Day 24

"All human actions have one or more of these seven causes: chance, nature, compulsion, habit, reason, passion, and desire."
Aristotle

Do you think this is true? Why or why not? If you had to rank order these seven causes for your life what would the order be and why?

I do think this is true because in my life, I know these are the main causes. I use these everyday in the choices I make. I think they are required in real life to make things happen. I would rank them: reason, desire, habit, nature, chance, passion and then compulsion. I generally do things when they are the logical thing to do because I don't just randomly deside to do things. I rank desire fairly high because I know that if I want something, then I do it. Desire is in everyone's life and just because they have a desire, it doesn't mean it will always work out for them. I know doing things out of habit isn't always the best way because some habits are bad. However, I try to maintain good habits and this is why I do perform actions with habits. I rank chance lower because chance isn't always there for me and I can't count on chance. I make the choices based on what I know at that time.

I think that this quote is very true. All our actions have some kind of reasoning behind them, even if we may not know them at the time. There is always a cause required to create an action. I would rate these causes: Desire, Nature, Reason, Passion, Chance, Habit, then Compulsion. I chose Desire as the first cause because my actions usually reflect what I want for my life. My choices are made by what I want, or desire. I put nature as my second choice, because my actions usually follow similar patterns. Of course, I try not to repeat the poor choices I have made, but instead made actions that have worked for me in the past. If I know that an actions created a positive result, then I am going to later repeat it. Passion, Reason and Chance are the middle causes because they are equally influential on my actions. Each of them are very influential on my actions, however. If I am passionate about something, then my actions will follow that passion. Chance is the one cause that does not have a reasoning behind it. Chance effects a lot of my actions because many times things happen in my life that just happen without reasoning behind it. Sometimes it turns out well, and other times poorly. I put habit and compulsion last because I try to think about my actions, not just do them out of habit or compulsion.

i do think that this is true. These are things that influence peoples decisions evertday. I also use these in all my decisions everyday.I think that these things are pretty much part of everyday life. If i had to rank these i would say that probably desire would be first, then reason, then habit, then chance, then passion, then compulssion then nature. I choose this because well most the time we try to do whats right but some times waht you desire is what you pick for your decisions. Reason is usually another main cause of your decisions. I put nature last becaus ethere hasnt really been any dicissions ive made wtih nature being the cause.

Mr.Kay,
I guess i think this quote is true. Everything we do has a reason behind it, even if we happened to do it by impulse. If i was to rank these in order my first choice would be reason. Reason because everything happens for a reason, i strongly believe that. Second i would choose desire because we often choose to do things because we want to do them. Third would be habit because sometimes we make decisions that we have made before. Forth is nature, from what i think this means im going to say people also make decisions based on the type of person they are. Fifth is chance because sometimes we just make random decisions. Sixth is compulsion because again we make random decisions. last but not least is passion because we sometimes choose to do things because we like them.

I think that this quote is true because we are human. I think this because we don't know why we do the things we do. The order if I ranked these in my life would be reason, compulsion, habit, nature, desire, chance, passion. The reason I ranked them this way is because this how I would act sometimes. I think I put compulsion second is because I have been getting in bad moods lately. I put passion last because I am not passionate about something unless it is fun for me. Also it is something I can be good at.

I believe this is true. I say this because in my life either one or more of these causes have to do with my choices. I would rank them: chance, passion, desire, compulsion, reason, nature, and habit. I know that when I make a decision I usually just let it come to me by chance. Like today: I was going to do Barack Obama for my speech, but somebody took it. So I just started going through randonmly looking for someone else and came across my new social activist. Passion comes second because I'm a very passionate person and I usually don't do something if I don't have a passion for it.

I think this is true because these are all causes of how people act. Chance because sometimes things just happen. Nature because humans tend to act on what is comfortable to them in their life. Compulsion because there is always going to be the urge to do something in your life. Habit because they are impossible to break and most people don't try. Reason because your always going to have the reasoning of why something is right. Passion because that is what consumes people and pushes them to act on things. Last desire because your always going to want something and do whatever you can to get to it. So yes I think this is very true, all these causes are exactly why humans act like they do. I would rate mine in my life as the following. They are compulsion, habit, nature, desire, reason, passion, and chance.

Lauren Dawson said...

yes, i think this is true because these are what people base their decisions off of. people have reasoning behind what they do even if they dont relize it. i would pick: reason, desire, passion, habit, nature, compulsion, and chance. i chose reason first becasue i like to know why and i hate not knowing things. next i picked desire and passion because you should like what you do and chose. if you don't get any enjoyment or quailities out of something, there is no point. then habit and nature because if im not really thinking i just do what comes naturaly to me or what im used to. compulsion and chance were last becasue i hate not having a plan and knowing what will happen.

Mr. Kay,
I mostly find this quote to be true. All of these causes are all really important in human actions but I feel like there should be a spontaneous category. I think we all do something out of the norm sometimes and I think that should be on the list, though it might not be as important as the others. I think if I had to put them in an order of importance, it would be as follows: Number one, I would say is passion. I think I find myself doing more for something that I am really into or really in love with more than anything else. I think that the next one will be reason. I am a pretty smart kid when it comes to making good decisions so it seems like a good place to put it. I think the next thing I think of is habit/compulsion. I do many things in my life without actually paying attention so it just becomes a strong habit. Next would be Nature. I think I do a lot of things because it is just the way I am. I think that Chance would be the next one. I think this kind of goes along with being spontaneous like I talked about early. I think desire is last because it makes me think of someone just trying to get their way, and I don't think I am like that. In actuality, I find myself with the first five or six causes are really close to each other on the list but some are a bit more important than others. That's what I think about this quote and how it pertains to me.

Mr. Kay,

I think that this quote is very true. I feel that everyone has a personallity that is caused by one of the seven causes. If I had to order the causes by rank of me, I would start with Passion because I feel that I have always had a passion, even if its about something different everyday, I feel that it would be my first cause. Next would come Nature because I feel that it has always been a part of me to have that passion, and that caring that I have had ever since I was 3 or 4 years old. Then would come Desire. I think that I have a desire for being there for everyone, and a desire to live my life the way I wish too. Next would be Habit because I have had the same personallity since I was very little. I think Reason would come next, when I was 3 - 4 years old, I was always caring for my little sister and for my mom ever since my parents got devorced 14 years ago. I never wanted to see my mom or sister upset or mad. And lastly would come Chance. The reason I put chance last, is because I have been holding back who I really am for over 14 and 1/2 years. It wasn't until the middle of my 9th grade year that I decided to take a chance and show everybody who I really am. I'm very thankful that someone told me that I need to be who I am and people will like me for who I am. So thank-you.

I think that these causes are true. Everyone has these in their life no matter what. I rank these in the order of reason, desire, habit, nature, chance, passion, and compulsion. Reason and desire are the first two because I feel that these are the main causes of what goes on in your life. If you have desire, you can accomplish anything. When I desire something that I feel I can accomplish, I go for it. Reason is first because I feel that you always have a reason for doing something. I know that I don't just do stuff for no reason. Habit is third because everyone has habits. I know that I have habits: some good, some bad. I rank chance kind of low because chance you can't guarentee its going to be their when you need it most.

i think this is true to my life because because these all apply to my life. i would put them in this order: nature, passion, desire, reason, habit, and compulsion. i do this order because i some times make the wrong reasons to do something some times good some bad, i do things randomly i dont plan what i want to do i like to know that there is something to do everyday. so i put nature first bc i love the outdoors and no one should kill it. i put passsion second becaus i thimk everyone should have a passion and desire something. habits are towards the end bc i have bad habits and i need to change them, i rank chances low because i get let down alot, and i do alot of my actions out of compulsion, im just weird like that

Derek g said...

Yup,all these are a part of human action. Compulsion and habit are the same thing to me, habit is created through training and compulsion is created when "If you don't something bad will happen." Although I don't see boredom there, so mine would be habit, compulsion, chance, nature, reason, passion and desire. Most of the things I do is from habit. The out of the ordinary is because of boredom of being in the rut or someone I know wants to do something with me. My motto is
"If it makes you happy". This applies to how I live and a lot of my political standings. Without all these qualities humanity would still be in the stone ages. If fact, we would be all dead!

I agree with these causes. With all of these causes, they all boil down to who you are and how you react to certain situations. The three that stick out to me are habit, reason, and desire. Habit because you cant control your actions that you have been accustomed too all of your life; its who you are. Everyones actions have a reason, and its because of this reason why we react to a situation. Desire is in your soul, its what forces you to react. If I were to rank these it would probably go something like Habit, reason, desire, nature, passion, chance, and compulsion. The order I placed these in is because this is the closest to how I can show where these causes are placed in my life-style. The top of the order are the causes I cant control and happen naturally to me, and towards the bottom is where I can control these.

I think that this quote is true because we all have to same emotmotions. We all bleed blood. If I had to rank the seven causes my order would go....habit beacuse I always say that I am going to change but I never do. I always go back to my habits. Even if I really dont mean to. My next one would be desire. I have the desire to be loved. I want to be loved. but i dont seem to be.

I completly agree with this quote, and think its very true. Everyones actions have to have reasoning behind them, or a likely cause. No matter what the action is, good or bad, there is always some reasoning. Even if you dont know what that reasoning is. I would rank the seven causes like this: desire, reason, passion, nature, chance, compulsion, and habit. I chose desire as my number one because, i feel the majority of the choices i make have to deal with my wants, or desires in life. I chose reason as my number two because, there has to be a reason why i did the things i did, or i wouldnt of wanted to do that particular thing. I chose passion for my number three because when making decisions for yourself you have to be passionate about it. I chose nature and chance for fourth and fifth because i have to think about the differnt chances im taking in making my decisions. Finally, i chose habit and compulsion for my last two because, if you have a bad habit about something then you want to try to break your habits and not repeat them, same with my compulsions.

i find this true in many ways. one being because i see some of these for my actions. another is i look around and people do things based on certain reasons. whther its to impress, to save someone or even because they feel its the right thing to do.

if i were to order there based on my beliefs it would be; desire, passsion, reason, habit, nature, compulsion, and chance. desire would be my main reason because in life it takes desire to want to do stuff, and with out desire i would give a rats ass about school and wouldnt care about my grades. passion would then be my second because i feel that passion is right up there with desire if you got passion and you believe in yourself, you can do anything.

I agree with this quote. mostly because every action we make has reason. no matter how significant or mere every choice has reasoning behind it. To rank these i would put them in order as reason, nature, habit, desire, passion, compulsion and chance. However this is not the most proud lineup i can ultimately manage to create. still growing up and overrun by insecurities i think many teenagers live their lives by nature and habit. because if its been working, nothing going to go wrong. im too scared sometimes to step out of the normalcy of things. Its hard for everyone to have passion and desire in choices because there is that chance for failure. so right now that is the order of dominant reasoning in my life and i hope to one day alter it in a more satisfying passionate way.

Well i think that this is true because what else would an action cause. Pretty much everything i do is related to these seven causes. Well putting these is actually a little difficult. At least like the top four many because they are so close for me. Well here it is, chance, reason, passion, desire, nature, habit and compulsion. One reason this is the order because its just the way i think and whp i am. Also, those are the ways i want to be remembered by my peers and anyone that knows me, like teachers. Last chance is something i think everyone should have up there by the top.

I believe this is true. We all react to things that happen to us differently. I would rank these causes according to my life as:
I placed chance first because things happen randomly that we have no control of. Next would be desire because if there is something I want I will make it happen. I would rank passion next, I make decsions on things I am passiosnate about. I chosse reason next because everything happens for a reason. Next woould be habit because we are all creatures of habit. Compulsion and nature would be the least because these two have the least effect on me.

I believe that this quote is true, in my life, I do use of all these causes. With the decisions I make in my everyday, I have to consider if not just one, but most of them, all the time. If I had to rank them in my life it would be, Passion, Desire, Nature, Reason, Chance, Habit, and Compulsion. I would chose passion first because, I usually base my decisions on whether or not I like it, love it, or hate it. Desire is next because, it's what I want. However, desire may not always be the best, and is kind of selfish at times, it's still apart of my causes. Nature because it's what I'm most comfortable in, it's what's natural. Reason because mostly everyone has a reason for doing the things that they do. Chance is one of my lower ranked ones, because chance is not always go to be right, it's just like a wild guess, it may not always be accurate. Habit is also one of my lower ranking causes because, it's something that usually people always do, this may not necessarily be a bad thing, but sometimes, old habits die hard, meaning it's not a good thing. Then finally, it all comes down to compulsion, I just don't do what I do because of compulsion, I do it for all the things listed higher in my rank.

I think this is true.i feel these are the main causes that i do anything. I would say i use all of them at least once in a week. mostly many more than others but all in one week. Mainly because if you think about the root to all decisions i think you will get one of these seven answers. If i were to rank these causes i would say desire is first. I would see if what i am going to do benefits me in any way, or help others. The next one would be reason. In would look at the reason of why i am doing the action. Then habit mainly because habit things sometimes just come on out and you cant help it. Then passion so if i liked the cause i would do it no problem. Then compulsion because somethings you do you cant stop form doing. Then nature mainly because all you can do i see whats going to happen but you cant really change the outcome of the decision. And last i would choose chance because you have no control on what is going to happen and not having any sense of control on what happens sometimes i really just hate it.

In life when you do anything these are going to be there. You may have a passion and desire to change. This is a few examples. Anything that you do can be clasified in these seven causes. These seven causes are important to our values and who wwe are. If I were to order them I would put them in the I was feeling that day. I think some days these causes are greater then some other ones.

I do believe that this is a true statement. Something always makes someone tick and all the choices are up there. It could be something like reason or something like desire. These are all something that makes us do what we do. I would rank desire is my top because I always try to head for something that I want. Next would be reason because I tend to overthink things a lot. I would rank habit and nature the same because they are along the same lines. When I get used to doing something I start doing it without thinking. I would rank compulsion and passion last and about equal because i don't really trust my insticts and I don't have anything I'm compasionate about.

I tihnk that this is very true and there is many examples of these motives in my life. We use these every day when we make descisions and we try things. I tihnk that personally my first ranked one is desire. I am not hte most serious person, but when i want sonething, i will get it. I think that this is something that i take pride in most in my life. Next would be passion. Everyone likes doing the things they have passion for, this is basically anything i do in my free time. Next, i think the chance part comes into play. Some good things in peoples lives come by pure chance. Lastly i will rank the raminaing four in the order of; reason, habit, nature, and compulsion.

I think this is true because every action needs a reason. For my life I would have to rate them chance, nature, habit, reason, desire, passion, compulsion. The reason I rate chance highest is because theres days where i'm lucky or just having a really shity day. I have nature second because its what I base a lot of my actions off of. Habit is third because I have a daily thing I do in the morning to get ready so it can be considered a habit. Reason seems a little low but I don't see much of a reason when I do things besides I have to do it. Passion also seems low to me because some days I enjoy doing things others I don't. Compulsion seems right because theres nothing that really bugs me that much.

Reason is my first choice because you have to have a reason to do everything you do. I picked desire and passion next becasue they are almost the same thing. Third I picked habit becasue you use that a lot like you have a habit of bitting you nails. The last ones I sorta randomly chose because it depends on how I would rank them such as what I am doing.

Well i do belive this quote is true from all that i have done in life, everything can fall into one of those reasons. If i had to rank these my number 1 would be nature, what we do beacause of nature is hard wired into our minds, breathing for example is a human action. Next would be habit, what we do most of the time in your life is habit, for example if you tap your foot in class you may be doing it out of habit. Third would have to go with reason, we chose to do what we do, i chose to blog every night, no one forces me to.
Fourth would be compulsion, sometimes just like nature we do things without thinking. Next would be desire, when we want something we will make descion based on the fact we want it. Last but not least i would say passion, if you like something, you are going to do it. For everything i can think of this quote does not fail me.

I believe this is true because that's just how humans are. I know that there are times in our lives where natures has ruled our lives becuase of what we humans were bred to do.

Though I believe in theanthropy, the belief that I was born in the wrong body, this is true because even animal instincts such as aggression effect our lives.

I think that if I could rank these, the order would be:
1st. Nature
2nd. Habit
3rd. Desire
4rd. Reason
5th. Passion
6th. Chance
7th. Compulsion.

I put nature first because it is my nature to act first, think later. Most of my actions are irrational and not though out in the amount of time before it happens.

I act most by habit. I scratch my back alot, then cross my legs, uncross them, cross them again, scratch my shoulder blade, ect. I even act out of habit. I have a problem called 'habitual lying'. :) And it sucks for me because I actually can't help it. The same way I cannot control my anger and where I direct it. :C

Yes i believe this is true. With chance you have nature. With compulsion you have habit. With habit you have reason. With reason you have a passion. With a passion you have a desire. If i had to rank thim i would as follows: You cant. You cant rank your life. To me i feel like thats being told what to do. Living your life like you have to do this or that. Like a robot. You cant put a rank or price on life. You just cant. I find it best to just go with it. Go with the flow. If something happens you dont like, tough shit, you have to deal with it and not let it keep and drag you down. The past couple of months i have been better with this and i have been more happyer then ever. You just cant rank life, or put a price on life. But not in order just lettin it out. Chance, desire, passion, reason, habit, nature and compulsion. You always have a chance at everything you do. No matter what it is what happened you always have a chance to do better. Desire, everyone has a desire to life. Where you wanna go or what you wanna be. I feel like this is what keeps me going and not giving up. Everyones not perfect no matter what you say or who you are. There is no one on this planet that is perfect. Everyone has their screw ups. Learn from them and move on. Dont dwell on it your whole life. Move on and let it go. Turn the page of the past and live your life like you would if it never of happened and you knew all along. Dont let it grow on you and keep you from every lil thing and everyone. If you have a desire to do something, dont let anything hold you back. Get out there and get it done. Get it done so you can fulfill your desire or your dream. Passion, everyone has a pission in life. For example my passion is to some day be happy and have a big nice home, family, kids, and a job. A job that i like to do. Be happy doing. Like working on cars. Thats my passion. Reason, everyone has a reason to be successful or life the way they do. Foe example, i completly hate my fathers guts because of the things he has done. I live my life like i do with out him. He has lost all respect for me because the way he treats me acts and things he has done to my mother. I dont care what anyone says, i will never see or love my father like i used to many many years ago. Habit, everyone has their habits. Some are funny and some unfourtanitly are not. But we have to respect that and not be an ass and call them out or put them down because of it. Dont put them down and make them feel different and alone. Thats the last thing to do. Because potentually that can make things much more worse then that are or need to be. And nature and compulsion...... i just dont know. The one thing people dont realise is how cruel they are to one another. People ar not all the same. People are nore sensitive then others and people dont realise that thats a big thing. I believe thats how many tragadies happen. Not knowing what they are or have dont to that person really really scares that person and that, that person can take it more worse then you would. People need to just think befor they do or say something because that can altamitly change their life and everyones around them.

I think that this quote is true because I honesty cannot think of a decision I have made in my life that did not result from one of the seven causes. I don’t have to make a decision to do anything unless one of these causes occurs. The rank I would have to put these in would be: nature, desire, reason, habit, passion, compulsion, and chance. I put nature first because I think that what’s in my nature generally guides me in decisions. It is who I am, and that is pretty difficult to change. The next would be desire, because although I’d like to say that reason rules my decisions before desire, I feel like sometimes reason is tossed out of the window when I really want something. I do think through a lot of my decisions though, so reason would be next. Habit is next, and I think it’s because after you have developed a habit, well, old habits die hard. Passion is next, because when I have a passion for something, I fight for it and chase after it. Compulsion is next, because I tend to occasionally do things out of compulsion. Chance is last, because things generally have a reason behind them. I only occasionally make decisions out of chance, but it rarely happens, and I think it almost goes hand-in-hand with compulsion, which only happens occasionally.

There is always a reason to do something in my life so that would be fisrt. Second would be habit. As you grow up you learn new things and grow accustom to doing things one way and you proceed to do things that way. Third would be disire. Fourth would be passion. Fith would be nature. Sixth would be chance. Last but not least, compulsion would be Seventh.

I think this is true because everything happens for a reason. I think, like this quote suggests, that some things happen naturally, and other things are caused by your actions. If I had to rankthese in order I would rank them: nature, reason, habit, passion, desire, compulsion, and chance. I think a lot of things happen that I have no control of. They just happen naturally. Second is reason because I like to make my own decisions in my life. Whether it's a good decision or not that is he cause. Next is habit because a lot of things I do are subconciously. Passion and desire are similar because it has to do with wanting something. Andbi do that sometimes. Last, compulsions and chance are not the most likely to happen so I put them last. Overall I agree with this quote completely.

I put habit first because i tend to do the same things a lot. They are usually good though because i learn from my mistakes. Chance is last because im not a very risky kid. I think that this quote is very true. All our actions have some reasoning behind them, even if we dont now them at the time. I would Rank them as chance, reason, habit, passion, desire, nature and compulsion. I choose chance first becuase i try things that i have no idea what i'm doing, so im taking a chance. I choosse reason second because theres always a reason why I am taking that chance. Habit third because somethings I do so much its a
habit now. Passion fourth becuase ceritan things I love doing at any given time. Desire becuase when i want to try something new i have a desire to do it. Nature and compulsion i dont realy have anything to relate them to.

I do agree with this. I say this because every action has a consequence, or an outcome. There are chances that we take in day to day life. Nature is something that we take advantage of, and dont use wisely. Compulsion can be a good thing or bad, all depends on the person. Habit is something that can take over anyone. There are good habits, and deadly habits. Drugs for example, are a very bad habit, along with smoking. There is a reason for everything we do. We do things with passion, edleast the things we love anyway. Everyone has a desire to do something, or be something. This can be a desire to go to a certain college, or a desire to live your life a certain way. I would rank these as: habit, chance, passion, desire, reason, nature, compulsion. I ranked them this way because this is how i feel are my causes for my actions.

"All human actions have one or more of these seven causes: chance, nature, compulsion, habit, reason, passion, and desire."

Mr. Kay,

I think that this is a true statement. Everything we do has a reason behind it. At first I was going to say that it wasnt true. I thought that since your life happens all by chance that this quote wouldnt apply.(but its in the quote). If I had to rank these, I dont think that you can. All events in life happen for a reason. If you were going to try and rank them, it would be like trying to rank which family member you love more. You just cant do that. All of the mentioned are all related to eachother. For instance, a desire could come about by chance and a habit could come from a desire to do something. They all tie in together.

I think this quote is true. The seven causes really sum up a lot of the reasons that we make the choices we make. It helps us to understand the thinking process and hopefully to make better decisions. Its kind of hard to rank these decisions in order though because I think it depends on what kind of decision. If its a decision like brushing my teeth than thats obviously habit and I would do it. But for bigger decisions, I act out of what I desire for my life. I make a lot of compulsive decisions too and spontaneously think to do certain things. These are usually not important decisions but usually make life interesting. I chose to do lacrosse compulsively and the same for grease, I decided it would be fun so I tried it. Some of my decisions have reason behind them like when I have to think really hard about something. Passion behind something isn't really a big cause of decisions in my life. Neither is nature. It kind of is because a lot of the things I do like who I talk to, what to wear, and stuff like that are second nature to me and just make sense. I'm not really sure where chance comes in in the whole decision making thing because when things happen by chance its not really decision making. So I don't really know how to put these things in order but I explained them all.

I believe this quote is true because I cannot think of any other reason why humans make an action. Everyday we go through most of these seven causes and do so without noticing. Every human being starts out with the cause of nature. This is what you use when you are a baby before you are taught things. Then comes chance. The next two major causes are compulsion and habit. We have to learn these things before we use them to make decisions. Then comes reason, passion then desire. After learning what life is about, and obtaining the knowledge of wisdom you begin to form decisions from passion and desire.

I think this statement is true. All of the seven causes are things thought about on a day to day basis. When making decisions I feel we should think of the causes that may occur when you do something. An example of using these seven things is smokers. It may change there life and Nature and they probably have a reason for doing it and it may be a habit it may be a passion or compulsion and it may be desired by smokers. This can be done with many if not all situations. I think another cause that could be on there is pressure. if I were to order them i would put them in this order. Passion, Desire, Nature,Compulsion, Habit, Chance. I put it in this order because when doing this you should first think about what you desire or are passionate about then i put nature cause you need to do things by instinct sometimes. I put chance at the end cause you should go for things you care for rather then it coming to you by chance.

I think these are fairly true. I mainly base decisions off of these in my life. I would say most other people in this world do the same. My order is Habit, desire, passion, reason, nature, chance, and compulsion. I say this because 9 times out of ten you do things by habit. I put reason in the middle because I seem to ony use that 50% of the time. These may not be 100% true all the time but on an average basis this seems about right. This probably flexes with the person and their personality though. This is the list that best describes my actions, even though this decision was from desire. Mainly because I really did not feal like bloggng tonight.

I agree that all our actions are determined by those seven causes. When I look at my choices the seven causes are at the basis of all my actions. For example, when I chose to do this blog I use compulsion. I am compelled to do the blog so I get a good grade and avoid detention. I also use habit, because we have done this for so long.

I would rank the seven causes:
1. Reason - I have a reason for what I am doing
2. Compulsion – I am compelled to do things that are to my benefit.
3. Habit – Things that I do all the time.
4. Desire – I do things that I like.
5. Passion – I am not that passionate on things
6. Chance – I rarely take chances
7. Nature – I don’t know what this means

I completely agree with this quote. Everything a person does has a cause behind it, whether you realize it or not. I would rank these, desire, passion, habit, nature, reason, compulsion, chance. I put desire first because whenever I really want something I work extremely hard to get it. I think that its just human nature that if someone really wants something then they will work harder to get that goal. Passion is another thing that is a cause for things I do. If i have a passion for something then I will do better at it because I love to do it. I put chance last because I don't like putting things to chance. I like to be positive that something will happen, i don't like not knowing.

I believe that this statement is true because there has to be a reason behind someones actions. Everything I do has one of these factors. Looking at these I can see things that I do because of habits, and my nature and because of desire. Even if you don't notice it, everyone uses these with every action they make. I would rank these reason, desire, passion, habit, compulsion, nature, and chance. I believe this is what my order is because I always look at reason first. Like what the reason I play basketball is. Then of course I make actions because of desire, like if I want to work at school. I have a desire to work. I think that reason is the highest because I always need a reason for why things are happening. Also I never do things for no reason. I wouldn't like hit somebody for no reason. I think that this is the most important one because everyon wants a reason for why you are doing something.

i think that this is kinda true humans have all these actions. the reason that i think that this is true is because at some point in life we hit one of these points. in my life they would go in order like this. Habit, desire, passion, reason, chance, nature, and compulsion.

I do believe that this quote has truth to it. because every day, we see those who were given things by luck, and everything aligned. for some, nature will take its course, on them. Some compulsively need to do things at times, and at some point, that compulsion becomes a habit. then we all reason with others, ourselves, and our minds. some have a passion for others, and some have a desire to tell them their passion.

this seems to be incomplete. it doesn’t really grab all the human emotions.

i don't think a single person could rank these for an entire group, but individuals may have their own which may be important. fior me, they would go roughly like this:
1. reason: its something i use more than others, to get by with the tasks at hand.

everything else really comes in second for me. some i wish i had, or could share, while others i am glad i don't act out upon.

In any case, all those action are always being in use, at any given moment.

I'd have objected and put "compassion" if there were not "nature" and "reason" in the list. "Nature" is the "reason" for everything in this world. The meaning of nature immensely include from biological nature, atmosphere, and environment to everything goes around us. Therefore nature is what determines and explains all phenomena. They may think a million-dollar donator's charity was because of his love for children. But, fundamentally saying, it's because of the nature, in other words, the environment, he grew up made him be inclined to help kids; for instance, he was lack of the love of his parents in his boyhood. Eventually, my answer to your first question is yes it's true. In, and, re-ordering part, as I explained enough how the nature and reason can represent everything else, I'd put them in order of reason, nature, and, for my personal life experience, passion, desire, habit, chance, and compulsion.
It's pretty interesting to see how ancient philosophers in both Eastern and Western countries used to create a famous saying, using specific details. Maybe around the time era they were more focused on practicality.
