A US army soldier was sentenced to prison for the killing of 4 Iraqi prisoners. His sentence was for life because they said this was an unnecessary thing to do. However I think this could be the correct thing to do. You never know how dangerous these people can be. They could end up killing him. This connects to my life because I believe a life for a life. I think that if these Iraqi prisoners killed our men or other people, they sshould pay the ultimate price; death. People who go around killing others for no reason should not be on this earth. I think that the judge really needed to pay attention to the soldier's side of the story. He may have been provoked or told to by another person. I think that justice should be served because under the circumstances in todays life, the sentence was far too cruel to me.

My current even is about the ship "Alabama" that was taken over by pirates last week. A US cargo ship was taken captive by pirates off of Kenya, Africa. The pirates have been attacking our ships and taking Americans hostage for ransom. The caption of the "Alabama" offered himself as a hostage in exchange for the release of of his crew. He spent 3 days in a life boat with the pirates. When it looked like the pirates were going to harm the pilot, the US Navy SEALS shot the 3pirates point blank & killed them. The Captain arrived safely in Kenya today and will be flown back to the US to be with his family. Who would think we would still be dealing witb pirates today. This tory affects the security of the US because it is not acceptable for our citizens to be taken & held for ransom by pirates. We have to send out a message that this will not be tolerated by the US. We deserve safe travel & the US is doing everything possible to make this happen.

A group of people is taking tracking a endangered turtles travel to their nest and turning into a race. They will have a few turtles of their own and the rest will be sponsored by other people. By sponsoring a turtle you are paying for the technology to track it while it swims. They are letting a variety of people get in on it including schools and business. I think its a smart marketing technique. They are having Olympic swimmers be "coaches" and say their thoughts as it goes on. Whats cool about it is they are getting their research done while having fun with it. They are also have people choose a turtle and sponsor it and pay for the technology. Apparently bands like R.E.M and Pearl Jam have sponsored a turtle to show their support. Its cool that they marketed it this way so people can have fun and raise awareness about the endangered species.

this article actually suprised me a little. there were foods that i thought were really healthy for you but they turn out not to do much good for your body. they aren't much different than eating something else. the author found five foods that actully don't benefit you very much. the five were 2% milk, whole wheat bagels,Chicken Caesar Salad, fruit smoothies, and granola. people may be thinking foods like these improve their health when actually it doesnt really do anything.this can help me so that i make healthier choices and have more energy. if i have more neergy i will do better at school and soccer so it helps a lot.

http://news.aol.com/article/all-octopuses-venomous/430846

According to a new study, all octopuses are venomous. Researchers knew that the blue-ringed octopuse had venom, but they didn't know that others had venom as well. Recent studies have shown that all octopuses and cuttlefish, and some squid are venomous. All of these also show to share a common, ancient venomous ancestor. I also indicates new avenues for discovery.

I hate octopuses, and to find out that all of them are venomous just creeps me out more. Also, I don't see the point in making more drugs. Honestly, we have enough as it is and we don't need anymore.

The current event I found was about the two guys in North Carolina playing pranks while they were working at Domino's. They taped themselves putting cheese up their noses and sneezed it out onto the pizza. Then they put the video up on youtube and the Domino people found it. The two guys were fired but Domino's wants to file a civil lawsuit against them and there's a warrant out for their arrest. I think this is just gross and it was just stupid to do something like that. The pizza didn't get sent out to anyone but still, thats disgusting. It teaches people a lesson though, not to do stupid things. Some things seem funny at the time but it could get you fired or even worse.

Drug traffickers have been giving it all they got to smuggle drugs into the U.S. Officials said they have busted many trying to smuggle drugs in tires, fake gas tanks, and even paying teenagers to smuggle them. They are also using self-propelled semi-submersibles. These are less detectable boats that can sink so that only a few feet are showing. I think this its good that all of these smugglers are getting caught. I feel that people who get caught smuggling large amounts of drugs should get a life sentence in jail because people like this won't change. As soon as they get out of jail they are going to go right back to drug trafficking. I also like the fact that the U.S. is cracking down on smugglers.

The big thing in the news this week i have found is the talk about the wonderful susan boyles. Susan is a 47 year old lady who lives in scotland. The past week she was invited to sing on the hit TV show Britains got talent. She walked to the stage and everyone laughed at her wondering why she was wasteing her and everyone elses time. With the jugdes even laughing she began to sing, "i have a dream." Everyone went crazy including the judges and began to cry. They thought thst she was the most remarable person they had evry seen. She was givin three yeses and sent to the next round. The judges mentioned something about us people to watch out for her because she is going to be huge.

For todays current event I will be writing about how the UAW is focusing on talks with chrysler. On the United auto workers two people said that the unoin has placed talks with general motors. They are trying to forge a concession agreement with chrysler. The decision means that any deal with chrysler will set the pattern for GM. Both companies are trying to show the U.S. government that they are retructuring enough to justify more loans. People say the union is focusing on chrysler because it has a deadline to gain labor cost cuts and swap debt for equity is in two weeks. I think when the economy went bad I think the car companies are having trouble.

Today, i chose the U.S soldier that was sentanced to life in prison for killing 4 Iraqis. He was was sent to prison becuase according to people it was "unneccary" and he should be punished. This information was confirmed on Thursday morning. To me, i dont agree with this at all. What the soldier did was a safety procaution. He had no idea that those iraqis were going to kill him or not. This connects to my life because throughout the war with Iraq, the iraqis have killed plenty of our soldiers so we should be able to do the same, if we think we are in some kind of danger.

the current event i chose is president Obama reconciliating with Cuba. Since Raul Castro took over mnay countries have been urging the U.S. to end the blockade. Obama has decreased restrictions on Cuba and started to open some trade with them. I think this is important because it shows our governent is trying to do something. The blockade was causing rough living situations for Cubans, not to mention people in America weren't allowed to visit family there. I also think this is important because many presidents have said before that the best way to have peace in the world is to have world wide trade. I think every country should need to depend on each other, that way wars wont be started so quickly.

People have been worrying about all of the spam messages being sent in their e-mail. They are angry that they have to take time out of their day to get rid of all of this junk mail. This is not the peak of the spams destruction. Spam being sent, filtered, and deleted uses enough energy to power 2.4 million homes. This kind of energy emits the same greenhouse gasses equivalent to 3.1 million vehicles on the road. They have done man studies to find ways to stop all of this energy being used. THe answer is filtering. By filtering all your e-mails you can save about the equivalent of 13 million vehicles being taken off of the road.

This man had an addiction to drugs and spent many years trying to help himself but he kept having relapses. I can't really connect this to my own life, but i think alot of people probally can. Addiction is a powerfull thing that becomes a mind set and it's so hard to stop. People find themselevs devoping addiction becasue of stress or depression and things like that. I think it's a miricle in it's self when people can tell themseleves they need to change becasue things arent getting any better. The main lesson i got from this article is, if you know something is wrong, do somthing about it before it's to late.

Well something that will help our relations with foreign countries. I guess that's good news. Obama is lifting the whole water boarding thing that others have been frowning upon. Other harsh interrogation have been also suspended. Such techniques "undermine our moral authority and do not make us safer," he reiterated Thursday.
Only the article lacking these details of "Other harsh interrogation techniques" just makes me think that we are doing something worse than water boarding. Making the brain think that your drowning? Worse? Yikes that's horrible.

"This is a time for reflection, not retribution. I respect the strong views and emotions that these issues evoke. We have been through a dark and painful chapter in our history. But at a time of great challenges and disturbing disunity, nothing will be gained by spending our time and energy laying blame for the past," Obama concluded.

Well this will help soften his image I'm sure.

Reciently there has beem a lot of drug trafficing for mexico into San deigoe. Drugs have been found in tables, toys, candels and other objects. They will either choose to cross the border with the illegal drugs or take underground tunnels. They have found about 100 since the 1990s along the 1,950-mile U.S.-Mexico border. The most sophisticated tunnels have lights, air systems and hydraulics. As the drugs flow in tot he U.S. weapons and money flow down south into mexico. The drug trafficers will stop at nothing to get the drugs into the U.S. so they can make their money. They are dangerous and many are found each day. We need to put a stop to this before its to late.

All over the news today, they are talking about Obama's new plan for a high-speed railroad. It is an $8 billion plan, but that is just to start the program. In order to complete the railroad system, around another $40 billion is estimated to be needed. Currently, three New England rail routes are competing for billions of dollars under the new plan. The money would be used from taxes, which are already going to be raised in the next decade. I am not sure if this is the best time to be thinking about building these new high-speed railroads. With the economy the way it is, we are just trying to keep auto industry alive. I'm not completely against this plan though, because it could make many new jobs and make travel more efficient. Over all, this just amazes me, because the government is spending billions of dollars so often now that it almost seems commonplace. I'm not looking forward to when I have to get out of college and pay off all of this government spending.

Since yesterday was the tax deadline, many 'tea parties' spring up around different U.S. cities. The famous phrase "taxation without representation" is the basis behind these orgaizations, where people went to protest the Obama administration, who, in my opinion, is destroying the economy even farther. Obama came back and said that this fictional tax cut will reach 120 billion 'working' families - most of which dont even pay taxes at all. The definition of 'worker' must be loosely interpreted because Obama wants to tax them more, and raise up energy and oil prices to bring in more money. He also said that paying taxes is "patriotic." However, giving to charities may be patriotic, but taxes definatley are not. These are just a few of my thoughts, and obviously I agree with the tea parties and I would have gone if I could have.

Today I am going to write about the pirates in Somalia. Last week, the US ship captain Richard Phillips was captured by pirates from Somalia. Today he arrived safely in Kenya. Because the Somali pirates refuse to stop the hijacking, North Korean ships have joined other navies to fight the sea gangs. Off of Somalia's coast, dozens of ships have been taken, hundreds of sailors have been taken as prizoners and millions of dollars have been taken. On Sunday, a US navy ship killed the three pirates that were hold Phillips hostage. Phillips ship was taken under attack last week, and offered to be taken by the pirates for the safety of his 19 other crew members. I think that this involves the community because now american citizens are getting involved with the sea gangs. European ships are due to join the fight next month, so hopefully this problem does not come overseas to our part of the ocean. I think that it is very heroic of Phillips to risk his life for his crew.

In Mexico City, the latest happening is the drug war going on. Well, recently, there was a shoot out, and 15 assailants and one solider was found dead, hours before President Obama arrived to help show his support. After Obama's arrival he met up with the president of Mexico, Felipe Calderon. Who he himself has sent more than 45,000 troops to help patrol the drug war, as well as the United Sates soldiers. That's a little over the top.I do not think that this is right, our soldiers are being hurt by another country. It's nice in all that were trying to help out another country that's going through the drug war, but having our men killed and wounded isn't right. Yes, this is their job. But what I'm afraid for is, that they are going to do a draft, and now that my friends and family members are old enough, they could get drafted in. This connects to my life because it's a scary thought that we have our men helping out other countries, when they should be helping our own country out. I know that I'm young, and I probably don't have the right idea going with this, but still, I'm entitled to my own opinions.

People are actually for this, they say it's great that their seat won't have to be shared. This is actually big news because some will be completely against it saying that it's discrimnating. However, many of those interviewed were extremely happy about this. It may also encourage some to lose weight. I'm not quite sure I'm for or against but I believe that you should pay what you occupy.

In other words your stress level. I think this could possibly be a good point. I mean it says that Hawaii is the lowest and thats probably becasue of the weather and really its so relaxed over there. Also, if your state has a really bad economy it could make you more stressed. Whether about losing your job or just that your job isn't doing good and can't sell stuff. Last if your state is the leading pollution statte that could affect your mind so really there are many senarios but this could bring up a valid point.

Drug dealers are trying everything to get drugs into the United States any way they possibly can. all they want to do is make money, and they are going to do whatever they can to ensure that that happens. Even if it means selling drugs. Drugs aren't only brought in by people but also brought in underground through tunnels. Some 100 have been discovered since 1990 along the 1,950-mile U.S.-Mexico border. The most sophisticated tunnels have lights, air systems and hydraulics. CIA members that were involved with brutal encounters with suspects and prisoners were not charged by Obama. These were CIA officials back when the bush administration started. These members violated suspects by making them do things such as, waterboarding, and simulated drowning to keeping suspects naked and withholding solid food. This is wrong because Obama needs to treat them just like any other civilian. These people were suspects and were never proven guilty. This effects me because it pisses me off. I don't care who they are... They deserve jail time, just like any other person would get.

My current event is going to be that of how Bush approved the CIA to use insects as a method of interrogations. First of all this is very weird and be annoying more than useful, usnless you are scard of insects. The first step is to put the person in the small box with the insects, and tell him that it may sting him. But in reality the bug would be harmless, but not everyone would know that. The method was approved, but never used beacause fear of it breaking laws. But this sounds better than the sleep deprivation or the stress positions which are other meathods. All these meathods are not right, and this is another one to add to the list that the CIA was put on there list before. No doubt that it may only work for some people, the ones it would work for i guess it may work, but it still is not right.

In the wake of the rescue of the Maersk Alabama, it appears the U.S. is singled out for more attacks. In the Detroit Free Press for Thursday pirates vow to kill Americans. A pirate gang in Mombassa, Kenya staged an attack on a U.S. ship. The pirates fired grenades and automatic weapons at the cargo ship and its crew. Luckily the American crew successfully blockaded themselves in the engine room. The ship was damaged but escaped with none of the crew injured. The pirates that attacked the ship sent the message that, “We will seek out the Americans and if we capture them we will slaughter them.”
It seems like they want us to be sitting ducks and not defend ourselves. They don’t seem to understand that we are Americans and we aren’t going to take it. The attacks prove the dislike of the U.S. The attack hurts our society by people killing harmless ship workers for the ransom or the food that they are transporting. It also disturbs our trade in that area, which doesn’t help our problems at home with our economy.

My blog is on the warning that the U.S. gave to North Korea about their missle launch. As U.S. nuclear experts prepared to leave North Korea, the United States vowed consequences on Pyongyang for kicking them out, along with U.N. nuclear inspectors. This is after the United Nations condemned North Korea's recent missile launch. Four U.S. experts monitoring North Korea's Yongbyon nuclear plant were preparing to depart the country in the next several days after North Korea ordered them to leave, State Department acting spokesman Robert Wood said. A small team of experts has been rotating into the facility since November 2007. Wood said the U.S. has talked with Pyongyang about the expulsion and insisted the North Koreans would face consequences for "kicking these personnel out." "We'll have to see what those consequences are," he said. "We are going to continue to work with our partners, both on the Security Council and outside of the Security Council, to bring consequences upon the North for the actions that it's taken." He noted the United States proposed additional sanctions targeted at North Korea's nuclear program at a U.N. sanctions committee meeting on Wednesday.

There has been arguments that have delt with stem cell research and many think it shouldnt be practiced. The type 1 diabetes prooves that stem cell research has a future. This is a stepping stone that could led to bigger discoveries and better medicine. Dr. Richard Burt, associate professor of medicine at Northwestern universitys feinberg school of medicine, called the treatment "very encouraging". He claims that only time will tell if stem cell research is consistant and effective.

"Capping Us Will Get The Company Capped."

so, what the article gets at is pretty much that there are some companies, and Internet Service Providers (ISP's) that are essentially controlling how fast and how much you can download. now from a standpoint from the company, if you have a lot of your users downloading a lot, your hardware that controls all of that can burn out faster, causing you to get more repairs. but, from my NERDTASTIC standpoint, it not cool bro. not cools at all because it is just another way to control us. and for all we know, they could be monitoring our sites. which is an invasion of privacy, to an extent.

(my belief on these kind of privacy issues, is that i would not mid being monitored, but only for productive reasons, or if people are giving others calls, and doing illegal activities, then good for them that you prevented such actions from happening. but if your monitoring people, and sending you, or your employer, or your friends information about wherever you visit, that’s going far. and the IRS has been known to send out your information to your employers and your friends. my friends don't need to know every little thing i do, and they shouldn’t be sending every little piece of shit they find, just because they want to curve your habits of where you visit in your internet experience.)

anyways, limiting people, in my opinion, is never good. you just make them made, you lose customers, and then you go out of business.

so, i see no real problem as to why they need to be limiting what you download. its what you arwe paying for, and i think i should be able to download however much i want.

some users have even reported getting messages that they have been downloading to much. and i would do what they do, if i could make the choice, and switch ISP's. 'Cause if they Cap us, their business will get capped in the customers they can positively keep.

Here is a way to test if you are getting capped with your internet provider:

A hospital worker shot and killed two men thursday night. Only then later did he kill himself too. People panicked and left the seen police said. The gunman was mario ramirez, 50, of alhamzra. The reason for this is still under investigation and could take some time. I just don;t get why people do this. Why do you have to take the life of innocent people? Also, you take yoursself out of this world too. You just need to go get help and see somebody. It just doesnt make sense to me.

People are learning more creative ways to smuggle drugs into our country. They are bring drugs in, in toys tables and televisions. They have also made tunnels to help smuggle the drugs in. Hundreds and hundreds of tunnels have been found and there are still tons more. This is bad for our society because more drugs means more people doing drugs. Kids are going to start doing drugs at a younger age and now kids younger than highschoolers are going to come to classes baked out of their minds. Also people are going to be more broke because all they are going to do is buy a bunch of drugs. Drugs could really ruin the face of our society and it could be devistating for all the population.

Mr. Kay,
Today on the Freep website, I read about, well like always something about the economy. Well not exactly the economy, but it has to do with money problems. The article I read was about a hundred and fifty lay offs just in Southfield. It really makes you wonder how schools are holding up in different places in the country. Most of the people getting laid off are people in different programs than just full blown core-classes. They are mostly art, music, special ed, and things like that. So pretty much, when we lose these people we lose a creativity. Everyone will become boring like this. It really is sad that they have to take away something like this, especially in times like this when we need it most. We need a spark to excite us into doing something to cope with or save us from these tough times. These are the things we need most. In the article, it also talks about people getting denied enrollment. Now that's just ridiculous. I can see teachers getting laid off so then there is just stress on the teachers to do more, but when the kids don't even get a chance to learn, that is just taking it to far. Ted Peters had this to say. “Whenever you take away from them, the children, then you take away their ability to learn.” Right he is. Except for the fact that some don't even get the chance to learn. After a while, there will hardly be a reason to have a school. Either way, people say this is unnecessary, and if they keep it up, our worlds youth will be bland and boring. But that is only for the couple people that will get to learn. Well, the economy is terrible, schools are getting cut, were all getting more boring.

This week in Chandler Texas a six year old child tried to bring a gun to local school. The gun was found loaded, after the bus driver over heard the children talking about the weapon. The bus did not get to the campus and the authorities were called and they questioned the young student. This situations makes me wonder how easily the student got the weapon. It also makes me wonder what the student planned on doing with the gun. I think the parents of this child should be ashamed of themselves. For there irresponsible acts on not putting the gun somewhere safe there child could have caused serious damage to himself or the people around him.

At food.Yahoo.com(or http://food.yahoo.com/blog/yahoofreshpicks/7939/surprise-nutritionist-no-nos/ ), they say there are some 'healthy' foods to look out for. Apparently, they aren't as healthy as they're 'supposed to be'.

2% Milk
Has more calories than normal milk. You can switch toi skim milk, and have 14,000 less calories.
This has little effect on me, since I am partial lactose intolorent, which is gradually changing for the worst.

Whole-Grain Bagels
a whole grain/wheat bagle has over 360 more calories than a regular flour bagel. You're better off just eating a normal bagle with lox(whut dat?) or a whole-grain English muffin with lox(again, what?). Personally, a good, flour bagel with onion 'chips', sesame seeds, poppy seeds and bread cumbs(or whatever the crumbly stuff on the bottom is) with cream cheese is better than either of those. TOAST AND CREAM CHEESE is better.

Granola
Simple, isn't it? Rolled oats, nuts, and honey.
"Bear Naked's latest 'all natural' flavor contains 21 ingredients, including four types of sweeteners, chocolate, and peanut butter. It's also 140 calories per ¼ cup (that's a whopping 280 per serving!). Even low-fat granola packs a caloric punch."

FRUIT SMOOTHIES
Peanut Butter Moo'd from Jumba Juice has 840 calories. 160 MOR CALORIES THAN MEDIUM CHOCOLATE SHAKES AT BURGER KING! D:
"You can still enjoy smoothies, just order smart or make your own. "Jamba Light" options contain 150-160 calories per 16-ounce serving, and the same size "All Fruit" selections are 200-220 calories."

Eww. Seriously guys.

Mortgage rates dip to near record lows
http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-mortgage17-2009apr17,0,7937875.story
We've got some bright news today. The Rates on five-year, adjustable-rate mortgages are found to be reduced to 4.88% from 4.93%.
Mortgage rates fell dramatically over the winter. The mortgage dropped even further after Federal Reserve announced last month it would buy $1.2 trillion in mortgage-backed securities and $300 billion in long-term government debt, which traditionally influences rates on 30-year home loans.
The house price, as one of the most influential factor to the people's emotion, is very important in human life. The harder it is to get their own home, the more worries and concerns people get, since home is the base of family, rest, assets, and so forth. This news doesn't assure that this slight drop will be a permanent one, but it still suggests a bright hope with that it's a long-term derease.

Mr. Kay,
I know this is late but I wanted to do it even if I don't get the points for it. I completely forgot on Thursday and just realized I didn't do it.

My article i read on CNN.com is about President Obama trying to combat the demand of drugs in the United States. He increased funding for the drug program 250 percent in the spending bill signed in March. And if you slip up in drug court then you have to wear an ankle-monitoring bracelets or put into juvenile detention. And if they make it all the way through it says "If they don't give up, then when it comes time for graduation and you see the shine on their face, when you know that they have accomplished something. And I think that is good so they know they accomplished something for themselves. I think that this is a good idea so that it can help get the people who do drugs to stop. And if they stop and get clean then the United States will be better. The odds are that this wont make a huge difference with drug problems but it might be able to help a some people clean up their lives.
