Sorry blog is so late it has been a crazy afternoon.
Today, we went over compound sentences, simple sentences, complex sentences and compound complex sentences. We are going to try this exercise again especially since most of you did not choose to do this last week. I want you to write me a very short story (of at least 12 sentences but more if need be) using at least 2 simple sentences, 2 compound sentences, 4 complex sentences and 2 compound complex sentences. Label each sentence for the type so that I can see that you are using them correctly.
The topic is up to you so have some fun if you want. Obviously, those from last week need to write something new.
Cut and paste it into a document and bring it to class tomorrow as well. Before we begin Of Mice and Men we will look at your examples. We will be having a short quiz on these sentence types on Friday to make it worth your while to learn.

While he waited at the airport, he realized the plane was late. (cx) Sitting there thinking, he wondered what time it would be arriving. (cx) He arrived to the airport two hours ahead, and the plane still wasn't there. (cd) He started to get annoyed. (s) He looked around for his family, but he couldn't find them. (cd) After looking for a while, he noticed them sitting at another gate. (cx) Reuniting with his family, they talked about when their flight would be departing. (cx) Although the haven't left yet, they were still excited for their trip, and were eager to leave. Amber sings in the shower in the morning, and she likes to play guitar.(CD) When she gets dressed, she hums a melodie to the Wannabes, and she dances around h room.(CC) Amber's sister Sierra is just like Amber. Sierra likes to write songs, plus she likes to play Rock Band.(CD) Sierra likes to run to the bus in the morning. (S) Sierra is a very eager student, and she likes to read and write in school. (CD) When Sierra gets to school, she rushes to her locker, and she grabs her text book for Biology. (CC) After she goes to Biology, Sierra talks to her BFF Emily. (CX) Sierra sings Emily her song about being young.(S) When she is done singing, Sierra goes and finds her sister Amber. (CX) Amber and Sierra talk about there plans fo the weekend. (S) They talked about the big party in Howell where there friend Marie lives.
When they get to Howell, they jump for joy and dash into the party.(CX) After they dash in the party, Amber spots Andrew and Drew from the Wannabes. (CX) She is so excited she takes a picture with them. Amber and Sierra LOVE there life.
I love to play sports(S). When i was little, i played so many sports(CX). As i grew up, i started to narrow down the amount of sports i play(CX). I play three sports rite now, and i love all of them(CD). When school is over i usually have a practice, or i have a practice later that day(CC). My favorite sport is basketball, buy i love the play volleyball too(CD). When i play basketball i get a lot of exercise(CX). Exercising makes me feel a lot better. If i don't have a practice i like to workout still, and it makes me feel better(CC). Another sport i play is softball. While i do play this sport, it sometimes gets me in bad moods(CX). I get really frustrated when i play softball(CX). I don't just limit myself to those three sports though(S). In my free time i like to play football, soccer, and other sports(S).
(CC) I woke up on the first day of summer break, and heard the birds, and saw the sunshining. (S) I looked at the clock and it was 1p.m. (CD) The first thing I do when I wake up is open my window and smell the fresh air, knowing it will be a good day.(CX) I looked down at my drive way, and my best friend was in her car waiting for me. (S) I got ready as fast as i could. (CX) As i rn out the door, my mom yelled be home by midnight!(CC) I got in the car, the radio loud, and the windows rolled down with the AC on. (CX) I looked at my friend, we both said it'll be a great first day of summer break! (CD) We got the the beach 15 minutes later, and chilled at the lake till 11:30 realizing i had to be home at midnight!
Since today has been an exhausting day, I am going to tell you about it (Cx). It started off with school, as tired as I was; I didn't want to go(Cc). Even though I didn't have to do much, but the school day dragged on without the funny juniors in my classes (Cd). As school finished, I got nervous for the hard workouts ahead(Cx). It was very hard, but I heard tomorrow was supposed to be harder (Cd). After we finished working out, my mom came and picked me up(Cx). When we got home, I realized that it was wednesday, so I had to go to hitting practice (Cc). We started to leave the house for hitting, but the mailman pulled in the driveway(Cd). He had brought me my new bat(S). We went hitting, and we went to big boy to eat(Cd). When we got home, I started to do my homework(Cx). I have a lot(S). Before I go into what subjects I have, I am going to end this blog with a complex sentence(Cx).
After Nick arrived in Los Vegas, He hit the casinos. (cx) He was considered a pro in the casinos. (s) While Nick played blackjack, He thought about his pet he left at home, and Nick wondered if he had left enough food. (cd-cx) After Nick carefully thought about this, he decided to call his neighbor, Kevin, to go look and care for his pet. (cx) Nick cared deeply for this pet, and wanted to make sure he was okay. (cd) Kevin had a very busy life, and couldn't make it to Nick's house until later. (cd) After Kevin was done working, He attempted to rush home, but the traffic was terrible. (cd-cx) Since Kevin was rushing home, he forgot his sandwich.(cx) This was a very bad thing. (s) Since Kevin is a growing boy, he needs his sandwich! (cx)
When I woke up this morning to the sound of my alarm clock, I felt like today was going to be a good day. (cx) For some odd reason, I hopped right out of bed and straight into the bathroom to get ready without even hesitating. (cx) I was putting on my finishing touches when all of a sudden my phone starts to ring so loudly that I jump in fright, which forces me to spill my dark purple eye shadow all over my new carpet. (cx) At that moment, I only had one thing running through my mind; "Crap, I'm going to get killed". (cd) My brother was in the bathroom, so I couldn't go and get some water to clean it up. (cd) I immediatly went downstairs to my mom for help. (s) Because it was my mother's birthday, I gave my mom a huge hug; but she knew that something was wrong. (cd-cx) Although my mom was mad, I could just tell by the look on her face she was pissed, she told me to go and finish getting my things together and she would clean it up later. (cd-cx) I then ate some breakfast and went straight to school. (s) Even though I had a rough morning, the rest of the day turned out great. (cx)
There once was a boy who lived in a shoe(s). he loved his shoe so much he never left, he ran in his shoe and he ate in his shoe(CD). one day it was very hot(s). So he left his shoe for the first time in 9 years, since he had no air conditioning(CX). so the boy went to the beach to cool off, little did he know his shoe was boiling in the sun(cx). while he was chill-in at the beach he saw this foxy lady(hot lady), so he approached her, then hit it off with her(CD-CX). He spent all evening with her, playing volleyball, playing on the swings, and even fishing(CD-CX). So the boy brought the foxy lady home(S). on their way to his lovely shoe he discovered an awesome pair of gigantic laces perfect for his shoe home(CX). once he bought those laces he couldn't wait to put them on, so he sprinted home with the foxy lady(CD). once they got to his shoe home they smelt a repulsive stench, so bad the girl fainted, the young boy was confuse(CD-CX). then the boy found out why when he smelt the home, it ended up that the shoe was in the sin for so long the sun was boiling all the toxins within the shoe(CX). so the girl woke up slapped him then left the end(s).
I love cheerleading. (s) When I was in 3rd grade, I joined cheerleading. (cx) I'm on the varsity team now, and I love it. (cd) Stunting is my favorite part, but I enjoy tumbling too. (cd) After school I go home and take a nap, then I come back for practice. (cc) At practice, I get stressed out a lot. (cx) While were learning routines, people tend to slack off a lot. (cx) We often have to work a lot harder so we can get everything finished. (s) Extra practices are usually scheduled, then we have more time to learn everything better. (cc) People don't think cheerleadings a sport, then they actually see what we do and get the idea. (cx)Cheerleadings an energetic sport. (s) We work very hard, but it's worth it. (cd)

I used to be a dancer and I used to go to competitions all over the state. (cd) My first year competing was also the first year I did a solo. (s) I was so nervous about doing my solo, I could already feel the butterflys growing in my stomach all the way to the competition.(cc) When we got there, I could feel the anticipation filling every corner of the room. (cx) My dance studio all gathered as a group. (s) We streched and we got ready for our individual time on the stage. (cd) After a long time of waiting, it was finally time for me to do my solo.(cx) Within seconds, the music began, my nerves slowly faded, and my feet took over. (cc) During the dance, my smile never faded once. (cx) Once the final chorus faded, I took my bows. (cx) I had so much fun while I was on stade, I could not wait for my next dance. (cd) My mom and my dance teachers greeted me when I got off stade, and they reasured me that I had something to be proud of. (cd)

I sat near the door.(S) A breeze rolled in, and shivers ran down my spine.(CD) After that I crawled near the door and peeked under, there i noticed a small hole in the wood. (CX) I sat there speechless, wondering if maybe i would be able to fix it. (CD) I continued to sit and ponder my thoughts. (S) A few moments later i stood up and ran into the kitchen starting to gather many different items. (CX) i ran frantically around the kitchen, even though i didnt know if the things i picked up would help iwas still picking them up. (CC) Most of the time i would avoid this situation, and laze around the house all day long whining and bossing my brother around. (CX) For some reason today i just felt like helping out around the house. I figured doing this for my parents would make them very proud of me. As i ran to the door i tripped and fell tumbling to the ground, hitting my head on the wall and bursting into tears. (CX) After all of this happened i decided that not helping out around the house was a better decision for me, i tried to help, but was not very successful in doing so. (CC)
We have been on the march now for three days here in Vietnam, and I'm getting really afraid.(CD) Yesterday, one of my buddies got killed.(CX) As we were walking, a sniper shot him.(CD-CX) Is this nightmare ever going to end?(S) I am finding myself thinking about my parents more and more each day.(S) It must be really hard on them, not knowing if I'll ever come home again.(CX) I must admit, I think about that myself.(CX) I am so tired of killing and the death, It's all around me.(CD) Tomorrow we are supposed to enter a village and "secure" it.(S) In other words, we are to make sure nothing is left standing.(CX) I know it's my duty to do what I'm ordered, but I feel sad for the people whose homes we are destroying.(CD) They have no idea why it's happening, and they aren't even involved in the conflict.(CD) I heard two guys talking last night, about how they went into one village and killed everyone in sight, even the children.(CD-CX)How can anyone find the justice in killing little children.(S) Five am comes really early.(S) Dear God, Please get me out of here.(CD)

One summer, I went up north with my friend Alex(s). We got bored and decided to go into town to take a walk(cd). Wandering into a park, we came across a path that was right next to the shore line of the lake. We decided to follow it(s). As we kept walking, the trail got narrower and narrower(cd). The next thing i know, Alex slips off the path and she slides down a deep hill towards the water (cd). She lands in the water, about a foot deep, and starts crying(cx). At first, i started laughing like there was no tomorrow but then she started freaking out because her phone had fallen in the water with her(cd). I pulled her out of the water and we started back to the house(cd). She was all scratched up, still crying(s).
While waiting for summer to come, I went shopping at the mall(cd). I am ready for summer(s). I like cold better than warm, but not freezing, and i love sledding(cc). Summer is great for the beach, which is obvious(cx). I can handle the 65 degree weather, but i cant handle the 80 degree weather(cd). I just don't like hot(s). After this brutal winter, warm sounds great to me(cx). I love the lake, which is so refreshing, and I love the relaxation(cc). There is one thing i am excited for, which is going to Mackinac(cx). Though toward the end of the summer, this trip is one of my favorites(cx). I bet most people are loving how much warmer it is getting. Summer is just the perfect hing right now.
Today, I got on the computer to check my daily blog.[CD] When I finally loaded the blog, what I found was the same question as last week.[CX] I expected something about sentence structures but not the same question.[CX] I sat there and pondered for a while, I was thinking about what to say. [CD] That was until I thought of making my story on how I made my story. [S] I thought of a way to start it out.[S] I sat there for a while until I finally came up with an idea that I could use for the opening. [CD-CX] Then I realized about halfway through making this that I needed a certian amount of each type of sentence for the blog.[CD-CX] I still need to write two complex sentences in this blog.[CX] However, I have no idea what to put for them to make this work right.[CX] By writing this blog, I have just improved my sentence structure skills.[S] Not only that but I have improved my skills at blogging.[S]
I love skateboarding.(S) It has many perks.(S) It'a great accomplishing a tough trick, after trying it over and over you finally land it.(CD) It's great being out in the sun, boarding with my pals in the warm summer air.(CD) The easiest trick to do is an ollie since it's a simple motion.(CX) My favorite trick is a varial kickflip, two tricks in one.(CX) It is a kickflip and a pop shove it, creatively executed.(CX) I like street skating more than vurt skating, rails and ledges instead of ramps.(CX) I enjoy skateboarding more than snowboarding: I feel I can be morecreative in skateboarding, since I'm not strapped into the board.(CD-CX) The weather is also a factor in why I enjoy skateboarding more than snowboarding: snowboarding can be hard to do for long periods of time, because of the cold.(CD-CX) I Usually skate at Drake Skate Park.(S) It's in West Bloomfield.(S)
When the moon rose in the sky, she knew he’d be waiting (CX). She knew that when the stars began to loom out of the shadows cast by the clouds, it was time again (CC). The moment had come (S). The moon peaked out from behind repressing clouds to throw shadows onto the floor and cause a shiver of remembrance to trickle down her spine (CD). She reminisced in the memories of previous nights; walking with him, talking with him, laughing with him (CD). If there was any doubt in her mind before, she was now positive the risk was worth the impossible feeling of utter happiness he always gave her (CX). When she was certain her parents were asleep, she slowly creaked the door open and closed and escaped down the stairs and out the door without a sound (CC). Jumping on her bike, she began the long journey toward her waiting secret (CX). The journey seemed everlasting and the terrain posed a challenge with its limitless steeps and exhilarating plunges (CD). Before her heart could burst through her chest with adrenaline and exhaustion, she saw the familiar house, with a familiar lawn, and a familiar face (CX). Her Heart skipped a beat (S). There he was (S). Moonlight painted his face with such handsome beauty it appeared supernatural; completely entrancing (CD). No longer could she contain herself (S). She flung herself into his arms, and in that moment, she knew she was truly home (CD).
as i walk out the door, i grab my gun, grab my coat, and leave the house.(cx)i hop in my truck,put the keys in the ignition, give it a quarter turn and throw it into drive and take off.(cx)as i get down the road in my ford, a deere hops out in front of the truck, i slam on the break and come to a complete stop.(cx) as i push on the gas, i take off.(cx) i get to my hunting spot in the woods in the U.P, get in my tree stand and sit.(cd)i see a monster buck walk out of the foggy swamp, he walks slowly tward me and then stops.(cd) then he puts his head down and a couple more come out and start eating with him.(cd-cx)then they get startled and i lift my rifle up and they take off,they come to a stop and then i lift my gun again and then they take off again.(cd-cx) i see another come.(s)i lift my rifle then pull the trigger(s)the deer is down.(s)
I open my eyes this morning to the sun shining on my face, I felt like today was going to be interesting. (cx) For once in my life, I jumped right up and didn't hit the snooze button. (cx) I started to get ready for the day when my phone suddenly rang, which caused me to trip over my dog. (cx) At that point, I was so frustrated I could only think "That dog needs to sleep in his bed". (cd) I had to take a shower, so I couldn't go and move him somewhere else. (cd) I finished getting ready quickly. (s) Because I had school today, I grabbed some lunch money. (cd-cx) Even though today was Monday, I could tell today was going to be a good day, with a good feeling in my soul. (cd-cx) I sat in the car listening to music. (s) I had an early start this morning, with no regrets of tripping over my dog. (cx)
the day started as any other, the alarm waking me from my dream with a start.CD today was no different. everything was normal untill i was going to school, on the buss.cx it seemed prety normal ecsept everyone had there heads down, i couldent see there faces.cd-cx i say down and the buss started moving.s we were going down a dirt road pretty fast and we hit a large pot howl.cd-cx i notest a few heads pop up, thinking to my self maby there was some life on this buss.cd i hear the bus driver scream as im strainging to see what hapend.cx more heads raise,uttering only strange moans.cx i was thinking how wierd this is when a group of them rushed me. cx i try to get out the back of the bus but cant seem to reach the emergency exit handle. cd a zombie kid, for that is what they seemed to be, croling under the seets grasped my ankle and bit into my achile tendon. i screamed in pain. i then woke up to my alarm ringing in my ear. s got up and went to school.
When I go to school, I see all my friends in the morning (cx). All of my friends are Seniors and Juniors, I'm really not friends with any Sophomores (cd). I'm definitely not friends with any Freshman (s)! When I go to lunch, Everyone at my table are Juniors, and due to the MME's none of them were technically at school today (cd-cx). I hated sitting at my table alone, it was super awkward (cx). I was so happy when my friend Alyssa came and sat by me, she brought the people from her table so we weren't alone too (cd). When lunch was over, everyone helped clear the table, and we all pushed in our chairs so we wouldn't get in trouble (cd-cx). I was so happy (s)! When we were walking back from lunch, I saw some of the people who usually sit at my table (cx). I told them that I sat all by myself at lunch, they told me that they were really sorry and that they couldn't even go if they wanted to (cd). I said that it's o.k., they kept apologizing and i kept saying that it was fine (cx). I walked to my locker with my friend Alyssa, I am so happy that I knew at least one other person in my lunch (cd).
(s) There lived a girl. (s) Her name was Jeen. (cd) She had brown hair, and her eyes were green. (cx) When she'd go into town, she liked to stop by the river. (cd cx) Wading in the river, she laid back and she enjoyed the sun. (cd) One day, a fish jumped up, and it landed on er stomach. (cd) It flopped around, and it got grime all over her. (cx) When she pushed it off, she looked at her stomach in discust. (cd) Her stomach was muddy and it was black mud. (cd cx) When she washed off the mud, she got out of the water, and she dried herself off. (cx) She then went to her bike, grumbling to herself. While riding back into town, she laughed at the fish. (cx) By the time she got to town she was no longer mad at the fish.
