"You drank a charm to kill Goody Proctor." Abigail was desperate at this point. She wanted Goody Proctor dead so she could have John Proctor all to herself. Betty called this out to the world it seemed. Betty screamed out that Abigail did not tell Parris that she drank blood as a charm to kill Proctor's wife. Abigail obviously did not want other people to know about this and she quickly shut Betty up. Abigail did this in the woods and did not want others to hear. Abigail wanted to continue her affair with Proctor and she could not do this because Goody Proctor was still alive. This act and quote is important to the play because Abigail will later go to Proctor and dicuss their relationship. She wants to get rid of Goody Proctor so she doesn't have to keep her love for him a secret. I think that Goody Proctor will end up leaving John Proctor because she hears about what has been going on. People in Salem at that time were very suspicious about witchcraft and charms and such, which makes Abigail and many others issues to the world and will later be punished.

"you drank a charm to kill Goody Proctor." Abigail wanted Goody proctor to be dead so she could have John proctor to herself. betty told them this and abigail was saying she didnt. But she did drink chicken blood for a charm on goody proctor. If Goody Proctor is alive then she cant continue seeing John Proctor. This is important to the story because you prety much find out that she has a thing for John Proctor. Later in the story she goes and talks to him about it and he prety much just says he doesnt love her and to forget anything ever happened.

"If there is I must find it and join"
This quote was stated by John Proctor after Parris told him about a group of people that are against him and a part of witchcraft. Proctor thought that Parris took his advantage of his position as a reverend. Unlike pastors in the past, Parris demanded that he is provided with a home and a larger salary than the ones before him. He thinks he is better than the recent pastors because of the college he went to. I know that Proctor was being sarcastic when he told Parris this. However, Parris took it as Proctor being a part of witchcraft. Proctor did not believe that this group Parris spoke of exsisted. This shows how people in the town of Salem were so quick to jump into conclusions.
The quote that I chose is "Why, then, I must find it and join it." Proctor said that when Putnam said against him and all authority. He said that because Proctor was agruing with rev.Parris rather they can live in houses or ask for ownership. When Proctor said that, it shocked everybody. One person, Rebecca, said he does not mean it because she was in shock I guess. Then Proctor told her I don't like the smell of this authority. What I think the quote means is that you can't handle authority any more and you have to walk away.

"There is a prodigious danger in the seeking of loose spirits." At this point Rebecca was fearful of where there actions would take them. Fearful of the outcome their decisions about who's the witch in the village casting spells on their children. And fearful of seeking for witches thinking that it will destroy the peace that they wished to have. "You think it God's work that you should never lose a grandchild and I bury all but one?" Now Mrs. Putnam seemed furious at this point. Her fight with Rebecca seemed to be increasing and she kept arguing with her. Although she had probable cause: she had lost all of her children, all of them but one. Yet her only child left is now under some kind of "spell".

"There is prodigous damger in that of seeking loose spirits". This was said by Rebecca, who doesnt want to act on witchcraft. This just does not make sense to me at all. The people of salem are so obsessed with witchcraft but when they get a chance to act their afraid. Their fearful of reaching bettys spirits and what it might bring. I think this is gonna come back up later in the play. Its important because we realize how some really feel about witchraft. Some are fearful and some are bravee.

"You drank a charm to kill Goody Proctor." Abigail drank this potion to kill Goody Proctor. Abigail wants Goody Proctor out of the way because she wants Goody Proctors Husband John Proctor. From previous scenes we know that they have once before have been in an affair. John denies Abigail so she gets mad and wants to take his wife out of the picture. This is somewhat happening these days. Not the whole drinking a potion part but people do go to the extremes for their feelings. We have people these days that do cheat but it is not as big of a deal as it was back in their time. Later this entanglement with the potion will lead to her being accused as a witch.

You think that is gods work that you should never lose a child and i bury all but one. I think it would mean that she resentful and angry at god. if it is gods work to never lose a child and she has lost all but one. that would mean that god is angry and mean. She needs to understand that it is not gods work to lose a child. When someone tells her that then what they are saying is god wanted this to happen and she not in good favor of god.

"Why, then, i must find it and join it" this was said by john proctor to parris. Others were shocked when he said this. Proctor thought that parris was abusing his powers as the towns pastor. he did so by demanding a bigger salary, he thinks he is better then everyone, parris would say "Mr.Proctor, i am not some preaching farmer with a book under my arm; i am a graduate of harvard college" page 180.he felt that he had more power then everyone else in the town. parris took this statement to much to the extreme, and thought that proctor was apart of the witchcraft. parris takes everything so seriously and didnt think through what john proctor had said, so he ended up judging what he said, thought he belonged to witchcraft
"There is a prodigious danger in the seeking of loose spirits."
this quote is said by Rebecca, the only one who doesn't jump right to the conclusion of withcraft. when they accuse Betty of having the devil in her when she screams when they say the lord's name Rebecca has doubt. she belives there could be a different reason and to wait and look at the facts. by the quote she is trying to say that by trying to find "this witch" they are going end up with a problem. she means that nothing good will come out of this. from what we've seen so far this society isn't very Puritan. i wouldn't be surprised if this causes corruption in the village.
"You drank a charm to kill Goody Proctor".
Sometimes to get out of something many people will lie and blame others for there mistack. This qoute is a qoute that Betty said to Abigal. She was calling out Abigal and was blaming her for what she has done. This is kind of important because word of this ever came out than everyone would asume that Abigal is a witch for sure. Also if people get word that Abigal was messing around with john proctor than people would look down at her and treat her badly. So Abigal is going to get in trouble if she doesn't lie to everyone. Abigal will have to lie to save her self.

"Why, then, I must find it and join it." This quote was said by John Proctor. It was after Parris said there was a group of people that were against John Proctor, and doing witchcraft. Parris was basically taking advantage of people and as his job as a pastor. He thought he was somewhat better than John Proctor, like making more money and is more intelligent. Although, John Proctor doesnt belive this certain group, Parris belives he is apart of it because Proctor sarcastically said this statement, making it seem that he was apart of witchcraft. This quote shows how people are gulible and quickly jump to conclusions.
"You drank a charm to kill Goody Proctor." I think that this means that Abigal wants Proctors wife dead. I think that she wants John to herself. Abigail knows that John wound't get a divorce. So I think that the only way she can have John is by Goody Proctor dying. I don't think that it was the way to go. I think that she should leave John alone. It is not right nor never will be ok to fool around with another woman husband. She should just forget John. She needs to ingnore him. Which should be easy because she hardley ever comes into town.
Quote- "There is a prodigious danger in seeking out of loose spirits." This quote is saying that there is a huge amount of danger in doing witch like activities. This quote is important to the story becuase if someone was cought doing witch like activities they would be killed. There would be no reasoning with them. They would find them and kill them for being differnet. Rebecca is saying this to the Putnams. I think rebecca doesn't want Hale to come to town cuz he might find witch craft and huert people rebecca likes. The putnams want Hale to come becuase they are mad for only having one child.

"But I will cut off my hand before I ever reach for you again." Well Mr. Kay I think that John is trying to say is that he will not fool around with Abby again. I don't know if I can believe him. It seems so hard for him. I think that he will try. But I think that he will go back to Abby. He will be at her window again. I want to beleive that he wants to stay true to his wife. But times were different then. Maybe it was not looked down when someone cheated.
"You drank a charm to kill Goody Proctor." This was said by Betty about Abigail and after she said it Abigail got very angry and hit Betty. She also told everyone that if anyone ever spoke of it again that she would kill them. Abigail wanted Goody Proctor dead so that she could get to her Husband John Proctor. We read previously in the story that Abigail and John had an affair. John doesn't want to keep fooling around but Abigail won't accept the fact that he doesn't want her anymore. Abigail drank this "charm" in hopes it would kill Goody and would leave John all to her. I think this was very selfish on Abigails part to try to kill Goody just because she had feelings for her husband. You see this occuring in today's world kind of a lot. People don't do stuff like drinking a potion to kill someone but people do do some crazy things to express their feelings for someone.
"There is prodigious danger in that of seeking loose spirits." This quote was spoken by Rebbecca. I believe she said this because she had no desire to create a problem that may not even be realistic. from her earlier opinion of this situation just being a phase of teenagers makes the readers believe she did not have much faith in witchcraft causing this. Still being in that time era i do believe she still believed strongly in the sins of witchcraft and the devil. I believe that she didn't want to temper with dangerous things such as the work of the devil. I think she wanted stronger proof in the problem then rather jumping to conclusions and creating a problem. The irony in this quote is she was probably right. if the town would just let the the problem run its course without yelling witch maybe the Salem with trials wouldn't have been.

you drank a charm to kill goody proctor. at this point in the story Abigail is desperate. Abigail wanted goody out of the picture so she could have john to her self. Abigail was married to goody proctor but was having an affair with john proctor. but the only way she could have him was to kill goody. in the time that this story were very suspicious about witchcraft. a lot of people that were tried as a witch were really just human.
"There is a prodigious danger in the seeking of loose spirits." (pg. 180) this quote was said by rebecca. she is the wife of fracis nurse. also she was the mid-wife of Mrs. Putnam. After Mrs. Putnam lost all those children she put much of the blame on rebecca, and later accusing her of witchcraft. its almost as though the people of salem are useing this witccraft hoax to tryr to pick on and single out all the people they have grudges against. no one of salem has real proof to expect anyone of witchcraft, its just someone to point the finger at and blame them. that has been exibited already throughout the story with abigail first trying to cover over all her mistakes. i think shes bound to get cuaght.

"You drank a charm to kill Goody Proctor." Abigail drank the charm to kill Goody Proctor because of her love for her husband John Proctor. They've had an affair going for a while, but recently he cut it off. this reason being that he did not share the same love for her, as she has for him. Another reason being quite selfish, he didn't want to receive a bad reputation with his church as well as the community. Personally, I believe that Goody Proctor will find out and leave John Proctor in a heart beat. For cheating on her, that's the one thing that is never acceptable. Meanwhile, Betty knew about Abigail's ever scheme and was going to share the secret with everyone. So Abigail had to do something to keep Betty quite, otherwise her plot would be ruined. Also, she will be sentenced for an attempted murder. I believe that this quote is important because everyone back then were very cautious about witchary, always keeping their eyes open.

"Why, then, i must find it and join it." First of all this was said by John proctor to Putnan, Parris and Rebecca is also present. Proctor wants to join a group of people that are against Parris in the church he attends. Also, this group is against all authority which i think is his main reason of joining the group. Another thing is Rebecca is trying to tell the others that he is just lying because i am pretty sure that it's not good to be in a group like this one. Now giles is invovled and he thinks little of john proctor and says, "can't believe he has so much iron in him." This means nothing good for Proctor because it is saying he isn't good in a way. Last is immediattly after giles says that parris is saying thank you because he thinks the exact same thing as giles.
Ty Bouwens, 6th hour
If there is i must find it and join, are the words of John Proctor. John Proctor and Parris are in a fight over witchcraft, and the peoples views on each of them. Proctor is talking about joining a group against Parris and his church. Proctor is trying to show superiority to Parris and be better than him. However, Parris is complaining about his pay. He says that he is more qualified than any other reverends. He thinks he is better becasue he went to harvard. But, Parris took the comment of Proctor finding this group to the subject of withcraft. He now thinks that Proctor is a witch. In reflection i ask, is Parris jumping to this to get the attention of off his witc infected family and onto Proctors family.
Mr. Kay,
"You think that is God's work that you should never lose a child and I bury all but one?" This quote is told by Mrs. Putnam. I think exactly what she means is that God isn't always fair because she has lost all of her children except her ill child.I am not completely sure if this shows that she is atheist, but she is one of the people who gets mad at God all the time. This quote is pretty timeless because I don't think everyone has always thought God has treated them fairly in all times in their life. But, like in the quote before this, we probably shouldn't always look to God for all of our problems. So these opinions and quotes are both conflicting upon each other and maybe it shows how Rebecca and Mr. Putnam are opposites. But regardless, this quote shows how some people in the society are really religious and others aren't so much.

Think of losing your best freinds or family members, well that nothing compared to what Mrs. Putnman went thought."You think that it is God's work you should never lose a child and i bury all but one?". This quote is said by Mrs.putnam and is directed to Rebecca and Procotor. The quote is when Mrs.Putnam startes to to jump to conclution and says that witches are the reason her babys died. In the situtition they are talking about the girls current situtation and how it must my witchcraft. It is important beacause it shows Mrs.Putnam view on the situtation and how she feels. She jump and makes things up to explain what happened to her babys and find the explaition for her self. I feel bad for Mrs.Putnam even if she is doing something wrong, you shouldnt have bury our childern like she said.

Mr. Kay,
The quote that I have choosen is "You think that is God's work that you should never lose a child and I bury all but one?". Mrs. Putnam is very upset right now because Rebecca is going off saying that it's not her fault that her children are growing and healthy. Rebecca tries to purswade Mrs. Putnam that it must be God's work. Killing all Mrs. Putnam's children and none of hers. Rebecca is trying to get the spotlight off of her and blame it on God. She is a very self centered woman who thinks that she is God's favorite. Knowing how upset Mrs. Putnam would get if she tried to tell her that it's not her fault that her life is perfect and Mrs. Putnam's isn't. But she decided to do it anyway.

"If there is I must find it and join" Proctor said this within an argument with parris. Parris was convinced that he should get a larger salary and a house. AS thew story goes on, people get more defensive ever since this witch non sence. I believe twas Proctor and PUtnam got in an argument over wood. Putnam believed Proctor was stealing his wood. Now groups begin to form for and against witch craft and soon their will be trials and arrests. People will be turning on eachother and use witch craft to benefit wealth.

"There is a prodigious danger in the seeking out of loose spirits."
This was a quote made by Rebecca. Rebecca didn't want the people of Salem to make a harsh judgement (Betty being a witch) when that might not be the case. Betty wanted them to take in all considerations before making this judgement. Being accused of being a witch was a serious thing and the punishment would be big. I believe Rebecca thought it might be withcraft activity and bringing out the loose spirits could be bad, especially if they were not absolutey correct. Betty suggested in bringing in a doctor and prayer (these would be the sensible thing to do). Bringing in bad spirits could conjure up spiritis that they might regret.
"You drank a charm to kill Goody Proctor!"-Betty Parris
Betty was afraid of Abigale's irrational actions that promoted her sins with John Proctor. Abigale's power over the other girls helped keep her deed secret, and the charm quiet.
"I will cut off my head before I ever reach for you again."-John Proctor
John was ashamed of what he had done, and was trying to atone for it. His late nights slinking through Abby's window were over. And after Abigale and her cousin were accused of witchcraft, he grew suspicious of Abby's actions in the courtroom.
So far, this play is great. And I found my book, but in the process I made a mess of my room.

"There is prodigious danger in that of seeking loose spirits."
This quote is said by Rebbecca, she is the only one who doesn't automatically jump to witchcraft as the issue with Betty. She is surrounded by people who are jumping to the idea of witchcraft like,Parris, Proctor and Putnam. She tells everyone that it could be dangerous to look for witchcraft. That could make things worse and have people believe things that aren't true. She believes that there could be another answer to Betty's behavior. Like you said in class before break, Rebecca could be the smartest person in this play because of what she says here. I also think that she is very smart for thinking this and not just jumping to ridiculous conclusions like witchcraft.

"You think that is God's work that you shoulc never lose a child and I bury all but one". Mrs. Putnam says this to Rebecca because she feels extremly misunderstood. She believes Rebecca cannot understand where the Putnam's are comeing from since she lost no one. Yet the Putnam's have lost all their children but one. Their last child is acting not right so they are desprate to save their only child. Rebecca is thinking that they should not bring in Reverand Hale so their town does not end up fighting. However, since the Putnams are desprate, they want to do anything that may save their daughter. Although Rebecca is very wise, I understand the Putnams and they wouldn't be very good parents if they don't try every option. Also, Rebecca is looking out for the town as a whole, so the Putnams and Rebecca were defiant to have very different views. I'm curious though, if it was Rebecca's child if she would have a different view since it would be happening to her loved one.

"You drank a charm to kill Goody Proctor." Abigail drank this potion to kill Goody Proctor. Abigail wants Goody Proctor out of the way because she wants Goody Proctors Husband John Proctor.Betty screamed out that Abigail did not tell Parris that she drank blood as a charm to kill Proctor's wife. Abigail obviously did not want other people to know about this and she quickly shut Betty up. this all had happened in the wood when the were partying. she did this to keep there love going. this act was important because is infers the death of someone. also how it will effect the way people see abby to be a witch or a normal person.
MR. Kay,
The quote that I chose was "Yuo drank a charm to kill Goody Proctor". She is saying this to Abigail. Because Abigail and Proctor had a secret relationshuip, they wanted to be together. So in killing Goody, Abigail hoped to steal Proctors love, which didnt happen. Now ever since she did this, Betty hasnt said anything. but now Betty is finally speaking the truth about what she knows. Now that Betty is speaking out, Abigail wants to kill Betty, when Abigail is the one with her life at risk because she will be tried for unfaithfulness.
Megan Fraser
"You drank a charm to kill Goody Proctor."
Betty said this about Abigail to everyone in the room at the time. Abigail wasn't too happy about it either. No one was suppossed to know about it, thats why the girls were in the woods. It is also a sinful thing for the daughter of a reverend to be doing. The reason Abigail was trying to kill goody Proctor is because she was in love with Proctor and wanted him for herself. She knows that he won't leave his wife for her so if there is no wife, then there's not a problem. This won't make Abigail look to good. People are already suspicious but now its even worse because of the witchcraft.
"If there is I must find it and join"
I didnt really understand this quote but ill write about it anyways. This quote was said by John Proctor. He said it after Parris told him about a group of people that are against him and are in witchcraft. I think Parris was taking advantage of people and as his job as a pastor. Proctor wants to join a group of people that are against Parris in the church he attends. He wants to join people that basically hate him. Proctor thinks that parris was over using his powers as the towns pastor. He showed by demanding a bigger salary, a house of his own just because of his eduaction.

I think that the quote from John Proctor, “But I will cut off my hand before I reach for you again.” Shows the John is sad that he and Abby are not together, he can no longer have the relation ship with her. He told her to forget about him like they had never touched. If anyone finds out about their relationship one of them will be accused of being a witch. I think that Abby would be accused of being a witch more likely than John because all Goody Proctor would have to say is that Abby is bewitching him. Another reason is that one of Abby’s friends might tell her secret. I think that it would be hard to keep that secrete that Abby drank a charm to kill Goody
"You drank a charm to kill Goody Proctor." This was said by Abigail, she was desperate. She wanted Goody Proctor dead. So she could have John Proctor. Betty screamed out that Abigail did not tell Parris that she drank blood as a charm to kill Proctor's wife. Abigail did this in the woods and did not want others to hear. Abigail wanted to continue her affair with Proctor and she obviously couldnt do this because Goody Proctor was still alive. This quote is important becuase she doesnt want to keep her love a seceret with John Proctor anymore. I think that Goody Proctor will evuantly leave John Proctor because she hears about whats been going on.
The first quote is about drinking a charm kill goody proctor. Betty said this to abigail. Abigail had told bettys father about how betty had practiced watch craft. Betty shot up when abigail told her, and said that abby drank a charm to kill goody. She said this because she had an affair with john proctor. Abby would love to get rid of goody so she can have john all to herself. Therefore, she tried to drink blood so the devil would kill goody.

"You think that its gods work that you should never lose a child and i bury all but one." This was said by Mrs. Putnam, as she was bringing up the fact of how many children she has lost. She believs that people say God is kind and wouldn't take an innocent baby. She thinks this isn't true considering all but one of her babies died very young. I think she is just angry about her losses and wants people to recognize it. She wants to ger her point across that she thinks its unfair her children died while many other babies survive.

This was said by John Proctor after Parris told John about the group of people that were against John and part of his witchcraft. "You drank a charm to kill Goody Proctor." Abigail drank this potion to kill Goody Proctor. Abigail knew she could have John Proctor to herself if she killed Goody. They had an afair before and she wants it to continue. John has no more feeling to this because of her age. Abigail tried doing these little spells secret. She knew if people had known she is trying to kill Goody there would be problems. Abagail would be tried as a witch.

"You drank a charm to kill Goody Proctor." Abigail wanted to continue her affair with John Proctor. The only way that she could continue to see him was by getting rid of his wife Goody Proctor. Because it would be a sin for Abigail to take Proctor away when he was married, but if his wife had passed and after some time and grieving he could marry again. So Abigail was simply doing this for her benefit. However Goody Proctor is very suspicious of Abigail. Abigail had been fired from the Proctor house hold a few months before, I assume it was because of an affair. However Abigail did not want to give up and just let Go of John Proctor. So in the end she just wanted his wife to be gone, and drinking chicken blood and trying to cast spells seemed like a way to do it.
you drank a charm to kill goody proctor. Abigail wanted Jon Proctors wife dead so she could have jon to herself. Abigail pretty much forced Tituba to make the charm. Tituba was later accused of forcing Abihail to drink the charm. Abigail was trying to clean her slate so it didn't look like she was the one trying to kill goody proctor. Abigail usebto have a thing with Jon Proctor and she wasnt over it. She was trying to do everything she could to move into goody proctors spot. Abigail should have beenthe one getting in trouble for witchcraft but she put the blame on almost everyone else because she's a bad person. It didn't seem like people back then had affairs but they did just I think it was looked at as a major sin.

"There is a prodigious danger in the seeking out of loose spirits." (Page 180) Rebecca says this to the others in the room who are jumping to the conclusion of witchcraft being the reason of all their problems. She does not believe that the devil is the cause of everything that is going on. From this scene, readers learn that Rebecca is more mature than most of the others in the story. She has a very realistic outlook on life and the problems that come with it. Rather than just assuming that the devil is the cause of problems in the town, she views it for what it truly is - some teenagers fooling around and disobeying the rules. The others, though, disagree with her and find all the reasons they can to tell her that there is witchcraft in Salem. Rebecca is never quite swayed by them, because she trusts her own instincts more than allowing others to persuade her. Ultimately this quote shows the realistic and mature outlook Rebecca has on life. She sees that seeking witches will just cause more problems, not solve their problems.

i know its super freaking late, but here is why mr. kay.
so, the tuesday i went to go on and blog, right after that, i got locked out by blogger, and all it showed when i went to the site was: "your I.P. has been banned" so, no use trying to get on here, cause even if i made a new account, i still coudnt get to the site to make a new account. figuring, well, its a new year, id try before i had to explain this at school, and sure enough, it works now. i dont know why, or how, but all i gotta say is the internet is weird, and it has its failures.
now for my blog:
we learned that john and abigal had more than just a friendly relationship. now, im pretty sure it didnt say they were getting intimate, but it sure did allude to that. i think that might be where everyones getting mixed up on that fact right there, or maybe im wrong, i dont know.
as we learned later, it did affect her relationship with them because now, she could blame any one of them for her wrongdoing.
now, about people reacting to abigals acusing nature, well, she wouldnt get away with that for one minute now-a-days, but with her affair with john proctor, people i would still believe shun upon it, but, we would get on with our lives, as usual. or if it was that bad of an affair, the most she would be asked to do was move away. i believe thats what would happen in todays world.

"If there is I must find it and join it"
This quote was said by John Proctor who was arguing with Parris about the issue of witch craft. Proctor wanted to join a group who was against Parris and his church. Proctors group is also against authority. Parris thinks because he is an authority figure that he deserves higher pay. Many look down upon John Proctor because he is opposing authority. Now is when you really get to see the true character of people because most people are turning on each other. People are going to snitch on others to keep themselves out of trouble and then the serious stuff will begin.

"If there is I must find it and join"
This is said by John Proctor after they are talking about why they think Parris is an ineffective minister. He thinks, along with many other people in Salem, that Reverend Parris is not doing his job right. Yet, Parris still insists on a bigger salary and the deed to his house. At this point Parris is only looking out for himself. He is taking advantage of his momentary status and thinks he is the best because he went to a good college. Parris is also considering that Proctor may be guilty of witchcraft. It is taking a toll on everyone in Salem.

"You drank a charm to kill Goody Proctor."
Abigail was willing to do absolutely ANYTHING to get goody proctor dead. She wanted to be with John so bad. She was really desperate. In sort of a freak-ish manner. And not the good sort of freak either.
"Why, then, i must find it and join it." John said this to Putnan about Parris. John doesn't like Parris so when the thing mentioned about an anti-parris type group John said this quote. He was sort of being a snoot. lol.
