In our society i think that self reliance is undervalued. I think that self reliance has something to do with making things work on your own. If something bad happens you should be ale to count on yourself to get it done. It is your whole life and we dont realize it. You rely on yourself when you do homework, cook dinner, you have to be able to do things on yourself with no help. In society i think that self reliance could easily become more imminent in society if our economy still goes south. Some of our goods and services may go away if things
dont improve. Therefore who will be there when you need help, sometimes no one. We need to learn to do some things with no help.
A value that is undervalued is freedom. I think that most of us take freedom for granted. Their are millions of people around the world that would give anything to be free. Other people cant vote for their leaders and have a dictatorship. People in our country wont take advantage of the right to vote in our country. Also the freedom of speech. Some people would get shot in other countries for speaking their mind. We need to start appreciating what we have and stop complaining.

Family values are the most undervalued in our society this day and age. About 50% of couples are or have been divorced in our country. That's way too many children most likely living with one parent. I understand that people grow apart from each other or just can't stand each other anymore, but for Christ's sake if your not sure you're right for each other than don't get married in the first place. People are moving with the times way too fast, they need to slow down, think, and realize what's really imporant in life. This value could become more important if people took their time when deciding to marry each other, there's no reason for rushing. Some people don't understand that their job or material things are not as important as their husband, wife, or kids. So the solution is to slow down and reevaluate your life.

I aloso think that freedom is a value that is undervallued. Alot of people in other countries dont have freedom. ome countries dont even get to pick whoo is president or whatever they have. Not everyone has the same freedom. Some countries have to where certain clothes and stuff like that. I think that people should value our freedom more. Start apreciating it.

In our society i think the value that is undervalued would be morals. I think that when people try to keep thier morals they just get swept up in life. No one really cares about your values, they all just try to get ahead in life. Sometimes you can not live your life exactly the way you want to. People try to but sometimes your values can not always get you ahead and you have to do it yourself. I think morals should be more valued becasue they are how people want to live. I think people should respect more peoples values and how they want to live life.
I think freedom is undervalues in society. As we get older we take on more responsibilities but we get more freedom too. Whenever i wanted to go to the movies when i was a kid, my mom always had to drive me and give me money. When you learn you can support youreself for little activities, you can drive yourself there and supply you own money. Also, as we get older our parents trust us more, which means we can hangout with friends longer and do things we wouldnt usually be able to do. Freedom makes a person more happy because they can do more of the things they want. People are sometimes never thankfull to be let to do the things they want, like take the car out, go to your girlfriends house and such.

I think are indivdualism is undervalued. I think that the government has taken over most of country. we are becoming more in groups. The government does really let one person spreak out. I also think that are freedom is undervalued. I think the government gives more freedom to another country or state. Were not treated equal.

In our society, I believe that independence is undervalued. Too many people are just followers. They take the easy road because they don't want to do all that hard work to be independent. This value could become more important if it was encouraged more by people. Maybe in schools or something. If was encouraged more than more people would start doing their own thing and becoming more independent. Then it wouldn't be as undervalued anymore.

A value I feel is undervalued would be freedom. I say this because people around the world would love to have this. We as americans are so used to freedom that we almost forget what it is. The definition of freedom means almost anything. We get to live where we want have an opurtunity to have an education etc. We have rights given to us and we cant complaign. If you were in a poor contry with dictatorship and violence freedom is unamaginable. We have it easy...because of freedom and the people who protect it for us. America needs to respect this value better and remember why we have it because we got it easy compared to others.
I feel that a value that is an undervalue is honesty. Today, people can do anything to get what they want. I feel that sometimes, people throw away their values in order to get were they want to be. Honesty, it seems, to be one of those values. People sometimes make it seem okay by telling themselves that they needed to lie. Another is it was just a little white lie. To make this value important again, they can relize how much lies affect them. I believe that the only way to relize this is through personal experience, or just being taught it when younger.

A value that i think is undervalued is the value of family. Some people just take their family for granted and don't think much of them. But your family are the couple of people you can talk to about anything. They always help you when they can and teach you life long lessons. Some kids blow off their family for their friends every time they are asked to family stuff. This value can become more important by people putting family first.

The value i think that is undervalued in our society would have to be the value of Freedom. This is beacause we have had freedom since we have been born and it was just like it was given to us. But little does everyone know that there are people fighing for you and i someone and its alwyas been like that. Also the choices that we have are alot more than many in other countrys where the goverment decides what job you are going to have. THe way our country was formed still lives on today and i don't think many of us relise these. TO change this would be very hard either you would have to serve in the military or see or hear about someones life who arn't as lucky as us. I wish i could say that i understand all the freedoms and rights i am lucky to have but i don't and very few know what it means to be free.

The value that is most of all under-valued is human resources. the advancement of technology has replaced many jobs. After a bit pf the civil war the industry boomed greatly. Jobs in every department was filled and more and more money was flowing though the economy. Soon after, ( I mean 50-70 years) robotics came out. They were able to do repetitive tasks such as painting. more and more robotics were employed, and so the labor force diminished. How long is it until other jobs are replace? Hard work will become a thing of the past! Robot teachers, law enforcement ect. there will be no end to it!

I think the value of individuality is undervalued. Too many people just "follow the crowd." They don't think for themselves and think that they have to look like everyone else. Every person was to be an individual, not to look and act like someone else. Celebrities make it so everyone wants to be like them , rich , famous etc. This value is mostly undervalued in high school , people are too concerned with being "cool" , they forget to be their self. I think if people started to dress like they want to and think for themselves than this value could become more important.

I think the most undervalued thing in our society is freedom of choice. In our society most people tend to follow the crowd and dont make their own decisions. It is very rare to find someone who is transcendental, and goes for what they feel is right. Instead of what others think is right. Usually instead of picking out the outfit that you want to wear in morning, you always want to wear the clothes that everyone else is wearing. This value can become more important in society when people start relizing to make their own decisions, instead of just being a follower their whole life. Also, to become more trancendental, and being an individual.
Clare Pathe
in society today i think something we undervalue is relationships. sometimes people get to caught up in money, jobs, school, and sports to take a step back and look at what the have. we should be more grateful of relationships we have and build upon them. if you have family that go to your games for sports they are supporting you. if you have friends that are there for you when you are having a bad day. it is good to have people who can watch out for you when you mess up. sometime, though, we have to learn to look after ourselves. those people aren't always going to have our back or cover for us. people move, some die, and friendships end. if you take the time to appreciate some values you can invest in them and make them last longer.
The value that I think that is undervalued is indivualsism. It all starts with the little kids. When we were little we wanted to be just like Britney Spears. As time went on the people changed. Now little kids want to be just like Hannah Montana. I think that they need to know that that they had to be their own person. As we got older we kind of grow out of that. But I cant stress it enough. I know that they are little. Most people think that they dont need to be indiual. But they are all induvial in my eyes.

A value that I feel is undervalued in today's society is respect. Every person deserves respect and I feel that many people are falling through on that. Some instances where I have seen respect being thrown away is when someone speaks poorly of another person, or when someone diminishes a person's value. All people are equal and no one is better than the next person. I think that people tend to disrespect the people they think they are better than, and that should'nt be the case. When you disrespect someone, you are losing your respect from others. While many people have disrespected others, I also see people disrespecting themselves in today's society. In my eyes I see this just as diminishing as disrespecting another person.
In our society I think that freedom is a major value that it overlooked or undervalued. We don't think everyday about how great it is to have freedom in our country. A lot of other countries are run by a dictator and don't have the option to vote for their leader. There are many people who would die to have freedom in their country. I think people these days are taking freedom for granted and not appreciating the opportunity that we have. I don't think this value can become more important because it is the most important. We can't do anything to make freedom more important, all we can do is stress to people the importance of having freedom in our society.

I think a value that is undervalue in our society is responsibility. I think this because some people don't take responsibility for their own actions. Also, people don't finish their work when it is suppose to be done or don't show up to work on time. This value can become more important if they make everyone take responsibility for their own actions. That means if a person braeks a rule then they will have to suffer the consquences. Also, if someone doesn't finish their work then they should not accept it then maybe people will start truning in their work. People who keep showing up let for work should get warnings and after their warnings they will be fired.

Many people undervalue the meaning of family. People take family for granted and dont realize how special they are to have a loving family. This past weekend I have learned that family's arent always perfect and the way my family is. Others have many hardships and not many close relationships with there parents or brothers and sisters. I feel fortunate to be able to say that I have a great family that is loving and supports me in whatever I do in life, but they will give me advice on what NOT to do.

I think a value that is undervalued in our society is individualism. People today don't think about what they like, or think, but what others think. They base thier choises on what others tell them and don't consider what they really think. They get swept up in the influence of others and have no control over themselves. It can be somehting big, or somehting as little as what outfit to wear that day. People need to value that they have the right to be themselves instead of hiding thier true identity. People are too afraid of what people will think of them to live thier life with happiness, and how they want.

the two values i thought of were work ethic and education. today i think many kids lack a good work ethic. a good work ethic is really the root value ypu should have because if you have a good work ethic you can acomplish anything. so it would be a great thing to have that value to become more important. also getting a good education. i think many kids today dont really value their schooling. theyre pretty much forced to go to school at a very young age and they take it for granted for that reason.

I believe that a value not valued well enough in our society is anti materialism. So many people are so connected to all these material items in our society. People feel that ipods, video games, and designer clothes are needs. Instead of food, housing and proper clothing. It could become more important in our society becuase it could lead to less people stealing. If it isnt considered a need to be cool or have or what not then there wouldnt be a major motive to steal something. So I think people should care less about material items a person may have.

Mr. Kay,
A value that I think is undervalued is responcibility. I think that people don't take the chooses they are givin seriously. By being responcible, you are doing what is ask of you and what is right to do. Not all responcibilities are going to be fun, or what you wanted them to be. I remember when I wanted to have responcibilities, and know that I have them, they are not all that they are cracked up to be. I know that by having responcibility, you are showing that you are not irresponcible. I'm still working on that:)

A value that is undervalued in our society is respect. People today really aren't as nice to each other and don't show respect at all. Some examples of this would be people not holding doors open for other people or shoving people. Elders today really are not seen as good or better people. People treat them the same way as they would treat a twenty year old person. No matter what someones social status or standard of living, everyone deserves the same amount of respect. Today, respect is found fewer and farther in between and it diminishes people's selfesteem. This value could become more important by demonstrations of others respecting others. People will follow when they see something that makes them feel better inside.

A value that is undervalued is, coperation and kindness. If people coperated and were kind to eachother the world would be alot better place to live. People are always mean to eachother and only care fo rthem selves. If everyone helped out everyone that everything would function alot better. Fer example, If there is a car out in the middle of the road and it is staled. you could help that person to get it off the road. Then everyone is more happy. Then they do something good for someone else. kind of lik epay it forward.
i think that freedom is the most undervalued value then every single value we have. the reason that it is undervalued is because everybody is grown up free and don't realize that most country's don't have any freedom at all. the people that think that freedom is just life, it is int it something that we Americans have to stand up for. if we have to go to war to protect it then is what we will have to do. some times the thing that we don't ever think anything will ever happen to it, just one day like 9/11 some terrorist decides attack us. now do you think that freedom is free you make the choice? but i will tell you what i think that freedom is not free.
please talk about a value that you think is undervalued in our society. How could this value become more important?
A value that i believe has became undervalued in society is self respect. With the constant pressure of the media it is easy to became lost in its glamor. The media broadcasts pressure on many topics teens are facing. Then people get caught up in trying to please other people, rather then their own self. People move faster in relationships, experiment with drugs, dress slutty, and cause chaos, because to them its the norm. Television viewers are exposed to what should be an alternative lifestyle, daily. We are a generation raised on television and it's really not working that well. The media isn't telling us whats morally right or wrong its showing what will get it good ratings.

I feel that a value that is undervalued in society today is freedom. In the United States I realize that we have greater freedom then most other countries. But I do not understand why there is so many rules. I enjoy the feeling of getting older however. As I get older and continue to make smart choices my parents trust me more and allow me to do more things I wouldn't have been able to do at a younger age. I can't wait to get my license so that I can go and do things with out the hassle of having to have your parents drive you places. Just lately my parents have been more understanding towards how late I can stay out as well as go places i couldn't before.

I think that modesty is very undervalued in our society. It seems as if our society becomes more fixeated on women showing more skin. Many advertisements leave little to the imagination. Many women feel like they won't get attention unless they don't dress revealingly. They feel like if they aren't the smartest, or most athletic, and etc. that all they have left is their body. This thought process is so brainless to me. We all age and become less youthful looking, so we should focus on what will stay with us through our lifetime. If more famous designers would promote clothes that cover up a little bit more skin, that would help with modesty. I think that this value may take a while to become even slightly more important. TV commercials promote this all the time and the society feeds off of it. We need more leaders to stand up and fight for modesty - or else we will keep spiraling down this road.

The one value I think is undervalued is pride. I don't think that we as Amerricans have pride in each other and what we do. I think we just give up and don't try to help our own country out. We would have more pride in our country if we bought stuff that was made in our country. One reason why they're are so many people losing their job in the car industry is because we buy foriegn made cars. When people don't buy American made they stop producing them therefore resulting in a lose of a job because they don't need to produce them anymore. Another thing is that I think we should take pride in our newly elected president. We shouldn't make racist remarks and say mean things because he is going to run our country for next four years.
Troy Wojichowski 6th hr
In our society i think that a value that is undervalued is rebellion. I say this for multiple reasons. First of all if no one ever rebelled in our life time then Hitler and who ever would be next would rule the world. Also, no one would ever get to decide things on there own. I mean if we didn't rebel against Great Britian then there would be no U.S.A in the world most likely. Also if Columbus never rebelled and said i am going to find a new country then America still wouldn't be found. Plus those are just a couple examples of why rebellion is undervalued. Also, in everyday life probably a majority of people rebel against something everyday. Whether this be some homework in math class, or not running for a team and even in your job not doing a project the day someone wants you to do it. Last without rebelloin i think our society and world would be any where close to were it is.

I think the value that is undervalued in our society is self reliance. Many teens now a days could care less about grades and so on, so they are occupied with how they look and if people like them. the point im tryin to shoot across is they dont try things their own way, they do what others do. They always rely on other trend setters because they want to be cool. so, people never think for themselfs.. this could lead to bad things. For example, in school if you always copied, then a test came up how would you past? you wouldnt because you always relied on other people. all in all, the only person you need to be relying on is yourself.

A value that is undervalued is freedom. I think that people take freedom for granted. There are tons of people out there who don't have that freedom, that wish they did. As in others that have that freedom, they do as they please. As in Freedom of speech, in America we have that right. In other countries they most likely don't. they would get short or penalized for it. I think that Americans should be happy that we have those rights, and be happy.
In our society, I think self confidence is the most undervalued moral. Too many people today don't have the ability to believe in themselves. A lack of confidence can lead to many bad things, unfortunately even failure. I think when you go into a situation with a lack of confidence it affects you negatively. Especially in high pressure situations it can cause panic. Therefore, I think not enought feel strongly about preserving their self confidence and end up being unhappy with their lives. So, to sum it up, I think self confidence is an important part of living a healthy lifestyle.
These days in America, i find honesty to take the role of the most unvalued value in our society today. From the cheaters to the stealers and over to the liers, people will do anything they can to find or maintain a job with the economy these days. I find honesty to be the most unvalued value in our society not only for jobs but for everything in general. People have gone crazy with the lieing to everyone just to get something in perticular. I grew up with my parents by my side always telling me to watch everything i have and not to believe anything that is to good to be true. One thing my dad tells me to this day constantly is not to believe anything that i hear and only to believe half of what i see. As i listen to him i truly find this to be the main quote that should always rome around in the back of people's minds. The reason i find this true is because if you think about it, first off no matter what you here you should not believe and the other part of this of only believeing half of what you see. This is expeccialy important because you may see something that you find to be true or you believe but the other half is just a big old joke that they hid from you. Always have that in the back of your head.

The value I believe that is not used fairly often in our society would have to be the patience and kindness of each other. Everywhere I go I see people yelling at an innocent bystander who was just doing their job, and get yelled at for absolutely no good reason. If one person would just take the time to let the worker do their job with the proper procedure, no of this non sense would be necessary. When people have a bad day at work or get in fight with their husband and wives, who do you take it out on? The people behind the counters, as always. Most of the time we don't even realize that we are being rude, were to caught up in ourselves. If everyone were to be nice to the people that surround us it would make our world a better place for kids now a days to grow up. I truly believe that if our fellow citizens would have a little more patience and would give someone you don't know a polite smile. Our society can be one of the greatest ones.

is respect a value? because most people show little respect to people. i only show respect to people who i get along with. i show respect because, it is the "good thing to do." most of the time. to people who do not know what respect is, treat people how they treat you. this will make you be able to take hits, in the sense of words or secrets or somethin dum like that. if you show respect towards many people you earn respect back and they may treat you with respect.
Mr. Kay,
Personally, I think that individualism is pretty undervalued value. Everybody seems to be very alike. It could be because everyone in my age level is apart of pointless cliques so they just act the same. The grown ups in my life are a bit more individuals. Maybe it is a something acquired with age, but my peers now are very independent in personality. I believe this value stands above a lot because I think it is stupid when people don't do as they please because they are worried about what others think and I think that is why they get held back. Everybody should be different in their own way. It is annoying when you see cliques and such where everybody are like carbon copies of each other. People are afraid to be them selves but really that's one thing you should express beyond belief; Personality.

I think freedom is a undervalue in our society today. Most people over use it I think. Their is so many people all over the world that would die just to have freedom. As we get older we have more responsibilities and more freedom. We have had freedom since we have been born it seems like it was just given to us. Freedom I think is overly used, and we shouldn't take advantages. In the United States I realize that we have greater freedom then most other countries.
I believe honesty is undervalued in our society. I believe this is undervalued because not many people are honest about everything they do and everything they feel. People are scared of the outcome if they are honest. They think they might not be accepted if they are honest about there own feelings. People worry about being accepted more than accepting and being honest about them selves. Society should honor and value honesty. Then people would have more confidence in themselves.
I don't think the value of family relationships is really valued in our society. This is undervalued because everyone wants to hang out with their friends and they don't care for spending time with their family. I don't think people realize how much important their family is. Friends come and go but your family is there forever. I think this value could become more important if people would spend more time with their family, instead of always going off to hang with your friends. I value my family almost more than anything. I am always there for them because I know that I have to live the rest of my life with them.

I think honesty is undervalued. There is a lack of honesty because you are rewarded for lying. It doesn’t matter if it is the truth as long as it is what people want to hear. With a lack of honesty the bad guy always wins because he cheats, lies, and intimidates. He also win because he thinks of what is good for him not for others. People that truly believed in honesty are now labeled as freaks or nerds. This value becomes more important when everyone stops lying and being selfish.

I think a value that is undervalued in society is being happy with yourself. There are so many people that just don't appreciate who they are. A lot of people think that they could be perfect if they were just a couple punds lighter or just a little bit prettier. I don't agree with this becasue people should accept themselves for who they are and be happy with their body. This value can become more important if everyone could just appreciate things about themselves and not be negative around other people. If someone is positive about themselves around you, you are more likely to join in. Another thing is to not compare yourself to a magazine cover. Those pictures are so airbrushed and people just don't usually look like that in real life. Its whats on the inside that counts.
In our society I think endurance is undervalued. It is key to doing whatever you do. Whether your in a office or your playing sports you have to have it. When you want to quit you just have to dig down deep and find it. Most of the time I get lazy and don't want to do a lot but I realize that I have to work hard. In school, I hate working hard but i know i have to work hard to get to my desired school. Also, in sports i constantly push myself to get better.

Mr.Kay,
There are a ton of values in america that get undervalued. The one I think that does the most is life. We all should be thankful that we HAVE the oppurtunity to live. In some countries kids die when there babies or just little kids and don't get there chance to become what they want. Or in worse senarios they are killed becuse of hunger, war, and those child armies. We are lucky enough to live in a contry where are parents don't send us off to work in a run down factory, or have to sell us so they can make money just to feed you. The reason I feel this value is undervalued is because all the time I hear people say, "Oh i hate my life." that really makes me made becuse they don't realize how lucky they are.

I truly think that freedom is undervalued in our society. This value could be more respected if we all went to back in time and was a girl. Or if we were African American. Then we could more greatly understand what it meant to be free. We don't appreciate the fact that we can have jobs we want. We also don't appreciate the fact that we can vote, or just have a say period.

I think honesty is very undervalued. It seems like everyone just lies to each other. Not only in schools, but in work. i think we could trust people more if they only would be honest. i think to many people are either one of 2 things, they either do not need interdependence, or they take their independence to an extreme. some people rely on others so much in life, that they could not function properly with out them. but some people reject all nice things others do, which isolates them, making them thus independent. we need to all be at some point in between, where we can have a great time when we are out with friends, or sit quietly in a room, and not be urging to talk to another person. i know i am that way, and that is how i've gotten by in life for quite some time.
