Day 20

The author's use of dialogue is done to create the ability to move story forward. In the case of The Crucible, much of the dialogue is used for that purpose. Going back to Act 2, you need to do the following for this evenings blog:

Find a portion of dialogue between any two characters and summarize what it is that they were talking about. Then, tell how this dialogue moves the story further and how through the dialogue, we get a better view of the characters. Lastly, through this dialogue, give your opinion of what is going to happen in Act 3.

In act the John and Elizabish Proctor and Mary Warren are talking in the Proctor home. The convertions is about John and Abials afair and how the girls are aquesing people of being witchs. The dialogue moves the story along because you learn who many people have been arrested. It shows that the girls are starting to think they can do want they want because they are officals of the court. You learn that John Proctor still loves his wife and regrets cheating on her. You learn from this convetion that John and Elishabith does not belive that there is any witchs in salem. This convertion is a main part that fuels John actions through the rest of Act2.

The dialogue that I pick is going to be about Abigail and Mr. Proctor. In this conversation they talked about an affair that they had. Mrs. Proctor had to fire her as the maid. This relates to the rest of the story because of everyone accusing each other of being related with the devil. Abigail accused Mrs. Proctor of witchcraft and that happens after the conversation. in act 3 I expect their to be a trial about witchcraft. I understand these characters better because it showes us their past. The trial will be for everyone accused and it showed be very exciting.

Elizabeth and John Proctor are disputing over John's loyalty in the dialogue portion that I have chosen. Elizabeth is demanding that John go to Salem and tell Abigail, the women which he is having a secret affair, that it is over between them. Elizabeth is fearing that Abigail will say she is guilty of being a witch. John says he will do it but doesn't think it will gain the trust back that he longs for from Elizabeth. I believe this dialogue is important because this is the main reason that the whole issue with the witches started. Abigail was drinking a charm to kill Elizabeth so she could have John and it got out of hand. I think that in Act 3, John will try to break it off with Abigail but she'll turn on him and claim that he is also a witch.

I pick john and elizibeths conversation about johns trust. John tells his wife he and abigail are over but she knows abigail wanter hear dead so she can get john. She wants john to go to salem and tell abigal there are completely done. I really don't think this will stop her from saysing elizabeth is a witch. From this we find johns wife doesn't trust him abby still wants john and john at some point will go to salem. So my precdiction for act 3 is going to be john does go to salem and talks with abby but she still turns her in. then turns john in for not staying with her.

In the Crucible, Abigail and John discuss what they are going to do with their affair. Abagail wants it to continue, John does not. This character dialogue movies the plot along by showing the readers that John is ready to move on and treat his wife with fairness. However, it keeps the readers attention by leaving us wondering if he will stay true to what he says. This conversation between the two gives us readers better insight on the characters because we get to see Abagail follow her heard, as well as John trying to stay loyal to his wife. These quotes in the story lead me to believe that Abagail and John will end up together again, just to make the story more interesting. I enjoy the suspense here and I want to read on.

the crucible has dialog that foreshadows the story anywhere you read. the dialog i chose is when every one is in the court house when they found out about the doll. when this happens i think that Abagail already knew that this doll would come up in court so that night/night before she she put the needle in her stomach. i think the reason she did this was because if they found out that the voodoo doll worked then the lady would be considered a witch automatically, and Abagail would be a trusted witch hunter. this could lead to a couple thing in the book one Abagail dies cause of infection, two someone finds out she did it and Abagail gets in some serious trouble. this is how i see the dialog foreshadowing parts of act 3.

The way Jhon and elizabeth 'conversed' over jhons affairs with abigail i find are a good bullet point to start off with. In a sense the way these two argued and the way elizabeth held the affairs over jhon in attempt to get abigail to stop the girls from accusing people of witches. I find it to be a important push off to the movement of the act. We learn of how many people had been accused of being witches aswell as how jhon still loves elizabeth. The girls seem to be getting the ideas that because they are officials in court they can put anyone in the stockades. In addition the fact that jhon and elizabeth dont believe any withes reside in town is another important face. A starter conversation like this in the act pumps up a fair deal of things to push the play further on.

In Act 2, Hale comes and visits the Proctor family. In this dialogue, it shows how worried the Proctors are about Elizabeth going to jail and how Hale is trying to help them. This dialogue helps move the story along because it transitions it into Act 3, which happens in the court house. Also I get a better view of the characters because John seems like he cares about Elizabeth, even though he cheated on her. He yells at Cheever who comes to arrest Elizabeth and tries to defend her as much as he can. Hale is starting to wonder if all of this talk about witches is actually true because he knows very innocent people are being taken to jail. In Act 3, I think that Proctor will die for defending his wife. He will act out against Abigail and she will order the court to have him hanged. Then I think that the talk of witches will go away and never come back to Salem

ii picked mr procter and mrs procter at there house. it moves the story by mrs procter not trusting mr procter. mrs procter had cought mr procter haveing an affair and froce him to fire abgail. i think in act 3 abgail is going to try and prove mrs procter is a witch. i also think that mr proctor will come clean and tell the crout that abagil was not doing witchcraft. in the end i think that reverend paris will be shunned from the town for the lies he pulled. that is what i think is going to happen in act 3.

Dialogue is a very important piece of literature. The piece of dialogue I chose was when Cheever came into the Proctors house. Cheever was ordered to take Goody Proctor to jail by accusations from Abigail. This moves the story forward because now that abigail has done this, Proctor has a reason to go after abigail. He is also going against the corruption of the court. We can now see that Proctor does care for him wife dearly. He will always try to protect her. I think there is going to be a court trial in Act 3. I think that Proctor will make his stand against abigail and succeed.
