Sometimes when we let a persons perception define us, we lose who we really are. A persons perception starts to become what we believe we are. We form to the ideas of what people think we are. If person A say person B is a nerd and more people join in on the idea, person B slowly conforms to the idea that he or she is a nerd. Other times a persons perception can ware a person down. Being called a slut or a whore is a "normal" thing in modern day high school. It's a perception that most high schoolers have of other high school girls. Even if a girl isn't qoute-on-quote "a slut", just the notion can ware down a girls self esteme. In a way perception does define us because thats how our way of life has formed. But we should never let people mess with the perception we have of ourselfs. That is our ultimate downfall.
I believe that this quote is trying to tell people to not let what other people think of you, BE you. I think that each and every one of us are entitled to make ourselves what we want to be. We shouldn't let other people constrict us to a certain title, or group of people. If we let people decide for us what they want us to be, then it's truly not US in the first place. Why would we want to be something other than what we truly are? It just doesn't make sense, we would have to keep up or live down an image that doesn't reflect the true us. Sometimes false perceptions and identities come from rumors. If it comes from drama, then you have to fight against it and set the record straight. But, if you're not trying to fix it, and are acting the part to fit the perception, then it's your own fault. For example, If people perceive someone as a whore, but the girl denies it, and then you find out that she is actually playing the part, then it's her fault. Sometimes people base their perceptions off of the people that a certain someone hangs out with, if you don't want to be known and affiliated with that certain group, then it's simple, don't hang out with them.
I think this quote is saying that some peoples perseption about people can be short and simple. Like if you see someone you could just define them as mean or nice, rich or poor, black or white and that's it. There is always so much more to that person. Also, people may see you and just say oh she's ugly or pretty or smart or dumb. It's not just black and white. I have seen people and created a simple perception about them but when I got to them, they were really cool and I became really good friends with them. You can't let these perceptions define you ad even though it's hard, you have to ignore it and be yourself. Some people thrive on what people think of them. I couldn't imagine living my life like that. I have gotten caught up with what I hear people say about me but it's better just to ignore it and stay true to yourself.
I think that this quote means that we should never what someone thinks of you truly effect who you are. If you take in what everyone says to you, then sometimes that can turn into reality. This can be a negative, or a positive effect on a person. It can be positive because lets say that there's a girl and she's not the most attractive person you've ever seen. If people keep complimenting her on how she looks, then she can use that positive energy and it can increase her self confidence so much. Even though that there is a positive side, there is a negative side to this. Lets say that there is a very mean group of people, boys or girls that pick on another person who isn't in their group of friends. They can say all the time that the person they are picking on is mean, fat and ugly and they think that it woun't effect them, but it will. This person's confidence will deminish just because of other's perceptions of them. All in all, people's perceptions can cause positive and negative affects on people.

Most of the time when you hear someone judge you or hear something bad that they said about you, you feel upset. We generally let too many peoples thoughts get to us way too often. Everyone has to ignore these perceptions and just remember who you really are. You should never let someones thoughts get to you. Especially when you know yourself better then they know you. Perceptions are just caused by what they think of you on the outside. They never really know who you are on the inside. I think this quote means that you should never think that perceptions about you are alwayws true. Perceptions causes peoples self confidence to lower when they hear things about them. You just need to stay true to yourself and ignore what other people say about you.
I think we let people's perception of us effect how we see ourselves. Our peer's "critisim" has a major effect how we feel about our self and even perseve ourselves. Todays generations worries to much about what other people think of them then how you feel about yourself and we "shape" who we are by what other people want to see and want us to be. I's like we are affraid to come out and be who we are becasue we will think waht everyone else will think of us, judge us, and make their perception of us by what they see not by who we are. Soemtimes we change who we are just to fit in and impress the people around us becasue we fear judgment. I think we need to stop caring about what people think about us and finally break through at let our true colors shine and be who we are and not who people want us to be. We arent putting on a show for anyone so we need to live our lives the way we want to.
This quote is trying to tell people not do what others are doing if you don't believe in it. When you start to allow people to shape the way you think and act you start to lose who you truly are. This quote shows people that it is ok to be your own person and not just go with the norm. By taking this step you are making sure that you stand out from the crowd and not just become what everyone else is. If you fail to be your own person, you let other peoples views make you what you are. People make up perceptions about people every single day. If you dress a certain way or hang around a certain group of people, then you get a label that follows with it. These labels are usually what defines people because most people don't want to stand out and be their own person they would rather just have other peoples impressions dictate the perceptions of others. If you want people to view you a certain way then you have speak out and let it be known that you are not like everyone else and that other peoples perceptions won't change that.
Jane Matta The quote tells us that we can't let peoples views of us become who we actually are. Sometimes we find that people are not only judgemental but they tend to just characterize each person in the way they see it. Sometimes, people let other peoples judgements and perceptions get the best of us. We tend to fall into the perceptions they have made instead of overcoming them and proving we are more then just what they think we are. This quote tells us to not just mold ourselves to the peoples "limited perception". People's perceptions are limited because they lay a fine line of who they think they are and once that line is there, there is not erasing it. It is sometimes hard for people to prove that the perceptions made about them are untrue. Some people find it intimidating. But these days, especially in high school, we need to learn to just not care what other people's perceptions of us are. It is a very hard and mature thing to do but it has a lot better outcome.
I think this quote means we can not let other peoples perceptions about us make us who we are. I people are saying your something and you do not stand up for who you are you are going to be labeled that. You have to define yourself as who you are. Do not let other people make assumptions for who you truely and really are. If you want people to define you as a great basketball player or great cheerleader or hardworker you have to prove it. Do not let people form ideas of who you are. You can not let people label you. Plus, you can not let people's perceptions, that are usely wrong, define who you are. Stand up for yourself and do not listen to what people are saying about you. Because, most of the time they are wrong. When we let people's perceptions define us we do not do anything to correct the assumption. Never let people put a label on you. If we let them do that, we never build the perception we want up again.
In this quote it says "we must not allow others perceptions to define us." I think this means that as our own person we should make our own perceptions. Everyone in the world is different there are some very open minded people and some short minded people. As your own person you should not allow the short minded persons perception to become your own. Most people however do not follow this quote. Peoples minds are like clay, they form to their surroundings. If the people they hang around are thinking something most likely that person will begin to think that way as well. This is why we should all try to except this quote in oour everyday lives. Instead of floowing a short minded opinion try to open your mind. Also instead of thinking the same as someone else try to think for yourself.
Good or bad, everyone has perceptions of people. Most people make perceptions on first impressions. Some people see someone and say they're useless, or say they would never be able to do anything important. After hearing this, those people usually give up. What they should do is take it as a challenge to prove them wrong. They shouldn't let other people's thoughts of them limit their abilities. This quote is saying that people shouldn't live by what other people expect. What other people expect of you is generally limited. Nobody really knows what you are capable of, so you shouldn't be limited by their perceptions. You should do what will make you an individual, not what other people expect.
This quote really speaks to me. Upon reading this i realized that other people's way of thinking can affect how we think of not only other people but ourselves as well. We start to believe what other tell us we are. High School is the main source of positive or negative perceptions in our lifes today. One positive perception that a person has made would be The story of Johnny and Bob. Johnny thinks that Bob is a nerd. If Johnny tells Bob that he is a nerd everyday, Bob will start to believe that he is a nerd. If Bob thinks that he is a nerd, he will believe in himself and earn good grades. One negative perception would be the story of Steven and Nick. Steven thinks that Nick a burnout, so he calls him that everyday. Evenually, Nick would believe that he is a burnout and start doing bad in school. This quote can lead to the build-up of something great, or can lead to the downfall of a person.
In the world people percive others alot. People go and live how others pecive them and believe them and believe the things others say. This quote means don't listen to what others think of you live how you want to live and don't let anyone tell oyu differnt. I showed i dont care what people thought about me when i came to school in a purple pimp outfit. Some told me i looked rediculous some said i looked awsome but i didn't really care what they thought. Another reason would be similar to a rumor, such as someone is a stoner. You would probibly believe them and percieve them as one of the stoners. They might take offence to it an fall into the belief that they really are a stoner. Also maybe other tell someone so long that they start acting differently. Maybe if they say you look like a queen they could start acting like one and loose all there firends.
The idea that Virgina Satir is trying to display is that the tainted opinions of others should never influence how we see our own selves. Without reason, without thought, we often obsess with the perceptions of others. We base our actions and decisions on what will give us the best image. We start to live our lives the way others want us to, not the way we want to. When we give in to this lifestyle, we eventually lose ourselves. Lost in the opinions of others, drowning in self doubt, hiding behind insecurity, we are no longer an individual. We, as our own person, must define ourselves. Don’t stress about what other people think. The only perception that matters is the one of your own. We were given the gift of freedom of choice, so don’t waste it. Be your own person and don’t let the limited or controlled perceptions of others get in your way of living your life the way you want it to be lived.
We sometimes let perceptions of our selfs impact the way we do things. Even if its not something major, we let it "define" us. We should not let the way other people view us make a negative impact on our lifes. We should live freely, the way we want to without the opinions of others being an issue. If a persons perception of you is limited, they dont see all of you. Whether that be they only see the good, or they only see the bad. We must not let it define as people. How we are viewed by other people should be up to us and how we potray ourselves, not as others view it. I believe this is a very good, and useful quote for people to live by. It should be very meaningful to people, and they should take it into account.
Many quotes tell the truth about people no matter how they are worded even if they don't agree. This quote speaks about the human nature and its different faces. in this quote i think the main point of this is how people define us as people. what i think this quote means overall is basically exactly what the quote says. in my own opinion i think it means we know who we are and no one can tell you otherwise. this is its own example of what i am trying to say. What i mean by this is this phrase can be interpreted in many ways but boils down to one meaning. some other good examples lye in our own school and my own experiences. when i first came to high school who i thought were "thugs" were actually really cool people that i hangout with now. this is how i thought of the quote and how i could perceive this quote and some examples.
Others peoples perceptions based on limited knowledge of the person can have a impact on his or her lives if they let it get to them. Therefore, They try to change themselves in the way that the he or she thinks that the other person accepts as normal. This could change a persons life if they keep trying to change for other people just because they percieve them as a person who is Gothic or different in any way shape or form. The person that is being perceived as fat might try to loose weight in order to be accepted. Then there are the people who think they are being perceived in one way but are really perceived in another. Such as if a skinny person thinks that they are fat and they try to get any skinnier they might turn anorexic or even Bulimic. Now if someone doesn't really care how they are perceived as will have less stress because they aren't always being worried about what other people percieve them as. Rather, they would be thinking what could I do to Improve myself in the way I want to be. Not going by what other people think of it. That will help them become a better person, Not following what they think other people think they should be like.
This quote, in my eyes means that as small a perception from one person doesn't make it true. This would mean if someone says a small perception about a person, that person could have it proven wrong. This happens all the time in school, like when people just see others in the hallway. Often people call others gay in school. Some people take this very seriuosly, some people could care less about that. People call each other things like this every day in school, these are all false perceptons. No matter how big or how small, every little thing said wrong about someone can hurt them. Sometimes these things are said about me, but sometimes I say these about others. I only say it to my friends that I know can handle it, but I still shouldn't say these. When people do things like this they hurt others, sometimes others hurt them for things like this. If people were to stop making hurtful perceptions, life would be so much easier. Some people just need to live without hurting others, and perople need to live without being mean.
This quote means that others will define us as particular people and put us in particular roles that we may not play in life. They label us as well, by saying that we may be goth or emo by wearing black or preppy by wearing clothes that appear as dress up clothes. The quote is telling us that we can exceed what these people are labeling us as and we can be more than what people actually see us as being. People will always judge and label us and have their perceptions of us but we can prove to be much more than that. We should never pretend to be less than we are just because that's all everyone else sees us as. We should show everyone else the most we can be. We should also never make ourselves believe anything negative that other tell us about ourselves. Before we know if it will turn into reality if we do. This quote also means that people are not willing to see you as the real person that you are but their just skimming the outside surface and not taking the time to know you but of course, taking the time to judge you and create perceptions of you, in our society today.
This is a great quote and has plenty of pure meaning that relates to my life. This means that we must be aware of our surroundings and know that there is a time and place for everything, but at the same time not worry about what people think about us. As long as we stay true to ourselves and know the truth about what goes on in our lives, rumors and put downs that may negativelt alter peoples' outlook on us, we shouldn't let it get us down. For example, It took many people a while to get used to me in high school because of my style and music hobbys. I wasn't the regular jock like everyone else. Then peolpe started calling me gay and making such false perceptions. However, they could've said whatever they wanted in their closed minded heads because I knew I wasn't gay or weird, just different with them. As long as we are comfortable with ourselves we shold never let others get us down. As limited perceptions means closed or judgemental minded, we should stick up for ourselves. We must not let people bring us down, for we are all equal. We should live our lives, and let otheres live theres.
i like this one allot also, for several reasons.what it means is we cant base are actions and life on how other people think you should. another way to put this is just because someone thinks your doing something wrong in your life dosint mean you should listen to them. for example if your into somthing kind of of strange, like wearing capes to school and stuff. other people cant understand why he would do this and make fun of him for it. just because they can understand it dosint mean that he should stoop. you should make your own desitions. this can also fit with many other things. like if your gay, or listen to odd music, there all your rights and you should do them as you pleas. you shouldent just stop cus people cant understand it, like the quote says. be yourself is basicly what its saying.
This quote is very powerful and inspirational. As a person we cannot allow others to judge us in ways that we do not feel is right. We need to open the doors to the endless possibilities that others can find within us. Perception is a tricky thing to guide others into understanding. The way another may perceive you is what they feel you come across as and sometimes it could be completely misleading. So as a responsible and honest person it is vital to guide them along their way of understanding you. To care about what others think may not be the best thing for you but it will definitely help you with much needed self confidence. If others may perceive you poorly, to care about what they think and fix it is to save yourself. Care about peer perceptions and respect opinions. People will respect you for it.
