Day 14

I had a really good week and hope you did as well. I enjoyed discussing our ideas of the American Dream and seeing how it has changed over time. Next week, we will begin reading "Into the Wild" and discussing other aspects of short stories. I think you will really enjoy "Into the Wild" but remember they did not do the book justice with the movie so you will not be able to get by with just watching it On Demand.

I want you to read the following quote and then tell me how you think this quote applies to you:

"The question is not whether we will die but how we will live."
Joyce Borysenko

This quote will be even more clear once you begin reading the novel.

This is a hard question. I think that everyone has their time to go to rest. But it is not how you die. But what you do, and what you accomplish while you are alive. Many people get themselves very worried about death. But that is not the point, you should be accepting your time and trying to do your very best at being a good person on earth before that happens. A person is measured by the good thety give to the world, not the way that they are taken out of it.

This qoute applies to me in a couple different ways. One thing is i think it is how we live NOT whether we will die. I say this because you need to know how to live then that will tell you how you will die. Basically both are true but first it should be how to live. Also, if yuo figure out how to live them you won't have to worry about how you will die as much. Last thing is when you are living try your best in everything to stay alive.

How I interputted this is quote, it's not whether we live or die, it's how you live your life. You only get to live your life once, so might as well live it to it's fullest potential. If you make a mistake, do not dwell on it. You always learn from your mistakes. Everyone has good in them, don't be afarid to show it. Life's to short to always look at the glass half empty. Always try and be the best person you can be, and don't be afraid to live your life. Just be happy (:

To me this is really hard question. What i think that quote means is that maybe people will remember what you did during your live reather then how you die. What have you done duing your life what have you accomplish is what people would ask there self. How you lived and what your lived for. Not how you died. I think the quote means if you accompished everything that you said you were going to do.

This is a tough question. But I think that its mostly talking about live every moment as if you were going to die. I think that its stating that dont always be afraid of dying, just live the moment and dont worry whats going to happen. Everyone is afraid off dying or doesnt want to die, but sometimes we just have to forget about that and live life to the fullest. Also that its not how or why you die, its how you lived your life, and how much you put into it. My favorite quote is "You only get to live your life once, so might as well live it to it's fullest potential". I think this quote goes along with this concept.

I think death is a very hard tragedy to deal with. I know that I have a fear of death and it really freaks me out. I think you should life the way it is meant to be lived. I live life everyday to the fullest becasue you just dont know what will happen around the corner or the next day. I am trying to make something out of my life so when I am older, I can look back and have no regrets to how I survived this far.

I think this quote means not to look too far into the future and to live life in the present as best as you can. We're all going to die someday but it doesn't really matter how. We can find that our when the time comes. That is why it is important to live life good right now because that time could come faster than you realize. Everyday I try to live life to the fullest and to become someone that I'm proud of. I also don't hold grudges. Anything can happen to anyone and I don't want to have to remember that the last thing I said to someone was not nice. So live life to the fullest.

This quote applies to myself by living each day as if my last. Its about how I should go about my day with something as simple as a smile on my face. Enjoying life to me is a great way to be happy. As im typing I find this a very difficult question to answer. To be honest, I never really think about death, when it could happen, or where, which why its so hard for me to respond to this quote. Many of us do go through each day, as if we will live forever. My life is sometimes routine, I never really think to try to do something to mix it up, do something new.

This qoute, to me, means that when we die doesn't matter. But how we spend our lives that counts.
There are a quite a few people that fear death. These people will do anything to live. But they don't do anything with their lives. They waste it away when they could have the time of their lives. Thats what i believe this qoute means.

I look at the quote " The question is not wheather we will die but how we live " , as its not that you shouldn't live life thinking one day you will die. Everyday is a new day and you should live your life to the fullest. Everyday I live with no regrets. You never know what the next day will bring so thats why i think you should live your life to the fullest. Some people say there biggest fear is death. I think you should just love the life you have on earth. And thats how i interpret the quote " Its not wheather we will die but how we will live. "

I bleive the quote "The question is not whether we will die but how we will live." by Joyce Borysenko
has serval meanings. The main thing I think it says is that everyone dies the same but not everyone lives the same. We all know we will die at some point so, this is not a question. But how we live is differnt for everyone. Another thing after reading this quote I ask myself is how am i living my life? Am i doing my part in this country as an American? I hope I can asnwer these question with a yes and im doing my part living the world we all live in.

This quote is saying that its not how we die, but how we live our lives. When I wake up everyday, I don't worry about how I will die. This quote is saying that it doesn't matter how long you live, but if you make a difference in your life. People will remember you for what you did on this earth, not how you died. If you were a good person, your death might have a larger impact on people. I know that sometimes I think into the future and ask myself "what if this happens" and I start to get paranoid. You need to live in the moment and not get ahead of yourself. People need to realize that you're going to die eventually, so why not make something of yourself in the time you have on earth.

I believe the quote means to live life to the fullest extent before you die. I believe you need to make many good friends and keep them over time. I believe you should get married and raise a great family. I want to be remembered by the good things that I do. I want people to think about the things that I have accomplished. When I die I want people to think of me with good feelings and memories. That is what I feel the quote means.

My way of looking at this quote is to switch the word "die" and "live". Once toy do that you can see that it is negative. That means the original quote is probably a positive thing. I think this quote means that we really need to "Live" before we can die. We need to make choices that will impact the way we live. The path we chose is totally up to us. Too many people in this day in age are to focused on working, and ourselves to actually Live life. Every once and a while we need to do something spontaneous and make life worth living.

I think that this quote means live your life to its fullest. If you worry about all the little aspects in life, it will only hold you back. You have to take some risks, or why bother living at all? If we just pass up oppertunities, then we cannot gain any knowledge or experience. I believe you can only learn so much from being taught something; you have to go out in the world and try it to really learn fully. Also, if you look in the past, the people who stand out are the ones who are remembered for what they did while they were alive. Knwoing this, when I die, I want to be remembered by others by how I lived, and not how I died.

Mr. Kay,
I think that the saying "The question is not whether we will die but how we will live" is saying that everyone will die but that's not what you should be worried about, you should be focusing on how you are going to live your life. For example, lets say you started doing drugs in highschool, and 3 and a half years latter you die from an overdose. You were 14 when you started drugs, you were in freshmen year. And 3 years latter, you turned 17, you were in your senior year. Ever since you started doing drugs you've been drinking and joy riding while you were drunk, and you even got a couple of tickets. Next thing you know, your in the car and you start having a seizure from all the drugs and drinking you've been doing. Your car swerves out of control, and you end up crashing into on coming traffic. Not only did you die from the car crash but also from an overdose, the driver in the car that you crashed into also died. Your life is over. Even if you got lucky and survived the crash and recovered from the overdose, your life would pretty much be over, you would be sent to jail for murder and drunkdriving. You would be in jail for the rest of your life, lets say you would have died in jail when you were 96, that's 79 years in jail, never seeing sunlight again. I think that the quote means that you should live your life to the fullest. Don't let anything or anyone stand in your way. I know that if I was to die today, I would be glad that I lived my life the way I thought was right, sure I made some mistakes but who doesn't. I would be proud that I made my parents smile, and that they were my insperation. I don't know what I would do without them.

First off death is a very scary thing. I think the quote means to me is how you live your life. The quote applies to me in afew ways like I am a nice , caring person, who trys to make new friends. When I had my very first seizure ever I thought I was going to die. After that scary event it made me realize that anything can happen to you during your life unexpectedly . So I keep doing the things that I like to do like playing hockey, softball, snowboarding, and the guitar. Even though I have seizures I still am living my life the way I want to.

Hm. I guess the quote is kinda vague, since I can't really decipher sayings like this. If i had to guess, it means don't question the future, and focus on the present. On what's going on right before your eyes, not what will happen down the road, whatsay twenty years from now.
Then again, that's just MY rough interpretation of the quote.

It is not a question whether you will die or not. This fact is set in stone from the minute you were born. To be alive you must be able to die. To have life, life must be able to be taken from you. It is not whether or when you will die, but it is how you live that defines you as a person. It is the things that you do that defines you and makes you unique from other beings.
I helped my cousin clean out a room so that he can stay with us today. I am a helpful person and its things like this that define me as helpful and sets how I live.

This quote made a lot of sense to me. We all know that we are going to die. It's a sure fact. It applies to everyone and no one can escape it. So it's not a question whether we will die but the real question is how are we going to live our life. You have no choice but to die but you can choose how to live your life. Wether to live it well or waste it is a person's choice. I think that the reason he wrote the quote was to make a person relize they need to make the best of life.

I think that this quote mens that we are consantly thinking about death and are always thiking of the will to survive. Death is a scary thing. It is progamed in our minds to consantly think about death. Nobody likes to thinking about dieing. That is why we are always thinking of survival, because we don't want to die. So when that day comes when you die you would have wanted to have a good life. And you don't know when you are going to die so you want to live a good life whenever you can. And this is wht it is not whether we die but how we live.

I think it means to not mope around because life sucks but to look for ways to make things better. Don't worry all the time, it wont help your problems. Learn how to live before you die worrying about death. It's true you should look forward to anything even if it's not that great. If you're really depressed or angry and you know something good is coming up then you it makes things so much sweeter. So you should know what makes you happy in life and how to make those things occur more often. Looking out for death is just going to make come faster.

Saying its not weather you die pretty much means you will so who cares. This quote phases on how you live your life. If you feel like giving it all you got and being succesfull do it. But it also means you can live like a bum and not give a crap. Its your life, live it like you want, face death just like every other living thing on earth does. This is my thought of the quote.

I think that this is a great quote. I think this because everyone is afraid of death, that they forget to live life to its fullest. You should never hold anything back, you should always take chances. The worst thing you can do is grow old and have regrets. You don't need to worry about making mistakes. If you're always worrying about messing up then your life sucks, ad it will be really limited. Another thing is never worry about what people think of you, if you're worrying about that then you're living someone elses life not yours.
The main point of this quote is don't hold anything back, and live life your way.

I think this aplies to me in a few ways. For example, if i go through my whole life and i don't contribute anything to the world my life would be pretty boring. Or like doing all these crazy things in my life and when i die i can say my life was great. I think this quote mean that they way you die doesn't describe the way you live. It is how you live your life to the fullest. Having no regrets on your decisions in life. Some people choose to go with the flow in life. they try to just get by. But this quote means like make your life the best it can be before its your time to go.

If you live life to the fullest, you can't look back and say "Oh, I wish I would have done that." The right way to live is not to think about it that much and just lve to have fun. You can make your life whatever you want. All that you have to do is put your mind to it. You shouldn't be asking when you're going to die, but how you're going to live.

I think the person who said this is confident that they will live if they are willing to do whatever they can. They are certain they will live and they are saying they need to decide what they are going to do to survive. They are saying they will do whatever it takes to make the best out of the situation. I personally try to live my life to be the best that I can. I try to make the best out of every situation I encounter. Another meaning to the quote could be that everyone will die eventually, but while you are living you need to make it the best you can. It could either refer to a survival situation or a perseverance situation, in my opinion.

To me this quote means that we all die some time and because we all die, it doesn't matter. We should always look at what we do instead of how we will die. People get hung up on death but it shouldn't matter. What we should care about is who we live. We can live however we want but we cant really control how we die. It applies to me because I hate thinking of death and I like to think about what life is like. The point of life is to live, not die. I like this quote because people get hung up on such but I really like the point that Life is Funner then death. Simple as that.

I like this qoute I think it means that everyone is going to die at somepoint in their life. It's something you could say we all have in common. But we do not always choose to live the same way as other people. So I think what this quote is trying to say is you cannot change how your going to die or when. But you can change your life. You can pick you decisions and your own life. This quote is a kind of paraphrased way of saying "hey you can live your life how ever you want, cuz in the end were all gonna die" It truly grasp the quote of life and I like it.
