Huge gamma-ray blast spotted 12.2 bln light-years from earth

a massive exposion in space was detected and said by scientists it is the biggest gamma-ray burst ever detected. it was detected from the US space agency's Fermi telescope. it blew up a huge distance away from the earth. scientists figured out that the blast was stronger than 9,000 supernovae. long bursts occur in massive stars that are undergoing collapse. it was goood that this explosion in space wasn't closer to earth. it probably would have destructed our planet and none of us would be here.

So how bad is the depression. in CNN it says that in Detroit people are lining up in soup lines for food now. this depression is like the depression of 1873. until 1929 the people used the word Great Depression
was referring to 1873. but now we are going to refer as the great depression as today. our country seems to not get any better. which i feel is not good at all. some things that have happens is that the stock markets have crashed the wall street is just on a picnic. while whole America suffers from all the mistake of our government and i hope that we can pull our selves out of this perdicament. for there best of everyone and we don't have to sacrifice so much to do it.

With the scarcity of jobs, Obama has called for public service. Organizations such as the Peace Corps and Teach for America has seen an increase of applications due to the poor economy. Teach for America received a record 14,000 applications & the Peace Corps have increased 16% from 2007-2008. The Peace Corps have always interested me and I hope to be able to participate with this group one day. I feel this would be a great opportunity to help others. The two years abroad will bring a lifetime of self-fullfillment. The experience you gain would be invaluable.

This is a depressing time for us now, all the bad economic mistakes made by the last 3 terms have caught up to us...no, they've ran up tackled us and pummeled our faces in! How bad is the economy? Well when historians scratch their head of what they believe to be daja-vu form the great depression, yeah I would say times are bad. All economist and others debate weather it is fair/unfair to call our economic state a "depression" because at the time Gov't wasn't keeping a close eye on the economy.
How do we fix the economy is still a good question. There is no "look for the problem and kill it" answer because unless you have all your bases covered all/most Gov't actions will have a double-sided sword effect. Weather the times become worst or better, will depend on the choices we as a generation we make now.

Today for my current event i wrote about the police officer in Pontiac that shot a man that had a gun. On Thursday night, a man named Juawan Otis, 22, was in his car, and pointed a gun at a police officer. In self defense, the police officer shot at Otis, because they were in danger. The paramedics reported immediatly, and pronounced Otis dead at 4:45am on Friday. His cousins and sister in the car werent injured. This has an effect because if the police officer didnt think quick enough, then he could of been killed. Also, because police always need to save their selves, even if that means killing someone in the process.

On Thursday the Texas financier R. Allen Standford was tracked down in Virgina by the FBI. Stanford was accused by the SEC on Tuesday of committing an $8 billion fraud. This fraud lured in investors with the promises of unrealistic high returns on certificates of deposit. It is not know how much of the $8 billion has been claimed or lost. Standford is not under arrest or placed in custody, and he has yet to be charged of the crime while federal agents continue to investigate the situation. The fraud reached global financial systems, including Venezuela, Mexico, Panama, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador. Standford has a personal fortune of $2.2 billion dollars, and is 58 years old. It has an affect on these countries because the economy has suffered enough, and this fraud has undoubtedly made it worse. I think that it is very greedy for him to trick people into getting more money for himself, considering that he is already an multi-billionaire.

General Motors Swedish-based subsidiary, Saab filed for bankruptcy today. This move is a final effort to get Saab in order for sale. This could be the beginning of a domino effect. Many other car companies could possibly go down with it. The Saab could potentially bring down GM and Chrysler. Then the third car company would be Ford and there would no longer be a Detroit 3. Stock prices today for Ford and other companies dropped to an alltime low. For dropped a dollar the minute this happened. Many people are deciding to change professions because of this because they think they see an end. Moving to other countries is a possibility which would hurt our economy even more. This event today could lead to many more terrible things.

A mom robs a bank for dippers. She said she had nothing left to lose when she handed the bank teller the hastily scrawled note. Moments later, the woman and her male accomplice raced from the bank, jumped in their car and sped off with $10,000 in cash. Smith told CNN she was going through a bad divorce and that robbing a bank "made me feel like I was in control again." She is one of a growing number of female bank robbers, a crime normally committed by men. Nationwide, 6.2 percent of all bank heists today are committed by women. That's up from 4.9 percent in 2002 a 25 percent increase, according to the most recent FBI crime statistics.

Mr. Kay,
Today on CNN, I read a story of about one of the bravest people I have ever seen. It was a man named Weusi Olusola. He is am man who was shot in a drive-by and survived. He has also been recently diagnosed with cancer and he believes that he tries to work through it, he will live. They only gave him a couple months to live, but he knows he can make it. I don't think this is anything that will affect me physically, but it is inspirational. Hope is one of the most important things in ones life. Its sort of like the Placebo affect. If you think somethings helping you to do something, you will do better, because of the hope. Maybe he will pull though because of his hope. He just wants to live, and if he believes he can, he will sort of trick himself into living. I think everyone should be as hopeful as this man. People need to understand that putting themselves down and diminishing confidence will actually hurt you more than you expected. This is what I think of confidence and Weusi Olusola.

The current event that i'm going to write about is the feds cutting water to California farms. The managers said that they have to cut off all the water off to some of the largests farms as a result of drought affecting the state. U.S Bureau of Reclamation officals said that it would be the first time in 15 years that they would have to cut surface water and deliveries completely. Also, this will hurt farmers by the rise of crops if they have to rely on well water. The state estimates it would cause $1 billion in lost revenue and cost 40,000 jobs. This could cause consumer prices to rise. This would hurt people and the US economy even more by the large loss of jobs.

My event is about a US soilder that is found guilty for murdering 4 Iraqis. They say the soilders murdered the Iragis in a execution-style and but the defence is saying that they did not have much sleep and could not reason right. I think this going to far on both sides, the soilders never should have kiled them, but they attacked and tryed to kill them that day but where released because of lack of evidence. It hard when you have heard the case in court and all the edvience, but the Iraqis should not have been released is waht i think. It shows just how much pressure the soilders are under and how what they see as karma. This happened in the spring of 2007 and at least they didn't rush though the case, but is that too long for people still to have the right memeroy of out happened. Without being there and see what happened and being in both sides shoes, i cant choose a side without being unfair and i dont think a jury should either.

Apparently robbing banks is no longer just for guys. A female robbed a bank and raced out with $10,000 cash. Cnn reporters said that the women calmly handed the teller a note that said " Were armed. Dont say anything, just give us all the money." Reporters said that the women said " It felt powerful, and exciting, and quick." I think it is horrible that the world has come down to this. Your life must be pretty bad just to decide one day that your gonna rob a bank. Reporters said the women who committed the crime was going through an awful divorce and that it made her feel in control again. I dont think that times are bad enough to where people need to rob banks but I guess thats what it has come down to. Jane smith, the robber, said that it is difficult trying to rebuild your life after serving 5 years in a maximum security prison. I think she deserves more time in prison. If a man comitted this robbery, he would probably gotten 15 years.

The mom had no clue how the women could have eight at once. Also, the octuplet woman had no job and was single. To raise them alone and with no means of support would seem impossible. Mr.Kay,
today I'm going to write about synesthesa. I read an article on the cnn website about this certain diagnosis. The people who have this experience numbers and colors when listening to sounds. The article said that only about 1 percent of people have this. In my opinion I think this would be very scary to have. But at the same time maybe a little cool. I only say that because it might be exciteing to see colors when you listen to music. My only question for this is do they still hear the music when they have this. Or do they liteally only see color/

Zachary Johnston, who was only seventeen, was an athelete for the school and was found dead on the gym's running track. The autopsy has not yet been performed(says the article), and they are researching the possible causes of Zachary's death.

I think that it effects me in a pyschological way. I mean, DANG! A KID DIED NEAR ME AGAIN! D8 When I lived in Whitmore Lake, a girl died of a heart attack on the track field. It was during a required mile run, and she was D.O.A(dead on arrival)at the hospital. I always freak out when crazy things happen near me. D8

On CNN.com I was lost on what to write about when I came across an article talking about a new tax the government is talking about enforcing. They say they are going to build a solar GPS and track cars from GPS's in their cars and track their milage. The more miles they drive the more they would be taxed, because the more wear and tear they do to streets and bridges. But, they say in this article that they don't think the Obama administration would be for this tax. Personally, I think that this tax would not be good for our country. The amount of money that we would have to use to build this solar GPS system would be huge and in the current economic resession I don't think that's the best thing to do. It also says in the article that they need to get more money for roads because the gas taxes and prices aren't as high so they don't get as much money from that for road repairs. And if we got taxed for how much we drove, not as many people would drive and go to stores to buy things and the economy could get worse and worse. Just as a whole I don't think that this would be a good idea for our country considering the economy.

With the economy getting worse and worse a nonprofit group fed 5000 people who had been laid off in Ohio. In the small town of Wilmington about 3000 of the 8000 people in the town are unemployed. A nonprofit group called Feed the Children helped many families just get by day to day. This reminds me of the soup lines that took place during the great depression. I now wonder how bad the economy will get and when we will get out of this terrible mess. I think it is great that people are trying there best to help those who need it. But I am worried how much closer to home this terrible economy crisis will hit. If the automobile companies keep worsening areas around Michigan will get hit very hard.

My current event is on the Chris Brown, Rihanna situation. Sopposedly Rihanna was attacked by her boyfriend, singer Chris Brown. They were on the street before the two were going to perform at the Grammys on February 8.
"The unauthorized release of a domestic violence photograph immediately generated an internal investigation,". an L.A. police spokesman said in a statement. The Los Angeles Police Department takes domestic violence very serious. They say it is their duty to maintain the confidentiality of victims of domestic violence. Commiting Domestic violence is considered a serious misconduct, and will problly lead to Chris Brown being thrown in Jail and being fined. Personally i don't believe Chris Brown would do this. He is only like 19 or 18 years old i don't think he would hit someone olde than him and a girl for that matter. He also wouldn't hit someone that u know would get out cuz all of her publicity. If he did hit her he is really stupid for thinking he could get away with it.

Ironically, Scott Siegel, the actor from the movie "The Wrestler" who deals steriods in the movie, ahs been arrested. The ironic part is that he was arrested in real life for dealing steroids. Apparently, he was involved in a high speed cop chase on Wednesday in New York. He was charged on accounts of dealing drugs and assaulting a a police offer after he intentionally tried to hit several police vehicles and even a cop on foot. After searching his house they found almost $70,000 and in a tounhouse owned by his parents the police found about $1500 bottles with steroids in them. They also found another $30,000 there. Mr. Kay,

Today I am going to write about the woman that has 8 kids recently. First of all, she already has 6 kids of her own before these eight children were born. She had 8 fertilized eggs put into her for birth. This is a major example of bad decision making. SOme people in our country and in this world are really dumb and cant think for themselves. She had these babies while not even having a job to keep these kids in a helathy enviornment to live. Even worse, she is a single mom. So all of US are paying for these 14 kids to be taken care of because the mom is a dumb ass person. If you are going to have children, you should have a stable income and be able to have your kids look up to you. And if you make stupid decisions like this, they wont want to be anything like you. I just think that it is rediculous that a person would make this decision.

In the article, No Confidence: Dow Closes At Six-Year Low, I learned about realizations of how long it is going to take for the economic situation to improve. Obama said that turning the economy around would not be easy or quick, and the stock market reflects that. The Dow Jones Industrial lost nearly 90 points today and 800 points since the Obama administration announced major reforms on February 10. Treasury Secretary announced major reform to the banking system that would infuse up to $2 trillion in order to try to rescue the nation’s banks. Also, in Denver on Tuesday, Obama signed $787 billion stimulus plan into law. He is now pushing for another $275 billion mortgage rescue plan that is designed to help up to 9 million homeowners stay in their homes and at least 3 million to avoid foreclosure. Despite all of the efforts by our government, investors are still not convinced that these programs are going to work though.
It amazes me about all of the money being put into our economy in order to get it back up and running. Even if this money does help us now, though, we are still going to have to pay off the billions upon trillions of dollars being spent. When this much money is being put into the economy and people are still not confident about the future, you can tell that we are in for some tough times.

They were a group of poeple who travel with there livestock and move from place to place. Investigators found weapons and ammunition at the site, but found that 13 civilians were killed along with three militants. Im surprise that they couldn't get them in a more effecent way instead of bombing everything and killing people. This "celebration" takes place on Fat Tuesday and the last Thursday. The countdown starts in Hamtramck from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Many bakers are getting ready for the bake off. These are traditional polish doughnuts. Deep fried dough cooked to perfection and stuffed with your favorite fillings. this tradition was started so they could use up all of the lard, sugar, eggs and different fruits in the house. Why you ask? These things were given up for lent and they turned them into delicious treats. And each of these delights are 420 calories each!

However, people aren't liking what it is doing. Plus facebook was ment for the college crowd of people but now anyone can use it and people think it isn'tright that young kids re doig it. I agree wih that not everyone should be allowed to do it but think that older people like parents shouldn't have facebook because that tome just isn't right. Also, on top of being a single mother she also has no job. The parents of the 18 children has already experienced this situation and are well aware is to what is going to happen. The mother of the octuplets I believe is not considering what is going to happen as the children get older. Such as, schooling, health care, dental service, food, shelter and other activities the children intend to do. She thinks that the government is going to be willing to give her money and that will make up for the expenses. I on the other hand do not think this is very true. This article was on how a teen died at Avondale High school. A 17 year old student died after his wrestling practice. Zachary Johnston died on friday, feb 20th. I think wrestling is something that puts a lot of stress on students. It seems like it leads many students to starving themself so they can make a certain weight. Doing this will cause severe medical problems. It also isnt something that is healthy to do to your body. I hope that this wasnt the case for Zack. An autopsy is taking place and will determine that cause of his death. This should be a heads up to other wrestlers. People should make sure they do sports the right way, and the smart way.

I know this was on wrestling, which is a sport. But its an event in our area. Its a death of an innocent student. Its very possible that the sport could of led to his death.

Im going to write about 3 teens fatally shot on Chicago's South Side. The shooting occured on friday night about a block from Immaculate Conception School. The police are still not sure whether or not the victims went to the school. The teens were attacked by a group of people and shot with an assault rifle. The victims were 13, 15, and 17 years old. The identities have not been released yet. I wrote about this because we need to do something about all of the violence in our country. People also shouldn't be allowed to just buy assault rifles. Something needs to be done about this and the police need to step up to prevent this.

Swiss court blocks bank data sharing with US: report

The fact that Swiss banks are to keep their clients' accounts secret has been attracting millions, billions of money from foreign countries. However the thing is that the money flooding into Swiss banks is not clean, but 'black' money of criminals, or usurpated, which are gained through unlawful process. For that reason, there'd been many requests to offer the accounts to public, and therefore, this news, the Swiss court barred for Swiss banks to inform the clients' account, is not something very rare or unique. Even it's so, I wanted to discuss this news because it's really sensitive problem and issue as to the attitude as living in a global world. Switzerland is a neutral coutry, and they are not being part of any organization, such as EU. However is that a right thing to do and better thing, to be excluded from the world only to earn more money, is my question. Switzerland gives hard time to people who want to gain Swiss nationality. Swiss banks earn money through a mean being criticized in many ways. Swiss know that the isolation is not a clever way of living, even though, they're afraid of being changed. Standing water spoils. The cause of Communism countries' collapses is not only the domestic system but the isolation with no circulation through the world.

After a string of costly bailouts and stimulus measures obama said he will cut annual deficit at least in half. This will happen by the end of his term. The reduction would be largely iraq troopwithdrawls. Also would be higher taxes on the wealthy. Obama will realse his budget out line on thurseday. He will also confirm his promises on health care. Also on energy policy.

The current event that I chose was a guy's bungee cord snapping on a 400 foot jump. He was bungee jumping with his friends and had already taken his first jump. It was a lot of fun and he decided to go again. When he was about 25 feet from the water the cord snapped and he fell the rest of the way. He didn't think that he was injured so he started crawling out of the water while his friends called 911. He went to the emergency room and he was fine, just a little bit sore. No accidents had ever happened at that popular destination before this so it shows that bad things can happen and people really need to be smart. It is a good lesson for people to learn and this guy is really lucky to be alive and able to walk.

US finds 13 civilians died in Afghanistan strike.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090221/ap_on_re_as/as_afghanistan

Recently in Afghanistan 13 innocent civilians were killed in a strike. The US military stated they killed 15 militants on Tuesday, this was a coverup. Afghan officials said six women and two children were among the dead, casting doubt on the U.S. claim. I think that if people and governement officials want to use war to solve issues, they need to think for the civilians. Its stupid that those innocent people were killed just for being in the wrong spot at the wrong time. If you are going to attack and kill watch of surrounding innocent people, or dont do it at all. If this were to happen in America things would turn ugly real fast, so I dont understand why its not that known and considered that big of a problem. Just becasue it happened in a country we have issues with doesnt mean those people deserved to die and we should roll it off our shoulders.

Im going to fllow up on robs blog. I agree, Not only is Detroit having troubles but the rest of the US too. The economy is in recession and were trying to skip the depression phase. Its imperative to skip this awful phase because it can ruin our nation. It would destroy us for a long time. A depression is not something a nation can get out of easily. Its a long process that involves pain and suffering.

In the Detroit Free Press I had read an article saying that public schools won’t have to absorb a $59-per-pupil cut in state aid. Thanks to the federal stimulus that will hand Michigan billons of dollars over the next two years. The local districts, through the stimulus, will not see a reduction in the per-pupil foundation grant. The Gov. warned school districts to tighten belts because the federal windfall won’t be available two years from now. By then, the state School Aid Fund will be short of cash unless schools cut spending, or the state reduces payment to schools.
Now this is stupid if we want schools that have good equipment and paid teachers we need money. We can’t afford to reduce money to schools. For a successful education system you need money so you have new tools and well paid teachers.

Once again when i looked on CNN, i saw more things about the economy. It sucks and we all know that. But now we are looking for a way to boost our economy out of recession/depression. This is something that our president will have to be able to do, and we need it done fast. I tihnk that he will do a good job and we will evnetually come out of it becauxse history repeats itself. It think that it is just a matter of time beofre we have another prsperous economy. I tihnk that everyone will have to fight to get through but once we do it will b rewarding.

Our economy is in a deep recession and it is evident its effecting everyone. Some areas are worse than others but its everywhere. In this article it says that it is even effecting the beverly hills area. The bentleys still roam the street but americas most famous zip code is slowing down. The stores are shutting down and the stores that are still open have discount signs all over them. Its sad to see the world in a recession because I think everyone is more stressed and tense. I hope that this will end soon.

in the last 3 days before the actual date of this blog, Barack Obama:

"Has encourage new lending by effectively subsidizing the profits. *Feb. 19, 2009*"

Pretty much this boils down to the cold hard fact that Investors and economists said that the effort could help restore some lending, but added that it might not be big enough to fully replace all or most of what has been lost, especially if the nation’s biggest banks are not restored to health.

"Had banned four accounting gimmicks that President George W. Bush used to make deficit projections look smaller. *Feb. 19, 2009*"

in essence, Obama is not counting the revenues of the alternate minimum tax, and he is adding $218 billion to the 10-year deficit projections to reflect the added interest the government would pay for its extra debt.

"He went to Canada to ease tensions over trade policy, climate change and the war in Afghanistan. *Feb. 19, 2009*"

Shortly said, President Obama charted a delicate course with Canada on Thursday, using the first foreign trip of his presidency to ease tensions over trade policy, climate change and the war in Afghanistan — all the while basking in his celebrity status in a nation where his approval ratings are so high that a local bakery named a pastry after him.

"Let homeowners refinance their mortgages or avert foreclosure. *Feb. 18, 2009*"

Of three of the components, The first would help homeowners who are still current on their payments, but who are paying high interest rates and cannot refinance because they do not have enough equity in their homes, a problem afflicting growing numbers of people as housing values tumble. this is the biggest problem most people are facing

"Has negotiated with Canada to help limiting their Nafta message *Feb. 18, 2009*"

Pretty much, When Canada and the European Union hesitated over the “Buy America” language, the Obama White House pushed back at Democrats in Congress, demanding that lawmakers soften the requirement with language that says it must be “applied in a manner consistent with U.S. obligations under international trade agreements.”

"said he would send an additional 17,000 American troops to Afghanistan, to help a war going in the wrong direction. *Feb. 17, 2009*"

simply Put, president Obama’s plan, a unit of 8,000 marines from Camp Lejeune, N.C., will be deployed in the next few weeks, aiming to be in Afghanistan by late spring, administration officials said, while an Army brigade from Fort Lewis, Wash., composed of 4,000 soldiers, will be sent in the summer.

now, as i can see, he is going in the right direction by sending this nation on the road to recovery.

For my current event i will be talking about the driving tests that are taken over in South Korea. Compared to the driving test here in america south korean tests are more complex and deficult. This shows after reading about the 68 year whom has failed over 775 driving tests in the past four years. She enrolls in the test about three times a week and never at all is succesful. She has also spent around $7,000 dollars in trying to complete this. this shows that either personally she is a bad drives or they are just tough cookies over there. After listening, i learned that it takes 60% on the written test to pass. I am not sure exactly what ours was or what they are expected to learn over there compared to us but that is terrible.

Dear Mr. Kay,
Today Barack Obama pledged to dramatically slash the skyrocketing annual budget deficit. He started to dole out the $787 billion economic stimulus package he signed last week. He has promised to cut the yearly deficit byt the end of his four-year term. He also said that he would reinsttute a pay-as-you-go rule. This calls for the spending reductions to match increases. With all this in mind, Wall Street still seemed unimpressed by all the talk . Tomorrow night he will make his case for Congress and the nation.
