Day 2

Today we listened to a cheesy song entitled "Holy Ground." As I stated in class, I do not look at the word holy as a religious term here but more as sacred. I am hoping that my classroom will be sacred to each of you; a place where you can feel comfortable in learning about English and about life. A place you can come to in good times and if you need help.

Today, I would like you to respond to the lyrics of the song. What was the author trying to say or how did you interpret this idea of of holy or sacred? Do you have places in your life that are holy and sacred? Where are they and why do they make you feel this way?

Mr. Kay,
I believe that this was stating that the entire world is one. It's not all about individual people by themselves. It's about people coming together and abut how everyone is the same. We all have emotions and feelings and have similar characteristics that make us one kind. At the end of the day, no one person is better because we all live our own lives. The places that I hold sacred in my life are my house and my cabin. This is where I get away from everything that stresses me out. There isn't any school or friends, they're just nice places to relax and get away.

I think it means the everyone is really just the same. To never feel like your alone because really your not. The place where i feel is special to me is my house. Its were you can be yourself and relax. There will always be a place where you love and thats nice to just be yourself.

I think that the lyrics to Holy Ground is expressing that everyone and everything is significant. The holy ground is a place where you can express who you are. I also belive that the word holy in these lyrics do not nessisarily refer to a religion. I think that the writer is comparing the word holy to things of importantance. Craig Taubman writes, "All of it is holy ground." The places that I find holy in my life are the places where I am with my family, because that is where I feel most at home.

Mr kay,
I believe in sacred would be a more appropriate word to characterize this song. Its not only to be recognized by a certain people or groups. It is meant for all people. I believe sacred places are churches, schools and ice rinks. I believe that these places are sacred because they are places in my life that have made a great interest to me. Ice rinks have been a way of life for me and has kept me out of trouble. They have been a thing that has changed my life, and i believe that i should treat everything that has to do with the sport with respect because it has done so much for me.

I think that this song was trying to say that evryone has something that is special and intruiging about them. Whether it be that they are good in sports or good in school or whatever they are good at. Its saying that we all are special and we all have our own holy ground. Some believe their home is sacred, a family place, or a battleground some where. When I get stressed or freaked out about something I usually go out and walk around in the woods or around my house to just relax and enjoy the natural world to help me calm down. When I am there I am all alone and there is no one to interrupt what I am thinking or doing.

I believe that the song is trying to say that some places should just be at peace, or your peace. The places i hold sacred in my heart are my church and my home. My church because I grew up believeing that there was more in this world then you and me. My home because it is simply a place of comfort, where you can truly be your self. these places are what makes me the people i am today. I can just relax and always know that im at peace. These are my sacred places.

i think the song was trying to express something that most people don't see.it is indiscribable how our world works as one. when he says it is holy ground, i belive that he is saying that everyone thinks of a place that they will always feel safe.also to have us open our eyes and respect the place we live. my holy place would be my room and the woods. my room lets me get away from all the stresses in my house and the woods help me just relax and think without interuptions.

Mr. Kay,
I believe that sacred is the better word to use. In the song i think he is trying to say that everyone has different talents. I know that when i get stressed or am pissed off that i have that "sacred" place. Either I go to the golf course or take a walk in the woods. I prefer the golf course because i can take my anger out on the ball and in a non-violent way. It really helps me when there is a place i can go where no one will interrupt my thoughts. Cody Kabisa

I think the writer was trying to say that everything you see is sacred or holy. He says to relax in this sacred place, but to treat it with respect. Your class is fun and is probably the only room with normal temperature so I think I will be comfortable to learn there, too. I don't really feel comfortable in a lot of places. Frankly, there's a lot of weird people around today. I guess my room or the beach is where I can be myself. Music is also like a "Holy Ground" to me because Foo Fighters make the best music to listen to whatever my mood is and they basically kick butt.

I think what author was trying to say was that everybody has that one place that's sacred to them. So in a way the author's saying that we're all the same. Aplace that's sacred to me is the beach by my house. I like it because i can go there to think about things and it's quiet cuz nobody swims there. My other place is my room cuz' i'm comfortable in there. My last sacred place is at my cousins house because i've been there a lot and i know a lot of their friends.

I think that what the author is trying to say is people, no matter where you are or who you are, you can always find something in common. That everything is sacred because they all affect you. Also that you can find comfort in unlikely places or people. You never know who or what will become important to you so you must treat them with respect and take care of them like they are sacred. One of my sacred places is my home. In my home I have no worries, i can do what I like to do without any judgment. I think that being able to relax is what makes something sacred.

Mr. Kay,

I believe that though people may seem or look different on the outside, they're really not, they are just like you and me. Not any one person is better than another, we are all alike in many ways. A Holy Ground is having a peaceful place where you can true to yourself, without pretense. A place where you can call your own. For example my own scared place is my backyard. I have a whole view of woods, it's like nature's at my doorstep. When I'm there I feel like nothing can affect me, all of my tense feelings just drift away.

When I heard this song, I thought of two different things. First I thoght that the singer was talking about how people should be comfortable with them selves. Everyone should think of themselves as holy ground. You shouldn't let anyone put you down and make you feel uncomfortable with yourself. I also thought about places that make you feel comfortable as holy ground. Not everyone feels comfortable in the same place. I'm most comfortable at my house. No one can make me feel uncomfortable when i'm at my house. My home is sacred to me because i'm always with my faily and we are all really close. This is what I thought about when I heard this song.

I think that the song was trying to explain is that what you might think is just a floor or just a room in some building could be someone elses holy place or somewhere they like to be just to get away. A place that is sacred to me would be my dad's backyard, its really big and I can just sit there and be alone to think over things. Another place thats sacred for me is my bed room, I can really go over things that I couldn't if I was in my moms living room or my dads living and family room. There my favorite places to relax and just get away from the world.

This song is very weird and confusing to me but I believe “holy ground” refers to a special or sacred spot. Everyone has time when they are mad, sad, or scared and the spot is a place where the can just get away from everything. This place is different for everyone and may be more than just one spot. For me this ground is at my house in my room where no one bothers me. With all my sports and school I’m very busy and some times I have to chill and relax which is very nice in my room. I feel this way about my room because it’s mine with all my stuff in it. That’s about it the song has many meanings but this is how I fell about it.

I think that what the poem is trying to say is that we should appreciate everything we do. We as Americans take advantage of all that is given to us. You should take every situation your in and try to make it better. Life is fragile and you never know what could happen. The place that I hold sacred is the golf course. It is where I can let my mind roam free. We all leave our own legacy so cherish every moment.

When I listened to the song today I took it to mean that everything is sacred. Many times in the song it said "all of it is holy ground". Everthing is special in its own way and should be respected. People all have their unique spots where they can go to relax. We're all different but we're all the same because we all need to get away sometimes, making everyone's sacred spots holy ground. And there's a whole lot of people with holy ground. My most sacred times are when I am with my friends just hanging out or actually going somewhere because I am at ease and very easy going and happy.

I think the meaning for "Holy ground" is saying that its your own place thats sacred. This can mean any place you feel comfortable in, or go to get away from things is "Holy ground". Holy ground may also be things you like doing like sports, school, outdoors etc...just depends on your interests. The place I consider Holy/Sacred would be my house. When ever I feel like relaxing or getting away in private I can always count on my house because its a comfortable place. Another thing that would be "Holy" to me would be fishing or hunting because its what I like to do and its fun to me.

Everyone has there own sacred place where they feel loved and special. And everyone's sacred place can be different whether it is outside or at your house. A place that is sacred to me is my house. I don't have to deal with drama or things going on out in the world. That is how i interpreted the song "Holy Ground"

I believe the lyrics mean that everyone should take the time to enjoy life. No matter what you do in life, people and family should be sacred. Life is too short, so we
have to appreciate everyday things in our lives. The things that are sacred to me are my home, family and room. I can go to my room to be alone and play my guitar. My family is sacred to me because we support each other.

I think that the song was telling me that our sanctuary, our 'holy ground', is closer to home than the average run-away knows. I feel that even though the song wasn't that great, it reminds me alot of how I feel about what the world USED TO BE.

My sanctuary is in my room, where I can be alone with my thoughts and create my poetry and soulful art.
Outside is just as great as being inside, but the scent, sound, and feel of nature around me soothes me more than a notebook and complete silence.

I beleive the song was saying that everyone in this world is sacred and different. Also that everywhere on earth is made special by the people there and the things that happen there. I would have to say the only sacred place i have would be alpine. It is sacred to me because my best friend tony died right in front of me up there 3 years ago. Ever sence then i go snowboarding everyday all day just to show my buddy how much i care. I also think it is sacred to me because i have the most fun there and i might have a chance in making a living off snowboarding.

I think the lyrics ment that everything is unique and that we need to respect differences which makes them holy. The lyrics that state " take your shoes off, this is holy ground" means leave your differences behind and come together as one. A place that I find holy is the lake. When I just want to be by myself, I can take the boat out and just relax on the boat. Another place I find holy is my church. I have to give respect to gods house, and everyone comes together to rejoice him which makes him holy. I also find my house to be holy, this is where my family comes together after long days and just relaxes together.

I thought this song was saying that your holy ground is a place were you can feel most comfortable. I also thought that because we all have these holy grounds were are all similar. Although most of peoples holy grounds vary. For me my holy ground is my bedroom. I go here when I need peace and quit. Or when I just need a place to relax and calm down. When I am here i can think freely and get away from the stresses of the real world.

I believe the meaning of this song is that anywhere you are in the world has importance. Even if a place does not seem significant to you individually, it is special to some one else. Everyone has different places that are holy and special to us. Although that makes us different, it also brings us together in the sense that we are all human and have a need to feel safe, secure, and relaxed. The place I hold sacred is my house. It's the one place that I can go to and be myself while not having to worry about what others think. I can let my emotions out, relax, and know that I am loved, regardless of all my flaws.

After listening to this song inventively, I believe the author was trying to say that everything around us is sacred. We take everything for granted and we should really appreciate everything we have in everyday life, including material objects, friends, family, etc. It also means that the whole world is one place that belongs to everyone as a group. The lyrics of the song really do a good job of describing these ideas and may open some people’s eyes. There are a couple places that I can comfortably say are sacred to me. My home is one of them. I feel appreciated, safe, and secure there because I have people there who care about me. Another place I think of as holy or sacred is my cottage up north. I can get away from everything, which is a good way to relieve stress. That always feels good.

Also it was saying that everyone can come together in one place and be fine. Plus i think it was saying when in bad times and good you are always on holy ground and be happy for that. Another thing is no matter what look at the good things in life. For example your friends, family, what you have at your house and more. Not matter what you are not alone. I would have to say a sacred place to me would be my home, or anyhting else that would make me feel comfortable. This place would have to be my own house. I would say my house is a sacred place because i feel say there, its my family and i know everyone very well.

"Today, I would like you to respond to the lyrics of the song. What was the author trying to say or how did you interpret this idea of of holy or sacred? Do you have places in your life that are holy and sacred? Where are they and why do they make you feel this way?"

My Interpretation of the song was that this person finds all of their life to be sacred, and they take the time to think about who was here before the, and who made this impression on the world, and he then knows why this object or place is here. Now with that being said, i do not believe enough of us think about this as much as this man who sings this song does, and i think that that is okay, but i think we should once and a while think of why this place is here, and who was here before you, which unfortunately i think nobody does enough of that.

Now as for place that i find sacred in my life, i find there to be a lot now that this has been brought upon me. I find hawaii to be a very sacred place for one, because on the two trips i went there for, i noticed that we had been extremely far away from any landmass, and the first people here must have just stumbled upon this. Now for places that are bit closer, i find that my grandparents burial site is sacred, because i know that they are the closet i will ever be to them ever again, which saddens me a lot every time i think of them. I also find that my house is a very sacred place, because we had livd in a trailer park before we, both me and my sister had join school. I will always thank my parents for getting me out of there, because i believe of them to be a place where bad things happen,. now i didn't mean that last part in a bad way, but its an honest truth you cant hide. These are just a few of the places i know of, and have had the time to think about being sacred for me, but in time, i will accept more things to be more sacred, and i am fine with life being that way.

thank you Mr.Kay, i thought this was a very good question, and it really made me think about my roots, and a lot of what has happened in my life.
