Today we discussed American and individual values and how and why ours are similar. When people come from the same community they tend to have similar values. How did you learn your values? Do you think values change over time? Why or why not?
Mr.Kay, I learned my values in a couple ways. One of them was kind of from my family because i went off there values and if i liked them then i kept that value. Also, i learned it from my friends. Since i always talk to them i just took some of there values and kept them. I think values do change in different ways. One reason could be a new family member. Also, if you change jobs, schools, move to a different county, state and rally there are many other ways to change your values.
I learned my values by just thinking of things important and what i have to do. I do think our values change over time. We get older and have new things in are lives. We change over time and we have more important things going on. Are values do change but i dont think we ever forget what are values were when we were younger. They still stay with us but we just get new values and they add on to the old ones. Values will always be with us they just might not be the same.
I learned my values in a few different ways. My family, for the most part, taught me all of my values. They were passed down from their and so on. I have also learned it from my friends and their parents. If you are around a person enough, then you pick up on their values. I also believe that TV influences your values. This may be indirect but it can sway toward any way. I also believe that values can change over time. This is because of either events that occur or something happening to you directly that really bothers you.
The way I learned my values was from my family. I think I learned most of them from my sisters and brother though. My dad moved away when I was 6 and my mom is from New York, so she probably knows nothing of values. I think we remember our values no matter what happens to them. If we forget about them we still know they're there we just dont use or care about them that much. Like if your parents are a value, sooner or later your going to realize that in some way you can over-power them find out that your smarter than them. So you will love them but your values do change at least deciding what comes first in life will. Carolyn Newton Period 5
I learned my values through every day life. I also learned values through family. Most values through family was because they passed them down and I picked up on them. I think values change over time. I think this happens mainly because we learn and do diferent things each day. Some new values may be taught by learning how to respect more and care for people. Other values may come from a new hobby you like etc.
I learned my values from many different people and experiences. I learned most of my values from family and friends. Either by them telling me of an opinion of their's. Or by expressing it in action. I think that values can change over time. One, because i know my values have changed over the course of my life. And two, because over a course of someones life, people change, let it be emotionally or physically.
How did you learn your values? Do you think values change over time? Why or why not?
I learned my values from my parents. From day one I can remember them telling me what good values are. I really do think values change over time. I think that this happens because of the different experiences we go through. Really the older we get the more they're going to change. Your going from liking little wooden blocks with letters on them to liking heavy metal. Or you might just change your views of political views on political parties.
I learned my valeus from my family. I think that all kids learn from thir parents. I think that the values that my parents have are very good. I think that all parents are good. I also learned from my friends. My friends have tought me that it id im.
I learned by values by getting older and realizing what really is important. I think values run in the family. Your parents values will eventually become yours. Values change because as we get older, our views on things change. Such as educaton. Americans values also have changed over time. The things people used to think were importnant, arent important anymore.
I learned my values from mainly my parents. When I was growing up some seemed to work out well so I kept them. However, those ones that later in my life seemed pointless, I dropped them. Also, when my friends had values that were different than mine and seemed to be very important I would think about them. Later on I would add some of those values to mine. If you go through a big change then new values work its way in. Like if you moved or someone died then you would change your values to fit your new lifestyle. It would kinda be like adapting. What once seemed unimportant, you may later realize you really care about it. Kristen Pauly 6th hour
I learned my vaues from a couple of things. For example I learned my values from whats important to me. like my friends and family they are my value because i care a bout them alot. My values also came from the way i was raised so my parents taught them to me and gave me values. I think that over time your value could change. For example if you moved somewhere else you would have the exact same values, they would just be different. There could be a new family member that you have so that would be another value in your life.
Mr. Kay, I had a bunch of different ways of learning my values. The first would be learning values from my parents, even though my parents are divorced I still have learned a lot of values. Another way I learned values was from my own mistakes. Once I knew how it felt to lose a value that I cared a lot about, I knew that what happened, happened and its cool with me because now that value means a lot more to me. I have learned certain values by what my friends have told me. By what my heart has told me. And by events that made me stop and really think about what would happen if I lost that certain value. I do think that values change, but I think it depends on the person. If the person has set values I think it will take a lot of time before any of those values change.
I learned my values from my parents. They taught me many values. Like good manners, and my rights as an american. But as I grew I made many friends who each had different opinions. They taught me about their VALUES. As they did, my values changed. That is why I believe that values change over time.
I have learnd most of my value from my mom. I have also learnd my values from friends and school. some of my value I learnd from making mistakes. orthers I have learned from life. I think that some values can change it just depends on the person and why. because one person might not change his or he value in the belef that you should not change values. now the other people may change their values just because that spicific value might not mean anything to them anymore.
Over time i developed many different values. I believe i picked up these values from and for many different reasons. Some values such as pride for my country and law following was picked up as a value just because of my feelings torward america like most of the people. Other values such as friends and family are picked up personaly because of my love torward them. I also believe that values can be changed ove time. I believe this because at one point i may feel open and have no problem with a law. And later on i feel as if that law shall be inforced do to certain reasons.
My values come from everyone I meet. Wether or not there my freind/family. I belive that we are a peice of everyone we meet so everything that I have learned and heard and seen, effects what I feel is a value. Over time our values do change, sometimes for the right reason and sometimes wrong. When I say that i mean that maybe are values changed because we wanted to fit in with freinds. I think that values change because when we learn more about something we start to think about it diffrently. Also when things in our life change we change with them wether where you live, or where you go to school.
I think that I have learned my values from my parents and family. Because I am with my family the most I have picked some of their values up. My friends have some of the same values that I have either influenced them to have, or they have influenced me to have. Where I used to live I had different values because the scenery and the way of life is different. I used to have values there that I dont have where I live now for various reasons. One value that I have learned from just being in high school is the value of self opinion. I now know that what I think is important to me and I shouldnt let anyone affect what I think and say.
I learned my valuesfrom my parents mostly. I also learned them from the other elders in my family. And maybe some in school. I do think that values change over time. Because a value is an opinion. Not everyone agrees with what there parents think or who ever tought them there values. Everyone thinks differently so values will change over time.
When you are young you get your values from numerous places. It could be from your parents, your friends, or from someone famous. Personally, I get the majority of my values from my family. If I do something wrong they have always taught me right from wrong. Honestly, I believe that everyones values change over time. As kids we are unsure of a lot so as we mature over time I belive our values change also. I believe that no matter who you are you're values will change eventually. Jordan Blanzy 5th hr
Mr. Kay I learned my values from my parents and my close friends. My parents really influenced the values that i now have. Since i talk to my friends alot, hearing some of their values made me change mine in a way. I think that values can change but for the most part they're not the major ones like freedom unless you move to a different country. I think that if you move out of state or to a new school that the new people you are surrounded by can have more of an impact on you than you know. Being around people that you don't know can make you realize what other peoples values might be. I think that your values mostly stay the same only if you want them to. Cody Kabisa 6th hour
i think that is very true. you get your values and perspective of things around you from the people you are with all the time. people can have such an impact on one another. when i was younger i got a lot of my values from my parents and close family. now i get most of them from my friends and school. i still have mostly the same values i used to, i have just added on to them. but some have changed over time after i relized what is really important in life. lauren dawson 5th hour
Mr. kay I learned my values from my family. They past there values down to me and I plan to keep them. I have learned alot from them and I plan to use what they have tought me. I think values do change over time. When you get older you have different responiblities. Therefor you should have differnet values. Also you now are intruduce new values. Like having a job and a house, and voting rights. So you gain some values and lose some. Chris Reid 5th hour
Mr. Kay, I learned my values in a few different ways. One kind of way is from my friends, I'm always with them so we talk a lot so we share most of the same values. Also, a huge way I learned my values is from my family. My brother is one of my heros so I tend to like what he does, so I usually lean more to his values then anyone elses. I think values can change in many different ways. Someones values can change if you change your group of friends, schools, or if you move on a different side of the town. YOu can pick up someones values and make them yours. All together your values can change over time.
I learned my values in many different ways. Some are from my family and my friends. Do values change over time? Yes i think so.I think this because, we change over time, we have different dislikes and likes as the day goes on. It can also change when something becomes less important to you and something else becomes more intersting to you. You can also gain interest in something todally different.
I learned my values in a lot of ways and from many different people. I mostly learned my values from my family. I think I learned my values from my parents because I am so used to looking up to them and seeing what they do. Many of our elders have a lot of values because they know what is going on in our country. I think values could change in many ways if you them to. One way a value could change is when you have a kid or a family member moves in with you. Another could be you growing up and understanding things more and knowing what they mean. This is why I think values do cahnge.
I have learned my values in a couple of ways. One of them is threw my family, they have taught me to respect others. And when i make a commitment they have taught to me to sick to it. i think values can change beacuse we change over time. People change who they are. And their goals. People add on new values and leave the old ones. everyones values will change in a matter of time. Values will always stick with us even if they change.
I learned my values the way most people do; from my parents. It is said that you will grow up to resemble your parents, and for the most part, that is true. My parents taught me many things including that I should always be kind to people, and I should persist even if the odds don't look good. I believe values can change over time. This is because everyone changes their goals at some point, and because we need to adapt to the things around us. Values can be mentally added or removed too. For example, if someone has to go to rehab for substance abuse, usually they come out with more respect and other things like that.
I believe that people who live in the same community do most of the time share common values. Because of their enviroment they live in their priorities tend to be the same. I learned my values from my parents, the others I picked up on the way. I believe that many peoples values change over time. But thats not always the case sometimes people never change their values. Then theres the people who change some values and keep the others. Either way values and values any way you learned them.
There are many ways i learned my values. But the main infunece was my parents, parents haved rasied you to who you are now. This being said they tell you what right or wrong which then affects your values. ALOT of values cahnge over time even more than other places in America. I belive this beacause with every gerantion comes new habits and views on life. This in turn affects how and what people belive to be important in their life. No matter what values are changing every day and every year.
Mostly I have learned my values from my parents, and other family. When I was younger they always taught me different things, I would never think that I would still use them today. When I was growing up I have been around many different people, and they have had all kinds of values. So lately I have thought about them, and decided to use them for myself. Also, I believe that values can change over a period of time. Something you may have thought was pointless, you can realize that it is actually important and help you later on in life. Learning values from your family, and friends is just a couple of examples. There are many other was that you can learn values from.
Values can be learned from a handful of different places. Whether you learned them through you parents, friends, or developed them yourself, they all start somewhere. For example, your parents may teach you to be courteous and respectful, yet a friend may teach you loyalty and indifference. Some self-developed values could be individuality, self-confidence, and self-respect. I feel that, through time, values on both the individual, community, and even national scale may change. Some event may occur that makes you think differently of how you living your life, wish something was different about you or the ones around you, or any other of a very large list of possibilities; Moving changes the peers you value, wars separate pro-war and pro-peace individuals (each valuing war and peace respectively), etc. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you live, your values will change throughout your life, some for the better, others for the worst.
Tyler McLeod 6th Hour I learned my values as I grew older. When I was little I didnt have too many values.Besides be god and follow the rules. As I got older and learned a little more I got to know that I need more than just being good to get me somewhere in life.I definitely think values chnge over time. Before even reading a blog on this I thought of it.As you grow you dont want the same thing your whole life.Eventualy it will just be there you still may believe in it but there may be other things of importance. Some people on the oer hand may not change their values.Thats not my decision thou.I know my values will change as I grow old whether going for a promotion to going int retirement.
People change over time, and their values change with them. When I keep on changing, my values revolve around the normal things. Friends, very close family, a roof over my head, and a job I could live with that pays well. Sure, sounds a little too plain, but I could live with that. I don't demand a high maintenance living or a super expensive home.I just want to be able to live doing the things I do. Mom says I'll be a starving artist. Dad says I won't get anywhere at the rate I'm going. But my values, which do not include school, since it's force feeding us a bunch of useless information, will support me somewhere down the road. I just hope I can make it there.
One last addition to my list of values: I value my life, since i do not feel safe, nor comfortable in school. Thanks.

I learned my values mostly from my parents. There are very few kids that don't learn their values from their parents. I learned my values from my parents because I listen to them more than anyone else. It seems like parents rub off their beliefs and values onto their kids. I think values change when you're older because most people move out of their parents house. When you're older you will watch the news with out the comentary of your parents, and you will be able to think for yourself. Another big aspect that changes your values is your job. Like if you become a teacher you will mostly vote liberal whether or not you agree with the president but it's for the best of your career.
I learned my values in a few different ways. I learned some of my values from my family. I didn’t keep all of them just the ones I liked. I also have gotten some of my values from my friends. Allot of my friends have some of the same values like football and baseball. I think that your values change over time. Anything could change your values. I think simple thing like a hair cut could change your values.
Mr. Kay, I have learned my values many different ways by teachers and friends. But most of all my parents and family have taught me most of my values. Values can change over time in some people. As you get older your values could change. And usually they change for the worse. With peer pressure many teens loose their good values. Another way your values could change would be if you started hanging out with new friends and they dont have the same values your old friends have.
I learned most of my values from my family. Some by working like the worth of money and what hard works actually means. And respect people and treat them how you would want to be treated. I think values change over time becuase. What kid knows the value of money untill they have earned it? I dont really think I knew what hard work was till thi year. When I worked a few days that where 9 hours long. those are values that changed for me as I got older and learned hard work is a good way to get money.
I learned my values from my family. Most of my values and beliefs come from my parents because they are always around and have taught me a lot of things. Another person that has taught me a lot is my grandma. She can really relate to me and is really smart. Some of my values have also come from my older cousins because I always used to look up to them when I was young. I think values change depending on the situation you are in. In different situations, people respond differently and the same is true about values.
American and individual values are similar because we we as Americans help make and are influenced by these values. When people live in the same community they normally have similar outlooks on life. Therefore they share common values. The people that live around you may not receive the same amount of money but for the most part share the same values. I learned most of my values from my parents. Yes i believe values can change over time. For example As a child you trust everyone. Then your friend steals from you causing you to rethink your value.
When I was younger I mainly learned my values from my family. I still do have many of the values that my parents gave me. However, as I got older, I started to develop my own values from various people that had influenced me. This is why I think values can change over time. A person can be inspired by others and gain new values. Also, different events can change your values. Like Mr. Kay had said, a addition to your family may be the reason. Another reason could be an experience or you heard the other thoughts on the situation and it changed your opinion. Whatever the case may be, I do think values can change over time. Cherie Stoll 6th Hour
i learned my values from my parents, friends, or just people im around alot. but mostly from my parents. i think values are instilled on you at a very young age. like what you see people doing or values your family is used to. i definatly think your values change over time becuase your always learning new things and changing. like today in class you said your veiwpoint on the death penalty changed when you had kids. so life altering things that happen to you could cause you to think differently.
I learned my values from people who have made an impact on my life. My parents, friends, family, and even coaches have made up some of my values. I think values do cahnge over time because of, all the places you will be in your life time. School, the work force, and in public, can all change your values because their values can relate to you. Religion could change your values by, abiding by the rules fo that religion. School can change your values by, being surrounded by so many different people, you could pick up some of their values. Values can change really quick due to influencial ideas, or people.
I learned in a couple different ways. First, my family has taught me many of my values. I think that because you are around them the most and learn the most about life from them, you tend to have many of the same values as them. Secondly, I have learned values from a few of my close friends. Just like I said with family memebers, when you are around somebody so much, you tend to accept and have some of the same values as them. I believe that values can change from time to time. I do not believe that most values can just change suddenly and drastically, but that they change a little bit over time. I think that with life experiences, you can change your ideas about certain values. For example, as you grow older and become more knowledgable in areas such as politics, you can change your ideas on what politicians stand for and the values they have.
You learn your values from who you spend most of your time with. Who you grow up with, who you make friends with, or maybe just people you are around. I learned my values from my parents when i was little. When i got older i picked up values from friends. Values change for everyone. You grow up, and change the way you think. But some values will stay with you for the rest of your life.
Relating back to an earlier blog. We talked about our parents and how they teach their children. One of the things they teach or try to pass on is values. Values were a thing that my parents tried to teach me. They always said "think about this, because it will really mean something someday." Values always have the possibility of changing. Whether its history, personal experience, or someone changing your mind. I also think that values might not always change, just the way we interpret them do.
"Today we discussed American and individual values and how and why ours are similar. When people come from the same community they tend to have similar values. How did you learn your values? Do you think values change over time? Why or why not?"
I believe i have learned my values over the course of my life, and to this day, i still am learning them. I am constantly rethinking them, and thinking of more things i should value in the world. I believe i learned my values through a lot of things that have influenced my life. not only people, but things in this world. an example is that i force myself not to litter, to conserve energy and recycle. i learned that from just seeing all this trash on the ground, and i said to myself, if i can intervene and fix this, i will. I also believe that, as my group wrote today, that my values can not be changed by others ideas, or opinions. but, your values can change depending on your ideas or opinions about a certain subject.
I believe your individual value will change more than our american values, but i believe that all values may change over time. I know that certain values inside all of us are unchangeable, even by us, but i believe that you will rethink your own values over time, and that as a country, when we have a generation shift (all us kids are running the world), that our values will change very much so. an example of a value i believe will change is that people will expect the nature of sex to be more of a lenient thing, where as our parent were raised to wait till marriage before they engaged in sexual activities. the reason i believe this will change, is because a lot of tens these days haven't been raised in that manner, where they should wait. as tyler wrote today, if a kid want to have sex in todays world, he pretty much would be able to get instant gratification for his wants. that value to me is the biggest change i think will happen in the generation shift. now i know a lot of kids do not really want to go on to the very touchy subject of sex (no pun intended), but i believe that now that someone has spoken about it, i hope to see that kids might value this essential human activity more sacred than their pre-concieved ideas about sex.
Mr Kay, I have primarily learned my values from family. I have been mainly taught by family because I went off their values. They have always valued family and friends so that's what I primarily cared about. I believe values can change over time by almost anything important. If you move to a new place you may value different things due to new things coming in to your life, or you may realize you valued something else. An example could be if I moved to California, I probably wouldn't realize until I got there that I value having seasons. I also could move to a bad place and then value safety when i get there. This is how values can change and who taught me my values. -Luke LaFoutain 6th Hour
I learned my values from my mom. I also got some of my values from my friends. Values change in many ways. some could be from family, friends, or even just from what you heard about on tv or the radio. You can even get some new values from your work place. Samantha Casteel 5th hour

My family taught me my values because they were the ones that raised me, and taught me from right and wrong. My friends taught me my values because i'm around them a lot and they tell me their values, so they influence me in that way. I do belive that values chang over time. Because as you get older your values could change, for example, instead of a value of going to college, it could be getting a job. Another reason is you could move or change your group of friends, and their values could influence your values.

I learned my values from my parents and my close friends. I think that your values mostly stay the same only if you want them to.

i think that is very true. you get your values and perspective of things around you from the people you are with all the time. people can have such an impact on one another. when i was younger i got a lot of my values from my parents and close family. now i get most of them from my friends and school. i still have mostly the same values i used to, i have just added on to them. but some have changed over time after i relized what is really important in life.

I learned my values from my family.

Mr. Kay,
I learned my values in a few different ways.
Later,

I learned my values as I grew older.

Mr. Kay,
I have learned my values many different ways by teachers and friends.

Whatever the case may be, I do think values can change over time.

i learned my values from my parents, friends, or just people im around alot. but mostly from my parents. i think values are instilled on you at a very young age. like what you see people doing or values your family is used to. i definatly think your values change over time becuase your always learning new things and changing. like today in class you said your veiwpoint on the death penalty changed when you had kids. so life altering things that happen to you could cause you to think differently.

Mr Kay,
I have primarily learned my values from family.

Mr. Kay,
I learned my values in a couple of ways. One way was from my family. And one was from my friends.
