Week 4 Day 1

A couple things to remember:

1. Please find a quote, example, etc. from your second source in regards to the value you chose about Chris McClandless.
2. When you are working in groups, it is important to get work done. This is a skill that you all need to work on to be more productive.
3. There is no blog when there is no school but today's blog is due by 11:59 p.m. this evening.

We have suffered through the longest political campaign ever based on the fact that these people truly started campaining over 2 years ago. Based on the political climate that we live in, and for some you may need to do some reading before writing this blog, what is the most pressing issue the winner of tomorrows election has to deal with? Also, if you could create a law about campaigning would you make changes to our current system and why?

Have a great day off and think of me while I am sitting in meetings all day. This will give me time to think of more ways to torture you on Wednesday.

i feel the most pressing issue is the war and alternative energy's and global warming. if i were to create a law. I would make a law to not throw away recyclable things or you can be find. this i would do and more. i would also insure these types of laws are enforced strictly. i don't know if i would make many changes except for how the state is and outsourcing jobs are horrible. i would try to not have so many wars.

The most pressing issue that the winner of tomorrows election has to face is the economy. The most pressing issue is the economy because there are so many people that are without homes. Also there are so many cutbacks. And from the looks of it, our economy is slowly heading towards a depression. If I could make a law bout campaigning I would make one against mud-slinging. Because personally I don't think it does us any good. So I would make it so that candidates would not be able to say bad things about each other.

I believe there are many pressing issues in this years election. The war in the Middle East, America's declining economy, gas prices, and many of the other problems that Bush is leaving behind. Of all these, I feel the economy may be the most pressing. If the United States loses too much of its wealth, life will definitley become even more difficult for the entire nation, leading to increased crime, worse healthcare, and sooner or later complete anarchy. Now, if I could create a law regarding campaigning, I would limit the amount that can be spent on the campagin that isnt self-risen or out-of-pocket otherwise. This would hopefully add a small amount of capital to the national treasury.

There are a lot of issues that the candidates have to face I don't think I can choose just one. I know that gas prices have been killing us these past years but they have come down, only to rise again later. The amount of foreclosures has effected more people than Jesus has. I'm sure there's a lot of race issues to deal with too and that accounts for McCain also. The war is a big problem but I think the worst issue the next president will have to deal with is this country slipping into a greater deppression. This president will have to lead us back from a man whose set us back centuries in just 8 years. I don't think I would change much about campaigning but every statement you make must be varified with evidence. Also, if you're going to make a commercial then don't just knock your opposing candidate, say what you want to fight for instead of whining all the time.
OH! and by "the next president" what i really mean is Obama. HAHA

I feel that there are many issues every politician has to deal with. I think however each person has a specific problem to deal with. Obama for instance is going to have to deal with living up to the reputation of being inexpierenced. He is going to have to prove himself to be an expierenced president. Mcain is going to have to deal with the rep of another four years of Bush, and having to prove he is different from the not so favored president. If i had to make a law about campainging it would be everyone has to vote democrat, because all the Republicans care about is money and ridiculous politics :)

i think theres two big issues that will be pressed on tomarrows winner. the two are the economy and the war in iraq. both canidates have different views on both topics. the counrtys economy is definatly hurting and i wonder how much getting a new president will help that? i definatly know who i want to win to though. also i wouldnt really change anything about how the campaigning works. i dont really know that much about it but to me it looks like it works pretty well.

I think that the most pressing issue would have to be the war in Iraq. People for a while now are wanting to get soldiers home. Also, get gas prices lower, which does tie in with the war. I think that whoever America feels can do these things the best and in the shortest time will win this election. I think that we need to figure out a way for future campains to not let the people whom are running to switch opinions to gain votes. We truly don't know what these people will actually do once elected. This is because they are only telling us what they think we want to hear.

Mr. Kay,

I think that the most pressuring issue is global warming, alternate energy, and the war. I think that many people beleive that Obama is the man for the job, and thats ok, but I think that he is to inexperienced. He has not been in the political world to know enough about the way of leading. People think that the we should get out of Iraq and bring our troops home. Of course, that is easy for me to say because Im not the one fighting. But if we leave Iraq and in a way surrender, it shows that we are weak and we will have even more terrorists in the US, which this is all of what Obama wants to do. McCain on the other hand wants to leave Iraq with a win and show the rest of the world that we arent woosing out and backing down, becuase if we do Al Qauda and the rest of the world will c that we are weak. Of course like every election, the candidates say whatever appeals to the US citizens the most, but I beleive that McCain is being the most truthful and knows how to deal with military and will regulate the economy.

There are many issues that the next president will have to deal with. The economy is Michigan is a big one but thats not for the whole United States . Gas prices are another one , but I think both of these revolve around the war in Iraq. The next president will have to dig the United States out of the hole George W. Bush put the United States in. It doesn't seem like there is anyway to get out of Iraq and that is what the next president will have to figure out. The only law I would make about campaigning is in commercials , don't have a 3 minute commercial saying why you shouldn't vote for the other candidate. Instead state the reasons why people would vote for you , and how you will help make the United States better.

I believe that here are many issues in this election. However, I think that he main issue is the middle class and jobs. Our economy has gone to shit the past year.(it's the truth sorry). I think that we need to quit outsourcing jobs and giving money to companies who are already making billions. I think that our kiddle classmis he heart of the USA, and that when they are working times have been better. I think that one campaign law should be that there should only be one campaign ad per month. This may last about 30 minutes and all play every night on 2 4 or 7. All of these other ads are way to hackneyed. (I think it's right). I think this would make tv way more easy and alot more real campaigning than mudslinging. I think it will showcase slot more of the real important issues I'm America

Mr. Kay,

I believe that the most pressing issue for tomorrow's election winner is the money / economy problem. McCain made a really good point about oil prices and what we are going to do. He said "Instead of paying all of these foriegn countries millions of dollars for oil. Why don't we just start using our own? We have some of the Largest oil wells in the world, why not save money and start using what we have!" I think that that is a very good point, and whoever wins will deffinetly have some problems to think about. If I could create a law, I think it would be something along the lines of "The future belongs to us, in though's words, we will treat or world in order to plan out the best future for our populations for here and to come."

P.S. I think that if the nominees for President would stop braging on each other and told the voters what they plan to do for our economy and start focusing on what really matters, then they would have a better chance a letting the voters know about what they will do for our country.

The most pressing issue is definatly the economy. We are headed into one of the biggest recessions ever. What is the new president going to do to create new jobs? Also, how will he keep our jobs from going overseas? Honestly, I dont think either of the candidates has a good answer. That is one thing I would change about politics. I wish for once they would say what their really going to do and cut the b.s. It makes me so mad sometimes to watch the debates. Its rediculous.

I think that the most pressing issue that who ever wins will have to deal with is the war in iraqu and most likely gobal waarming. Everyone who has family over in iraqu of corse wants them to come home. I would make a law to just use like cars that dont need gas to run so then it wont pollute the air as much as it does right now. Also another issue is the gas prices. I think we should make the gas prices go down more. Even though they are down right now. Who knows wen they will go back up.

I believe that many issues are present for tomorrows election winner. The main issue that I think deals with America is the middle class. This also includes taxes. America's economy is struggling and in the citizen's eyes, it is up to the next president to fix it. The job market in America is another thing that presents a large problem. Due to trying to save money, we have sent all of our extra jobs overseas and we have made many job cuts. The energy crisis is another concern. Energy then directly relates to the war. This is because fuel or gasoline has become a large part of the war. We keep trying to help Iraq and we keep going into more and more debt.

There are a lot of pressing issues that the next president needs to cover. One of the issues is the war in Iraq. Obama wants to take the troops out of Iraq, which can be a great idea to their families, but overall I dont think its a good idea at all. Because this could cause controversy with other countries, like terroists. Where McCain doesnt want to take the troops out of Iraq, which is a better idea. Another pressing issue is obviously, the economy. America is going through a deppresion, so the next president (Obama) has to try to think of ideas to fix our economy, so we get out of this depression. As of the campaigning, its really annoying when commercials come on when they are just saying the negative stuff about eachother and not giving information about what they feel.

Kaleigh S said...

I believe that the most pressing issue the winner will have to face is the economy. I believe that we are quickly headed toward another depression. It may not be as bad as the Great Depression was, but every day our stock is losing value, gas prices are going up, and more and more people are struggling to pay off debts. I think that the issue of alternative fules will need to be addressed as well. The gas prices are going up so quickly that it can cost around $60 to fill a car's tank up. We need to look into cheaper ways to create energy that are not fossil fuels. Eventually our gasoline supply will be completely depleted and we will be forced to find an alternative fuel source, so why not start now? I think that campaigns should not be allowed to be started unitl, at the earliest, a year before the election. Millions of dollars are spent on campaining. Why not use some of this money for something that benefits us all rather than the candidates? Putting a time limit on campaings would cut the cost down and make campaigning more fair.

I think that the biggest issue has to be the war in iraq. I say this because we have spent so much money there and i don't think we have made to much progress. Also, a shit load of people have died in iraq which makes more and more people have to go there and i don't think that's good. Last, i think that it is going to take a long time to get iraq in the right direction but i don't think can do this untill the economy is better. Now i think a law for campaining is you have to have everyone in your party speak. I say this because they are the ones that are basically doing most of the stuff besides a couple things. Plus i think that bush was bad but his other people were worse. Last i think ralfinator is going to win.....not

I really have no view on the elections other than Mr John McCain(the politician) is a racist old man. Mr. Barrac/Barrak Obama is misunderstood to be a terrorist only because of his name.

Other than that, the fact that the hottest issue on the ballots this time is Prop. Two(the legalizing of Stem Cell Research). Personally, I encourage the research. I mean, to be blunt, what else are we going to do with those abortions? If women and teenaged girls are raped and do not want to have the child, the choice is theirs whether or not to have the child or not. >:( And when a girl KNOWS it was HER fault that she wasn't 'protected', be there NO MERCY for her. Not only will the new presdient decide weather laws geted passed or not, they will have to come up with a way to help the country. We are at a all time low for some things and thats got to change if there is any hope in our future. The results of tomorrow will most likely effect everyone in the US.

I believe the most pressing issues are economy and war. I think economy is big because people are losing there jobs etc. People need new ways to earn money and I think we need a president that can help. The president needs to pull us out of iraq along with other countries because we spent enough money helping them with problems. War costs tons of money on economy. If I was to make a law I would make it so there could not be a long campaign. All these companies are losing more money by funding people to win. We need just one month for everyone to state why they should be elected and no more. This would save tons of money and make things a hell of a lot easier. This law would be inforced strictly and only allowing 31 days of campaigning.

The election that we are going to partake in this week is one of the most important elections we are faced with. I think the biggest issue they are faced with is the economy and the war in Iraq. Our country needs to get their crap together and stop buying foriegn. There is this one bumper that says "Out of a job yet? Keep buying foriegn", I laugh everytime I see it. The one reason why we are laying people off in the car industry is becasue we keep importing foriegn cars and people are buying those cars rather than domestic cars that we are producing. We are Americans so why not buy American made cars. The other pressing issue we are faced with is the war in Iraq. We are spending so much money trying to rebuild that stupid place and it keeps getting blown up. Besides that fact, we are sending more of our soldiers over there and they are getting killed. We need to get the heck out of there and get our people bhack to where they live.

Technically, I am not allowed to express my political opinion for it may sway my students. Yet, when has that stopped me.

Honestly, the economy is the most important issue. 2 years ago it was probably the war but with the stock market going nuts and companies falling apart (see Circuit City today) we need to focus more on the economy (which could include less money being spent in Iraq).

The problem with this election is that it has, for me, become the lesser of two evils in regards of who to pick. I look at many issues including their stance on both economic, social, environmental and global issues. I also need to look at running mate (even if they are attractive) and the idea of the next president choosing up to 2 supreme court justices. I throw all that info in a hat and will then pick my choice tomorrow when I get into that little booth. So, today I will not say who I will choose because anything could happen this evening to change my mind. Yet, I take the responsibility of voting seriously and the future of this country is at a cross roads.

Are you happy young Mr. Szajner?

Mr Kay,
I think that there are two main ideas on each politicians head right now. Economy and War. No one can get or keep a job due to the horrible economy. The big problem is that wages and salaries are the same but the cost for basic necessities are going up. With the war, we just send more and more people to Iraq because they need it and the Iraqi government wont do anything to change what needs to be done. I personally think that campaigning should be banned. I think this because if you are really willing to follow somebody, you want to know what they are about anyways, so why is putting ads everywhere so important. There is also the fact that they are both going to say that the other candidate is going to ruin whatever they are talking about. They both going to come on the TV saying, Hey Obama/McCain, is going to hurt the economy. So again its just preference. Also, its not like your going to be watching TV when you plan to vote for McCain and see an Obama ad and be like, Hey screw what I said before about McCain, Obama just warped my mind and I'll vote for him. I don't know, its just annoying.

Yes he may thing its better to pull them out but in realaity tarrists can reflect on this and cause dangerous attacts on us. McCain has the best of is saying NO. which i respect more. The most pressing issue is the economy. We need strong leader ship with knowledge of how to solve this problem. There will be no easy answer. It may not be the answer we like. In response to making changes to our current campaigning system, I would like to see fewer advertisements. I think we should put a limit on advertisements. I think we should also put a limit on spending. This would prevent the well funded candidate from winning. This makes it fair.

I think that the most pressing issue the winner of tommorows election has to deal with is the rapidly falling economy. We have reached sort of a depression and the jobs are down and so are the stocks. I like McCain because he believes in giving tax cuts to the buisness men and women. Many people are like OMG this is going to kill the average person, but their wrong. Think about it, if the big companies get a tax break then they will sell goods to the common person cheaper. If the companies get freakin screwed like Barrak "Hussein" Obama wants them to, then they will only sell their goods and services for more money. They have to make up for what they lost due to taxes some how. Many people are also voting for Barrak because he's a democrat, the thing that most people don't relise is that the majority of congress is democrat. The president isn't even close to making the amount of decisions the congress does. The congress of democrats is mostly to blame for the depression amoung us. So all that b.s. about change is wrong. If Obamas president their will be no change. If I could create a law about campaigning it would be that the candidates have to tell the truth and quit lieing. I don't like how candidates can lie and get away with it. Obama seems to be a little shaky on what he has done in his past, when McCain is straight forward. I don't think that Obama can be trusted and if he's president, the u.s. fall apart worse than it is now.

I wouldnt change our system for a few reasons. First, i dont think there are problems with our system, i just think the people in charge of our government have problems. Our government is not run the same way it was when the constitution was written. I just think the rich congressmen and businessmen are taking too much control.

The most pressing issue that are future president will have is dealing with the economy. The economy is a very important aspect of out country. What makes the economy so important is that it applies to everyone. Most people today are changing their daily habits to adapt to the dramatic change in our economy. If i could make a law about campaigning i would base it on money. I hate how every election candidates spend large amounts of money on the campaign. I also dislike how so many people donate to their choice of candidate. Well there are so many pressuring issues there is almost no way of forming priorities. Drill of coast of the US,global warming, economy(witch can be described as have decayed roadkill on the side of the road of the world) and the war itself! It might take more than 2 terms of presidency to fix the economy.
Well, here's what I would do; let the big companies fall and let others pull a phoenix, and then help companies with expenses that runs a competitive market with foreign industry. Turbo tariffs, so high that the mention of "china" make misers scream in terror! I want the nation to have every step of production and industry, to the point we no longer need other countries for trade! we would have ultimate power of embargo it witch others economy would falter of a anaconda plan. maybe the Jones cola is talking, but to me, the other nations have been ripping us off for our dollars to quite some time. We need to export to so many other governments, I hate to say it, but we need the Canadian's loonies! After that we control the world, without military might! People are unsure what is going to happen with that, and some people may be voting on what they will be doing with the war in Iraq. If I could make a law about campaining if would be having to be honest. Honesty, I believe is the key to a relationship. Which, presidents would like to have some sort of relationships with his country. Which all the news, and mixed information you can never be to shore on what is the truth, or a lie. Instead of just telling the people what they want to here, tell them about what good things you would do in your power. Also in what way you would change things, for the better. That's what the people want to know, so they can make the right decision. Not just dissing your competition. I would definitely change that if I could.

I think the major issue in this election is our economy. It kind of sucks right now and its not good for a lot of people. The candidate with the best economic plan will be favored by a lot of people. Another big thing is the war. A lot of people want the soldiers to come home and they will vote for a president who can make that happen. If I could create a law, it would be that there would be no talking bad about the other candidate. I really don't think it's right and stuff can be made up. I think campaigning should be making yourself look good by focusing on your accomplishments instead of cutting the other people down

I think the biggest issues tomorrows winner has to deal with is our economy and the middle class. First of all, our economy is in the worst shape its been in a long time. Due to the economy, people haven't been spending money on luxury items such as new cars and other things. This is leading to a recession. The middle class is in big trouble and I think that in a couple years that the middle class won't exist anymore. With taxes the way they are, the poor are going to get poorer, and the rich are going to get richer. The middle class will be eliminated. I don't think America can afford to go with another Republican president. Look what Bush has done to the country in the past 8 years. Whoever wins, I don't think it will do much good because in four years I don't think anyone could fix the problems America is facing. Were basically voting for vice president because McCain will die of old age and Obama will be assassinated. Joe Biden has alot more experience than Palin which is why I want Obama to win.

you know, i really had to sleep on this one.

but now, i got a good idea.

i think no issue is most pressing in this election, but there are some who are definitely standing out in each others campaigns.
Those Are:
Oil
Taxing
Gay Rights
other alternative fuels
washington overall needs a change

my opinions:
Oil: we need to start using our own if we choose not to use other biofuels.
Taxing: we should charge a bit more for those who are more rich, and if not, we should strongly urge them to donate to them.
Gay Rights: this is a big one, and i will import something i wrot earlier into this;
"Yeah Atessa, westley does have some very good mental integrity, and thats good, but sometimes a flaw. its good for the fact that he will stick to his idea's, through thick and thin, but also, who are we not to say he is wrong, cause honestly, he is just living a very rule based life.

he has a serious point on the gay issue. as more people have become tolerant of homosexuality, like i and many other's; west has good mental integrity, to fight for what he thinks is right, and that homosexual people shouldn't become married.

no of course, his flaw is that, we do not have a national religion, because i know my religion doesn't like it, and many others do not either, but his flaw, that i wouldn't put it past him, if he overlooked it, was that, Catholicism is not are national religion, nor will it ever, and for them to ban gay marriage would be accepting of a uniform religion into society, or at least the beginning to.

He may be quite right on the fact that it is wrong, because we all have become to tolerant, but unfortunately, he overlooked the fact that you can't really implement a uniform religion in a free society."

that was a big talk we have been having on facebook.

I believe, that people should do whatever they want, and be gay if they choose to do so, because we are a free nation, and if we tell them no, are we no better than what the germans had become in WW2?

Biofuels: We need to start using them, as soon as inhumanly possible.

other than that, i wouldn't change a single political law, because sometimes you need to scare people. people need to voice their hating opinions.

Mr. Kay
The most pressing issue the winner of tommorow has to deal with is how to get the jobs back. America is struggling right now and we need jobs back so we can have a better economy. We go over a billion dollars in debt ever day. We are over 10 trillion dollars in debt right now. We have to get out of this debt. Also we have to deal with the war that is going on. This war is not relly solving anything. Another thing that is a issue is gases prices. The gas prices are to high. We need to find a alternative cheaper fuel. I think that the commercials shouldn't beable to be so biaset. They are so biaset they are almost leing.

friday rules dont apply to today, and im sorry about this complication mr.kay, I have time on wednesday if you do not except this assignment..sorry..see you after school!

As for this blog i feel the most pressing issue economy, i think this because their are so many people with out jobs, homes, food, etc etc.. People cant live the same way they use to because they are always watching what they are buying, and making sure they are saving enough for the future. I'm afriad that the history is going to do over again. So this could mean having another depression or something. But not the whole united states has bad economy, but this still applies to the campaign.
And i totally agree with troys blog, when he says were american, buy american, it might save alot of people from losing their job.

mr.kay, have a good day today. if you want to talk to me about this being late, heres my email:

I think the most pressing issue would be the war, and the economy. The winner has to basically start the country fresh. They also have the pressure of fixing everything Bush messed up. There are a lot of people without homes, jobs, or are just struggling to make ends meet. With the war, we really need to just leave Iraq. The winner has to deal with people critizing them for whatever they chose to do. If they pull the troops out, many people will be happy. But also many people may be upset. If i could make a law it would be no false advertising, and they would go to jail for lying. Many candidates say what they will do and don't follow through. I think that is wrong.

Mr. Kay,
First off I thought that you you said the rules about blogging on friday apply. This is my fault. Anyways, I'm sorry for it being late and my email is eftamm@yahoo.com if you would like to contact me about it. On with the blog....

Keep in mind I might go crazy with biased junk in this blog.

I think the most pressing issue by far is the economic crisis we live in these days. Our gas prices have been skyrocketing lately (although...they have been going down in the past few weeks). To solve this problem I think we need to start drilling offshore, and not tax the gas companies more. I don't understand that idea, because if that happens, the oil companies with just end up passing it on to the consumer through higher prices. My dad always says, "Companies don't pay taxes." and I agree with that. Most companies just raise prices to cover the cost and therefore, you and me, the buyers pay the companies taxes. Gas prices aren't the only thing that scares me about the election. I also think higher income taxes is a huge issue. Taht is why I am for McCain, who doesn't want to change the taxes (even though I don't have a steady job yet). Obama thinks socialism is the answer to the poverty in our nation. Isn't that why we formed our own country and people came over from russia and europe - to get away from socialism. Spreading the wealth is not the answer. If you work for your money, you should be able to enjoy it. If I could create a law about campaining I would say they can't start campaining until a year from the election. I think they start way to early, and everyone gets annoyed when the get bombarded with political stuff.

Over all the issues that our president will have to deal with in this up coming term(s), i find the economy in general to be the most pressing. I believe this for many reasons. The biggest being our job industry these days. One great example is the car industry. If you were to look back at all of are american car companies a couple years ago such as GM, Ford, Chrysler and so on they were leading the nation in sales. Now because of the signing of the free trade the amercican car company sales have decreased tremendisly because of the car being sent over from forign car companies such as honda, scion, and so on. Between the to presidents i believe neither have contributed to help stoping the economy decrease. I feel as if they just go from state to state and present different crapp that they will be willing to change for your state if you vote for that candidate. If i were to be able to mention to a president to stop free trade and they did they would have my vote.

The most pressing issue is the war by far, or the economy. People are looking into which one is going to do things to stop global warming and such. Everyone is also talking about Obama bringing the troops home and stuff as well. I personally support that btw. I would make it a law for everyone to own an electrical car, of coarse I would some how some way cut down the prices of those things hahah. I would also make sure there was a law for everyone owning a home, we have way to many homeless people. It doesn't have to be a nice home it can be an itty bitty trailer but yeah.

Mr. Kay,
Could you please excuse the late blog? I couldn't reach a computer until this time.

I think that the two presidential candidates have multiple issues they need to deal with once they are in office. A major issue is the war in Iraq. The country is split between finishing what we started and bringing our troops home. Both decisions are going to have a major impact on our country. They have to think about what is best for our country, our citizens, and think about the reaction of the Iraq government and people. Another pressuring issue Obama and McCain have to face is the current economy in America. Our economy is at a very low point right now and we are depending on the president and government to fix this. One thing I would like to change in campaigning is the slandering advertisements towards the opposite candidate. Both Obama and McCain used these types of advertisements over the course of the years. I think that the candidates should worry about what they have to offer, not what the other candidate supposedly did wrong. I think it just shows that they have to make the other candidate look bad in order to look good.

i think theres two big issues that will be pressed on tomarrows winner. the two are the economy and the war in iraq. both canidates have different views on both topics. the counrtys economy is definatly hurting and i wonder how much getting a new president will help that? i definatly know who i want to win to though. also i wouldnt really change anything about how the campaigning works. i dont really know that much about it but to me it looks like it works pretty well.

I think there are two things that Obama will face.Biggest of all our terrible economy.U.S. is in a lot of debt and im interested in what he will try to do to get us out.Second of all hes gonna have to deal with the pressure of the U.S. counting on him for all of our problems.I would make it so they can pester you as much by calling but would still allow signs, commercials, etc.I would make the debate longer so the president canidites can try harder to make us choose them.

Mr.Kay,
there are a few passing issues tht this years campaign must deal with. The most important issues though are the war in iraq and the economy. I choose these two most because alot of people want the war to end because it is costing us alot of money. I chose the economy also because people are out of work. If i could create a law about campaigning it would be that there are to have no negitive ad's. I wold chose this because when people lie it's hard to tell what's the truth about the person or not.
