Day 10

Hope you are doing good work on your website research! Remember the research is key before the site is completed, and it will be due by the end of the hour Tuesday next week.

Please respond to the following:

"It doesn't take a majority to make a rebellion; it takes only a few determined leaders and a sound cause." -H L Mencken

What do you think this quote means? How does this quote relate to being social activists? How can this relate to something in American history that you have learned this year?

Have a great weekend!

I think this quote means that doing right doesn't have to involve power. you just have to have a couple motivated people that truly believe in their cause. people think you can only succeed if you have power and money but that isn't the case. this relates to being social activists because, like we are doing, people start small with only a couple people behind them but they believe in their cause and will start small if they have to. this can relate to American history because Rosa Parks herself jump started the civil rights movement. her small action caused a ripple and made people aware of how big this problem was. she was just one woman with no power but she made a difference.

I think this quote means that you don't need a whole group of people to rebel. You yourself could just rebel. By doing that you could take leadership. If your determined and confident enough, you will be able to go through with your plans. This relates to being social activists because everyone starts out small but once you get enough people to believe in what you do, then more people join on. This can relate to all the movements that people have made.

I think this quote means that not everyone has to agree to go against something. It only takes a couple of minds to change everyones opinion as long as they are determined. This quote relates to social activists because to accomplish what they are trying to achieve might seem like a big job. In reality it is but as long as you are determined to change peoples mind they will most likely follow your actions. Racism, it is one of the few things in history people can actually relate to. No matter what there will always be some racist people in america. In the future the amount of racism will probably lesson with activist movements.

I think this quote means that not everyone has to want to follow in a rebellion, but with faithful and convincing leaders and a few key followers it can happen. I think that this cna realte to teh civil rights movement. They cause a only a few leaders, because many were scared, but they were very powerful, influencial people.

This quote means that it doesn't take a lot of people to start a rebellion. It only takes one person who wants to change something and getting more people who will support your decision. This goes hand in hand with social activists because this is exactly what they do. It generally starts out with one person or a mall group of people who want to rebel. This relates to so many things in American history especially from during the civil rights movement. Rosa Parks began a rebellion and got a ton of people to follow it! She didn't have to plan something out with 500 people either. She didnt even know what a simple refusal would start and how much of an impact it would leave in history.

This quote means that most people think that you have to get a lot of people together to make people aware of something or to overthrow something. It's saying that not every cause has to have a million people in it, it just has to start small and create a movement. Well this quote relates to being a social activist because it's saying that you just have to find a "need". Once you find a "need" you get the means to fill that need. I can relate this quote to Dr. Martin Luther King's teachings, it started with him just standing up for the black populations freedom. Once everyone heard about it the movement caught on and everyone started acting on their beliefs.

I think this quote means that to make a rebellion there only had to b a few people that are willing to step up and take control. Those people need to lead others. If they step up for what they believe in then other people will follow. This quote relates to social activists because to prevent bad thing from happening only a few people need to take action. Once those people take action, others will too. In American history this can relate to Rosa Parks. She just stood up for what she wanted and she never knew that it would start a boycott.

I think that this is a very powerful quote. To me the quote means that you only need a few people to strongly believe in something for it to be followed through with. If you have a couple strong leaders then the followers will eventually come. This has to do with social activism because if a couple people stand up for what they believe in then the comminty will follow. This relates to social studies because of the civil rights movement for women. It was original only for race but then one women stood up and said it should also be for sex.

I think this quote means that you do not need alot of people to over come something. You only need strong leaders and a reason to rebel. this relates to social activists because people who rebel start of in small indiviual groups then they get gradually bigger as the rebellion starts to happen. This can relate to American history when people started to do things for the civil rights. The African American did somethings to start the movement to that. Lets take Rosa Parks for example. She refused to give up her sit to let a white man sit down. She single handedly started a wave to the civil rights. she was a strong leader that believe that whites and blacks should have equal rights not separte ones.

To me this quote means you dont have to have power to make a differance. Usually a strike or a voice out will cause a social issue. One person dones't like something and a few more people follow and then it becomes a great issue. The issue then gets involed in the gov and maybe soon becomes a law. Like the rose parks and civil rights movment. Those only had one person rosa. She had no power at all she was just a working black woman.

I think this quote is the definition of a dictatorship. Even if the others dont want it, a few dedicated leaders can make the others think it is a good idea. Social activists could be these dedicated leaders. They start a cause that could change the world. One major thing that this can relate to would be Hitler over Germany. Hitler thought they needed an aggressive style of leadership after WW1. The country was in such shambles that they trusted everything that he said.

Most quotes speak for them selves and this is obviously one of them. this clearly means that one person can make a difference and influence others. this relates to social activism by basically standing up for a cause like polluting or other natural causes. this could relate to American history by looking not to far back at the global warming crisis. Al Gore originally presented his idea to scientist once the scientist tried to confirm it he brought it to the American people and now most people believe in this idea. also in world history Hitler is an example, when he stood up in front of many to release his idea he became a role model to many and he became the leader of a country, and it all started out with just him. this is what i think of the quote and how it relates to social activism.

To me this quote means it doesnt take a majority to start a rebellion. If you have an issue your determined to change, go for it cause it has to start with someone. I think this quote relates to social activists because those who start causes or join them fall under this quote. They are helping lead something they believe is a sound cause. In American History we have learned about the civil rights movement and how all it took was a few strong leaders to lead a revolution. Like this quote the same message is transferred that if you want something to change, it starts with you.

I think that H L Mencken is trying to say that if you think that theres a couse worth fighting for you should fight for it, wethor there is a million people who beleave in it, or just 10. Many people will think that they must be in the wrong or what they beleev in is wrong if there one of the only people to beleev in it. H L Mencken thinks that if you know its right just beacause otheres don’t think so you should try to do something about it.
