Day 13

George is put on trial for the murder of Lennie. You are George's attorney and have to give the jury your final argument as to why he should not go to jail. What do you say? Make sure that you make references to the story and to the life they led together and what brought them to this point of having to make the decision to kill Lennie. You may need to do more than 7 sentences. hint, hint :)

I believe George Milton should not be put in jail for the murder of Lennie smalls. Lennie and George were very, very close and George has looked after Lennie most of his life and cared for him as if he were a small child. Lennie had mental conditions and was not mentally stable. He needed to be looked after and cared for and George did just that for Lennie. George was one of the only people who could understand and fully get along with Lennie. He knew a lot of about Lennie and his condition and was able to understand it. I truly believe that want George did was considered a favor for Lennie and was in his best interest. After everything George had done for Lennie throughout his life, I believe he felt it was his duty as Lennie's best friend, mentor, and role model to take his life instead of being hanged and embarrassed in a crowd of people. i see this as a personal favor to Lennie from him best friend.

I do believe that George should go to jail for killing Lennie. Even though George thought that it would be better for Lennie to die that way, It did not give George the right to take matters in his own hands. Who is to say who lives and dies? No human should ever make that choice, It's not theirs to make. In this scenario Lennie is the "bad guy" and George is the vigilante. If humans were able to choose who should live and who should die no one would be here. We would all end up killing each other, people that we don't like and people that we feel are threatening to us and our success. Now I'm not saying that we shouldn't have the death penalty for those who have committed crimes that are unforgivable, But stop and think. Would you like their blood on your hands? Now I'm speaking metaphorically, I don't intend to mean literal blood. If George was given the power to kill Lennie he should have. Rights and power like that aren't just freely given.

I think that George Miltion should go to jail. You should never kill someone just because you think they should die. Just because someone did something wrong doesn't mean they need to be dead. Lennie has a special condition where he doesn't understand what he's doing is wrong. Yeah he shouldn't get away with it, but Lennie could be put somewhere else. George didn't even want to kill Lennie but he felt it was the right thing to do. If he had no other choice, someone else could have done it instead of him. If people could kill anyone they wanted and get away with it, so many people would be dead. Theres no right to just kill someone just because you wanted too or feel the need. Everyone has different opinions and they all should be heard.

I think that George should be thrown into jail because he committed murder. Nobody should get anything short of life in prison for murder and I don't think George is any special cicumstance. Who has the right to decide whether or not somebody should be killed? George should deffinately have to pay for his actions. Lennie could have been placed into a mental instution where he would have been better off than dead. If george would have just let Lennie be he wouldn't be in a situation like this one. George needs to be punished for his actions.

George Milton should not be put in jail for the murder of Lennie Small. George and Lennie grew up together and they would never do anything to hurt each other. Ever since they were little George had been taking care of Lennie; they have always traveled and worked together. This shows that he would never do anything to harm him. The reason George had for killing Lennie was because he wanted to protect him. Lennie had just killed a girl. Also George knew that he was mentally challenged. If George wouldn't have shot Lennie then something worse would have happened to him. Either Curley or someone else would have shot him, or Lennie could have been locked up. Lennie could have went to jail or the crazy house. Either one would have been horrible for Lennie because the people would treat him differently. George Milton did the right thing and made the right choice for himself and Lennie; therefore he should not go to jail.

I do not believe that George Milton be put in jail for the murder of Lennie Smalls. George was Lennie's companion. He stuck with him through all the hard times, even their encounter with the girls skirt in Weed. Lennie had killed a human and an animal. George had felt that it didnt matter what they did, Lennie was going to get caught. If Lennie did get caught, he would have been sent to a mental asylum. George did the right thing in ending Lennies life in peace and not in torture. I think this is the final favor that George had to pay to him long-time friend.

I feel that George Milton should not go to jail. I feel this way because as seen through their travels together, Lennie Small had been killing things all his life. First mice, then a puppy, and last Curly's wife. As seen from this time line, his killing kept growing to bigger sizes. Although he didn't know what he was doing due to his mental codition, he is a strong man and may not know his own strength. This is also gown through the incident of Curly's hand. It had been crushed but Lennie didn't know what he was doing. I feel that if Lennie was alive currently, it be soon that he will kill another animal, or person. Lennie is too much of a danger to the people and animals around him. He may have eventually hurt my cliant George in some way. If Lennie had continued living it would have been a big mistake a d this was the only way to protect the people. They have a right to know they are safe, and there are many dangers our there, but one had been eliminated. This I my statment for why George Milton should not be charged harshly for the killing of Lennie Small.

Judge Judy I do not believe George Milton should not be convicted of the murder of Lennie Smalls. Lennie was a troubled individual. George did what he had to do, Lennie would have probibly ended up killing another living person or thing eventually. He had this thing for soft items and had alot of issues controlling his strength. George put his friend Lennie into a happier place where he can tend and pet all the soft rabbits he wants now. If George didn't kill Lennie someone else would have and not in the nice way George did. The individual would probibly tourcher him and put him through hell and not let him go happily. Eventually they will be together again happily on that dream ranch of there up in the sky.

George Milton should not be sentensed to jail for killing Lennie Smalls. George knew that would have been what was best for Lennie, all George has done is look out for Lennie and do what is best for him, and in this case taking Lennie's life is what was best. Lennie would have died either way the men would have hanged him and George was putting LEnnie out of his missoury. Lennie's life would be just running away from town to town and George knew that was not good for Lennie and that taking his life was the only option. He should not just get away with murder but i believe he shoud not go to jail. It's not like he is a killer and wanted, he did it in the best intrest of LEnnie. IT was hard for him to knew but he knew it had to be done and it was what was best for Lennie.

I argue that George Milton should not be put in jail for the murder of Lennie Smalls. For George and Lennie were so close they were much more than cousins they were like brothers. After Lennies aunt passed away George with open arms took Lennie in and gave him his full attention. He has been through good and bad with Lennie. George being so understanding was patient with Lennie and was probably one of the only people that could get through to Lennie and understand him.For most people did not understand Lennies different ways and therefore thought he was causing plenty trouble. George simply did a generous favor to Lennie so he did not end up else where. If he didnt shoot Lennie then Lennie would probably not be very happy at the moment. After everything George has done for Lennie it was simply a favor and what was best for him. I think he should not go to jail because he was only thinking of his friends best interest.

*AS LAWYER

Do you believe that my client did this out of anger or aggression? and do you doubt that he loved, and still loves his beloved friend and practically child Lennie. We all know in the past that Lennie's aunt died and left the confused child alone. Who was the to comfort him? not his parents or other family member, but George did because he needed Lennie to teach him what life is all about. once George saw how life is suppose to be lived he felt a family attachment to him and would go as far as loved Lennie Small. Now as most of you also know is that Lennie wasn't all there so he had a tendency to pet soft items, so since George cared so much about keeping him stable then gave him a puppy. Have any of you had a Dog? well Lennie in a certain way was like a dog, George loved him and cared for him and did everything for him. If anybody in this jury knows Candy, then you should know that he had his dog put down so he wouldn't have to suffer anymore. well same kind of Position George was in Lennie would have suffered and felt more pain then anyone could have imagined then die not knowing if anyone cared about him. But George guaranteed a non-painless, swift death leaving Lennie day dreaming about their dream farm and all the bunny's he could pet. this is a true showing of courage and love which no-one can imitate.

I believe that George Milton should not go to jail for the murder of Lennie Small. Put yourself in George's shoes, if you will. You have a best friend, someone who always gives you a hassel and he is holding back from your dream. You are in charge of taking care of this man not only because you have to, it's because you want to. You see the good in his heart and you guys have been through so much trouble together that he's basically your side-kick. Now what if you knew that there was something wrong with your best friend, such as a mental disability? You have to keep him quiet around people because if he even says three words, he could get you both fired. This man has to put up a barrier around people and can't even be his normal self. Would you like to be in that person's place? Alone and you have no one that can truly connect on your level? This is what Lennie had to go through every single day of his life. By George killing him, it was for Lennie's own good. He didn't belong out in society because no one can accept him for who he is. Nobody sees past this big man that doesn't barely speak but George. George put Lennie out of his misery because now Lennie can truly be where he belongs and can be accepted for who he is. Please consider the release of George Milton.

i believe George should not go to jail for the murder of Lennie. he never would have shot Lennie if he didnt have to. he always defended and protected him. but when he realized that the other fokes on the farm were going to shoot him he did what he had to do. he did it to defend Lennie and so he would die right. it couldn't be helped that Lennie was going to be murdered that night so Goerge did it himself so Lennie could die happy and understanding. George never ment any harm only friendliness even when killing him.

George Milton may have at fault for the murder of Lennie Smalls, but only ironically enough, out of the goodness of his heart. You may ask yourself, "How could someone so loving and responsible of this slow young man put him to death?". However, let us concure that if he had left his friend for the other ranch hands, this would have been a sloppy situation. George did not want Lennie to die! But he'd rather him die then painfully suffer. Not to mention that George was the only one that authentically knew Lennie had a mental condition whereas the other ranch hands thaought he was only quiet. Lennie did not know his own physialc strangth, the ranch hands did not know of Lennie's problem. Let us agree that someone who knows lennie best, George in this case, knows what he wants best. So let us close on the fact that George may have held the gun that killed Lennie Smalls, but at the same time, was holding his hand to comfort him.

George should not have to go to jail for the death of Lennie for many reasons. One reason is that Lennie had just killed Curley's Wife. Another reason is that Curley was going to kill Lennie if George didn't. It is good that George killed him because George has lived with Lennie a long time. George knows how to calm Lennie down and how to get him happy. George and Lennie have lived together since they were young so he should be the one to kill Lennie. Lennie would have killed others in the future if he wasn't killed. He was a very innocent person who could not control his strenght. Lennie had to be killed at that time because he was calm and if he it was someone else he would have gotten scared and gone on a rampage.

I feel that George Milton should not go to jail for the murder of Lennie Smalls. Lennie and George were friends. They did everything together, weather is was working together or just hanging out. George was the responsible person who looked afer Lennie when his Aunt Clara died. George knew alot of things about Lennie that people did not know. George was the only person alive that knew how to connect with Lennie personally. George did what was best for Lennie. There was alot of things in Lennies life that were going amiss. George just made it easier for Lennie and the world. George was a role model for Lennie and when Lennie did what he did what was George going to do? Was he going to let Lennie get tortured alot by the other guys? Was he going to let Lennie get thrown in jail at watch his life waste away? George did Lennie a favor! He helped out his friend until the very end. George Milton should not go to jail for the murder of Lennie Small.

I will tell you that George Milton is an innocent man. He has done nothing but support his good friend Lennie throughout his whole life. Even when no one else could bare to get close to him, George beat the odds. George has kept Lennie out of trouble for many years, and they have traveled together for awhile. The two of them have bonded on their journeys and deeply care about each other. Lennie would cause chaos, and George would try to cover it up and explain to others why Lennie does what he does. George only has wanted the best for his friend Lennie. When Lennie got completely uncontrollable, George just wasn't going to let others take his friend down and cause him to suffer. George decided that it was only best for Lennie if he ended his life on a happy note, rather then putting him through the trouble of someone else killing him for his actions. All in all, George should not go to prison.

Well, I don’t really see how I would ever have to be an attorney for him. First of all I’m not an attorney. And If that’s not good enough then I don’t see why the people that were guna kill him would rat out George for doing it first. Assuming the only way that he can go to trial for this crime is if one of the other people tell the cops and act as a witness. So other then basically denying the claim that George killed lennie, George is going to jail. Knowing that the only thing you could possibly do is try to get a lessened sentience. Because even if you say it was because lennie killed someone, then your still a vigilante and therefor still going to jail. In the end you could always pleaded something like George wasn’t in the right state of mind at the time if the murder because he was racked with greef at finding out his friend was a killer.

I believe that George shouldn't be sentenced to jail because it was for the good of society. This is because Lennie had a disability and this disability could not be controlled by Lennie and this is what led to him killing Curley's wife. Lennie not only has a disability but he also doesn't know his own strength and could easily hurt and even kill others. George didn't want Lennie to end up in an insane asylum because he wanted better for Lennie. This is because they were so close. George wanted Lennie to be happy and the only way to make that happen was to kill Lennie on the spot because the other Ranchers were coming to bring Lennie in for what he did. This would lead to suffering on Lennie's part and George's because in the back of George's mind he will feel that it would be somewhat his fault for Lennie's sufferings and that he should have killed him. This is why George made the decision to kill Lennie and should not be sentenced to Jail because he tried to help an innocent being from a life of Misery being locked up for something he did that he doesn't even understand the full extent of.

George Milton should not go to jail for the murder of Lennie Smalls. Although he did commit a serious crime, Lennie would have ended up being shot any way. Lennie was killed for the best, and George had no personal reason to shoot him for his own pleasure. It was on behalf of Lennie that George shot him. Lennie and George traveled around together and George took care of Lennie as if they were related. Why should he be put in jail for looking out for Lennies best intrests? If Lennie was not shot by George by distracting him with the story, he would have been most likely beaten and than shot because of the death of Curleys wife.
