Day 12
Today we discussed the readings about What is an American? and then the Ben Franklin piece. What I find interesting is this idea of what types of life our ancestors led to get the country to the place it is today. Yet, it makes me think about what we have to dream about as Americans. Therefore, my question to you is what do you think the American Dream of your generation is going to be? How will your generation move our country forward like the generations before you? Do not just re-tell yesterdays dream because we have the cars, the homes, the technological advances that our grandparents worked to give us. Think long and hard about your response.

i think the american dream today is to go very far in life. To be very successful. This generation i think will be very important i think we will work hard and get a good eduaction. We will go far because i think we have to. To get a good job and be stable in life we need good eduation. The american dream today is to become all you can be. Success i think is the american dream.

I think the American Dream for our generation will be to stop global warming and find alternative fuels. We need to end dependency on foreign oil and fossil fuels. I think our generation will have to clean up the mess the previous one left. I'm not saying everyone from the previous generation made our country in the bad shape it is in now but it is pretty bad. We need to keep pushing for something better than what we have. I think our generation will be the last hope for our country. We need to make change and fast if we want to make a difference.

I think the American Dream is going to shift in a negative way for our generation. I think things like family values are going to become less important. I think the American dream will focus more on the amount of money that you earn. To be honest I'm not sure our generation is going to be that successful. I think our generation is spoiled and that we practically have everything that we need. Hopefully our generation will invent cures for diseases or flying cars. I hope our generation can be successful in moving the country forward.

I think that the American Dream for our country is going to be is creating more jobs. To make sure everyone has the chance at a job. Also to bring a lot of the jobs back to America. This will mean that we don't have to be as dependent on countries such as China. By doing this it will help America's economy. Also makeing the gap between lower class even shorter (lower class making more money). Basically I think the American Dream is being able to take care of every single American citizen.

I belive that the American Dream of my greneration will be all about wealth and being happy. Also the dream of my generation will be about improving our current ecomical status. To tell you the truth i belive that my generation will not move our county very far. I say this beacause look how lazy we are and how we always take the easy way. We need to become even more advance to better our enviroment and state of living. I also belive that we need to become more hard working like our previous generation and like at our values more. My generation is going to have a hard time if we don't change now or soon.

To be honest all I hear about is how bad our generation is. You hear adults talk about how we are going to be in trouble when we get older. I hope none of it is true but sometimes I agree. We are lazy and in no way motivated. I think our american dream will be living free, and doing things that require little effort. Our economy is struggling, and is no doubt going global. This limits some of our generations so called dream job or their dream life. As the Y generation, we are going to have to create new ideas on how to live.

i think the american goal is to try to find the best job possible and to make the most mone possible.
this generation of people i think will not do as well because alot of people are droping out and the people who will graduate will ahve a hard time finding a job because the economy inthis state realy sucks. some people who go to collage are the ones that will end up with the good job the rest will end up working at a fast food joint. i think that the drop out are going to bring this country in to a riont in the near future. and thats what i think that the american dream is going to be.
What i think our generations american dream will be to get somewhere in life and be scessful, and have cheep gas. Also for everyone to have a job and the one they want. I think everyone will have to work at everything we want for our generations american dreams to come true. Everyone should be equal at everything they do. So think that we need to make every citizen of the United states of America become successful in life.

I think that the American dream of our generation will be to help find alternative energy sources and advance in the medical field. There are so many diseases and disorders that I believe we will try to find cures and ways to fix these problems. Also, I believe that we will be searching to understand more about the universe beyond Earth. Americans already have so much, but we need to choose to use the knowledge and technology we have and try to make it even better. There are still many possibilities that have not been discovered yet. If we take for granted what we have been given, then we will just be a spoiled generation that does not contribute to the progress of America. I believe we will do many great things though, as long as we choose to do so.
I think that there not an American Dream for my generation. We have cars and planes and houses. Maybe my generation will make somthing that we don't need. I don't think that there is any thing left to make. My generation sucks. Everybody in the past made what we need for today. I don't know. Maybe we will be the ones who makes the flying cars.

I think the american dream of our generation is to not go any more down than we currently are. In my opinion we are going in a slunp sought of speak and so i think we just should try and stay here and let other generations rebuild. I think our generation will move us forward by setting the next generation up. Also, i think our generation needs to invent more things, like better cars that hold more gas so we don't run out. PLus, we need to try and think or make more medicines to cure more diseases. Last, i think we need to make sure we don't get into a huge war or do something that will really screw up our nation.

The American dream for this generation is going to be ALOT different than the generations before. I think the American dream for this generation is going to be making things better and faster and making more money. This is mainly because the competition for jobs is alot greater than before. 50 years ago you didnt have to go to college to get a descent job. If you don't go to college now, you'll be lucky to get a job making minimum wage. I think that that our generation is going to need to work harder and harder because things aren't going to get any easier. My parents have always been telling me that our generation is going to be in trouble, and now I'm starting to believe it. The automotive industry is nothing like it was before. 50 years ago you could work in one of the "Big 3" and get as much overtime as you wanted. Now people are lucky to get 40 hours a week. So i think that our generation is going to have to work ALOT harder to make descent money.

i think the american dream today is to be all you can be, try really hard at what you want. The american dream is to be successful in anything you do. Not to be a downer, many people in this generation though, think they have it made, but they really don't. Everyone needs to be a leader. I think everyone needs to stand up, and suggest new things, that will get everyone somewhere in life. No one wants a spoiled generation, and thats what we're going to become if we don't change our bad habits. If we keep taking our generation before us for granted, this will lead to bad stuff. All in all, we will do great (hopefully) if everyone does their share in this generation, we can make a change.

I think that when I am older our American dream will be to work hard to make the economy better. Right now we are struggling as Americans, i'm really not sure why though. Our generation is going to have a very hard time accomplishing this dream though. Everyone is always getting into trouble, and it doesn't seem that anyone works hard. Their are very few people that care about grades or school in our generation. The only way our generation will move this country forward is if we start to work harder. I hope that the economy gets better when i'm older so that things become more affordable, and people aren't so poor. This is what I think the dream needs to become.
What american dream means to me is go far in life. Never look back. This generation will move foward like they did before if everyone puts forth an effort to move on. To Make it better than it ever was before. Everyone always takes the easy way, instead of the safe way. People take granted for what they have and dont realize how much they have to offer, when back then there wasnt much. I think that if everyone puts forth the effort we can move on.

I think that our generation now is all about being the best perosn you can be, and having a good education. But our next generation will be trying to cure diseases like cancer and other harmful diseases. Another thing that our generation will do is stop global warming. Also to think of other fuels for cars, instead of fossil fuels, because of the effects it has on the earth, and because it will eventually be gone. This generation has had a lot of problems like the whole economy problem, and global warming. The next generation will try to fix the last generation, to make it better. With all the new technologies that will be invented in the future, will help the country a lot more.
Right now the economy really sucks. What I hope my generation and the future generations will fing a way to stabalize the economy for good. I think part of the american dream is to be able to have health care when you get older. Right now there is no plan for my generation, we are really screwed. So my american dream is to help every other american. Yes, some people have the same wants and needs as the past generation. For the most part, I think we have all changed our dreams in some way.

i think our generations american dream is much different from our parents and grangparents. when recalling all the things that have been invened in the past i think what else is there to invent? it seems like everything else has already been taken. but i think the american dream of our generation is the celebrity kind of life. insted of just raising a family and getting a solid job. to move our counrty along our generation will probably contribute some new technology. were even better at technology then our parents. but overall i think we'll just improve on what our parents have done.

I think the American dream of our generation will be about the environment and resources. Such as gas, and global warming. I think our generation will either come up with a solution to these problems. Or at least set a base for future researchers and scientists. Such as a new fuels to use for cars and machines. Or even getting people to stop using their vehicles as much. We can only hope that we can fix these problems before it's too late.

I believe that the American Dream of today is to help stabilize America's economy and to help the environment. Today there are many studies being conducted on alternative fuels which I believe is a huge part of America's future. In today's generation everyone has to go to college to get a good job to earn enough money to live. Now you need to exceed past the top level to get enough money to be living constantly. Our generation will have a tough time living due to all of the different crisis we have today; global warming, diseases, fuel sources and many other things. The environment is suffering from wehat we have been doing for many years in the past. It's time for us to stop the bleeding. I believe that the American Dream is to stabilize the economy and keep it that way.

I think our American goal is to stop global warming and reboost are economy.We will hopefully some type of law where if your an American company your factory must be in America.The thought of China taking over gets me fired up.Also if we dont global warming it could mess up the next generation.If we somehow find a way to prove this can happen and stop it from ruining the next generation.So now that we have America its our goal to keep it clean,prosperous,and wealthy.So all I am thinking is maybe if we do make technological adavances to keep it clean and make some right calls America might stay the great country it was and still is.
the american dream of our generation is going to depend on us. i think it will have the same basic goals and ideas. of course ours will be up to date with our technology and other advances. we will probably have the same moral values. but ideas about wealth, power, and material iteams i think will start to take over. the Ben Franklin piece had a lot of true and good advice in it. most of those he wrote will always be true. just like many other passages, " early to bed...." will never change because that is what is true and it has been that way forever. you can't ignore the facts.

I believe that the American Dream today is to have a great education and to go very far in life. But I also believe that the American dream is to be recognized by people, in other words to be famous, or to be known by the people around you. I think that soon our society's American Dream will be just another bunch of words at the end of an American History Book, I believe that the American Dream will be a part of the past that someday will be on a 10th grade History test. I'm not trying to say that our Society's American Dream is not important, because it is important. The bottom line I'm trying to say is that our Society's American Dream is all added up to vision, in other words its all about what every one else see's.

I think that our values will change quite a bit. I think that a lot of the peices that Franklin talked about will not apply as much in our generation as they do in this one now because I think that our generation depends on electronic and other items to do work for us instead of working. The importance of education will also be part of our dream. the only peice that i think will still apply in our generation is the fact of " early to bed...." I think that that will always apply in the American Dream.

I think that the American dream for our generation is to stop global warming and locate Bigfoot. The reason I think we need to stop global warming is because if we don’t we will all die. I think we need to locate Bigfoot so we can see if he can talk. I do not think that our generation is going to make that big of an impact on life as we know it today. The reason I think that is because our generation doesn’t have to work for anything it’s just given to us. I mean look at all the lazy obese people in America. But that’s just my opinion.

I believe that the American Dream for our generation will be that more jobs will be available. So that everyone has an option to become successful, if they chose so. A possibility that might happen is everything will be all computerized, which will not be good for us. Also I would hope that our medical field will advance. There's a lot of illnesses and diseases out there that are hurting so many people. It would be nice to find a cure for that. Our grandparents generation has worked so hard for us to have great opportunities in life, we should return the favor and do the same for the future Americans.

As I said yesterday the american dream for are generation is going to be much different then it what it is know. With the struggling economy it will be much harder to get a job with average schooling. Now a days a high school degree doesn't get you as far as it used to. Another american dream would be to find and reproduce an alternative fuel source. We have to stop relying on other countries for fuel. They have us by the strings and were the puppet. What I mean is they decide the price and we have to pay it or prices at the pump become astronomically high for the citizens to pay.

I think the American Dream for our generation is to become wealthy. To tell you the truth, I think most people just look after themselves at this point and don't really care about the common good of the country. However, some people do look out for our country. The most controversial dilemma in my opinion is the economy we have right now. People have different views about the way to handle it. I think eventually we will reach an agreement on how to do it, with the biggest influence coming from the new President. With that being said, it is still our job to do what we can to turn the economy around, which is what I think our generation will do to move our country forward.

I think that the generation we live in will have more hardships than the previous. I think that many things that have developed that may not help us fulfill our full potential as americans. However, some advances may also help us along the way. I think that the new american dream is to have lots of money. Through this new way to live life, i think many families will lose their values at all expense to get money. I think that our generation will be one to struggle. I think that history repeats itself, and that if we take on our lows, we will find a way to get our highs. In comparison to many political beliefs that are being said in the 2008 election, for our generation to be sucessful, we need to bring more jobs back to th United States to open up areas for many of us to get jobs and help the economy prosper.
I think the american dream for this generation is to stop global warming, fix the economy and stay out of wars. And being succesfull at doing this. First we need to stop global warming because its just bad for earth. If we have no healthy planet to live on we will die off. Second, the economy is down the toilet and with growing gas prices and an increase in natural disasters people are realizing they cant afford all of what they used to. Fixing the economy is very important or we may all be in a fight for a decent job that can pay to these expenses. Third, War has got to stop. We spend nearly 19 billion dollars a week in Iraq. This is one of or major economy problems. When we are done with war our economy just might turn around.
This is my 2 cents about this generations american dream and how we need to act.
The american dream of our generation would be getting far in life and doing what you love doing. Being free and living free would be another american dream because there is more and more limitations on things these days. Our generation will be very important because if we screw up (such as global warming) the next generations will be completly ruined. Also i think we need to change our ways and help say the worl because it might be the end sooner then we think.

The American Dream for my generation is going to be all about money. Its all about how much stuff you have and who has the latest ipod or cellphone. Family values are kind of dissappearing. In the old days, everyone had a family dinner and now, that is not always the case. I think our technology will really be moving forward though. There will probably be a lot of robots doing stuff and many medical discoveries to cure diseases. The American Dream will be changing for the positive and negative.

I think that the American dream is to keep moving forward and to keep making progress. This includes a variety of things, including technology. For our generation, finding ways to prevent global warming is a big topic. Alternative fuels, solar panels, I think it is our generation's goal to make these things happen. Another thing our generation should work on is finding cures for diseases like cancer, and AIDS. What our generation needs to accomplish will take a lot of effort, which we have to be willing to give. Our country needs to keep moving forward, and do not want to be the generation to stop that. I hope this generation can create new possibilities for the next generations to come, and to make our country more advanced and successful.

The American Dream itself is as varied as the human being itself, so it is ever changing, as the generations go by hardships such as oil, alternative fuels, global warming continue to wear us down and take us apart. the most common form of the American dream is to be the best possible, and that itself is varied too, as one would think it would become underestimating or overestimating. So the American dream is just individuals dreams put together for a vague understanding. such as this we need to improve.

The American dream is to stay in the U.S. We don't want our job out sourced to another country. We will vote for politicians that will fight for American jobs. we will look into the market and find a job that stays here. this means we have to study hard to get that degree for that job. I think that everyone will be environmentally conscience. It will become 2nd nature to recycle and use products that help the earth. It is going to change our habits.
The American Dream for my generation could be many things. But the one that would problly fit us would be really simple. Like Getting a job that gets you by and raising a family and ownning a deasent house. I think my generation will move the world forward in sports mostly. We have some great athelites in our generation. I don't think we will contribute to the worl in a scienific way. There maybe a couple people who contirbute to the world.But not nearly as many as our grandparents generation had. They had more opertunity than us but that shouldn't stop us from contributing to the world.

In all the honesty i can conjure up, i can not see any true way to describe our generations american dream, thats because I do not see anything significantly good in our generation that makes me want to really think about them. I, on the other hand, when forced to try to comprehend what some of are dreams could be, i think of some that are not what the public really would want to hear.
I think we have the dream to defy older people. I think we have the dream to openly express our feelings towards others. I think we will go against the grain to get things done. i believe that when the generation shift happens, people who are willing to stand up, to lead, and to be well liked by al, will stand up, and will do the jobs that need to get done. I will be one of those people.
this is out of the context of the question, but i remember that you mentioned today, that our generation should have a ben franklin; and wether it matters to you or anyone who reads this, i truthfully think i could be the ben of this generation.

I think that out american dream will be a big boom for our century and later on in life. I deas such as alternative fuel. Alternative fuel will help out the whole enter universe and stop the break down of the o zone. Another thing it will do is be alot cheaper fuel source. This alternative gas will also be a big help torwards boy cotting gas prices. All prices will drop of gas if there is less use by the customers.
I think the american dream is to be as most sucessful as possible. I believe our generation will work very hard to change the way we live today. Our generation will work on creating bio fuels for cars so the make less emmissions and to protect the o-zone layer. I believe our generation will find different ways to support us as we retire. This includes medicine, healthcare and medical care. I believe our generation should do its best to make the world a better place to live and make the world last longer. I beleive our generation should also work toward world peace. That is what I believe our generation could do.

I think my generations american dream is going to be involved with space. We have the technology and we have the people trained for it. So maybe in the next 10 or 20 years we would see homes on the moon maybe. We could also be a generation thats pro green for the enviroment so we can clean up around us. Also hopefuly not be predjudice against people. For any reason eather it be race, religion, clothing, or wealth. And not pick at peoples faults but help them out instead.

I think that the american dream for our generation will be something along the lines of improving the technology we already have. Also I think that It will be about living longer, cureing diesaes, and world peace. I think that our dream is essentially based around progression. I know that is very broad but that's just it. To be completely honest, it is sort of little. I think it is just to promote new things and well make things bigger and easier like that. Maybe well make a giant TV the size of the biggest wall in your house, maybe get a computer which can operate off of motion capture. I don't know, maybe this is all based around technological advances. But also, there can be community advances. Maybe there will be much more jobs, or there becomes a way to turn water into fuel. Anything is possible for my generation.

I think that in generations to come we will accomplish a lot. With all the resources we have there are lots of possibilities. I think we could have flying cars, more fuel effcient ways of doing things, And many different energy sources to rely on. With college being a must know and education being a key componet in life I know we can go very far. I know with time this coutry and generations to come could make the most of this world. But only know if they stop and change the way things are heading now. Generations could bring the newest technology and absurd computer programs. Who knows what tomorrow will bring.
I believe the american dream in my generation will remain the same. It has since being founded, hasnt it? So why change it now?
