Semester 2, Week 1, Day 1

Welcome to a new semester. I am hoping that you will strive to do your best this semester and if you feel you did your best last semester, you will push yourself to a new level of learning and understanding.

So, I gave my speech about pride. With that in mind, give me your goals for this semester both in school in general and in my class. Tell me how you are going to take my words about pride and put them into action. Then, tell what grade you would like to work towards during this first cardmarking. Be realistic with all of these but most importantly, be honest.

I have two main goals that I have for this Literature class. The first is to work on the grammar for the class. I didn't do well on the grammar portion of the final because I hardly knew what any of them were. Also, I need to work on taking more time studying and studying well. This also is a goal for all my other classes as well. I usually study the hour before for each of my tests and quizzes and I would do much better if I studied the days before. Another goal I have for school in general is to keep focused. During the end of the school year I have trouble paying attention and getting my work done. I have done well this school year so far and I want to keep it that way for the rest of the year. The grade I want to work for this card marking is an A. I think this is realistic if I stay focused and study for all my tests and quizzes.

Well Mr. Kay my goals for this semester is to actually care about my grades. In your class I will strive to do much better on my papers. To succeed I must ask for help, even if I feel it is a stupid question. I need to get your class grade up. I was very disappointed with the grade I received. I would like to get a minimum of a B+. I think I could do it.

Last semester I did pretty much nothing in your class. I failed all my tests and quizzes. My goals for your class would have to be to turn in all my assigments. Also another goal is to get an A on every vocab quiz. I know that means that I will have to study. I know I can't rely on Connor and Ty anymore. I also want to work on my writing skills. I am not good at writing. I would like to improve thoses skills. I also would like to try for an A. I know that it might be impossible. But I think that I might be able to make the imposible possible. I really took your speech to heart. I know that I have to ask questions. Really listen to what you say in class. I also have to do good on the vocab quizzes. That might mean that I have to come to your class room during lunch or seminar.

Mr. Kay,

My goals for this semester are going to be based on studying and doing my work. For your class, my goals are 1.) to do all assignments on time 2.) to get A's on the vocab tests. And 3.) to prove to you that I can get at least a B in your class. For the pride speech you gave us today, the way I will be putting your words into action is by giving all my work my very best effort. And also not giving up on anything. I think that pride is defined by most people as doing your very best and even if it doesn't turn out to be what you wanted, at least you gave it your best, that's when pride really shows. For this first cardmarking I would like to at least recieve a B in your class. Im hoping that by keeping up with my goals I can even maybe get a B+ or an A.

Mr. Kay,
Generally, I won't be making many changes in my daily effort and such in school and in your class. I might try a bit harder to actually understand what we are doing instead of just doing the work and assignments. I also need to study more ofter. TO a certain extent, I understand what's happening in class, but I don't think about it enough to comprehend what is on the test. To put the words you said in action, I will be a bit more segregated when doing my work. I will not base my work around anothers nor will I base anothers work off of mine. What I am trying to say is I will be doing my work by myself, for myself. I hope to get an A in your class, but I will settle with an A-. At least then I know I tried and didn't just blow off my plans to succeed in the class. It would tell me I was doing something right. But, I can't base my belief off of that one grade. I want to get the grade, and actually understand everything in the class. Honestly, right now, I want to walk away from your class with more then just a grade. I want to leave with the knowledge that you are trying to put in our minds. So as you can see I will be making some major changes, but overall in the way I work, I won't be changing to much.

For this semester I plan on doing better in your class. I would like to get a B+. In your class I seem to do worse than in my other classes. I will try harder and do the right things to get a higher grade in your class. In school I would like to get above a 3.7. I think that I can do this. Im going to sftudy and do all my homework. Im going to give alot of effort into reaching my goal. I wll need to have alot of pride in this to raech my goal. I will have to tell myself that Im doing this so I can be better about myself. I think if I do reach this goal than I will have even more pride in myself.

Some of my goals for this semester is to ask more questions. Study for test and quizes.Especially on vocabulary quizes because I am tired of failing them. I think one of my goals for your class is on improving writing essays because I didn't do so well on the last one. The grade that I want to earn is at least a B or C. I think I can get these grades by working at my goals. Also, by not missing school.

I'm going to take your words and take pride in what I do and do a better job. Lately I have been slacking and its been hurting my grade. I really wanna work on getting all B's but I have a tendency to slack off as the semester goes on. I really want to get my math and language arts grade up the most. I think I could do a good job if I just study more and get my home work done before I go and do anything. I also think I just need to pay attention better also. I think if I take pride in my work it will make me more determined to prove that I can do better not only to myself but everyone else I hang out with.

What are my goals for this semester? My goals for this semester will be to make myself work and try harder. Each day i will get my agenda signed by all my teachers to make sure i have to correct assignment to do for that day. For now on i will make sure to take alot of pride in my work. The way i will do this is reread, check for mistakes, and have someone else do the same for me. The grade i am really going to work for in this first card marking is atleast somewhere in the B range. I think if i buckel down and take more time to make sure its done right, instead of just geting it done i will succeed in my goals.

for this semester im definatly looking to improve on my grades. its always good to have a fresh start with new classes n everything. also in your second semester you know what to expect and you know what you have to do to earn a passing grade. in this lit class specifically, my goals are to improve my grade, do better on tests, and when we read a book or a play try to comprehend it better. the speech about pride today defiantly go me thinking. although i do have pride in my work there's always room for improvement. for this cardmarking i would like my grade to be a B's to the A's. i believe this is a reachable goal for me and i know what to do to get it.

The first goal I need to work for is studying. I cant seem to get good grades on tests/quizes. I study but I dont think I take the time of day to make it worth wile. This shows just how I dont take pride in work. If I find a better way to make studying fun for me i'm sure I can get a better grade. Speaking of grades...I need to focus better on turning in all my assignments. Doing this will help me get better grades and do better on tests/quizes. In the class I hope to average a B or better. This is what I need to do to accomplish my goals.

I do horrible on tests so I'm going to try to get better at them. This means studing the night before instead of the class before. With the whole pride thing in mind I'm going to make sure I do my best on my work instead of just trying to get it done. I will ask myself if this is my best work, and if it isn't I will work on it somemore.

Since I felt that I pushed myself a little bit last semester and still didn't get the grade I wanted, I will have to push myself even harder. I would like to achieve a B+ or higher in your class as well as all of my other classes. I got close last sememster but not close enough. One thing I need to work on still is my studying habits. I did well last cardmarking because I pushed myself to study. Another thing I need to work on is understanding. When we were reading The Crucible I didn't understand some things and I never tried to. I would like to work on asking questions and speaking out when I don't understand something. Pride is very important to many people including me. I have cheated on things before and gotten A's and it doesn't give me the same feeling as when I earn things myself and achieve goals myself. I am going to study harder and try harder at things when I get frustrated.

With the grade and effort I had in your class last semester I need to pick it up a little. My goal for your class this semester is to just do better than I did last semster. By doing that I need to do better on the things like vocab and howework. I need to put in some time for studying for quizzes and tests and actually do all my homework. I slacked a lot last semester and this semester is going to change a whole lot. My goal for a grade in this class is at least a B- because I know I am capuable of doing that. For the rest of my classes I need to pick it up a bit too. My goal for my final semester is to get a 3.0 or above so my parents will buy me a car.

My new goals for this semester would have to include, trying harder in Geometry and improving my writing skills. As seen from my previous writing grades in need great improvement. I am going to take your words from today and use them in increasing my effort in class. If I just kind of slide by I manage A's and B's but I think if I actually try harder than normal they can all be A's. For this first cardmarking I will aim for a B+ to an A in Lit. In Geometry I aim for a B or higher.
Mostly what I have gotten out of today is that your reward equals your effort and that if you put in a great deal of effort then you will be highly rewarded.

I have many goals for myself that I expect to accomplish for the semester. My first goal is to become better at grammar. I really struggle with this topic in class and I want to be a better person with grammar. Another goal I have is to maintain good habits. I am still focusing on not missing one blog the entire semester. I would also like to become a better writer and not have to have other people read my paper and make corrections on obvious mistakes. The papers I write should be all of my ideas instead of someone telling me what to do and fix. It should be for the most part, already correct. Finally, I want to maintain an A average in the class. However, I want it to be an honest A just like we talked about in class today. The A should come from hard work that I performed.

The goals i want to work on this semester is writing papers, i need to work harder on those, andd edit them way better and go thru them better. I think i am doingg great with my vocab, i study for that, soo, i dont need to improve in that category. When we do the reading, or in general for like when we did the crucible i need to re-read more. It will help me understand everything a little better. I feel like that i can do a smidge better, i dont think i deserve a higher grade iin your class mr. kay.. but i would feel good if i got a b- or even a B...if i dont let other things put me down i might do a little better, this will make me happier, and save me getting in trouble for my bad grades.

My main goal for this semester would just be to do better all together. Im positive I could receieve a better grade if i was to put more effort in to my work. I would like to recieve an A in your class I feel like that is a resonable grade for me. I think I can acheieve this goal by paying more attention in class and not slacking off as much. In general I would like to be a better student and also put forth more effort in other classes. Im feeling quite excited about my goals for this semester. I think with hard work and a good attitude they should be pretty easy.

Personnaly i know that i am a smart and intelligent person but choose not to use it all correctly. After your sppech on pride i realized that being smart and intellegent and being gifted with this i shall have some pride in my work done. This semester i plan on putting all mistakes done in the pasts behind me and prove to both my mom and dad that i am not giving up on them this time and showing thankfulness of all there care for me in school. I plan on not missing a single assignment and if so completing it that day or night. I will also put in my studying hours this way i will go through the tests and quizes confidently knowing that i have done my best and thats all that matters. In your class mr. kay, i plan on recieving B's through out the next semester. iknow that if i work my hardest this can and will come true. To recieve this grade i will need to put in my hours of studying for vobab and other quizs, complete all blogs with 7 sentences and good detail writing. And last but not least reading between the lines in every story, book, section and absorbing all information.

My goals are to achieve a way higher grade than what I had last semester. I'm not sure you actually touched on the subjecto f pride today. More over, there was talk about the rules to the class and what we hope to complete this cardmarking.

I would like to maintain a grade around the C-B range in this class, even if it's a small challenge. I want to pass finally, and want to learn at my pace without help. I want to feel like I accomplished something. Me; alone, reaching that goal. That's what I would like this cardmarking.

All I need is the nudge to do something right, and I'll strive for it. I want to pass this class.

And I Will.

Mr. Kay,

The first semester I was really lazy. I know that I have openly admitted it since the 2nd day of school, but Im going to change this. I am going to actually study consistently for the vocab tests. Whenever I did study for the vocab i did good. But all the other times i didnt study i did bad so it makes sense to study then. Anyway, I want to get at least a B+ in your class. I feel that I can do better than that, but that is where I would like to start.

Well I have really one main goal in general for school. That is to get all A's and B's. This also will include on my final in 18 or so weeks. For your Lit. class i have a few goals. First one is to not miss one blog. Even though i only missed, 1 or 2, I can still do better. Another goal of mine is to be prepared for all homework turn ins and test. I say this because a couple of times i wasn't really ready for a vocab test and didn't do so hot on it. I unfortunately did the exact same thing for a homework and had to rush threw it, but i am honest and didn't copy. My last goal is to somehow improve on grammer because i only know a few things about grammer and i need to learn more. My last goal is to learn how to write better. I can do this by learning more vocab and a lot more grammer things. but the main thing i need to do with writing is learn how to make sentences flow. The grade i want to achieve is at least a B. However, i think I can go to the next level and make that an A as long as i try hard and do all the work.

I have some goals for this year in all classes but especially Literature. The goal i want to achieve the most is actually learning things instead of subconsciously doing my work. This goes back to what Mr. Kay said about having pride in your work. I want to take pride in knowing what we talk about, even though I am pretty good at learning things quickly. I also want to try to study for tests a few days before I take them instead of the hour before. These goals apply to all of my classes. Overall, in Lit (and all other classes) I want to strive to get an A. Literature is my hardest subject, but I think I can do well in it if I continue to work hard and stay focussed.

Pride is something each person accomplishes for himself or herself. Listening to you today made me think to myself of taking pride in the work I do and how I do it. Grammar was a little tough for me and I plan to pay special attention to this. I would like to turn my A- into an A this semester. If I would have re-read over my quiz on the crucible I would have realized the stupid mistakes I made and I would have probably got an A in your class. I will continue to take pride in all of my classes and try harder to achieve improving my grades in all classes. Also, when writing I need to edit and edit and edit to make sure everything sounds good and my paragraphs transition better. Writing is an art, and I hope to become a better writer .

Goals are kind of like guid lines for your life. My goals in school would be to dfo better in Spanish and Languege arts. In general, my goal is to go off the Big Air at Alpine by the end of the snowboarding season. In your class i would like to get a B. Higher would be better but i don't want to stretch it. Ive,got a C in your class like everytime so i want to get a better grade. From your speech i want to do better with remembering to blog and remember to study for vocab. For the first cardmarking i want to work towards a b-.

Another goal I would like to achieve is to do better on tests and quiz's. I plan to study more for them and be more prepared. I also plan to do all my homework and not just do it to get it done. I'm going to do it and learn from it, so I can reach my other goals. And finally I would like to get an A in the class. And I truly believe that if i work hard and do all my work I will be able to reach these goals.

Honestly, I know that I can do better, in terms of my grades. As of now, my grades are good, A's and B's are what I receive. although, I know that if I worked hard, or as your speech about pride, put pride in myself as well as my work. I can reach a whole new level. As for my grade for this semester in the class of Literature, I would like to receive a A-. As for my other classes, sometimes I get a little bit lazy and slack off in the homework department. Yes, I eventually get it all done and turn it in on time, but sometimes I don't always complete it at home. Also, I recently discovered that studying actually helps. Your more familiar with the material, if you review it every so often. This is how I planned to earn my A- in your class, and how I'm going to work in my others.

For the new semester, my main goal is to do my best. Doing my best means doing better than I did last semester, even though I got an A every semester. Doing my best also means that I have to put a full effort forth in everything I do. I also feel like I lacked in the vocabulary area last semester, especially when I was one of the only kids in the class not to get a 100% that one time. Now that we are going to be learning grammer, I am going to have to try my best to understand everything, because that is one of my weaker areas in school. Also, I am going to continue to keep up what I was doing well last semester, such as blogging regularly. With a new semester, there is a new start, and I want to keep up my positive areas and work on my weaker areas.

My goals for this semester seem that they should be simple. I'd like to take pride in all of my work, but sometimes its just so repetitive. It's hard to take pride in busy work. so overall for this semester i would like to care more about the less challenging classes and still take pride in that work. For this class i know my goal will be comprehension of the next novel. I hope that it will be an interesting novel otherwise i lose interest and don't pay much attention to it. By taking your words in class i will have more pride in my work. I can honestly say that I have never copied others work in your class. And now i will no longer let others copy my work. honestly my motivation is more self satisfying, I'm not refusing to share my work to help them, I'm refusing to share my work because i don't want to lose the points. Overall for the class i would like to work towards an A.

My goal for this semester is to pay attention in class. Sometimes I get distracted and zone out, but I am trying to stop that and stay focused. I also need to study more for the vocab quizzes. I usually put it off until right before class starts but I don't want to do what anymore. One thing I also need to do that deals with pride is not giving up when I don't understand something. I need to work through it and not rely on other people. I'm hoping to maintain my grade in this class because I'm happy with what it is now.

my goals for American Literature are very broad, but i do hope to generalize them. I will be striving for better ways to remember all of the information in the class, as well as other classes. I plan on Achieving an A in this class, by doing my best, because, quite honestly, i have never ben very good at literature, although i love coming up with great stories.I plan to achieve this A, by doing the homework the night its assigned, and by, if possible, researching the subject. the last time i checked, that isn't an unfair advantage either; so i think I'm in good shape on that part. I also plan on learning more about the parts of speech, what a thesis truly is, and how to write a good one. thats pretty much for this class, but for school wide things, i have a new plan to achieve a great grade in all of my classes. its pretty straight forward with the fact that i will just dive myself into the homework. instead of blowing it off till later. because thats what i did. and thats why i didn't so good; but thats all going to change. Pretty much, to generalize everything, i will take pride in my work, and look at is as what's helping me go along, and what's helping me further my education. So to wrap it up, I plan on getting an A, by pushing myself to do the work, and to further along the line, find out that i should really put a lot of effort and pride in it, which i really haven't been doing so for schooling really.

I thnik that to do this i will have to be ready to learn and willing to put in extra effort out of the classroom. Secondly i want to do well on the little assignments instead of doing a half ass job on them. I think that those assignments are the ones which add up and show a good student. I think that if we work hard on all of the assignments it should have already tought us all the information for our tests. I have two main goals for the semester in your class. One is to work on writing better essays or papers. I usually wait until the last minute to write the papers and as a result, they usually turn out not well written and sometimes dont make complete sense. So for the new semester I'm going to start writing my papers ahead of time so I can take my time, and they can be more well thought out. Another goal of mine is to study a lot more and earier. Not just for your class but for all my classes. Teachers usually warn us to study 2or 3 days in advance for tests, expecially finals. And again, what happens is I procrastinate until the day before the test, which is a really bad habitto have. For this card marking I would like to pull off anywhere in the A, B or C range. More towards an A or B.

Another is to complete all my assignments and turn them in on time. Finally to ask for extra credit, “just a hint Mr. Kay”. My goal is to get higher than a B- for the marking period.
My goals for school in general is to better improve my grades by turning in and completing my work. To help my self I have to work harder so I will be successful and have pride in what I do.

I am going to try and get 100% on all my vocab quizes. I've gotten 100% on the last two so hopefully i can keep it up! I dont always do my homework either, so thats one thing i will also try and do to. I really hope i can do good this semester.

Yes, I was a absolute screw-up last semester. I was either too lazy to do something, or procrastinated completely and handed in crap. My full potential was never realized last semester, and I know it will be nibbling on my ankles like a playful ferret for the duration of my adolescence. I will try for a C at best, because every time I'm over-confident I screwed up, but when I'm modest, my grades go through the roof. I really don't understand or hope to comprehend. I'm not sure if pride will ever come into bookwork, the higher-quality aspect of my work will only show if I had enjoyed the assignment. I'm trying to fix this, but no matter what happens I'm never properly motivated. I'm just going to say the generic "I'm going too do my best" since it's the only plan I got for now.

On new years day I made many goals for my self to pursue in 2009. I told myself that I was going to work harder and concentrate more in school. As far as your class goes I would like to study better for the vocab tests and work more diligently on my work. After the discussion we had today I realized that you are only making the honor rule to get us ready for the real world. I respect this alot, and I will try to do my work using my own thoughts and feelings. In your class next semester I would like to shoot for a B. In my other classes I would like to also receive B's and A's.

Some of my goals for this semester are to not have any missing assignments, and too finish the year off strong. Missing assignments can hurt ones grade even though its something so simple. Finishing the year off on a good note helps carry momentum into the next year with confidence. I want to have pride in my work which means with quality and completed on time. Finishing the year off on a good note takes pride because most of everyone will get too focused on summer and not do too well to finish up the year. I would like to recieve an A in this class. I believe you challenge us more great than any other teacher I currently have. I think if I recieved an A, I would know that im ready for the future because thats what your preparing us for.

I always look to find new goals. The majority of those goals are for school, geting good grades. This semester I need to focus more on my homework so I can do better on the tests. Also, work more efficently with the work time that is given. What you said today made total sense about being proud of what you do because whatever it is its unique. I would like to work toward getting an A this semester because I have lingered with the A-'s and B+'s in the previous terms. I think if i work a little bit harder I can achive this goal. I look to be more all around focused and task oriented this semester.

I have many goals for this semester that include my grades, school and sports. I'm just going to share my goals for school. This semester I want to learn as much as I can so it can help me down the line. I think that I have learned a ton in all my classes so far, but there is still so much more I am capable of doing. For Your class I want to take what you said in class to heart. I did a good job of not copying for the first semester and I think that I can also take pride in my work for this half of the year as well. I was pissed that for the first semester I got a 3.95. I was so close to getting a 4.0 for the first semester but I blew it. I want to get all A's in all my classes. I also want to try not to have any missing work for the rest of the year. Hopefully i can get the grades that I want and have no trouble with anything.

Mr.Kay,
For this semester I plan to acheive a B in your class. In order to do this i will study for all my vocabulary quizzes and any other test and quizzes we might have. I also Plan to complete my assianments, Meaning actually know what I'm learning instead of just blowing through stuff. In school genral I really want to just honestly try to get b's. I know that I dont try at all to do myy school work. I know that if I do i might be able to achieve these goals. Like you said about not copying other peoples work, This semester I wont let nobody copy mine or do the same to them. I really want to do good and honestly try this semester and see what my true potential is.

My top goal in this second semester, which might be the last semester in American high school in my life, is to do my 'real' best. From the experience during last semester, I found out even if I don't actually do my best, I can get 'A's in easier ways. In the first two months, when I was playing soccer for Lakeland, the time I was actually more busy and easily got exhausted, I did better job and had better grades and was more challenging in all classes. After the season was done, I rather became so lazy and started looking for easier ways, since I was obsessed to the mind I have a lot of time. The mind to do works moderately, however, was a big enemy in doing any work. In most human cases, I believe, when a man sets a goal, he always hits below the goal-line, which means if he sets a goal 'moderately' he can only exhibit less than half of his whole abilities. If so, what is the purpose of doing those works? Not to get yelled at by parents or teachers? If it's the reason, I've nothing to tell. But once a man has great dream to be succeed in life, he can't persist that way anymore. If the man says school work is dumb and has a daring plan for his life, he should walk out and do what he thinks is right for him-as long as he does his best. In order to mark this upcoming five months, I'll be forgetting any knacks or tacts, and if possible, forever.

My goals are simple. To get good grades (better grades in certain classes), and to continue studying for grammar/vocab quizes. In a way I already had pride but your words of pride are still important to me Mr. Kay. I will definately try my hardest to keep the pride that I have. I would like my grade in this class, definately, to go up. I know the grades I had last semester weren't the best that they could be. So I plan to makethem better, at least a B or higher.

My main goal for your class is to pass all of my vocabulary tests. I know that might be hard to do at times but I think I can do it. I also need to work on paying attention. I have an extremely low attention span and that affects me badly. I should also work on getting homework in, and that goes for all of my classes. I want to get a C in your class at least. I think it's possible.. If I work really hard.

I found out my internet got shut off by the company, not because of weather. It was just turned back on. Sorry it was later than i told you but its the best I could do...

This semester I want to mainly get better grades. I want to pay attention and not slack off in every class. In your class, I want to do better on my blogs (bad start huh?) I also want to get all A's on my vocabulary quizes. I want to take pride in work i did, with 100% effort. I dont want to just throw something together and turn it in so its not counted as missing. In your class I hope to learn how to write better. Its something i seem to have a hard time with. Knowing i need to be able to wite essays and papers in the future that problem needs to be solved.
