Day 22

Tell me about your project. Why did you pick the topic you did? Where there personal experiences or just an interest? How could you become more active in the cause that you are working on? How can you get more people involved in this area? After working on this project for so many days, do you feel or think differently about the topic? Why or why not? Why do you think this specific project was put into the 10th grade curriculum?

Well the project that Katlyn and I picked is on poverty in Michigan. To tell the truth I don't know why we picked it. It was just something I thought of and we went with it. Now that I know more about it though, and how much people are affected by it, I see that it's not a joke. It's something that needs to be taken care of. I think that I could donate money or food to a cause that goes towards helping people in poverty. I believe doing this site that we're making could help if it turns out good. I know that, for me, my thoughts about this definately changed. Before I started on this project I didn't think that there was much poverty, if any, in Michigan. Though, now that I know more, I see that there is a lot of poverty in Michigan. I think this project was put in the 10th grade curriculum so that we could see how much the world needs activists, because withouth them we'd have a crappy place to live in.

My topic is poverty. I didnt really pick the topic my partner did. I could give money to charaties to become more active for this. Other people could give money to charaties too. Or do one one of those support a child things. After working on this topic i dont really know if i feel any different for about it. Ive raised money for kids that dont have alot of food with my church before so i guess i feel the same about it. I think that this project is in the 10th grade curriculuum so that you can learn howu to research things. And then make a websiote too.

Mr. Kay,

Amy and I picked the topic of AIDS. To be honest, I don't know why we picked that topic. I think that we needed something, and so Amy suggested AIDS, and thats what we picked. I have not had any experiences with AIDS at all. I think its kind of interesting, but it wouldn't be something that I would want to do again. We could become more active in the cause that we are working on by making a website or hold a fundraiser that would help raise money to help people with AIDS. We could create a website where you can sign up saying why you are trying to fight AIDS, and what you would do to help. Yes, and no. I feel bad for the people that have HIV or AIDS because its not a good feeling, but I still am not attaching to the subject, its just not for me. I think this project was put into the 10th grade curriculum so that we would not do it when we are older, and so we know what its about, and that that will hopefully prevent it in the future.

My project is on promoting helmets. Hopefully, to prevent someone from having a closed head injury. The reason I am advocating this cause is because I suffered a closed head injury. Personally, I have had to make many changes in my life because of my injury. Also, a friend of mine died from a snow boarding accident at Alpine. If my friend was wearing a helmet it might have saved his life. I could become more active in this cause by becoming more active in our community promoting the safety of wearing helmets. This project has given me more insight on brain injuries and places you can seek help at. Now that summer is coming upon us, there will be more biking, sporting events, motor cycle riding etc... these are activities that if you are not protecting your head you could have a serious accident. I feel strong about promoting helmet safety because I know what it can do to you. If just one person doesn't have to experience a TBI (traumatic brain injury), then it was well worth my time and effort to promote this cause. Many people are oblivious to the consequences that you may suffer because you didn't take the precaustion of wearing a helmet. You never think anything bad is going to happen to you; think again.

The topic that Cherie and I chose for our project is homelessness in Michigan. We chose this topic because we thought it was catchy and interesting. There wasnt neccesarily any personal experiences involved, but considering the many homeless people that i see on the streets everyday is pretty disturbing and sad. We could become active by going on the organizations we put on our website to help end homelessness. We could get more people involved by telling them the seriousness of homelessness and how great of a feeling it is to help someone in need. I definetly think differntly of this subject. I had no idea how many people in Michigan are currently living without a home. I think this project was put into the curriculum because its teaching kids to become better social activists, and getting kids to learn more about a subject, and get involved with differnt organizations to help out.

The topic me and t picked was people who are mentally disabled. We eventually focused in on autism. T had a personal experience, not with autism, well maybe, but he attended the special olympics. I had an interest and thought it would be an intriguing topic. We put a page on the site talking about how to get people who view our site to get proactive about it, and ways for getting myself involved is the same way. Im finding all sorts of ways to get involved and I should try one. To get people in our area more involved is to find programs or organizations here in oakland county. If people see that theres way to help locally, it might make them want to help. Another way is to simply donate. I do feel a little bit differently on the topic, Im more cognizant of the words I use. I think this project was put in our curriculum because its a good way for us to start to open up to the rest of society.

John and i chose the topic of animal cruelty. There was no personal history about the topic only interest. I chose this topic because i think it is very important to protect animals. They themselves cannot donate, or start organizations to stop animal cruelty and that's why its important the community becomes involved. To become more active on this topic i could donate to foundations or adopt a pet. I think the best way to get people involved is to send out the message. Maybe going door to door or setting up an informational stand outside a local building. I've always thought animal cruelty was wrong but throughout the duration of this project i learned how it effected the masses. I wasn't aware how many animals are being abused and all the different ways animal cruelty has become present. I think this project was put into the 10th grade curriculum because were starting to become more independent. We are starting to grow as individuals and learn responsibility. So if there was a cause that we wanted to fight for we could.

My project is on the YMCA organization. I picked this topic because it interset me. Also, because I played some sports there to. How I can get people to become more active in the cause by telling them how fun it is. How I can get people involved in this area by putting up flyers to join in. No, I don't feel differently about my topic because the the information that I got online was kind of what I already knew. I think this project was put into the 10th grade curiculum because it can give us more learning opportunities.

Mr.Kay,
I decided to do my project on going green. I mainly picked this topic because global warming is a bid issue right now. I think people need to be aware of what they are doing to the enviornment and how they can make it better. I guess you could say this is both an intrest and and experience because i live on earth, which is the big issue. By myself i can recycle, turn lights off and not waste electricity. But with everyones help we all can lower our energy bills, save money and help the enviornment. After working on this i pretty much feel the same only becasue i do this topic every time i do a project like this. But i do it becasue i really am interested in the enviornment and ways to help it. They probally put this in our curriculum because the things we are doing now are whats going to be the major issues when were adults(if that made any sense).

Well Ty and I choose the consequences of war because it is a topic rarely discussed. I think it is just an itntrest because u never hear exactly how many people are effected by war. Also, its amazing how many people give their lives for war. It is all for the good of a country, but really no good comes from it. I think more people need to know the consequences of war and i think we need to have our citizens know that. We should have psa's on the issues and commericals. I dont really feel diffrent about out topic because i kinda knew what the results were going to be. I think this project is in our ciriculum because so we can all be leaders and stand up for what we belive in and be activists.

Tyler and I picked skin cancer as our topic. There really wasn't any significance but we wanted to do something involving cancer because it was an interesting topic. Skin cancer was our final choice because we knew we had to narrow it down. I really don't think that I could become too active in this topic because I would play a very small role. However I could start up some fundraisers and donate my time and money to the cause. I know it wouldn't be all that much but it would still help. I think more people could get involved if they learned more about the cancer. It is related to everyday activities because it has to do with the sun. They would then see what everything is like for the people who do develop cancer. I always felt pretty serious on Skin cancer because I know how dangerous it can be and I know it could possibly kill me. I think this project was put into the 10th grade curriculum because it will help us get a better understanding of all the issues out in the world. It will get us teenagers to stop just thinking about oursleves and look at the whole picture.

Me and Apollo did bullying, appropriate no? As a slightly awkward nerd, and Apollo being a proud furry, we both were subjected to forms of bullying. Our studies have shown us that everyone has been bullied at least a numerous amount of times before high school. Right now, we cannot do squat. The economy sucks so dramatic action should be initiated ASAP. Bah, I knew just a little bit more than before just little tib-bits. "Bullying is a immature and incorrect way of showing you have issues." and some statistics. I still feel it is a flaw in the human psyche that may take awhile to fully understand and when the origins are found we must chisel it into the "BIG BOOK OF PARENTING NO-NOS" and forward humanity. It's most likely that we are being taught to stick up for what we believe in.To be politically committed it our beliefs. It's effects feel questionable, but I'm not really sure why...

Well me and ruffin did drug awareness. We picked this topic because as everyone knows, highschool is the time when drugs and alcohol are introduced into a teens life. I could be more active by stressing the consequences of drugs an the impact they can have on someones life. Hopefully by doing this website, more people will participate in informing their kids and others about drugs. I feel differently about drugs now because I never really considered all the side effects that come with some of the drugs. It made me realize the seriousness of some of the drugs. I think this project was put into the 10th grade curriculum because we need to be more involved at this point in our life. Soon we will be getting jobs and this will help us interact with people and help others get involved.

Alex and I picked alcoholism as our topic for this project. I picked this project because I truley no that no matter how fun it is, it can ruin lives. I've had personal expiriences with alcohol since I was young and I grew up learning the hard way. I know or have know many alcoholics and watched them struggle for many years. I still see it now with friends and others at school. Although I knew alcohol could ruin a family, and eventually lives, i never fully knew the mental and health problems it could cause. Looking at the educational websites and awareness websites i learn that its very harmful. It actually kinda shocked me the health issues it causes and mental issues. This is a sophmore projct because we get to still pick our own topics, but learn more helpful things and get into it more. Were getting involved and trying to help which is a good underclassmen project.

Me and Hunter chose to do supporting the troops. We picked this project because he knew a lot about it and I was very interested in it. It is a good topic to do with a lot of information about. I could be more active in this by promoting the topic. I had both my grandpas in WW2 and I supported thier reasons for fighting. I could get more people involved in this by telling them about the efforts made to support our troops. There are a lot of organizations out there that support troops and you can involved in them very easily. After working on the project I began to realize how important it is to support the troops. After all these people are fighting for our country and we should acknowledge them for doing it. I think this projct was put on the curriculm to get us out there and learn more about things.

For my progect I picked Global Warming. I more picked it just for intrest. Global warming is a serous thing and I thought that it would be good to learn a bit more about it and show others. I could become more active in it in a lot of ways. There are many ways to help. I could car pool to places to use less gas. I could also use less energy around the house. This will lesses the natural fossils burning to create the energy that I use. I can get more poeple invalved by telling them to do the same thing. There are many ways to cut back on the causes of global warming. I feel a little bit differnt on it. I diddn't realize how much global warmin was affecting us and the animals that live in the world. I think that this progect was put togheter in 10 grade because people not relate to the things until they are older. Also they may beable to help and stop some of these things because they are older.

Kristen and I decided to to lung cancer, as our topic for this project. We picked this as our topic because, we both know that there are a lot of smokers out there in the world, and I'm sure there are a lot of kids out there who smoke as well, unfortunately. Although, the schools cover the consequences of smoking and such, we felt people would get a much more clear understand if they knew all the facts. I personally do not have any experiences with lung cancer, nor does my family, but my mom has second hand smoke. My grandma when she was younger used to smoke cigarettes and my grandpa smoked the pipe. Years after my mom and uncle were born, my grandpa stopped, but my grandma continued on. Until one day, she got really sick, with phenomena. During that period of time, she did not once smoke. Once she recovered she decided she never wanted to go through anything like that again, so she stopped too. All during this time, my mom grew up with the smoke in her environment, although they both stopped, she still has some damage. How I could become more active on this topic is by going to the hospitals and finding out more information. Information research can't give you. My mom is a nurse in Providence Hospital, and has an in with the doctors. There are many people out there in the world, who won't be able to be treated, because they do not have enough money to pay for any procedures. How I could help is by raising money to various cases where the patient cannot afford to pay, and has their life at risk. After working on this project for so long, it really made me realize that smoking is a bad decision. I've never wanted to do smoking in the first place simply because I hate the smell, but after researching this project it made m think about what could happen. You could get lung cancer, plus, your teeth turn yellow, you get a horrible stench, bad breathe, and a smokers cough. All very unattractive characteristics. I think this project is part of the 10th grade curriculum because we are getting older, and will be start making our own decisions. I believe that being aware of what is happening in the world, what you should do, or what you shouldn't, will really make students think first before doing something they'll later regret.

The project that Jordan and i picked was about how bad war is. We picked this topic becasue war has costed the U.S so much and people are dying everyday. This was really just a interest of mine. Mainly because i know people that have been in war so i guess it is a personal experience too but mainly interest. I could donate stuff to fundations to halp support the cost of war. I can advertise how bad war is and hopefully that will make more people involved. I do think a little differently mainly because i didn't know the exacts about war and the cost is really high along with all the deaths and the list goes on and on. I think because we are at the age where we can start getting involved is why we put this in the 10th grade curriculm.

Alanna and I chose the topic of lung cancer. We chose this topic because there seemed to be a lot of information about it. Also, both our mom's are nurses so we both could get extra information from them. I guess you would call it more of an interest. I could become more active in the cause by donating money or spreading the word on it. By explaining how many people are affected by it you could get people in my area involved. I do feel differently about this topic because I never knew how many people were affected by this. It's the 2nd most common cancer and extremly dangerous. I think this was put in the curriculum because it shows us hard work and gives us knowledge on a subject that is currently in the world.

My project is about Mute Swans. Instead of just randomly picking a cause to go with I tried to think of a cause I cared about. I use to live on a lake before i recently moved. We lived on the canal part, across the canal was a Mute Swan. The swans nest was there and she spent all of her time circling the the water and protecting her nest. Than about a month before we moved some people had made a decision to get rid of the swans eggs, saying that mute swans were aggressive. While these swans in particular are aggressive does not mean they should be destroyed or removed. They are only aggressive when humans agrivate them. However if you leave them alone they leave you alone. So that is why I choose this subject, because I feel it is not humane to take these beautiful creatures off the lake because they protect themselves and there nests. I want to be more active about the cause by letting people know these are peaceful animals when handled the right way. I think this specific project was put into this curriculum because we need to be aware. When your a teenager your not really involved in that much in the community. So I think this project was made to inform and include us.

yeah cool this site just kicked me off so i have to do this blog all over again SWEEEEt. anways i pickedd the topic domestic violence bc its a crime and i believe no one should hit another person for any reason. today people get hit and they cant do anything like women some of us are not as strong as men. so this leaves many women with a big problem. of course we all know siblings fight, but i know people that think it is right to hit a girl and seriously that is messed up. if i hear that anymore i think i will i dnt even no what id do, because violence is not the answer and i dont believe in snitchingbut if it gets out of hand i willtell someone. i could get more people involved by having funds through the school im sure everyone would want another school tshirt saying stop violence. i dont no just so many people no it is wrong to lash out on someone, others dont it all needs to bve stopped. i really dont feel differently i jjust feelit needs to be stopped more n more, but really makesme madis when girls think they are all tough and want to kick a guys ass when they know they are tougher then them, those girls need to cool it. it was put in our curriculum bc alot of us need to be more aware and know how to not playgerize other people.

My project is about animal cruelty. I picked this becuase i think it is a very bad thing to do to a poor helpless animal. I have no past experince with this but i feel that it needs to be brought to the peoples attention so we can stop it now before its to late. Something that i could do to become more active in the cause of animal cruelty, would be volinteer at an animal shelter to help take care of those who are hurt. I believe that if you let people know about the harms of this topic then more people will get involved and help stop it. From working on my project I have found that this is no joking matter and it needs to STOP, its so sad and it makes me feel horrible. I think that this was put into our curriculum because they want us to get more involed with our community and volinteer for a good cuase.

Mr. Arts Beats and Deets and I chose the topic of Mental disabilities. We decided to do this topic because we both feel very strongly about the way people with mental disabilities are being treated. There were both personal experiences as well as interest of learning more about the topic of mental disabilities. I feel i am already involved with this topic. I have participated as a volunteer in the Special Olympics, served as a T.I.E.S. and worked at Toys for Tots. I can only encourage friends and members of the community to participate but if they are there for the wrong reason they shouldn't come. After working on this project I feel even stronger about the subject of mental disabilities. I feel stronger because I have learned more information and have found other ways to help those with mental disabilities. I think this project was given to show 10th grade students how to get involved and take a stand on something they feel strongly about.

Tim and I chose to do our project on child abuse. We didnt really have any connections to this, but thought it was a problem and wanted to look into it more. I think that to help this we can be more aware of it in our society. I tihnk that we should know that people might be experiencing some unusual things at home. Also, we could contribue to a local community group against child abuse. After looking into this, i never knew it was this bad. I never thought so many peopel would do this to their children. I tihnk that this topic was given to us because all year we have been learnign to get deeper into things, and this makes us continue to. I tihnk that it makes us think deeper about a social injustice, another thing we have done all year.

I choose the NRA as my topic because I enjoy shooting and hunting. I had both personal experiences and had a interest in it. I could be more active in my cause by telling more people about it. Megan and I chose to do a website about poverty. I personally, wanted to get some more insight into the topic and learn just how bad it is in the United States. I knew it was an issue, so I also wanted to know what I could do to help. I can be more active in the cause by making people aware of just how bad it is. Many people are uneducated about the extremity of this issue facing our nation. With the economy the way it is, it's harder than ever for poor families to stay on their feet. I can get more people involved in this area by, again, making them aware. I can persuade them to volunteer at a food bank, and I can even do the same. I feel a lot different about this topic after researching it. I didn't realize so many families in our home nation were hungry and homeless. I think it was put in the curriculum because 10th grade is when people start making opinions based on fact. This way they can create their own opinions through research.

Mr. Kay,
I chose the topic of saving Art Education. I think it is very important to have arts introduced to you at a young age. I think it is as, if not more, important than the core school classes. From the research I have been doing, I have realized that it helps kids become better at everything else; such as reading, speaking, processing, anything of that nature. Not only that, but it infects kids with the idea of art early on so they can have a colorful life, rather than it just being boring and bland. It sort of came about by an interest because when I heard schools can't afford to have art classes, I thought the art classes are actually more important than most other classes, so why are they getting cut. To become a more active member, I would suggest donating, or raise awareness so someone will donate so you can quite literally save the music. In this area, you could just donate to local charities. By doing this project, it definitely piqued my interest in the subject even more. It made me realize so go without art, and art is the most useful things in our lives. Think of the world with no music, no vibrant colors, no wacky styles, no anything. I guess the only thing left out after art is information. Everything in life would be information. Its that boring. See the idea just infected my mind after enough exposure. I think this was put into the curriculum because I think we should be aware of more than friends and mindless junk, and realize there are people less fortunate that need things. Not only that, but we become better people. If we get involved like this. We are better people.

Me and Danielle chose to do disease. We specifically chose HIV/AIDS. We chose this because it is such a huge problem that exists everywhere. So many people die each year from the horrible disease. If only people would protect themselves and get tested. It was an interest. I could become more active in the cause by encouraging those to get tested and help people to get the knowledge that they should know. If schools taught even more about this, then more people would be a aware. They should have an assembly about AIDS and the importance of getting tested. I learned that this topic should be taken more seriously by teens. It seems like we could never catch this, or that it wouldnt happen to us, but it can. Teens are almost 50% more likely to get this disease because of teens becoming active. This was put in the curriculum so we can help the community and learn how to get active.

Derek and I are working on the topic 'BULLYING'. As for a personal connection to the topic, it should be obvious each day. And if it isn't, then an explanation is in order then, hm?

I am a victim to bullying. As far back as I can remember I have been bullied, pushed around, and emotionally neglected. The aggressors nowadays know who they are, and think they're real funny. I have a pretty good idea why you do the things you do, because I've seen it and I have done it. I don't know why bullies like doing what they do, but it makes me sick to push others around.

As far as Derek goes, well, the effects of the torment he receives is visual. But I cannot say exactly...

I am as active as I can be in this area of social activity, but I can't stop people from hurting others.

I think as strongly as ever against the wrongful punishment that students believe they should dish out to innocent others.

And I believe this project was put into the curriculum in order to get students active and knowledgable of the world around us.

My partner and I chose the topic of teen pregnancy. Part of the decision was because we wanted to do poverty, due to the fact that both of us have helped out at the Grace Center of Hope in Pontiac. When other people took what we wanted to do, we picked this. A girl in my high school youth group at my church got pregnant about a year ago when she was a junior. She had a healthy baby boy and loves him greatly, but it has changed her life forever. I could become more active in this by helping raise money for teens in the community that have a child. Plus, at Lakeland, we can form almost any club we want to if we go through the process, so I could make a club focused on helping teenage mothers in the area, involving my school members as well. After the time that we have spent learning about teen pregnancy, I have come to realize just how many teenage mothers there are in the United States alone. I just thought it happened occasionally, but this has really opened my eyes. It’s estimated that one in three girls will become pregnant before they reach the age of 20. I think this specific project was put into the 10th grade curriculum is to open our eyes to some of the major issues we have in our world today. Also, I think it shows us how to get involved, rather than just sitting back and allowing somebody else try to impact others.

Mr. Kay,

The reason I chose my topic was because it doesnt get enough attention. I want to get the message out there that child abuse is more common of an existence than people think it is. One way that I can get more involved is by making this project the best that I can. I need to let people know about this kind of thing thats going on. People need to realize that child abuse goes on, even though it may not be publicised. I do feel differently about this than before. Before this project I just thought that this was any other thing that happened and didnt really care. then when I saw all of the stats of what really happened, I was really brought back to reality.

I picked heart disease because my mom had a heart attack at the age of 39. Which is really rare. She has also had open heart surgery. I dont think that I can become more active because when ever I have money I donate it to the American Heart Assocition. I do everything I can do at 16 years old. My mom alomst needed a blodd transfusion. So everyone in my family took a blood test to see who matched her. I was the only one who did. I was willing to give my mother some of my blood. She is ok now. I just want to put it out there that these kinds of things happen to kids. I think that this project is required for 10th graders because we are alomst out og high school. And we need to know what is going on. We need to know how we can help the less fortunit in the world.

I have picked my topic of hunger beacause few people know about the hunger in oakland county. Let alone our school district which is 25% on free or reduced lunch, that is 1 out of 4 people in the school district. The topic interests me beacause of how serous the topic is and the little people that know about it. I could become more active for the cause by helping the school more during the food drive and getting others to donate too. There is also other ways to be active when it comes to fighting hunger, like help packaging food at a food bank or warehouse. I could get more people in this area to help the cause, by collecting cans or non-perishable food. My feely towards this project, has changed after learning the facts, and learning really how bad it is for some. It also makes me feel lucky, beacause i know every night that i am going to have food, and some people don't know come home from school wondering if there will be food. If my family was going through tough times i would like to know that someone was helping me and cared. I think that this project is in the 10th grade curriculum beacause it changes how people think about promblems localy.

In this projct i got off to a late start with some problems and confusion but have got right to it after this. I have decided to do my project on Teen Drug Abuse. The reason i pickied this is because being in highschol, we all are surrounded by influences and drugs everywhere. Drugs are a big thing in our school and i feel if everyone got together and were to express to others the results and outcomes of drugs many will either stop or not even have the thought of doing drugs in there head. Currently i have not got tons of info due to the problems but i feel just from personal knowledge and statistics i have read up on in the past and today, i feel drugs are easily the stupidest thing that someone can do to their body. My question to others is what exactly is the benefit? It just does not make any sense. The main reason for doing this topic is because ofour grade in general. Not saying we are the main supporters of drugs but i feel at our age with all of the older kids, we are expecially influenced and pressured into doing so. Not only that but at our age it is a great time to learn and take in the advice and information of why to act and not allow drugs in our society and school. That is why i feel this topic is so important torward our 10th grade class.

Clare and I chose to do our project on homelessness in America. The main reason we picked this project is because it is a worldwide issue, and very common in Michigan. We have seen homeless in Michigan cities, and other places as well, and we wanted to find more information about it. I could become more active in the cause by joining one of the many organizations I have been researching the last couple of days. There are a lot of community organizations that help the homeless find and keep a stable household. I still feel the same about homelessness, that it is a worthy cause, but now I am more educated on the subject. I had no idea that so many people across the nation live without a home each night. It has been something I have always taken for granted, and now I know that I am lucky to have a house to come home to everyday. More than before I want to become involved with this cause because I was not aware of the seriousness of it all. I think that this project was put into the 10th grade curriculum because we have read about social activism, and we should experience being activists ourselves. It is one thing to read about something, and another to go out and experience it yourself.

Well I picked the topic of drug awarness cuz it is a very interesting topic. Being at lakeland it is really hard not to here about drugs. I thought it was only right to learn more about what I hear. Well I could be come a lot more active by holding an after school awarness club. Well as a teenager it is only natural to be curios about drugs so I think it would be easier to get peoples attention. As I have been working on this projecti get more interested everyday. I don't know why but I do. I think it was put into the 10th grade level cuz this is the time when kids start to think and wonder. Freshman year you are afriad of everything. By the time you get to 10th your mind wonders and u want to expirinent.

My project is on brain tumors. I chose this topic because I had originally chosen cancer in general. I decided to narrow it down to brain tumors because doing cancer in general would be too much work. Another reason is that my mom had some information that she got from the DMC when she and the girl scouts were giving out hat to chemotherapy patients. There are a number of ways that I could help people with brain tumors. Some examples I could get involved with the programs that help them and raise money to benefit research or help the families that are going thought this hard time. I could get more people involved by finding out if people from my church would raise some money for this cause. I feel that this disease causes a load of stress on the families. They need all the help that they can get. I don’t have any clue on why this project was in the 10th grade curriculum.

The main topic of our project is Skin Cancer and Skin Cancer organizations. I chose this topic not mainly because it is skin cancer but because it is cancer period. One of my cousins was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 4 months. After a month of treatment her little body couldn't take it any more and she passed away. Then a year later my grandma was diagnosed with breast cancer and after treatment she has been going strong sense then. Becoming more active in this cause would be letting people know how important sun screen is. After working on this topic I think I feel about the same as I did before honestly. I think this because I still hate how devastating cancer is and how it ruins the lives of people in the US every day. I think this project was put into the 10th grade curriculum because it gets many kids thinking about all of the things that we can do for one another to keep us safe and healthy.

me and taylor chose to do our project on destrution of mute swan nests. it is kind of random but we picked this topic because we felt that what is haappening isn't right. we could become more active by mabey going to an animal rescue place and talking to people who work there and seeing if there is anything that we can do to help thier nests from being destroyed. to get more people involved i think we just have to inform others. most people have a heart for animals and would understand if they new what was happening. i still feel the same about his topic because i think it is wrong to destroy swans nests and their eggs. this project was probably put into the curriculum because it is a good way for us to learn about websites, since computers are such a big part of society, and just lke any other project how to manage time and work with others.

Well Hailey and I did ours on education. it was my idea because I think there is to many people who don't have an education. To many people who drop out. Or even people who don't get the chance to try and learn new things. This was just an interest I had in mind. I could try and help the people i know go back to school. instead of just letting them fail. well one way i could get people involved is a website like were doing in class. but also asking my friends about it. advertising it and so on. well we have been working on this project for a while now. But i feel pretty much the same as i did before. Education is very important to everyone's daily lifestyle. I Think this was put in a tenth grade curriculum because, we should learn about everything at an early age.

I was absent the day you introduced the project so I didn't find out about it till the next day. Tamm said I was his partner and we were doing our project on poverty. So we did. The only personal experiences I have with it are my youth group doing a ton of fundraisers and different activities to help poverty. I can become more active in the cause by learning more about it like I am now and speaking out for it and telling people. I definitely feel differently about this topic after working with it for so long. I used to just think about the kids in Africa and that poverty in the US was rare. Now I know that it is not, its really bad. Some people are living without a house and not knowing where their next meal is coming from. It makes me feel really lucky to be where I am but I also want to do something to help this. This is probably in the 10th grade curriculum to give us a chance to have some free thoughts and find a good cause. We need to be more independent and also stay educated about the world.

The project i picked is alchoalism. I picked this because it is a well known problem. Many people have alchohalism and need help to fix it. My uncle is an alchohalic. he drinks wayyyy to much. He wont admit that he has a problem eather. I would get more involved about alcholhalism by setting up A.A meetings, and getting sponsers for the people that really need them. working on this project has shown me that some people really are alchohalics. They drink right when they wake up untill they go to bed, everyday. They screw their whole life up because they have a problem. Doing research on alchohalism hasnt really changed my mind about anything. Just completly informed me of the dangers and the things it will do to you. I think this project was put in the 10th grade ciriculam because they want kids to get involved young and they want us to see how easy it is to help people and we can do anything if we set our minds to it

I did my project on the NRA. The reason that i picked this topic is because like thing that have to do with guns. There really isn't much experience unless you consider hunting an experience. A way that i could become more active in this topic is to become a DNR officer. a way to get more people involved is to get younger kids to start hunting. I don't feel any different because i always knew a lot about gun rifles. I do not think that this was put in to the curriculum.

in my project, i am working in an effort to raise awareness about mental disorders / abuse. Its something that just hits home to me, and i feel that, and i thank my lucky stars, ever single day, that i have the ability to do what i can. many people still use the word retarded, and many people still throw the word around for fun. it really pisses me off, because the people who throw those words around, will hopefully never have to know what its like. because that is a life burden. i thank my god that i am not mentalaly challenged, and i thank my parents for not being those who were down on me about everything. because, most people don't see it, but parents who yell at their children, and are negative around them a lot, can be considered to be mental abuse. it may not be recognized, but you better believe that it happens, and that it can be just as bad as physical abuse, to an extent. because it does take a significant toll on the persons attitude, and how they view life, and what they expect in it, and how to behave in this reality of ours.

I would love to start a charitable, non-profit organization, and get the word around. Even a school club advocating mental awareness, and to erase the stigma around mental disorders. I think a school club, or even a school assembly about this, would be fantastic.

I was changed about this topic, form the moment i knew that something wasn’t right with people, ,and that i could make a change. i think this is summing up a lot of what we have learned, and grasped in our minds, of all of the themes, and more awareness that’s going on around us.

A big thing i just noticed, is that this year, you have gotten us to think louder, speak up, be active, and make ourselves heard. maybe its just me, or maybe its everyone, but that’s what i learned. and yet i continue to learn. but this is the epitome of what we learned, and we are putting it to use. to become aware of the big bad reality that we will be joining all to often.

its scary as hell, but we will survive, hopefully...

Me and Kaleigh didn't pick the topic we have right away. We wanted to do poverty because we have helped out with things like that at her church. But when we saw that was already taken we chose teen pregnancy. This topic really hasn't affected me personally or any of my friends. But, one of my friends best friends just got pregnant. She doesn't know if she wants to keep it or not. To help this cause we could form a group or get something going to help out teenage mothers and to have real teen mothers come in and talk to others about what you have to do if you get pregnant and the consequences of your actions. From the start of this project after we picked our topic I feel about the same as I do now. I don't think that teen girls should get pregnant and if they do they shouldn't have an abortion. So my view has stayed the same through out the project, but now I know more facts about it and how many girls in Michigan really do get pregnant. I think that this project was put into the 10th grade curriculum to show us what different issues are out there in today's world.

The website topic I chose was hunger in Africa. For my parents' influence on me, having told me I'm expected to grow to help people, and the campaigns letting us know about the hunger in North Korea aroused me and made me realize the necessary need for the people who don't have the essential needs. That, while we worry about what to eat for dinner, hundreds of millions people worry about if they can eat, eventually determined me to choose this topic. Unfortunately, however, ashamed for my laziness, I'd not done sufficient amount of research during the time I was given, therefore I could not advance myself closer to the topic. For the question, how could I involve more people in this area, I would say "stimulate their sympathy." The most proper reason for this project to be put in 10th grade class is, in my thought, because you or whoever decided this project wanted us to become more active about the social issues and participate so as to become a model citizen in the future since we're young and it can be no better than having right education at this time to grow a person as a right person.

The topic that me and the Jin man chose to research on is the hunger crisis in Africa. I personally liked this topic because I have seen homeless people who are hungry in america and they do whatever they can to get a little food. Luckly in america there are soup kitchens and other ways for the homeless to get food. In Africa the hunger is happening to people that don't have the liberty to go to the soup kitchens or churchs to get food. This drew me in because these people are dying and nothing is being done. I think that by supporting the organizations that help hunger in africa is a major way to get involved with this problem. I deffinetly feel that there should be something done to help these poor people. I think that the organizations that have already been created are helping, but more could be done. I think that this specific project was chosen for 10th grade because we have been learning about leading and not being followers. By doing this project people will be following us and we will have the chance to help others while we do this.

My project is about supporting our troops. I just had an interest for this because it seems very kind and benificial. I can be more active by joining these organizations that help this cause. I think getting more people involved is fairly easy and I can do this from my website. I really have no different fealings about this subject after doing this project but I still support what I did before. I stay the same because I have always had family members active in supporting our troops. I think this project is important because it shows how much effort we can put into our work.

We picked domestic abuse as our project. i feel we picked this because it is not very well recognized. not many people really understand the broad horizon that falls under domestic abuse. I think it was just and interest for me. i can become more active on this by making my site a more interactive site for all people seeking help for all of these problems. I do feel differently on this topic now knowing a lot more on what it all is and some statistics on everything that has happened. I think it was put in a 10th grade curriculum because we are able to understand what to do on it and we can comprehend everything and learn from it to.

The valuable relationships in my life consists of people who I know will always support me and be there for me whether they are blood related or not. One relationship I have is with my step mom, some one who I am not blood related to, but I can always talk to her about anything thats on my mind and she can give me an honest opinion on what she thinks. Another important relationship I have is with my dad. I respect him for everything he does for me and his family. Another relationship is with my older sister, Carly. She lives in Florida but I still look up to her as a mature and wise person. A relationship that I'm sure everyone values is the one with their mom. My mom has been through a lot and teaches me through her experiences. One last relationship that not a lot of people value is the one I have with my boyfriend. I know he will always support me with whatever I want to do and will always be there for me. So I guess in my opinion relationships are valuable when they have the respect and support that either person will need.
