I hope you enjoyed class today. Grammar is not the most exciting but I promise as we get into literature and more discussion it will become apparent how interesting this will be.
Today, I want you to think about the values your parent(s) have tried to instill in you. Then, comment on the value of being a parent. Why do people become parents and why do they value you as their child? As discussed last year in To Kill A Mockingbird, put yourself in their shoes for a moment and think of the triumphs and the frustrations of parenting and yet why becoming a parent is such a key value in our society.

Mr Kay,
Many people classify parenting as necesity in living. Although for some it is a challenge. I think that people become parents for this reason, that they know how to raise a child to be a good person. This child is now supossed to be a reflection of their parents. Parents value their kids because they were once kids in many situations that their kids are in now. Many parents want their children to be a good kid and want them to live a good life. By the parents valuing a child they are wanting them to live a better life with thye knowledge that the parents already know.

I think many people become parents to pass on what they know. They want to teach there childern right from wrong. They become parents to teach there kids what they have learned through there life. Many parents values there kids because they no what there going through. They no what advice to pass down to there kids. Alot of parents want someone to pass down eduation and life situations to.

Mr. Kay,
Parenting is a very important aspect. When a person looks at a kid or teenager and sees that they are lazy and a very unthankful and immature kid, then they think that that person wasnt raised right and its the parents that messed them up. So being a parent is very important to not only to their child, but also the reflection of themselves as parents. It definately is nice when your parents have gone through the same setbacks as you have and can relate to you in anyway you may need them to. Parenting is a place for a very mature person. You need to be able to provide for yourself, plus for another kid.

Mr.Kay,
Many people become parents, they want to teach their children what they were taught. Maybe, they want to teach what they weren't taught. All parents were their childrens age at one point, so they know what they go through, so they give them good advice. Parents value their children, they want them to have it better then they did. So the parents put their children before everything and everyone.

I want to become a parent so I can feel like I influnced someones life. I think that vaules dont matter. I feel like if you only influnce 1 person then you are a good person. A question I have for you is as if a teenager has values. Then do babies have them too? Sometimes I do have values but they don't run my life.

Parenting is a large part of life. From taking your child from birth and turning them in to a grown man or woman. All parenting is taught the same and handed down from generation to generation. I believe that every person in this world should love and appreciate there parents and every thing that they have done for that person. Not only appreciate them but look up to them and watch how they treat you. Watching this will help you out in the future because not only will you have to run your own house. But you might evan have the responsability of running a house with a husband/wife and children.

I think parenting is necesery. It may sometimes be a challange because of the struggle with money. People have children to prove that they are responsible and capable of taking care of another life. Parents value there kids becase they have been in their shoes. Parents want their kids to have a special chiled hood and to be responiseable.

I think being parent is something almost everyone wants to become. So some values are you get pass n the generation of your family and enjoy having a son.You get to watch them grow up!Wheter your accidently made or whether your intentionally made your parents love and dont want see you "mess up in life".They will care no matter what if not then they shouldnt have became a parent. The parents may get frustrated but i think life will move on.So if you are going to make baby think of the long haul.

Many people become parents because of friends thatsay it's great having a kid. Some become parents because they want to raise someone that'll be just like them. In this area i have to agree with what Zack szajner said, that the "child is now supposed tobea reflection of their parents" (4th sent.). Parents value their kids for many reasons. One, because they don't want them to get hurt. And two, they want their child to have a happy and successful life. That is what i believe.

my parents have had seven great values, and of course saving the best for last:) But honestly you have kids cuz thats how life goes. you finish high school, graduate college, get married and what next? You have kids, it's just what you do. Although that maybe wasn't my parents exact plan in life they still have great values. Everyday we have something new to laugh about, and something new to fight about. They are so kind and caring with their children it sometimes amazes me. My parents teach me how to me a kinder person everyday. How to be a little bit more level head, but still think for myself. Parents are sometimes frustrating but in the end they always know your best intrest.
Andrew Keith (Im short on time)
Some values my parents have tried to instill within me...respect for others, care for education, cleanliness, just to name a few. I believe some chose to parent through instinct, others through their confidence in raising children and love for life. Values are taught to children in an attempt to raise a "good person". The child is a reflection of the parent, as one that is "lazy" or "incapable" may lead others to think their parents failed as "raising (s)he properly. Knowledge can be passed from parent to child, as is another aspiration of parenting. The satisfaction in knowing you made a difference in someones life or in knowing you helped out is a great feeling.
I think people become parents because they think it is part of life. Also, i may be part of their religion to raise a family. They go to school, get married, and raise a family. Some might just want to have children. Most parents try to teach their kids values, so they will live a better life. They are trying to help them make good choices. By doing this, you have to show them values.

Parents want their kids to be good kids, do the right things. Parents value their kids because they were kids once and they dont want us to make the same bad decisions that they made. They try to teach us to do the right thing. People are parents so that they can teach their children to be good peopole. Parents all ready know how to be a good person so they want to teach their kids what they know.Sometimes im sure being a parent can be very frustrating because kids dont always listen to their parents. But they try to do their best so we can live our life as a good person.

Being a parent is extremly important. They are shapeing the future by how they raise their kids. I think that people want to become a parent because they feel like there life has a purpose. Also, they will leave a little bit of themselves here by giving their children the same values and morals as them. It would be extremly frustrating if a parent tried to get the child ready to be independent and the child was ungrateful. However when a parent watches their child achieve something, they probually can't help feeling triumphant and proud. Society is based on the quality of parenting, it all depends on how they were raised.

Parents are the reason for us being the people we are today. Parenting is so important because they are the first to influence their child and teach them morals. I think people become parents because they want to care for and love a child of their own. That is why parents value their children so much, because we are our own person and their child. Once that person becomes a parent, they then want nothing but the best for them and to raise them to be the best that they can be. I think this is where parenting becomes frustrating. You can teach them all you know, but in the end it is up to the child to make the decision for themselves, and sometimes its not the best decision. Then the parents are then left to wonder what they did wrong or what they didnt do, which isn't the case at all. The triumphs of parenting are plentiful. Seeing you child sucseed or just being happy is a triumph in my opinion.

Many people become parents because they want to show kids how to be responsible and respectful. My parents love and respect me. In return, I show them the same values. Parents value their kids because they were kids too. They want their kids to have it better than they did. Parents value kids that learn good morals. Parents learn from their mistakes so they teach their kids not to make the same mistakes.

I think parents try to pass on the values that will give us a successful life. Values such as work ethic, a good attitude, and an open mind. As a parent, I would want to give my kid the same values. A good work ethic will drive you to do your best. A good attitude means that no matter how many times you fall in life , you can always pick yourself back up and try again. An open mind gives you the skill to listen to another point of view and use that to better yourself. My parents taught me these values probably becuase they followed them too and it worked for them.
Mr. Kay,
Well I think that people become parents because they want to carry on traditions and have a family. Parents value there kids because we make great tax deductions. Just kidding. Okay seriously I think that parents value their kids because their a part of them and the want the most for them. And also they see there kids as them when they where younger and see all the oppurtunitys avalible now.

i think the values on being a parent start with responsabilty. following with respect, trust and love. by respection your kids will show them how to be a reall parent, unlike my parents i wouldnt classafie them as parents. some times i feel like i juat want to run away but i can.
My parents push many values on me like being truthful and working hard. Being a parent has it values such as knowing that you are rasing a child. People become parents to enjoy them and to see them grow up. My parents value me as their son beascue i have livied up to what they execpt from me. If i was a parent i would be very proud of my child though everything they do. Becoming a parent is so inmportant beacuse it keeps the family alive and theworld going. Even if its hard parenting i belive would be worth it in the end.

If I was a parent i would want my child to know that they can tell me anything and that I will listen to them even if i am mad at them. Sometimes i wish my parents would care less about some of the things that i do, but its not like i have a say in it. I know there just trying to protect me but sometimes I just want to make a mistake and learn from it by myself.

Some of the values my parents have tried to instill on me are my religion, family, and education. I think some values of being a parent are putting your kids before your career. Parents should value their kids because they really are the best thing to happen to someone. As part of the values of being a parent, you should also teach your children manners and help them with their parents. People become parents because they want someone to watch over and love. And sometimes accidents just happen. Haha. No but values are important to parents when it comes to children.

Mr. Kay,
Mr parents have tried to instil many values in my life. They have taught me to enjoy life and be nice to everyone whenever you can. The reason we all want to become parents is because we want to pass on our own personal values to our offspring. Parents often go through frustrating times but I belive in the end its all worth it. Parents to to make you the best person you can be. Kids dont realize when there young just how much they need their parents. They dont appreciate that until they get older.

Mr.Kay,
My parents have instilled many values in my life. Then I hope to pass on later in my life to my kids. The value of being a parent is once their kid is old enough people like their kid and say he is a good person. I think people become parents because they want to pass on good traits to another generation and they value there child because he is the only Gary Tiger in the world as an example. Becoming a parent is such a key part to society because that is one more person to hopefully help out in the future when old enough. Also its good because they can create new things and be smarter because they have more technology. Lastly, becoming a parent is or should be one of the most important things in everyones lives.
Becoming a parent is a part of life. Although if you don't value your child and you just let them do what they want, they might not learn many important lessons needed in the future. Smart parents try to teach their children resoect and honesty. I think people become parents because they want to pass on their name and they think they are mature enough to raise a child. Parents value their children because they know what it's like to grow up and become an adult so your parents try to get you ready for the future. I try to do everything that my parents say so that one day I can be a successful adult. Without parents I don't think kids would know what to do with their lives, and they would be screwed up when they're older.
Mr. Kay,
Parenting is definitely considered a daily challenge, everyday there's something new that you have to help your child go through. We are who we are today because of what our parents have done for us our entire lives. It may be difficult at times when the child seems ungrateful, and unappreciated, but at the end of they day they'll always be there for you, until the end. Many parents have been in the same situations that we have been/are in/ maybe one day will be in. I believe that a parent values there child, wanting them to have a great life. A child can always reflect off of there parent. What I have learn from my parents is, we have always came first to them.

A value that my parents have instilled in me is to value my family. Your family might not always be their so they thought me to be respectful and value there company. The value of being a parent is that you can help your child or children to learn and grow. I think people become parents because they love children. They want to pass on what they learned onto another human being. I think that becoming a parent is so important in today's society because of the fact of having a family and living the "American Dream". When a parent values a child it is so they will help their child through the struggles of life.

Mr. Kay,
My parents have taught me many values in my life. The most important ones that they instilled in me are valuing your family, education, and friends. Being a parent is an extremely valuable thing. You are giving birth to a child and caring for it. Although parenting is frustrating as you hear from your parents, that's how life is. Parenting is a long life lesson. My parents value me because I am their only son and they view me and my sister as special people because we are their children. Parenting is a key part in our society because it keeps the population in the world going. Without parents, there would be no more children. Without parenting, there would be chaos throughout society.

Being a parent brings lots of fun as well as a lot of responsibility. Parents must not only teach there children how to walk and talk but they must also teach them how to be responsible. Parents teach there children this so that if something happens you will know how to react and do the right thing. People value there children because they want them to grow and be successful. To be successful the parent must pass there knowledge on to there child so they can be the best they can be. In society it is very important to value are youth. The youth will grow old and soon they will rule the world using the knowledge you taught them.

Becoming a parent has many frustrations but just as many satisfactions. Dealing with children who are ungrateful is an example of frustrating parenthood. My parents have taught me to behave and be responsible. And having me do that i think is why they value me as their child. Parenting is a big factor of society without people becoming parents we wouldn't be able to have different generations. I think that every child should appreciate and look up to their parents for everything they have done. A triumph for a parent could be when their child grows up to be a hard working responsible person of society.

in my life one of my values is life. life it is what is every day live.another value is freedome. somthing that people in this country take for granted.
I think that good parenting is really important. I think it is good for the children and teenagers so the parents can guide there offspring to not make the same mistakes they did so they can be that much better than there parents. I think parents value there children because there children are a direct reflection of them so if they do a good job and the children are good it reflects on the parents.

My parents have positive values for themselves that they have taught to me. They have taught me to stay strong in my faith, work hard, always put your full effort and heart into everything, and etc.. I believe that people become parents to pass on what they learned from their parents and their own experiences. It is a very satisfying feeling to know that you influenced somebody's life positively, and parents have that oppertunity with their children. They can teach their kids positive values and live by them. Although it does not mean that their kid will necessarily follow their example all of the time, parents can still help them learn when they mess up. The different lessons that kids learn from parents reinforces values and stay with them for a lifetime.

Parenting is very important. My parents had 2 great values. I think parenting is a thing mostly everyone will go through. Its just another step in life. Of course you have lists of things to do before coming a parent. My family has four people in it. We always have fun, and were always laughing. Everyday theres something to or some story we all share. Even though parenting can be a hard thing to handle and very stressful, my parents always find a way to make our family stay strong, and get along.
I think that parenting is a need to everyones life. Parenting is to pass on what you know to the next generation but at the same time make it better. Parenting also should provide the child a proper respect to life and things in it. Some parenting is difrent from family to family. Some kids may be taught to be greety and respect no one besides them selves when others are more careing and respect people more. This all depends on how you raise a kid. I was always taught to have maners and respect my family because I guess my parents thought it was best.

My Parents have two values. many people graduate and have kids, parents want to have kids. to teach them rite from wrong. as i grew up my parents were always telling me what the rite thing to do, and what is wrong. so that when i grow up i can teach my kids the same. when you look at someone and see the way they behave, you can tell if they were raised rite or not. thats what i believe.
My parents always wanted me to be the almost-best-of-the-best. A sort-of-achiever. Even though that value is only coming into effect nowadays.
I think people become parents because they want to teach someone close to them to learn what they have learned. To let them know what mistakes they shouldn't make.
Parents love their children because they had a child for to love them in return. That's why I'm here, that's why I try to love my parents even when I'm upset with them.
My parents probably find me as a difficult human being, so I can understand the hardships of being in their position.
I think the only reason society values parenthood is because A)a lot of children are seriously injured or killed either by accident or shootings; and B)the government can't kill EVERY unwanted child from all of these teen pregnancies. Along with that, the hundreds of children born each day overpopulate the earth even more than it already is.

My parents have given me a lot of good values that I know will stay with me forever like beliefs about life, education, and religion. Being a parent is very important for that reason. As a parent, you are responsible for bringing up a child and preparing them to go off on their own and be successful in life. People value their children because they become protective of their children. I can understand that but sometimes I would want to kill my kid for the way they act. I know that I am not always the nicest to my parents. But we're family and family forgives and moves on. That's important with kids, you have to love them for all their little imperfections.

As discussed last year in To Kill A Mockingbird, put yourself in their shoes for a moment and think of the triumphs and the frustrations of parenting and yet why becoming a parent is such a key value in our society."
In my lifetime, my parents have enforced many values upon me, and most of them, i had agreed with and accepted. the ones that disagreed with, i believe i have discussed with my parents why i do not side with them on a certain issue, and in most case, the accepted it. now, those disagreements, were not of anything really bad in society, but they were just the way my parents thought, and i did not like some of the things they believed, and that was the just of that.
now on the values of becoming a parent, you are helping society (and also yourself) by completing the circle of family life. what i mean by this is that most people come from a family, and when you do so, when you grow up and become a parent, you are helping generations continue on, and your helping the next tomorrow.
Now most parents become so, for many reasons, wether it be the want to have a child, to the simple fact that they can create a new life. and most parents value you as their child, because they know that they put in so much more effort for you than you will ever know; and if they were to lose you, i know see why parents find it as a tragedy. they just lost something they created, they lost the biggest investment in their life, and unfortunately, when some people go down that road of lose, the sad fact is that they can not get over that fact. which i would believe to be a very traumatic incident in ones life.
Some people may find kids to be a burden, and others might find them to be a blessing. some people will live on the simple fact that they have a mini human being, that they can create to be in the image of anything they want. so people just like the feeling that they can teach a child something, and later on, love the fact that they were able to teach that to them, and yet they still use that skill today. Of course with the triumphs of teachings, there are also the many frustrations. mainly those of when children do something wrong, and the parents have little patience for them. unfortunately, i was a child in that situation, as I was always being yelled at for not understanding something, or not getting something right.
now when we are on the subject of continuing families, i want to make a note, that as much as you do not want to end up like one of your parents, you unfortunately will resemble them. in the end, you became the person you have learned to love and hate, and let me tell you, there is not a lot of options for you to change these lifestyle factors.
thank you Mr.Kay for these questions, because i am again asked to remember the early times in my life, as well as my current life, and i like how i have the ability to be asked to compare these two, because it brings back the greatest of memories.

I think people want to become parents because they enjoy having someone to pass on the values they learned in their life. Being a parent is difficult, as displayed in To Kill A Mockingbird, however it is a key role because in our society, we need young people to inherit the values. The values my parents would always repeat when I was younger were to treat others the way you want to be treated, and so as I say and not as I do. They become parents because they want to teach their children their ways and they want to have a family. They value you as a child because you are a part of them to listen and carry on what they have taught you. Triumphs of becoming a parent would be seeing your childs success and knowing you were a part of it. Frusterations would be when your kids get in to trouble and then you have to deal with it. But becoming a parent is key in our society because it is a sign of maturity and responsibilty that others in our society expect.
