Day 9

Sorry so late! I almost forgot about you guys! I'm sure you all would have been so disappointed :)
Hope everything went well today, and you had a chance to get your chapter 4 reading done!

Wednesday we were talking about different themes from "Of Mice and Men" within our groups, and discussing the instances that they have presented themselves thus far. I want you to tell me which theme you feel is most predominant so far, and why? Give me specific examples that support your claim that this theme is stronger and more obvious than the others. Why do you think the author chose this theme or message? Do you think this theme is easy for readers to relate to? Explain.

Don't forget about your quizzes tomorrow!

The theme I understand the most that really sticks out is friendship! Lennie and George share an extremely strong friendship and no matter what troubles they run into, they stick to it. George had really shown that he'll do anything for George and is an incredible friend to him. For example, George had stuck by Lennie and given up a lot just to keep his great friendship with Lennie. I think this theme is very easy for the readers to relate to because everyone has that one person who they're really close too and we would never risk their friendship. We can all relate to that with the author and have a relationship that is similar to George and Lennie's situation.

I believe the more perdominant theme would have to be friendship. I say this because its so far has come up in every chapter. Some reasons i believe this is because everyone knows about friendship and all can relate to it better then other themes. I think the aunthor chose this theme because its easier to understand then most. And everyone can relat easier to friendship then maybe lonliness or power. I do think this is a very easy theme to understand and relate to because everyone has friends. Other are hard because maybe some might not have expirianced those yet but everyone at some point has to have friends.

I think a main theme that is shown throughout the novella would be loneliness or dreams. I feel loneliness occurs more in the story. Curly's wife, for instance, is never with curly and always going after guys. Also, Crook the stable buck is alone all the time because he is black and has to spend all his time by himself in his room. He wants company pretty bad. Also, even though George and Lennie have each other, they seem sort of lonely. When they are apart, there is no one else there for them. Loneliness occurs a lot throughout this novella. I think the author is just trying to show the life of migrant workers. I think this message is easily shown though most of the book. It is directly said sometimes that people are lonely.

I think that friendship is the over whelming theme of the story. It is a very important part because Lennie and George are friends. If they didn't have each other then they wouldn't have their dream. Another example is when George stuck up for Lennie when they met the boss. The author chose this theme because everyone needs friends in their life. Also everyone has some, some better than others but overall someone that cares about them. Since everyone has friends it is an easy theme to relate to. Friendship is a key theme for everything and it helps everyone.

I think the most predominant theme in the book is friendship. So far it has occured the most and it really shows through the reading in the book. It is the most predominant theme so far because it creates a connection between all the characters. One of the most obvious examples is between George and Lennie. George sticks with Lennie throughout everything even though he is a little slow. I think the author chose this message to show that we always need friendship in our lives and what it creates in our life for us. This theme is easy for readers to pick up on because you can tell just by reading the first page of the book. We all need a friend by our side and in this book they have limited friendship between the people on the farm.

I think the theme friendship and loneliness are the two most predominant themes in "Of Mice and Men". I think they work hand in hand. For example, Lennie and George resemble friendship. However, if one of them was to go away for some reason or if they stopped traveling together, then they would bother be really lonely and miss eachother. Even though George sometimes wishes he didn't have to travel with Lennie, he knows in the long run he would miss him very much and be lonely. Another example of this is Candy and his dog. Candy's dog acts as his best friend, and when they shoot him he is obviously heartbroken about it. He is going to be very lonely. I think these themes are easy to relate to because as high schoolers, we all need friends to talk to and help us through all the drama. Without friends, we would all be very lonely.

I believe the most dominant theme so far is lonliness. It seems as if every character has their own story and reason about why they are lonely or alone. George wants more of a companion than just Lennie. Crooks is always by himself because of his skin color. Curleys wife hates how all Curley talks about is fighting, and is lonely. I think the author chose this theme to show a bigger picture of people, and how everyone is not alone in the fact that everyone has their own way of being alone. I think it is easy for people to relate to. It makes them feel like they arent alone in something.

I think the theme that really shows is friendship. There are a lot of friendships throughout this book even though they don't seem like it. There are friendships between George and Lennie. An example would be when George really sticks up for Lennie when the boss is talking to him and when Curley tries to fight Lennie. Lennie looks up to George and thats what friendship is about. I think the author chose this theme because friendship is an important part of everyones life. It gives you someone to be there for and for someone to look after you. This is an easy theme for readers to relate too because most people have friends. Everyone usually has someone they look up too or watch and keep and eye on. Friendship is just a very important part of your life.

There is a lot of themes that stuck out but the one that stayed the most with me throughout the story is friendship. It is hsowed throughout the book whether it is a tight bond between friends or it is someone who is lacking that friend. One of the people that are lacking that friendship is Curleys wife because she is the only girl on the farm. Two people taht are really tight are Lennie and George becase they have been through a lot together. One person that is jealous of this bond is Slim because he is amazed that two people could go through so much together and stay as tight as they are. A lot of the migrant workers are lacking a friend like this because they are constintly on the road so they cant make friends for more then a couple months. I think the author chose this them because it takes back in the Depression and there was a lot of people splitting up and becoming homeless because of the lose of money. This shows the adventure of two people who could make it together and to get a message across that friendship is very important. I think it easy to realate to becuase everyone in the world has that friend that they will stick by until the end. Friendship is a very important part of li9fe and in this book.

I think one of the main dreams would have to be Dreams. This is because everybody no matter who they are have dreams. An example would have to be George and Lennie's dream to own a ranch. They have a plan all mapped out and have been thing about this for a long time. I think this author choose this theme because everybody needs to have some type of dream in there life. Dreams are sometimes things you know you want to acommplish and having them in your mind forever make life fun. You think about and you do things to achieve them. This is a theme that readers can relate to. Because everybody has a dream. They have goals to achieve and live out there dream to the fullest!

definitely friendship. its been through the whole book. you can always see it when there talking to each other. or talking about each other to other people. you can see all the sacrifices that have been made to keep the friendship. also how they look out for each other. like how gorge is trying to keep Lennie out of t rubble with curly but when curly attract Lennie he couldn't let him do that so he told Lennie to attack him.

The most predominant theme to me is lonlyness. This is shown by Candy and Crooks. Candy is lonely because he was so close with his dog and the other workers shot it and doesnt get along very well with the others. Crooks is always alone because the other men don't let him in the bunkhouse since he's black. I think maybe Steinbeck was lonely at some point in his life. Therefore he is portraying it in this book.

I feel like the number one theme within this book we are reading is defenitly friendship. Throughout the whole story, the theme is being enforced in many different ways. Like in the begenning of the book when the boss was asking questions and assuming things about Lennie, George defenitly backed him up. And when Curly was messing with Lennie, Lennie relied on George telling him what to do. They just straight up rely on eachother. If thats not friendship, I'm not sure what is. I'm sure this theme will be displayed throughout the whole book, and will still be there in the end.

my computer was broken, sorry!

I think that friendship is the most dominate theme in Of Mice and Men, so far. Specifically, Lennie is completely dependent on George, basically Lennie can't function with out him. They have a super tight bond that some people on the ranch are actually jealous of. They can't be torn apart no matter how hard anyone tries. I don't think that I've read far enough into the book to figure out why this theme is so dominant. Also, dealing with themes in books, I think that we need to know a little bit about the author and his/or her life to understand maybe why this theme is so prominent. I think that this theme is VERY easily relatable, I mean think about it, everyone has friends! Close friends or somewhat acquaintances, you can always realte.

;Didn't see it posted then i did other homework and fell asleep...

of mice and men is full of themes and motifs more then you can bite into. the one that stands out the most in my eyes is friendship. the reason i say this is because this story is all about it i cant pick one example, there are so many interactions with other people that new friends are made almost every chapter. I think that the author made friendship part of the story because two "friends" control the whole book. i think that friendship is easy for readers to relate.the reason is because everyone has friends and is basically like real life. this is how the mice of men can relate in a vast number of ways.

I believe the most predominant theme so far is friendship. Friendship was the first theme that was established in chapter one and has continued to appear throughout the story. First, and most of all, we have seen the bond between Lennie with the many occurrences that have developed. There was the instance when George stood up for Lennie in front of Curly, when the two men talked about their dream, and also when George helped Lennie defend himself from Curly. Also, we have come to see the bonds formed with the other ranchers. Candy has become close with George and Lennie and is now joining them in their quest for land. It seems Lennie, Candy, and Crooks have formed some respect for each other. Basically, it seems the whole ranch is coming together.
It seems to me the author chose this for a reason. The idea of friendship must be important and play a huge role in future events. Friendship must be part of the moral of the story and the author wants to establish this theme clearly for us. And maybe, it is because friendship is one of the easiest things to explain because everyone understands the concept and can easily relate to it because it is such a big part of our lives.
