More money spent... by the u.s government(obama) he has spent more money already then all of our presidents combine already in his 9 month in office. before i start with the current event i would like to say that since obama is a democrat he believes that money can buy our way out of everything so he has already dumped billions upon billions of dollars. this week i will be talking about how Obama dumped $3.4B toward a 'smart' power grid. after touring the solar fields of west-Florida obama urges the use of this cheap power source. this connect to me because i will be paying for this in my financial future and could become trouble. this also effect the community by the community being my generation, yes we do need the use of these new power sources but he could cut back on more then just the cost of oil. this is the current event i found and decided to evaluate how obama is doing and how he is spending "our" money.

The swine flu vaccine shortage is boosting demand from Americans concerned they won’t get the product in time to hold off the disease, said Thomas Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
There has been an increase for 14 million doeses to 22.4 million doses. This happeneing affects everyone in the U.S. We think that when we go to the doctors we can get healthy. Right now everyone thinks that they are going to get the swine flu so they are getting the vacine. I think right now only the elders and the young should get it. While the needy get the vacine the others should just try not to get sick. If this happens we will all be healthy and happy.

Eight American troops were killed in two separate bomb attacks Tuesday in southern Afghanistan. this is not good because we are having a hard time deciding wether to keep the toops in Afghanistan or pull them out. this would have the people starting to belive that we should pull them them back even though earlyer they were thinking the oppsite. this is making October the deadliest month of the war for U.S. forces since the 2001 invasion to oust the Taliban. this is wrong because all we are doing is trying to help out Afghanstan. why are american troops dying because we are trying to help them? that is what i think of this event.

The article I chose is called "8 U.S. soldiers killed in Afghanistan." It is talking about how October is the deadliest month of the year 2009. There has been 8 deaths this Tuesday, 14 more soldiers died in one day, and 2 troops died on Sunday. That is a total of 24 deaths in one just 36 hour period. I think this is affecting the community becuse we have been fighting for so long and so many people are losing their lives because of it. Obama is still deciding on whether or not to send a lot more troops over there. For what, so we could just have as many more deaths. This affects me because people are losing their lives every day for no reason.

Currently, a student at Arizona State University commited suicide. He took out a hand gun while talking to a professor and shot himself. This affects me because with the pressure of kids on school these days, any of my friends could do this. I truly feel bad for this man's family and friends because they didn't know why he did this. When I read this article, I though of the story of Chris McCandless and how he died in the wild. His parents were distraught and didn't know why this happened. Except for the part that Krakaur didn't think Chris committed suicide, these stories are almost alike. Also, this current event affects the community because with the stress going around from the horrible economy, a lot of people are at risk of this. Hopefully this horrible situation does not happen and families will not have to suffer.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/10/27/player.stabbing/index.html

Currently, people are still talking about a murder at UConn. A 21-year-old man, John Lomax III, was charged with murder Monday in connection with the stabbing death of a University of Connecticut football player this month. This affects my life because hundreds of people are murdered every 5 minutes. The murderers don't care about anyone but themselves. "Howard was stabbed in the abdomen in a fight after a student dance on the school's campus in Storrs", authorities said. "He died at a hospital in Hartford". It's sad that some people would take out their pain on someone else. I would just wish that murders would just cease to exist. Rest in Peace Jasper Howard.

Recently, drugs testing industries have been running behind and it's really starting to take notice. Federal drug officials are being criticized because promises to enforce complete studies of drug testing have been broken. Patients and doctors are starting to fear that the medications they are being given will not be beneficial. This is effecting our community because people are buying drugs that they believe will help them to get better and then being cheated because drug testing companies fail to complete simple studies. This could cause death in some cases and therefore is an urgent matter that must be addressed. Many people are unaware of this matter and don't know the risks that they could be taking. I think an organization should be formed that could inform people on this subject and possibly save lives.

Today Thomas McCloud a 15 year old from Pontiac, MI was convicted with felony murder in the beating to death of 2 homeless men. McCloud was accused in the deaths of Wilford Hamilton and Lee Hoffman. The homeless men both 61 years old. The charges carry a mandatory sentence of life in prison with no chance of parole. A second jury will resume deliberations Wednesday on 15 year old Dontez Tillman who is charged with first degree felony murder in Hamilton's death. We as students about the same age as the 2 boys probibly think how can someone our age do things like this. I was tought guns dont kill people, people kill people. I believe in that 100%.

my article: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091026/ap_on_bi_ge/us_sci_global_cooling

This is an article talking about the topic of global warming. Except its talking about the earth cooling, not warming. Professor John Grego said "If you look at the data and sort of cherry-pick a micro-trend within a bigger trend, that technique is particularly suspect." In this statement I think John Grego is saying that you shouldnt look at the small details and you should look at the big picture. The articale says that since 1998 temperatures have went down, up, down again and are now rising once more. Also the article ios talking about how there never really is an average in the earths temperature, especialy in the past 10 years. John Grego made three charts to show how choosing a starting date can change perceptions. Using the skeptics' satellite data beginning in 1998, there is a "mild downward trend," John Grego said. But doing that is "deceptive." So in general this article is talking about scientific reasearch about the actual rising and falling of the temperatures of earth and that the earth isn't entirely "warming."

I'm going to do this first so i don't forget:
http://www.montrealgazette.com/health/fears+Schools+send+students+home/2151610/story.html

There has recently been many different schools sending hundreds of kids home because of swine flu symptoms. There has been so many kids that have either had to go home from a school day, or their parents keep them home because they are feeling under the weather. The swine flu is going around, and very quickly. This definately has to do with my community because its my peers that are getting this swine flu. There has been atleast one student from every one of my classes gone the past few weeks because of swine or another sickness going around. When one kid at school may have it without even know it, he or she is spreading their germs everywhere causing others to get it. Swine flu is definately not somthing to mess around with, if they suspect it they will send you home because they don't want you to infect anyone else. I know of a few people that have been through it and it is not fun at all.

"The gang rape of a 15-year-old girl on school grounds after homecoming was scary. Even more shocking, police say, was that up to 20 people watched and did nothing to stop it." This happened at Richmond High School in California. Two people are on bail already and there are possibly more to come. Many of the people in the school district have transferred, saying "It isn't safe anymore." This has a huge effect on our society. People, especially us high schoolers, should be more careful and more aware of the situation. Also, if you see some sort of crime happening like this to make the good choice and call the police. The police also say that this girl was drinking before she was attacked. We need to be more responsible to protect our safety and dignity.

H1N1 is sweeping the nation. This virus has spread throughout 46 states, Michigan being one of them. This has already killed more than 100 people including 100 children. This is affecting the way schools opertate, many kids have been out because of this virus shutting down over 200 districts. Our government has taken action and over 120 million doses have been made before October. In society people are very woried about this disease because of how many people are out of work and school, the big concern is when will it hit home. One of my best friends has H1N1 and it's a scary thing do deal with. H1N1 is a rising conflict in the U.S. right now.
