My current event is about all the new research into cancer and its causes. A new report just surfaced about many things that may have to do with cancer. They have found many links between cancer and everyday items in our houses such as brain tumors and cell phones. In my opinion, this is ridiculous! What is the government planning on doing about this? Clean out the dangerous items in our houses? They'll be empty. We've been working on causes for years but it might help to be sure that these items are causing cancer because I'm not very convinced that they are. When we find an honest cause, then we can solve the issue.

"Miss USA Rima Fakih is a Muslim with Lebanese heritage, but her family is "not defined by religion," Fakih said.

"I'm an American girl," Fakih said. "And just to be clear, my family comes from many different backgrounds and religions."

Fakih downplayed the significance of photographs that emerged online this week showing her dancing against a stripper's pole.

"Everyone took them as if I was stripping, which to be honest with you was just a competition," she said. "It was more of an event held by a radio station."

I chose this current event because a lot of people have been saying that Rima Fakih shouldn't have won. I understand that he alleged allegations are somewhat demeaning to the Miss USA name, but seriously everyone it was in her past. Sometimes people make mistakes, even if it wasn't for the radio competition, it just happened. Think about it, some of our presidents had affairs with other women besides their wives during their terms. I don't understand any difference between those two incidences.

The current even i chose is about a guy named K'naan. He is a rapper from Somali. Most rappers sing about their experiences as they grew up. But K'naan sings to help himself get over his past. He understands the "posture element" to American hip-hop. One of his songs was chosen as a world cup anthem.
This affects the community a lot. If shows how bad thing are for some people. But through his songs he inspires people to do better. This help the community become a better place. It also raises awareness of the bad things that happen.

Our nations brightest people help keep our country safe. this week Director of intelligence, Dennis Blair, has resigned. he has decided to resign due to the excessive failures at the u.s security. these failures include times square bomb, fort hood shooting and the Christmas bombing. this could be good or bad depending on how well he was actually doing. this could effect me and my community because if he blocked 90% of the terrorist attacks coming in then he did do a good job, and if the new person only blocks 85% then it would in turn be worse. this is how i thought the resigning could effect my community.

Detroit -- An 11-year-old girl is dead following a freak accident on a school bus this afternoon, said police.

This is such a sad current event. Hopefully, the death of this girl will really open school bus drivers eyes to how they really should be driving. As soon as a child steps on to a school bus, they put their life in the drivers hands. When all those kids get on a bus, the driver ends up with alot of responsibility. Especially with such a big vehicle, school bus drivers have alot to handle. Only the right people should be chosen for this job to keep the children safer. The driver hit a tree, and I just think that they should have been more cautious and carefull. All in all, I hope the death of this Detroit girl will help the other children's safety.

Yesterday, police found the body of a 12-year old who had been missing since March. She was a victim of a homicide. Investigators don't have a suspect but they know that it doesn't lead back to family. This is sad and terrifying. It proves that anyone can get abdicted. We should all be very careful walking alone at night and if you have kids then you should be sure to watch them when they are playing outside or going to school. It shows that no one is invincible.

Yesturday on I-96 an oil tank rolled over and spilled. This acciedent closed the roads for almost 12 hours. The truck drive went to the hospital but there was no serious injury. All of this happened before my baseball game and the parents were late. Everyone had forgot some small thing. I started the first game without my seeds and I know it doesn't sound like much but they just calm my nerves. I didn't get any hit to me and my parents showed up with my seeds so it turned out good.

Today, a little girl died on the bus. School had just been dismissed from a detroit public school and as the bus pulled out she stuck her head out of the window. Her head then hit a tree. At 2:48, the little girl had taken her last breath. It's really a shame that the bus drivers don't pay enough attention to the kids on the bus, but instead, only to the buses route. I think the bus driver should have been glancing at the students every so often to regulate their behavior. Then, this would never have happened.

Most famous artists in the music world and other types of artists are very creative. However, their creativity makes them seem weird. For example Lady Gaga is very creative but her creativity has made her seem weird and unnormal. Scientists have finally found a link between severe creativity and mental illness. One type of mental illness is schizophrenia. Results showed that a brain of a highly creative person is very similar to one of this disease. The only thing is that the brain reacts to a natural chemical a little differently. I think it is a good thing scientist found this out and arre sharing it with the public because many people lable people with mental illnesses as stupid. Look at these highly creative artists that we look up to in society we dont call them stupid so i think this would help the public not lable mentally ill as much as they do.

Cancer is something that affects many people whether it is them or the people around them. Doctors have done studies and they think that yoga can boost energy and cure lack of sleep. Many survivors feel fatigued after chemotherapy and have trouble sleeping. Yoga is shown to make you feel more energized and sleep better. Yoga is said to have the same affect medication but doesnt have any side affects that the medication can have. Studies have shown that at the end of the month of doing yoga 81 percent of the people had slept better an longer. Almost all of the people were energized and could do more than they could before during the day. This study could help a lot of people

When Carol Weiher was having her right eye surgically removed in 1998, she woke up hearing disco music. The next thing she heard was "Cut deeper, pull harder."Weiher is one of few people who have experienced anesthesia awareness. Although normally a patient does not remember anything about surgery that involves general anesthesia, about one or two people in every 1,000 may wake up during general anesthesia, according to the Mayo Clinic. I think this is very scary, the women was having her eye taken out and wasnt able to tell her doctors because of the mdeicine she was given. This can affect people because it may change the way the look at surgeries, and it may make them not want to be put under.

The article I chose what "North Korea says south pushing towards war." This could potentially cause a major out break of war because U.S. troops are stationed at the border of north Korea and south Korea. Also, with suspected nuclear weapons in both south and north Korea this could get much worse. In the article it states that any retaliations will cause launch of a full scale attack against south Korea. With the growing economic tensions in south Korea this is also fertile ground for war. With the South Korean economy in its current horrible state.

Yesterday, there was a huge tanker that exploded on i-75. I-75 was shut down until further notice. This explosion also happened on a bridge. This bridge collapsed. This tanker was holding 13,000 gallons of gasoline and over 4,000 gallons of diesel fuel. That's a big explosion. Luckily all three drivers were released from the hospital the same day. This affects our community greatly by having the roads shut down. This happened during our baseball game so many of the parents couldn't make it.

There was no blog for Friday so I just did last nights instead...

Mayor Dave Bing was among hundreds of mourners attending the visitation today for a 7-year-old girl killed earlier this week as Detroit police busted into her duplex looking for a murder suspect. She was sleeping on her living room sofa when she got a severe gun shot to her head. I think this is horrible because she got shot for no reason. Detroit is a very unsafe city and this is another point to prove it. This effects me and my community because these actions are unacceptable. They harmed an innocent little girl and they didn't need to. People in the community will now be affraid of the police and therefore not trust government officials as much. Overall this is very bad news.

A 13 year old American became the youngest climber to ever summit Mount Everest on Saturday.
Jordan Romeros journey was tracked through GPS coordinates on his blog. Logging his team's ascent up Everest, which is 29,028 feet above sea level. Romeros family started tackling the Seven Summits in summer 2005. He was just 9 when they climbed 19,341 feet to the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Jordan now has climbed six of the seven highest peaks on seven continents. Known as the Seven Summits.
