Mr. Kay,
There are a couple of things that us teenagers are held up to in society. One thing that we are expected to do is be bad kids. People think that all teenagers are bad and start to assume things. In school we are expected to do our best and at least try hard to do something in with our lives. I know that my parents want the best for me and expect me to want the best for me. Parents are sometimes too harsh on teens and expect too much. there have been times where my parents expect too much out of me and I end up doing worse than I had been doing before.
In society today i think that were are expected to comform to a samll extent. I think this because we really aren't forced to conforn, we choose to do so just so we can fit in. Some situations i can think of when there is conformity going on is, mostly at school. People tend to not realize that they are conforming, but what they don't realize is that their little groups or (cliques) are like little conforming communities. They dress the same, act the same, and even seem to talk the same. I feel that conformity rally isn't a big deal, if you like the way you are don't go and change it just because someone tells you to. People will continue to conform until the end of time, so don't expect it to change anytime soon.

The tenth grade class, I believe, hardly expects us to conform. Although there are times when we are expected to conform. For example I like listening to the Jonas Brothers and most guys do not like them at all. Sometimes I get the oddest looks from people when I tell them that I listen to the JoBros. Or, when my mom brought home our chihuahua for the family. I told all of my friends about him and I was laughed at. They all told me pretty much the same thing; "That's a girls dog." I don't care, he's the cutest thing ever lol.

Mr. Kay,
I believe that there are a couple things that us as teens are held up to in society. First, I think that Grown-up's think that all teenage girls will do is go hook up with some guy and get pregnate. No offence, but really, if that's all people think about when they think of teenage girls, then they need to go see a doctor because something is seriously wrong with them. Second, I think that we teenagers don't get enough credit. For example, once again no offence to anyone, but school has changed alot from when most of our parents had been there. We have more complicated science, some math, and even some history. Parents don't give there kids enough credit, I know someone in my family that always has this stupid comment they say whenever I have problems with my math. They get really upset when I don't understand something, and then they tell me "Danielle, a pre-schooler could this". It really drives me insaine.

I think our society has high expectations. Whether your at school or at home you are expected to conform to others. I am expected to come home and start my homework right away. If it were up to me I would wait. To keep the peace I go ahead and do it.I am, therefore, conforming to what my parents want. At school there are different cliques and if you don't conform to their expectations and act how they act you are ignored by them. I try to be my own person and chose what I allow myself to conform too.

I think that society today in michigan wants us to conform way more than it used to. I think with the economy, people thing if the teenagers dont straighten up we will have no opportunities. Which all in all may be true. In schools, i think that the same holds true. They want us to be perfect so we will be able to compete for high end jobs in the future. In my house, my parents think i need to be the perfect conformist. No cell phone after a certain time, and all of their rules want to keeo me contained and on track. In the sports world, i think coaches are trying to make robots. In all sports now kids are expected to run plays and do the same thing that is suppossed to work every time. I thnik that there is more to this and athletics should be free, just let th ekids go play and see what happens. I thnik right now the whole world is getting to strict on all youth. Let us live our lives and learn some things from experience.

I think we are held to conform in socity. Like in school we are exepted to try are hardest, i think teachers except alot out of us because they know that we can do it. If we have a job were expected to do are work and do it good. I think we do what we can but honesty we cant do everything yeah alot of things are hard but we do them and learn that those things will make us stronger and we will learn for those things. I think we are expected to do alot but its only because teachers or bosses no that we can do them. We do what we can do and i think society does put alot of pessure on teenagers.

To an extent I think society expects us to conform to what others are doing. When something is popular, it is almost expected for everyone to conform to it. Today I think a big thing people are expected to conform to are looks, clothing, and the way we act. I think people expect this because so many people are striving to fit in. If it means to change who you really are, people are willing to do it to fit in. I think that there is a very defined way people think others should dress and act in society today. In my life, people are expecting me to act a certain way, because that is what they think is right. I don't think that there is a right way for people to conform to.
I think our society expects us to comform to are behavior. I think this because we are older and their are younger kids who look up to us. In the community society expects me to comform behavior by showing that I have good manners. Also, by going to school. In school expects me to comform to behavior by not goofing off, and by working hard. In my life my parents expect me to comform to behavior because their the ones that raised me and taught me how to act approtriely. Those are someways you can comform.

Today teenagers are held to high expectations. Most of these expectations are from your parents. They expect you to live the life the same way they did. And even then they become even more strict. The community thinks that teenagers pose a threat to them like Timmy said. People hear things in the news and automatically think that all teenagers are terrible people. Expectations continue to exceed the prvious years expectations because the world is getting worse and worse. Teenagers are expected to exceptional in school and 50% don't and those are the people that society is trying to get to conform. Everybody wants to see others succeed in life and that's why society is trying to get people to conform.

some things kids are held up to in society is like school. we are expected to do our best in school. Sometimes are best isnt very good, but most of us try our hardest. Some parents expect to much of us. they pressure us to get good grades and then we end up not getting them. teachers exspect alot from us to. i think thats because they kknow we can do it if we really take our time to learn it.

Society itself is a cesspool of conformities. Most teenagers act out to create a independent person out of themselves. This can be seen as ungrateful. How others see us as a whole is how we project ourselves. So the stereotype is stupid, ignorant and stubborn. I hate stereotypes of all kinds, most/all were established 20-or a lot years ago, the ones who fall into such categories are less than a percentage of the entire "race"*. As a teenager I am to be expected to graduate, follow the rules, and do my best. After highschool I am to be a example of a citizen for the next generation. Contribute to the economy* the best way I can.
Also a stereotype of a teenager is that they are whiny. Here's a tip to those whom have been called that EVER! Most situations you can be content if you mutter these words. "it could be worst"

The one major thing that society expects us to conform to is what everyone else is doing. Whenever the time, wherever the place, there is always new styles of clothes, new looks, and and differnt behaviors. The place that this usually happens is in school. For most people, the thing to do is to always follow what the popular people are doing. So our society is conforming to act, or look or dress like others around you. Its kind of expected, sort of, in society because, if you try to be different or act differntly then you will be viewed as "un cool". In my opinion, its ok to once and awhile to try something differnt for a change to mix it up a little, instead of always following the crowd.
Clare Pathe
Teenagers are defiantly expected to conform into a certain way. Girls are basically expected to be extemely mature and dress in certain styles. They also are supposed to act a certain way. Girls who are different often become outsiders and made fun of. With guys, its the same way. The movies always make guys seem like they must act certain ways and be tough. People think lower of guys who cry and stuff. It is so stupid how there are so many details that girls and guys are supposed to be like. Its like teenagers arent supposed to be different and act different from each other.

I think that society expects us to conform to a lot of rules they have set. I think one of the major things society holds us up to is college. Now a days if you don't attend college is is frowned upon. But when our parents were growing up it was not that uncommon for people to skip college. I also think school expects us to follow their rules instead of letting us choose our own path. They want us to learn but what they don't know is each kid learns different and they should be flexible. As far as my own life, I think my parents have given me pretty fair rules. I never feel like I have to conform to what they think, because they always taught me to hold my own opinion.
I personally feel that now in our generation or decade societies expectations of behavior are high. I in thinngs such as school or sports, we are at a high level or expectations do commit ourselves in giving 110% at everything possible and to work hard. Even things such as family contain expectations of standards. Personaly some of my standards that are to be met as a Risi are things such as being a pollite and friendly child. Succeed in school by giving it my all and getting good grades. One other large category in which standards are to be met are sports. My mom and dad are willing to put forth the money for sports for me and my brother so that we will go out and give it our all and have fun. Standards are all over the place in our society and are expected top be met by all and mainly us young adults to prepare us for the future. Conner risi
Well Mr. Kay
Today our society expects up to be stupid little kids. I dont think that is fair. When you were a kid it would be a go have a fun time. For us it is you have to do this and you have to do that. Another thing is "We are the future." What people who are thirdy are going to die when I am 18. When older people say that they are scared of what us kids will do. I think that it is a load of crap.
I think that we have a lot of future responseibiltes. We have our whole lifes. The one thing that I think that is getting me is that we have to be better then our parents. I dont think that it is not nessicarly true. I think that we can be like our parents. I dont see how it is a bad thing. I like my mom. She is my hero. She loves her kids. She works really hard. I have the most respect.
In society we are expected to do our best and conform. In school we have a choice to pass or fail. I may think school can be hard but its manageable. Society expects us to get an education and get a job. We are pushed harder than before but its for a reason. Kids have a lot more stress than normal and it can take a toll. If we manage to pass we get rewarded with things we want. We will continue to conform how society wants and it will not change.
To what extent do you think society expects you to conform today? Explain with specific examples to community, school, your own life.
I don't think society wants us to conform that much in todays world. I high school there are so many different types of people that it would be hard to conform everyone. There would be no possible way to get everyone to be like each other. Like if they asked me to be a nerd and only care about school and nnothing else, i wouldn't be able to do that. I don't think anyone could do that. Everyone is so different in todays world that the only way they would get people to conform would be to use violance. They could also give money to people to conform cuz everyone needs money to live. But i think any other way wouldn't work. In todays society i don't think they want anyone to conform.
Children today are expected to behave better than kids in the past. The consequences for bad behavior has gotten more intense as the years go on. People often assume that because we are teenagers we are trouble makers. Also the expectation for getting good grades has risen. For instance the class of 2012 is expected to take 3 years of foreign languages rather then the 2 the class of 2011 are expected to take. My parents and colleges are expecting better grade point averages than before. My mom got C's in high school and now she expects me to get A's and B's. Colleges expectations have risen alot and it is harder and harder to be enrolled.

I'd say were living in a silent Salem. Of course not to the harsh degrees of Salem but similar ideals. In every aspect of our life were expected to conform. If we don't, we wont be prosecuted or hung just simply cast aside. Were expected to conform to our communities. The vast majority of us live in the same pale and dull colored houses. At school you conform to those around you. Dress, speak, and act like them. it's just in our nature to conform. everyone yearns for exception, no matter how many times they say they don't care what others think of them. were expected to conform in every aspect of out life and we don't always do that. But its very fortunate for us not to be living in the 17th century.
The society expects us to conform to certain groups in society by what they think we should be. No matter how much the teenagers try, there isn't a chance of us getting a decent job to earn a living.
As observed lately, a lot of teens in this generation have had sex more than their parents have had in a lifetime. Most of the young athletes that get wasted every weekend will be fathering two children while in their senior year whilst not having a steady paycheck.
As far as living up to life's expectations, the children of 1993/1992 are doing a terrible attempt at it. And not only is society trying to drink up our money we can barely keep because they take out 3/4 of it. >:( No wonder Americans are becoming the mass minority in our own country.

I think society expects us to adapt with the horrible economy and yet still strive. I thnk times right now are difficult to be successful in. I think our generation could be called lazy and confused. Times are only getting harder to even have a descent live stlye, and with technology advancing and creating things never thought could exsist are happening. I hear it all the time from teachers who talk about how lucky we are we have computers to use, and theres even more technologies that make life easier now. Some of our generation is clueless about the future and how some of them are going to end up living on the streets. With all these usefull tools, you still need to work hard, you cant just expect everything to work out.

as teens in society there are things that we are held accountable for. the first is that we are expected to all we can be and nothing else, but adults don't see how hard it is to some of us. like in school there is the grade system. some kids are very smart and get a 4.0. then for others parents who have not as a good grade as the other so they start to nag at the to better even if they can't. in community we are expected to not break into houses and do drugs but all the fun stuff to do we can't do because it is agents the law. one of those things is like on private roads we can't ride go-karts,quads and etc...another thing is we cant play paint ball even in trails.
I think their are many things that society holds us to. I think that society shows an image that we need to act a certain way and follow certain rules. I think that Society has unrealistic expectations for conformity. An example in a community would be that they all want us to live by all the same laws and rules. We are all governed the same. At school we are all expected to follow the rules but also do your best so we can graduate. In my own life i think conformity exists in families. That if one family member does something great or extravagant it seems that everyone else after them will be held to the same standards.

I think no matter where you are at you are expected to conform and perform at your highest. Everybody expects you to be like everyody else and not be any different. We are expected to work hard, do the work perfectly, and not do anything wrong. By performing at our highest we must put forth effort so that we succeed. I no when I play football my parents expect me to do the best I can. They didnt pay money to just sit and watch me suck it up on the field. No matter where your from or where you are at you are expected to do everything perfect and be like everybody else.

peoplee now and back when my parents were young all have the same basic principles. we all know that its wrong to walk down the street and shoot innocent people. in the classroom, we are expected to apply ourselfs above and beyond our knowledge, and not to cheat. In the environment, i wouldnt toss crap out my window of my car. but back to the school idea, back in the day of my parents it wasnt uncommon to not go to college, and still have a well paying job. But now its hard to do that and have a family supporting job. everyone should conform to atleast a small extent and apply their ability, everyone can do great things if they put their mind to it. in any society their are standards each person should be meetting to do well in the future, but the i dnt know how to say it uuhh...older peoplee should know its going to take each person differnt paces to show what they have as a person.

What I feel that society is expected from us is that we will follow with others do. Such as, new trends, looks, personality and that could be good or bad. I think that most teenagers now a days are afraid to actually be themselves. They're afraid that they wont be good enough, if they do so. They're willing to change them, what makes them different from everyone else, just to be liked. Occasionally, my parents expect to much from me, they think I can accomplish so much with little time, but sometimes I just need a break. I too, work just as hard as them. With school, poms, homework and DECA, I don't have much free time during the weeks. They don't understand, just like our society. Our Society just assumes were all bad kids. Which is wrong, were good. Just a few little incidents, and were being questioned? Things have changed since they were our age, it's about time they should realize that.

I think that society does very much want us to conform to it today. The extent is differnt on where you are and who are, but the extant is high. For example we are exepted to go to school and to listen to our parents. We have little choice in the matters, but if we chose not to there is bad things happen. At school you are to raise your hand and do what the teachers say to do. At my house if i dont do my homework i cant do anyhting with my freind or have free time to myself. Society today has high standards for people and it will aloows be like that at least in the US.

in their Puritan society everone was suppossed to be "pure". however, so far that we have read they are completly opposite of what they say they are. to make it in this world now you have to get better and better. our generation is going to be totally different than how it used to be. education standards are set higher and foriegn competition has risen. you are more useful if you have a background with technology since our world is changing. there are few jobs available and they usually pick the well-educated people first. this means i have to make sure i do good in school, make it into a good college, and prepare for a good job. its going to take some work but i know i can do it.
I think that people think we shouldn't conform that much. One reason i say this is because of the way today's economy is going. By this i mean if we just go with the flow it is going to be a new great depression but a whole lot worse. Another thing is in school there are a lot of bad things going on. For example drugs, alcohol and theft have been going on lately and why should people want everyone doing that. Plus it seem more and more people are trying in school and not caring sometimes because of what i just said. A different thing is if we conform to all the war stuff, not that i am saying war is totally bad but eventually we will regret it and something bad will happen. Last if everyone were to conform to wasting so much money on random things it won't help with the economy.
Ty Bouwens, 6th hour
I think there is an enormous deal of pressure to conform to society today. For one thing, all the liberals want everyone to have the same opinions about the environment and welfare as they do. Especially the environment. I think global warming is a joke (I won't get into to explaining if you want to know as me later), but idiots like Al Gore want us to stop using pollutant things while he zips around in his little private jet! What is up with that? Also, I think people are pressured into conformity in everyday society through other people. They want to be popular or want to be like their idol. Anyways, there are high expectations when it comes to conformity in today's society.
I think society wants everything to be perfect. It also wants people to do the same and not be difrent. When ever people are difrent or do bad in school they are made fun of. Like if someone has below a 2.5 they may be laughed at. People make fun of other people for playing a difrent video game witch is stupid. Theres also if someoen isnt wearing the "cool" clothing they could get picked on. Overall its just stupid in my opinon.

Society expects us to conform to a pretty low standard. America in general has low expectations of the teenage population. Many people are amazed and think that I am such a good teenager when they hear that I don't drink, smoke, do any other drugs, or swear. Honestly, though, I think that this is undermining our generation. Why is it that society keeps lowering their standards for us? I feel like those of us who are actually working hard are praised a little too much, and begin to slack. I know that I've had my days where I just don't feel like studying because I know that I can still get a higher grade on my test than a good majority of the rest of the class. Because society has set such a low standard for us to follow, we have to make our own set of standards. I don't want to be known as a good kid just because I don't do bad stuff. I want to be known for areas of my life that I am continuously working at lke my grades, athletics, and etc. I set high standards for myself because I know that if I want to succeed in life, it's what I have to do. My parents help, becuase they set very high expectations for me already. When it comes to me making a choice, though, it is ultimately up to me to put my best effort into everything to do well.

In life we all have some kind of standards. I mean, not like they used to though. Back then everybody was so uptight. Now we go with the idea of freedom of choice. For example in the community you are not judged by religion or how you dress. You are not pressuerd to get good grades, unless by your parents. Also, in my life these days everything is so much more laid back and "chill". Everybody goes about their buisness today.

Mr. Kay,
As a kid, I am looked at as the future of the society, so I have pretty strict aspects to conform to. Though I don't exactly conform to said strict aspects, I and others in my age group may be said to be rebellious. See, I am not a very resistant to things in society, but sometimes I want to do what I want to do. Maybe when I am older, I don't want to be the one working for the country or even a local area, but I do want to do what I want to do, and I don't want to be be accused of wrong doing because I don't want to work for annoying people. So, I guess I am not saying I am really expected to conform, but we're frowned upon for doing this. It sort of makes you guilty if you don't do what society expects, so some might end up doing it anyways. Society acts as if your not going along with something, then your going to be the society wrecker. A time in school in which we need to adhere to certain standards is like how if we don't do perfect in school, you might look like a failure to some expecting much of "the future of society." What I am trying to make a point about is sometimes society sort of expects us to stay in line and be all the same people in business suits but we cant be all be like that, and for that we are looked at like horrible stupid kids.

Society puts a lot of pressure on people to conform. Teachers expect everyone to understand and remember stuff. Parents expect the best behavior and perfect grades. The media is especially hard to deal with and contradicts everyone else. They say that partying and drinking is just fine. They also expect girls to be stick thin and cake tons of makeup on their faces. Yeah, so society pushes people to act a certain way and its a lot of pressure.
Society has standards to live up to today, but its not anything like in those ages. Back than you had to believe in God and the bible was taught dailey. Now days ther is no religion in school, or anywhere. I think this is okay since religion isnt forced apon, but others think its bad. In school they expect kids and teens to graduate, go to college, and get a good job. I think you do the best to your ability and take things as far as you want. Im really freakin glad things are different now, but some expectations of society today are just overrated.

I think that society pressure to individuals to have a belief. People may want other people to beleive in something. Society wants people to have some sort of belief. If you have no opinion than you are not noticed. Society wants you to believe in something but to a extent that is controled. People don't want to hear somthing, if they are to into of what they belive in. People just want some feeling that they belong to something.

I think society expects us to go to school and learn and listen to older people. In the communitee i believe society expects us to respect the laws and authority. I think that these are pretty good expectations because it's resonable and pretty easy to do. I think that we are pretty much forced to go to school but thats because grown ups want us to learn and be successful in life. We are expected to get good grades and try our hardest. We really don't have any freedom when it comes to school. Teachers expect you to study and pay attention no matter what. I think that we should be expected to try our best but some people just can't get good grades and it's not always their fault.
Teenagers these days at least the ones in my life have a lot of expectations. Parents pressure kids to get good grades and sometimes if you do bad on something there's a punishment. In the community there's not as high of standards. Compared to the puritan society we are very laid back these days. As a community all you have to do is be a good citizen and follow the laws. Also unlike back then people aren't forced to attended church. And you also can pick your religion you don't have to have the same one as everyone else.

In todays world, teenagers have high expectations. Most of these come from our parents or family. My parents are always have always pushed me to do good in school and do my best. In my life, my family expects me to succeed in life. My parents have always stressed to me the importance of getting a good education. Nowadays, you can't get a stable job without at least a two-year degree. I think society expects us to conform to the latest trends or fads going around. One example of this would be the Ugg Boots. Every girl you see is wearing Ugg boots because it is the latest trend going around.

Mr kay,
I think society is so overly obsessed with perfection that it's stupid.
You have to get good grades, you have to wear the expensive stupid clothes, you have to be absolutely perfect or else you get made fun of.
If you dress differently or like different than the other people then you get made fun of.
People make fun of me all the time but I'm to the point where I just don't care.
How dare I look different right?
hahah yeah.
Sorry I haven't blogged all week. My internet is out and I'm using my phone right now. I'll make up the blogs when my internet works again.
today i believe is way differnt than the puritan society's way back then. today i think our standards and conduct are way more leaniant. with that being said i still think there is some pressure to conform to society. In a communtiy or school you might be pressured to buy certain clothes or hangout with a certain group of kids. in comparison to the puritan society, we have way more diversity and things that might not have been acceptable back then would be accepted now a days. like the salem witch trials would never fly today, people would think thats rediculous. i also dont think church plays as big of a role now, society seems to have more of a 'if its what i want to do it must be ok' attitude.

I think that society pressured individuals to do what ever you wont as long as they follow the law. It is our rights a U.S. citizen to do what ever you wont as long as you fallow the law. I am able to do what ever I wont as long as I fallow the rules of my parents. But there are groups of people that wont you to do what they wont. Like a mafia or gangs. Today’s society is defiantly better that the ones in Salem.
