Tried to get the blog up earlier but had to leave school and play the carpool dad all afternoon.
Today we continued our discussion of perceptions and cultures. Hopefully by the time we finished reading you truly understood the point of the Nacirema.
For this evening, I want you to find a current event and first discuss what the event is about and how you think it effects you. Then, I want you to discuss the current event if you were reading it but did not understand the country. You will probably need more than 7 sentences for this one.

One of the big topics lately is the Kwame texting scandel. Personally being a young adult i feel it does not have veru many effects on me but i will say that it hurt the city of detroit over all with there beliefs and trust in Kwame to make detroit a better place. But instead of doing so, he made many mistakes such as taking tax money and using it torwards his new car. The last incodent in which topped the hole kwame trust off was the text messaging scandel in which he was caught texting sexualy to his chief of staff.
I believe that if i were to be from another country of somesort and had came to michigan to visit. I would look at Kwame with a belief that he is a very intellegent man that is willing to reshape the city of detroit. i can percieve this by just seeing Kwame being the Mayor of detroit because it takes courage, patients, and smarts to take the role of such a high priority needing job.

Mr.Kay,
One current event that I can think of is the election of the first african american president. I think that this effects my life because, first its and big part in american history. Second is that this changes the perceptions of me and everybody else about the american government. If I lived in a foreign country I would see this election as a very interesting part in history. I would probally see it as America finally proveing that we are all about acceptance. I would see a country that has always had that white male for a leader and finally there is a change. I think that this was a really good example because it changes the veiws of america by alot of people.

Today's problem is the economy. Obama said this is because of irresponsibility. I most definitely agree. This effects me because when I get older I think that there will be hardly any money left over for people who need it.
If I was from another country I would believe that we are well off right now. But I would soon see that we are far in debt. I'm sorry I dont really understand what you want...I tried though.

MOSUL, Iraq These people are use to the bombing. Mohammed Shakir, who is 67, the top candidate for the local council with the Iraqi Islamic Party. He says that there is no politics where there is chaos and car bombing.in Mosul, the violence has not ended. A civilian died in the car bombing.

a family of four were found dead, they saaid that this could of been a suicide murder. to me this doesnt really effect me, but it makes me more alert..i know that the world isnt perfect and scary crap like this will happen. i think more people should also talk if they are hurtin inside. like me i dnt like to share my emotions. but in this story no one new that the person that supposely killed themself seemed happy. so that would b scary if some one i new killed. themself when i thought they were ok.
if another person from another country heard of this they wouldnt be shocked at all. there are killers and suicides all overr.

The price of Gas has been making headlines for quite some time now. Its currently at a pretty low price but could just as well spike bacl up in a short amount of time. Gas raised many questions about the future and what we as humans will do in order to find an alternative. It got us as a whole society to realize what we are doing to the earth and what we can do to fix what we have done. Another perception to this topic might not even relate to someone who has lived in a jungle all their life. They dont know about greenhouse gases and fossil fuels and how these toxins are effecting the same earth they thrive on. Someone from such a remote area uses what the earth offers, they have been bred this way for years. The difference between living in an advancing industrial world and living in the jungles of south africa are survival. Although no matter which one, something always has to give. Since im part of and living in an advancing technological time, the consequences are that we still havent figured out how to get the best of living with technology and not destroying earth as we go. Living in the jungle, you just want to get by with means of survivng. You embrace the shade trees give you, while others cut them down to make paper. People living in jungles or other remote areas may not have the best looking teeth, or smell so great, but maybe they dont care. We prefer showering twice a day, brushing our teeth every night, and keeping sanitary, but all these years of using earths materials, we just might not care about how much were destryoing our provider.

The topic is that a teenager got a sexual comment on Facebook. I guess someone hacked in to this guy named Tony Harris's facebook. They posted a nasty comment on a female's page. He gave his password to the person. He knows that he shouldn't have. Tony Harris goes to Calvin College. Calvin put him on 6 months probation. He also has to move out of the dorms. This could effect me because that I have a facebook. Someone could post that on my facebook. If I was from another country I would think that this country is wacko. Especilly Mighigan. People on the internet are just weird.

As i have said in other blogs, and i say again the economy in the united states is terrible. It is a main issue in our society. People are losing jobs, and houses are being foreclosed across the country. Many families are having to cut back, and all companies are hurting from this. I think that if i was from a different country i would be like" ARE YOU KIDDING ME, you people are all so rich." To many others in the world, your high in status if you have running water. I would ask why everyone is flipping out because people in most other countries would be happy with the amount of money we spend on fast food in a month, for their gross income. For the united states as we go into panic mode, i think we need to take a deep breath and come up with a plan to getting back on track, because theres many people that arent nearly as fortunate as us who are doing just fine.

A topic that has the entire country talking is that we have our very first black president. This most defiantly affects me and everyone else in the country because it shows that America is not as racist as we were many years ago. Blacks are being treated equally and are being included. This is a huge step for America. Since Obama has a huge power and responsibility he has to make huge choices, and some people say that being black will affect his disicion makeing. Personaly I dont see how this is going to affect these decision but every choice Obama makes affects everyone in this country.
If I was a person from another country, (depending on the country) I would probually be curious why America is thinking this a big deal. Since many countries don't have people from all ethnicities I probually wouldn't understand why this hasn't happened before.

The current event that i chose was about Obama being elected for president. i chose this because his election was really important because he is the first african american to be in ofice. This current event effects me because its a really big deal in american history. Also because in a way, its showing how america is reaching a change in our country. Obama being elected president also changed peoples views or perceptions about the u.s government and politics. If i was from a foreign country i would be really surprised and glad that america is changing, and rising above racism or any discrimination against people. Its showing how america is accepting any race or gender for president. This example really changes the views that people have about america.

I picked the topic I found on foxnews, A couple cloned their family dog. They paid $155,000 to get their dog cloned, Lancelot, who died January 08. I guess they missed their dog a lot or something. That's sort of really messed up though lol. I (personally liking animals a lot) think thats sort of a wrong thing to do. Instead of cloning that dog they could have gotten another dog from the pound, for cheaper too. So by cloning this dog they put another dog without a home. I don't know lol that's just me. I love animals (hence the fact I'm a vegetarian)
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,484148,00.html
If I where from another country and I came to America and saw that someone copied their dog I would probably be a little afraid. If I where in my own country I'm sure they wouldn't copy dog dna to make a new dog lol. I would think America was just a country for nut cases.

Mr. Kay,
A column in the Oakland Press states that a man from L.A. lost his job, killed his wife, his 5 kids, and himself. The Lupoe family was just a normal family living in L.A. and Long Beach. At around 8:30 am, a local TV station had recieved a fax saying that the Lupoe family had just lost there jobs at the Hospital, and that they planned the killings as a final escape for the Lupoe family. The father of the Lupoe family took his job loss the hardest. The mother was found in the downstairs bedroom as well as the bodies of the 2 year-old twin boys. The body of an 8 year-old girl as well as the bodies of the 5 year-old twin girls were found alongside Lupoe's in an upstairs bedroom. When the police arived at the sceen, they said that they could still smell the gunpowder residue. The father and mother of the Lupoe family planned the killing of there family. They killed there 5 kids because they didn't want anyone else taking care of their children. I think that this affects me because it shows me how far some people will go to strive the point that some people just can't take losing their job. I can't think of how afraid the children must have been, it must have been horrible. If I came to Michigan and heard about this story, I think that I would be puzzled. I think that I would think that the family might have been forced to send the letters and the phone call to the police. And who ever forced them, killed them after they sent the letter an the phone call. It would make me feel like I would be really afraid that something like that would happen to me.

A topic of importance is our economy and the concessions the auto makers have to make. Over the last several months there was a question as to whether we were going to bail out the car companies. This effect's many people in Michigan because GMC, Ford, and Chrysler are based here. Our economy here in Michigan relies a lot on the auto companies. The government approved a bail out, however, with stipulations. The unions are required to make some changes in order for the car companies to received the bail out money. The car companies were asked to give up their job banks. The job banks gave laid off workers most of their pay and benefits while they are not working. I am sure this costs a lot of money that the companies just don't have. The car companies are ending the job banks. I believe that if someone from another country saw that we were paying people the same amount of pay while they are not working, it is no wonder the car companies are struggling.
On Wednesday someone saw ten cars off the road because of the snow. The person said "it took them an hour and 45 mintues to get to where they were going." I guess this effects me even though I don't drive. Like if someone's car broke down in the middle of the road it can cause a traffic jam. Also, if somebody car breaks down when they are running let for work or school it can effect them. If I was from another country I would be a afraid to get in a car and drive on a highway. I would be to afraid because I don't want to get in a car accident or traffic jam.

my topic ia a ice storm that leaves 1.3 million homes without power. a big ice storm in kentucky leaves many people helpless. barrock obama said that kentucky should work round the clock to clean up that mess. he sent in the national guard to help with this situation. if i was in a different country i would think that obama made a good move sending in the national guard to help. but also he should sned the kentucky government some money to help pay for all the damage. also to find places that people can go for gas and heating for houses for people without generators. so people can stay warm in this crisis for the time that people have no power. also how to prevent all this damage to happen again. maybe strengthening the power lines some how. thats what i feel on this situation.

A current event would be president Obama's presidential election. This made history because its our first black president. This affects me because of his promise for change. If he does not fix current problems my future could be ruined. People outside probably wonder why us as americans think its a big deal. Many other contries/cultures have colored presidents/leaders so they would be used to it. They think we are being a bit over the top. They wonder why Americans are praising just an average joe to them. This is what most people would think. This event is mainly important because we need change.
I think a current event that effects people is the election of Obama. Also our economy is a big deal. Whats sad is that Obama has had the most death threats then any other president. He is also the only black president. I think it shows how ignorant our country is. Which shows America isn't the perfect picture a majority of people see. We may seem perfect in other country's but we aren't. We have some many people that if they are viewed by the public on camera or news paper or some other public commercial thing they live out the need to feel perfect. Why should we do that? we always feel the need to reflect to the rest of the world that we have no flaws. In other parts of the world there have been constant civil wars for 10 plus years.

the current event i chose was about an infection called Sepsis. the infection is known to spread very quickly and be hard to stop was the infection has started in at least one part of the body. one medical executive said that once the infection reaches a certain point, it can become serious in a matter of hours. i think this current event could effect all of us because we are all vulnerable to disease and infection. it could be a concern for almost everyone.
Cited: cnn,com/health
if i were from another country or even a small tribe i would be very scared by this infection. something that can kill you in a matter of hours should be a thought for concern. i would try to stay away from whatever could have caused this infection for fear i would catch it.

I believe the election of Obama is one of the most important current event. Not only has he made history, but he has the courage to step up and do something that nobody in history had done. This is to be the first black president. I dont look at race, so i dont think the election of him has hat big of an effect on me. But i can only imagine how many people are upset with the fact that we have a black president. I think i would be shocked if i read this and didnt know the country. I think when people think of america, especially presidents, they think of a white male. Well not anymore. This is a huge step for america, and the world. So in the end, i think an outsider would be blown away with the fact that a white male isnt the president.

One of the most important things going on right now is having the first black president. I think it is a good sign to America that he got elected because it is showing race doesn't matter anymore. Now that doesn't mean that people aren't racist but this is a stepping stone to getting over the hump of racism. Also, this really does effect me because next time pesidental election i am goging to be able to vote. If our current one does good then i won't second think voting another black president in but if he really screws up then i might not vote for a black president. Now if i was from another country, lets say Africa, and heard about this i would be kind of shocked. I say that because i wouldn't understand why it is as big of a deal as it is. Expecially since i am from Africa were most leaders are black. Another thing is, i would wonder why it is only the first president that is black. Plus i would ask people who it is and stuff. Or were he is from and other just basic questions.

What attracted my attention when I was searching for current news for this blog was NKorea declares past accords with South 'dead'. New government of South Korea's attitude toward North Korea was a conduct of turning every effort and progress of relationship that former presidents had accomplished to be useless. The president Lee, in my opinion, is a un-predictable person. While he said a negotitation between foreigh countries, made by a 'mere' minister, cannot be breached, he simply washed his mouth off about the compromises made by a 'president of a country'. Since, for regional reason, South is gonna be the first victim of any war between the North Korea and another if the war breaks out, which means my president's acts should be reconsidered as sensitive one. I have a great hope that the president, who , as the first time, made me go out to the street for demonstration, will soon be able to make wise decisions.

In the Detroit Free Press, Jan. 29, and on the news I heard that water rates would properly raise nearly 10%. This raise in rates is because of the big drop in annual water consumption. The cause for the drop is because of a snowy winter and rainy spring. So people did not have to use so much water on landscaping. If this happens it will cause hardships. This will be a problem for us because of the fact that my Dad is retired and we are on a fixed income.
I do not understand why you have to pay for your water. Just go down to the lake or river and get some water. I tried to go down to the lake and get some water to use. When I looked at it, it is filed with black specks. It tasted and smelled funky. Why do you let your lakes and rivers get so dirty.
One event I can think of is the election of Barack Obama. This is a major event because it is the first African American Presidents in history. His election day changed the United States as well as the perspective of many Americans. I truly believe that this effects me because of it being a once in a lifetime opportunity. In the future there may be other African American presidents but I got to see the first one be elected.
If I were an outsider and didn't understand the country, I wouldn't view this as a major event. If I didn't understand the country, I wouldn't have understood the tension there used to be between blacks and whites. Because of this, I would not understand the importance of this event.

One of the most talked about topics lately would have to be the election of Barack Obama. As we all know, we have elected a new president who just so happened to be an African American. Obama is the first African American president to ever be elected and this election will be a historic one. I think this event effects me in a good way. I say this because I think Obama has a very good chance of turning this country around and heading into the right direction. I hope he does this because I will be getting older and needing to rely on the economy for a job and house etc. I think that if I was from another country and heard about this I would say good for them. I would say this because maybe they want to try something differernt and hopefully change the country. I would say that Obama is a very courageous man, taking on the responsibility of running a country and trying to dig them out of a recession.

I found that an Alaskan volcano is close to erupting. One Hundred miles southwest of Anchorage is a vlocano that hasn't blown it's top since 1989. Mount Redoubt - a 10,197ft peak giving deep earthly rumbles every hour.
~
Hm. A volcano might erupt? That's not big news here in Italy. At least there they evacuate when the first sign of a possible eurption occurs.
Is this country blind? This volcano could blow at any time, especially when they do not expect it. The favorite volcano among Americans is not only Mount Hele-whatshername, but also Mount Vesuvius, the great volcano whos eruption lasted two days in AD 79.
The thick white ash that was spewed from the crag buried and destroyed Pompeii and it's sister city, Herculaneum. It has been the most popular tourist attraction in Italy. America hasn't seen such a large eruption with their own eyes, nor did they discover the lost city in 1748.
Take that, HollyWood.

A big current event in the world today is the car companies going bankrupt. This effects everyone because sooner or later people are going to need to buy new cars. In this article it says that Ford wont aid their supplier Visteon. Yeah that isn't one of the big four but if the economy keeps going as bad as it is now, it could be on of the big four companies going bankrupt. And this effects me because who knows what kind of cars will be available when our generation needs to buy new cars. If i was an outsider looking in on America and reading this article. I'd be confused, i would wonder why do they care so much about cars. Because the outsider probably doesn't rely on cars to go from place to place. Personally i think that the person would think were lazy, we have to have a car take us place instead of just walking.

I feel that the war in Iraq is a big issue for americans today. Suicides among U.S. soldiers rose last year to the highest level in 10 years. At least 128 soldiers killed themselves in 2008. I think that this is a bit disterbing that american soldiers would rather kill them selves in Iraq. This may not effect me that much as I am a bit young to be affecteed. But it makes me wonder about how the army is treating our american soldiers. I think that the army could be doing something wrong for people to be comiting suicide. If I were form another country, I would look at america as a hateful place. I would think that if people are killing themselves in war than they must not care to die for their county. Or that people don't have a care for our county or others, and their life was so bad in america that they couldn't handle it.

The current event i chose, is the corruption on the Detroit city council. Jim Rosendall, was a representative for Synagro Technologies. Synagro was trying to win approval from the council for a 47 million a year contract. In 2007 the council voted 5-4 for it to pass. On Monday, Rosendall pleads guilty to conspiracy. Supposedly Rosendall bribed Kwame Kilpatric, kwame's father, and a woman on the city council. I believe this current event effects many of us in Michigan. Its given us reason to lose faith in our government. This also effects how the rest of the country perceives Detroit. I mean even are Mayor was in jail! From another country's point of you, i'm not sure how they would understand us. Some may believe that its reasonable and material objects should be given to sway ones ideas. Though many others could perceive it as immoral and wrong to twist the beliefs of others by bribery. Many tribes would be in disgust of the disloyalty and the dishonest government officials.
A current event that has been a hot topic lately is our new president, Barrack Obama. He became officially our 44th president this month. All of us now are living in history, as people would say. What this means to me is that, years from now, students just like we are today are going to be reading and taking tests on our time. Personally, I think that is really cool, just knowing that were in history, and will be forever. I like to think that history goes on forever, so Obama being sworn as our new president is a starting of a very new beginning.
If I were a different country I would be kinda shocked that everyone in America is making such a big deal about an African American being out new president. Little do they know, it's a huge step for our country. We went from not letting blacks be in the same schools as us, them being our slaves, to having to sit in the back of the bus, to being our president of the United States. This shows that our country is continuing to progress with the racism level (meaning decreasing). This is a huge improvement. Also, as of now I've been hearing that Obama is trying to make amends with people from other countries. Trying to start fresh with a clean slate.

Cause he doesnt have much of any expierence. if i were in a foreign country i would think that this is going to be a very important part in history. We have always had a white male as our president, This is very different. I think that he will be able to to a good job deffending our country. But i dont know if he will be able to handle it all. This changes the view on america for a lot of people.

The biggest current event of today is the election and presidency of Barack Obama. This was a very historical event because Obama is our first black president. This shows the change the country has made. It effects us all in the sense that the economy is at worst, and we need a president to get us through the recession. Every presidency is important because it determines how our country's future is going to look for the next four years. If I was reading this from an outside point of view, I could have mixed reactions. First, I may not agree or understand the way of our voting and our decision to even have a president. I might think that we should have a different type of government rather than a democracy. I would applaud the country for voting a black president into office. However, like we have been talking about in class, its all based on perception. My perception would mainly be based on what country I came from, the type of government, and their view on equality.
The current even that I choose would be obama being the frist african america elected for president. Before when bush was our president our economy was kinda getting really bad. Everyone was looseing there jobs and house. this effects me because my dad lost his job for six mounts because my dad works in the car indstury. Obama being the frist african american i think he might help out country out and save us. I think hes gonna do the better. This is a big step for America. Since Obama has a huge power and responsibility he has to make huge choices.
In our growing economy, more and more technologies are being developed. This year, all Tv's will have to switch to digital. Many of the most popular portable TV's are not digital, and won't work after the digital transition. People are complaining about how certain portable TV's do not get many channels in certain areas. Critics believe that in time, they will get better, but we will just have to make use with what we have now. For me, the digital transition won't affect me, because I have Comcast and it automatically switches. For other Americans, they are worried about how to get digital. If I were some one from a different country, I would first off, be amazed with TV's to begin with. The whole idea of digital TV would blow over my head and I probably would not see the big deal about it. Plus, portable TV's would be amazing and I wouldn't care how many channels they get. I would just be excited to carry around the TV and watch anything, no matter how boring. Overall, we seem to be dissatisfied with what we are given, even though we have so much more than others without even realizing it.

The most controversial and popular event currently is the election of the first black president. It affects all of us because we are the governed and he is the governor. So, the choices he makes along with the legislature affect all of us either directly or indirectly. It affects me in these ways. I don't think our country is going to get any better while Obama is in office, but thats just my opinion. If I were reading about this but I didn't understand the country, I would definately be confused. I would first maybe criticize the type of government, in favor of my traditional ways. I also might discriminate against the first black president, or I might applaud it. Everyone has their own opinions depending on whrere they came from. Its all about the way you look at it and it has to do with your preception.
A current event that just happened this very night was the senior night Girls Basketball game. This event was all about the seniors that played on the Varsity team and they get to play a lot more than they usually do. This effects me because my sister is one of those seniors playing. To night i got to watch her play a lot more and get one point and one assist. If i was from an other counrty i wouldn't know why these certain girls were getting applauded and have been given flowers and stuff. I would wonder what kind of ritual are these girls doing with that rubber thing they bounce and why they throw it at a glass wall and metal ring. And why when the rubber bouncy thing goes in the metal ring that one team gets lights added to a shrine. I would know that it is the end of the ritual when the girls line up and shake hands and arn't running back and forth anymore. Half of the these watchers stood up and slapped there hands together for one side of girls. Then all the people went back to there headquarters and there ritual room was empty.

I want to talk about the election of Barrak Obama. I was watching the news and they were interviewing people from detroit and talking about what everyone thought. I thought that it was funny that everyone was saying that now that Obama is president that the don't have to worry about anything anymore. This made me laugh because people think that just because Obama is black that he's got their back and everything is going to be amazing. One lady was talking about how she doesn't have to worry about her car insurance, her mortgage or her job. She thinks that now everything is going to be handed to her. This is going to be worse for our economy because now people are going to think they're free to do whatever they want. I love how all the people blog about how the election of Obama has changed their life. All that has changed is the color of the presidents skin, which doesn't really matter anyways. So im sick of everyone acting like Obama is going to change their lives, nothings going to change except mabye a few more prisons getting shut down, and criminals set free. So if you're saying Obama is doing so much for you, shut up because he's not.
So many people in this country are worshiping a person that isn't even doing anything for them. It's like worshiping the devil, they don't understand that all he's doing is hurting them. It doesn't make sence and this county is going to suffer greatly in the future.

One events as the world changes, is the changing of the presidents. As the older term of Bush ended, he stated that his term was "mis-underestimated". I wish I was joking, I seriously do. The Grammar that bush had made couldn't impress a 3nd grader. But enough Bush-bashing(Tamm don't freak out like last time) now we have Obama as president. Now that we have a new president we will get a new set of bills proposing different views, if the economy will become better I don't have a lot of confidence, I live by the rule that something must prove itself. It is crap, unless it proves itself otherwise. That way, if something is really good, it's a great surprise, if not "I totally called it". This obliviously affects me by controlling the 'system' that brings order, like job opportunities, education ect..
If I was looking at this country from another perspective, I would be pulling my hair out! The economy's crap, and higher positions haven't changed hands to "experiment" who/what is best. Instead, stupid politicians are in such a position and changing the salaries so that they are fine in economic crisis! I say governmental jobs should be the average income of a American family! Then the goverment would soon realize how messed up things are!

Well since everyone's silent on the whole wow thing I assume it's safe to talk about it without other people bludgeoning me over the head with obvious questions
Ex Is there any purple dragon?
A: actually yes, now there is. HAPPY?!
So there is a violate dragon I can use as a mount that has the best speed in the game. The only thing is I have to complete all the event achievements. wish me luck! I only like 2 events, the others are eye strains.ow
In recent human events, I have found that the inauguration of President Barack Obama has truly effected me, as a democrat, and an american. From the democratic standpoint, i'm glad He got voted in, because thats who i wanted in the Office. But As an american, i am truly glad we all came together, for one day, and had no problems whatsoever. which is impressive for 2 million people. It definitely affects me to the point that he will be a great help to the economy. Now For my outside point of View.
Yeah eh, those'em American's got themselves a new Leader, eh? wel Aint that nifty for those fifty. say, does that leader get to read to ev'ryone? oh, hes supposed to lead them. but what does that'em mean? what'r all his Doodies? like, what might be'em his main goals? Oh, so your-a-getting to the fakts that he's a one who tells people what to do. Ha Ha, i got one of them when i was young'em to, it was called me Mum! Oh, so he is the rulifacation setter-upper for them nifty fifertyies? well thats'em some real aw-somes for them. But Wait, he's a Black Man, what'em this shenanigan'ems those fiferties be pulling? Oh, so you're'em saying that they can elect anyone? include Negros? Well good'em for them'em.
i put in the accent, so its hard to read. But it ads to the authenticity of this canadian british mild racist.
kind of fun writing the 'ems after a lot of things.
anyways, i believe that people can see it as a huge accomplishment of electing a Black American into office, which i think is a great thing. we have come far from DR. Martin Luther Kings dream, and we have seen the promise land.
Thank You Dr.King.

Mr. Kay,
1. SO today on the local new website, Ford reported that they have lost more money this year than any other year. I guess this means less workers, and then, less cars being manufactured. This shows me how bad the economy is getting to the point where major car companies are losing tons of money. If the economy doesn't get better, I wont be able to make money or live in Michigan or anything. People always say you should "buy American" but if there aren't enough cars to go around nor enough money, then you can't. I think we people need to step in and do something to help the economy. Maybe then we'll have something to drive in a couple of years.
2. So there's this culture in the North American region that are in a "predicament". They have these small moving enclosed seats in which they are dependent on. One of their major people who make these moving seats on wheels isn't doing so well. Their lost a ton of money and they are having a tough time making seats on wheels. I think these people should be happy with their seats on wheels and keep on getting more so that their economy becomes better. We'll I know that if I was there, I would have seats on wheels, even if the economy was perfect. Well, All I can say is that this culture needs somewhat of a wakeup call.

A current event that affects me is Obama being elected president. I think a new president effecs everyone because of the way the economy and stuff like that can change. This is even bigger though because Obama is out first black president. It shows people that American has come a long way and is closer to becoming equal between different races. There is still discrimination but at least we know there is hope.
If I was from a different country like one with all black people I wouldn't really think this is a big deal. I would think that Americans are making a big deal out of nothing and that the whole thing is stupid. People in my country would be saying bad things about Americans.
On January 27th 2009 President Obama had his first ever formal television interview. I dont think that this actually effects me much. But it actually affected my day greatly. I am kind of angry that one man having his first formal interview could ever be worthy of a current event on yahoo. If I were from another country this event would never make since to me. Especially because the only people from a country like America could understand the reason why this made a current event. I think that i would be very confused.

I think a big issue that is happening right now is the recession that are country is going through. This affects me and every other person who cares about there money. With the motor companies shutting down factories and cutting workers people are struggleing to pay and support there family's. If they can find a job it isn't as high paying as before and the family will have to change the way they do things. Since the economy has worsened my family has had to shop smarter to buy less expensive stuff to get through the times. If I were someone who didn't understand the country I would wonder why people cared so much about money. They probably see that the American civilization is run by money and you are treated different depending on how much money you make or have. If I didn't know any better I would say that America is a very materialistic country.

A recent current event would include having O-LED and 3D television. The wonders of O-LED is beginning to rise. O-LED allows you to have a TV as thin as a piece of paper. You can bend it and twist it any way you want. The now have O-LED wristbands where you can watch TV on your wrist. Also they are now selling 3D HD T.V.'s. I think this effects me because some day I want to go into the computer industry and just looking at how technology is progressing now shows a bright future for me in that field of work. If I was an outsider I would think that having a a tv as thin as paper would be impossible. I would think that everyone is crazy to spend over $4,000 on a tv. I would not understand what the TV was really for it just looks like people are being forced to watch it with its addicting sitcoms.

a current event that is going on in our country is the poor economic conditons. this is affecting everyone even if it is just a little. almost everyone is feeling the sense of losing money and trying to hold on to it. this is effetcing me because my dad's company isn't doing as good as it used to and they are having problems making ends meet. that is how it is for a lot of businesses right now. i hope we get out of this conditon soon so nothing happens like moving or anything.
if i was an anthorpologist and was observing americans during this time i could have a lot of perceptions. i might think that all these people are crazy for careing about money so much and that it is wierd that our world is run by green pieces of paper. i might wonder why these people can't just look at other things in life and find happiness in those.
Ford had the biggest loss of money in this past year than any other year. Ford lost $14.6 billion and many workers because of it. In today's news, Ford had lost the most amount of money in the fourth quarter. A $5.9 billion dollar loss was announced today. This effects my family and myself in a huge way. This will mean that in another 6 months or so, Ford will be making job cuts again putting my father in danger of losing my jobs. Because Ford is being stubborn by not taking money from the government, more and more jobs will be dropped.
Today I noticed many people with their heads down in shame because of this loss of currency. Apparently cars are a big deal here. I have never seen so much pain from an industry that we are lucky to have where I live. I can't even imagine the pain people are feeling here because they put their heart and souls into this work and only for it to turn around and slap them in the face. Although industry is a very good thing, it can many times be destructive.

My event was about a man that froze to death just a few days ago in Detroit, the identy of the man is still unkonowen. He was found in a warehouse, how long he was there is not said, but it must have been a long time. This event effects me by wondering how long he was there without someone looking for him. Its sad beacause almost everone has someone that knows you and why that person did not going seacrhing for him makes me wonder. If it was shelter this man was looking for and this was his best option, then no one cared about him enough to find hima better place. If i was from somewhere eles and saw heard about this then i would be mad at the citizens in the area for not caring for a human life. The rich should take care of the poor beacuase they cant care for themselfs without help. I would also say dont just be a bystander do something.

Michael Phelps was caught smoking marijuana sunday. I could not even believe what I was reading. It was dispicable and shocking to see one of our greatest atheletes doing that. I think it affected me because I definatly look up to him and want to be like him. I don't smoke so now I think I will look at him diffrently. It sucks because he seems like such a nice guy.
If i did not understand America I would definatly look at it as a negative country. For this peticular event I would think that our athletes our irresponsinble, liers, and dumbasses. I mean it is bad enough that baseball has the whole steroid scandals, but now this, drugs in swimming, and who knows maybe many others. If i was foreign I would think that America does not keep a close enough eye on their athletes, espicially those competing in olympic trials.

The current event i picked is the peanut health issues going around. Peanut butter was recalled due to Salmonella. A Georgia health inspector who toured the peanut butter plant saw only two minor violations in October. Less than three months later, federal inspectors found roaches, mold, a leaking roof and other sanitation problems. This effects me and everyone becasue yeah, its only peanut butter whatever, but it could happen to any food. No one would no and people could die or get very sick from everyday food they eat all the time. This stuff should not happen because disease causing bacteria and other harmful things should be noiced when being sold to public. If someone from another counrty heard this or read it many thought could go through thier head. Some 3rd world countires could think nothing of it because it may happen a lot where they are from, and they could be wondering why its such a big deal. Others may think we are gross for this happening and question why we would let that slip.

Recently on Mount Redoubt there has been some steam rising from the volcano. Geologists are saying that it's more of a matter of when than if the volcano erupts. Over the last 2 days the volcano has no escalation of tremors. The volcano has been showing a kind of "waxing and waning of activity". Although this volcano is really not near me it still makes me worried for the people in Alaska who live by this volcano.
I read this news of the volcano in Alsaka and it interests me. First off, has there been an eruption there before? Because itseems like people are really worried about it. Don't get me wrong I care that they are safe but if I was living there I would go somewhere else for a little while. Maybe another relatives or something, instead of just waiting for it to happen.

Mr. Kay,
I think that a major event going on in the country now is Kwame Kilpatrick. It makes an impact on our life in a little bit. It makes the economy worse because some of our money is being spent on dumb stuff. Also, this event makes all of the people in the US second guess how the government is running our country. If I were form another country and heard about this event, I would wonder how Michigan and Detroit could let something like this happen. I would wonder and question if the government is running our country in a way that is the best for the people. It would definately trun me away from every moving to Michigan because you dont know where your money is going and how it is being spent.
