Our moon, it floats in the sky at night, it pushes water around, and is a giant night light in the middle of the night. But have we ever found anything useful on it? Yes, on November 13 NASA launched the Lcross mission to the moon. this missions' purpose was to find water within the moon. Yes, far Fetched it might sound since we have been there many times before and only found rock, but latest study show that at the poles of the moon are ice caps made of carbon. since the mission has started they have found at least 26 gallons of water. this new information has made the moon a possible suspect for containing life sense life need water, there could be bacteria the can live in extreme conditions that could with stand the cold at night or the heat in the day. some scientist also say this could help sustain life on the moon for a NASA base. this is what i have found this week for my current event in the science category.

Noah Biorkman's story is a tragic one. Many people around the world have been sending him letters saying "Get well soon!" and "God bless you!" Noah was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in February of 2007. Neuroblastoma is the cancer of the nervous system. Ever since his school has tried to get people to send noah gifts, He has recieved over 15 million cards showing support. This has affected our community greatly. Many people, such as myself have sent cards to Noah. We wish him good luck and hope he recovers quickly.
The store Costco has stoped carrying Coca-Cola products. This dilemma was caused because of the price and profit of Coke. This effects me and my family because we shop at costco a lot. Most of the food we get comes from there. This takes our time away from us when we have to go to different stores. It also takes away our money because of the gas we use. Another thing wrong is that now the other stores coud put their price of coke up because the consumers will have to get it from them. Coke should become more efficient and not have to use as much money makeing it. If they do the they can lower the price, get more profit over all, and they can sell it to Costco again.
According to the United Health Foundation, Vermont is the healthiest state in the US. The others are Utah, Massachusetts, Hawaii, and new Hampshire. These states set such a good example for the rest of the nation. I think that the rest of the nation should follow their lead and create healthier lifestyles for themselves. People would be happier, live longer, and I just think that things would be more successful within the state. Every one of us needs to have self motivation to be healthy. Although if you need a great example to follow, look to Vermont.
china and the united states, the largest producers of greenhouse gasses are teaming up to create clean energy, and fight climate change. Chinese President Hu Jintao and Obama said their nations will cooperate to advance technologies and work toward a global agreement on reducing carbon emissions. This will affect anybody who lives on earth. It will also potentially save species of animals if successful, like poler bears. But it will cost lots of money and time, but could pay for itself. Like how wind farms cost alot when your building them, but next to nothing when there working. Who noes, this could save the earth.
The other day, it is said that Duane Reasoner Jr. dined with the accused shooter of Fort Hood, Nidal Malik Hasan. The Fort Hood incident greatly affects my community and society. First of all, this totally regards the whole American constitution. It is not illegal to talk about other countries because we have the freedom of speech. The shooter of Fort Hood took the law into his own hands and that is against the law. People can now think that they can enforce the law and take matters into their own hands. Also, many people were killed at Fort Hood and I bet a lot of people knew soldiers that were about to get deployed from there. Now those people are grieving because of what some say a "terrorist attack again".
"Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was ordered to take the stand during his restitution hearing in Wayne County Circuit Court. Judge David Groner asked several specific and personal questions regarding his finances related to his restitution obligation." The Kilpatrick trial has been going on for about a year now. He has lately returned to Detroit for another court hearing. When asked how much his rent is and who pays it, Kilpatrick responded by saying he didn't know how much the rent was on his home in Texas and said he "assumes" his wife Carlita pays the rent. I think that he's "lying through his teeth". He has obliterated th city financially. He also paid just $3,000 of his $6,000 a month restitution payment. It was also made a day late. He just want to lower his restitution payments so he can do anything he wants in Texas. I hope it ends soon.
The article i chose is called "Study: Heart attack patients receive radiation equivalent of 725 chest X-rays." It talks about how to much radiation can increase the risk of developing some cancers but when it comes to diagnosing and treating heart attacks it benifits it. They found that over the last three in a half years 65,000 people have been hospitalized because of heart attacks and radiation could help that. This affects me because my dad has had three heart attacks before and who knows if he will have another one. If he does I wouldn't want him to get the radiation treatment. THe doctors don't really know for sure if the much of radiation really helps. Too much radiation isn't good and I wouldn't want anything to happen to my dad because of it. I think this might affect the community because mostly everyone knows too much radiation can increase the risk for cancer even if you are being treated for heart attacks. I don't think this is a good idea.
Americans are split over whether China represents a military threat to the United States. There is no doubt in the publics mind that the country poses an economic threat according to a new national poll. 51% of the public consider china as a military threat. Another poll was taken to see if china is an economic threat. 71% of the oublic consider china an economic threat. According to the survey two thirds see China as a source of unfair competition for U.S. companies. While only a quarter are more likely to view China as a huge potential market for U.S. goods. sooner or later i think china will be a ruling nation over all within the next 50-75 years maybe less.
"Army suicides set another yearly record." The current event that i chose is about people in the army commiting suicide. This is horrible that people in the army are deciding that they have no better choice but to do this to themselves. I think that this connects to me and my community in a couple different ways. This dramatically affects the families of these soldiers. There are so many people who have sons, brothers, fathers, grandfathers, or even grandmothers, mothers, sisters, or daughters. And im sure that they are all so worried about their family in the army, and when they hear about these types of things, it probably worries them even more. They are already concerned about them going into the army, im sure they don't want to have to worry about their family member committing suicide. Theres already a big enough chance that they might die going to war, and this just makes things way harder.
Recently Obama met with China's leader, Hu Jintao, to discuss the issue of global warming. Obviously, Obama has paid no attention in his year in office to the matter but it is currently being brought up. Obama is attempting to lead immediate action to "rally the world" towards a solution. They still yet need to find a solution for the rising temperatures considering its a 192- nation effort. I believe this relates greatly to my community and to the U.S. because its extremely important to our world. There's no place to hide from global warming. But we can help prevent it. With our contribution to the community to help decrease toxic waste going into our atmosphere/ozone layer. The temperature isn't getting any cooler.
Costco alarms consumers by not selling Coca-Cola. The whole sale club and largest soda company fight over Coca-Cola high prices. The club would like to sell the product for cheaper. However, the Coca-Cola company doesnt think they have an unreasonable price. I think Costco has a good point as looking out for their customers best interests. Times are getting tough for everyone and most people cant afford to have prices of a favorite product like Coca-Cola increasing. If the Coca-Cola company would lower the price of their product to a reasonable price people who stopped buying it would most likely go back to buying it. Coca-Cola is being a bad example for other companies because if all the companies started raising their prices most citizens wouldnt be able to afford much of it anymore. Also, most people would start buying off brands than brand name items. This company is probably losing some of its buyers and has already lost a store from selling their product. Is it really worth it for the companies to raise prices?
Christmas is a big part of America and means a lot to people. It is one of kids favorite time because of santa, most of them look forward to going to the mall and sitting on his lap. That will be harder and harder as swine flu gets passed around more. It is now manditory for the santa workers to get the flu shot and is not recommended for people to even go. With the kids sitting on his lap all day long, it is very possible to spread the disease to the other kids or the santa worker. This is a very big holiday to America and can be devistating to not be able to experience sitting on santas lap. This is a big tradition that sadly could come to a hault.
