The massive earthquake that struck Chile on Saturday may have shifted the Earth's axis and created shorter days, scientists at NASA say. each day will only be 1.26 milliseconds shorter however. but the change is permanent. this will affect everyone on earth obviously. evan though we may not notes the changes it is there. the affects will minute but it will effect are lives in one way or another. i dont no what ells to say about this though. i just though it was a pritty cool article.

The story I chose to summarize is "A bus hits, kills woman in bus accident". This story is about a blind woman that was up early in the morning and as she was crossing the street, a bus hits her. She was also wearing dark clothing and a hood. The police say the hood probabaly prevented her from seeing the bus arriving. It was Aldo early in the morning which means it was dark also. This effects me and everybody else in a neagtive way beacuse this bus driver would have been able to see her is he had been paying closer attention, she could have been safe and alive right now. This man may have had his lights on, I'm not sure, but even if she had dark clothing on, she could have been seen with close attention and with the head lights on. It's scary to think that people can get hurt or die so easily. If I had a child, they could have been crossing the street o get a ball and got hit by that bus. The bus driver probably feels bad but this could have been prevented.

Today in London, a pakastani muslim leader issued a 600 page long fatwa, a religious edict, that callled for the end of terrorism. The thing called that suicide bombing should be done under no circumstances. The religious leader is greatly respected and well known in the muslim community. Hopefully this can be good steps taken towards the ending of terrorism. I believe this has a great effect on the world because if muslims really look up to this guy and he took the the time to put together a 600 page thing calling for the end of slavery then people may listen to him. Also he is making it well known that all muslims are not terrorists and that its just a stereotype that people have abou them.

Thousands of American, Afghan, and British troops storm the city of Marja, Afghanistan in an attempt to destroy the Taliban's latest haven. The attack by the 6,000 troops is the biggest offensive in the country since the United States invaded Afghanistan in 2001. (Feb. 14): A U.S. rocket strike that went awry kills at least 10 civilians in the Helmand province. Five children were among those killed. this effects us just by how we kno theres terriorist who could careless about us and just wanna blow us up and puts fear in us.

My current event is "An inconvenient challenge: Eat 'real food' for a month". This article says that it is hard to eat only real foods and none of the processed foods. Alot of the people found it harder to stay away from the processed foods. This is a real eye opener. It tells us that we have alot of processed foods and we do not have alot of the real foods we need. People need real foods that make us healthy. The processed foods just do not really do anything for you. For a heathier life style we should eat all natural REAL foods. None of the processed JUNK!

Cars are being recalled more frequent and today GM is doing the same. To day GM called for a recall on 1.3 mill compact cars that include Chevrolet Cobalts, Pontiac G5s, Pontiac Pursuits, and Pontiac G4s sold in Mexico. the Problem in these cars are the Power steering, apparently the steering can fail which can be a problem when going under 15 MPH. So far 1,100 complaints have been filed and 14 crashes have been reported. this could effect many people sense GM is already having trouble staying in business. this could effect me because this business has a possibility of failing after a 1.3 mill recall due to people not trusting the quality of the vehicles. this was how GM announced today about there vehicle recall and my response.
Fords sales are up more then 40%. February much of the gain was due to a 74% jump in fleet sales to businesses. Rental car companies alone accounted for just over 30,000 vehicle sales. Without the rental companies Ford sales would have been up only 13% in the month.
An all time high for them. Gm is up about 12% and toyota is down about 9%. Carter said some customers likely delayed purchases to see what offers Toyota would be making to win back consumers. He estimated sales were down about 18000 in the month due to the recall problems.

On saturday, an 8.8 magnitude earthquake hit Chile. The death toll hit 795 people on Tuesday. More then 13,000 soilders are being dispatched to Chile. At least 12 after shocks were recorded after the earthquake had happened. Our recent earthquakes had been in Chile and Haiti. I think Haiti has been treated better then Chile when their earthquake didn't have a big magnitude like Chiles. I think its being treated unfairly. They should both be having people be helping them out, but maybe Chile deserves to have a little bit more help. Especially since Chile's happened more recently.

Today a 58-year-old man was arraigned today on charges stemming from the Sunday shooting of his live-in girlfriend in St. Clair Shores. George Arthur Cass pleaded not guilty in 40th District Court to counts of assault with intent to murder and felony firearm. The assault charge carries a penalty of up to life in prison. This highly effects me because one day I could have a live-in boyfriend and at any moment he could snap and try and kill me. This is why people should go to anger management classes and special help for people who are mentally unstable. We don't know if there was any domestic violence before this but a lot of women get beaten by their husbands and boyfriends, emotionally and physically. As a girl, I read these articles a lot and now because of crazy men out there I don't know if I will ever trust the man I end up marrying.

The University of Arkansas's mainly white sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha won the inaugural Sprite Step Off stepping competition on February 20th. This sounds normal however, the competition was created by African American faternaties and sororities and is considered an essential key to their culture. This caused an upstir for the African Americans, questioning how a white sorority could beat them at something in their own culture. African Americans were furious. This effects me because things are different then they were back when African Americans weren't allowed to go to the same resturants as white people or drink from the same water fountain. These days, everyones rights are equal because of the laws that have been planted however there are still prejustices. We have to learn to overcome these prejustices and simply accept the fact that we are all people regaurdless of our color, race, or religion. I understand how the African Americans feel about this because it is their own culture but they need to realize that we are all just people.

"The massive 8.8 earthquake that struck Chile may have changed the entire Earth's rotation and shortened the length of days on our planet." This is an insane thing that has happened in my mind. I can't believe that an earthquake can shift earth's axis. It's hard to comprehend, I mean one earth quake moved the whole world. In my opinion, the scientist who said this needs to get his facts straight before he can say this. However, I guess it could be possible because according to this article the earthquake in Chile was the seventh strongest one ever recorded in history. This is big news to me, even our days will be shorter because of this movement. The scientist who said this was brave because people will doubt him.

Jay Leno is back to his original 11:30 time slot. Conan O'Brien is now out of his spot due to this change. Leno was pushed to a 10 o 'clock time spot in high hopes that he would receive a larger following. Either way he dominates the nations televisions in the nightly. However, this gave the two plenty to talk and joke about on the floor. It goes to show you you shouldn't fix what isn't broken. I personally am a Letterman fan anyways.

Ford's luck may have finally turned. In February, Ford's sales have jumped 43%. They have beat GM for the first time in 13 years. This affects us greatly. Since over half the jobs in America have a direct/indirect relationship with the car companies, this will help everyone because Ford will start producing more cars to help keep people in jobs. Hopefully Ford and the other big car companies can continue to do well and help our economy. We need to keep our people in jobs and the economy will keep improving.

With all the pay cuts and job losses going on in the U.S we have added one more job to the list of receiving huge pay cuts. The story i chose to write about is "Saturday delivery may end". We all have noticed the change in economy however the United States Postal Service is just now starting to cut back. The postal service thinks it would save more money to stop saturday mail. The USPS believes that it would not change much if they stopped their saturday delivery. I think this is a good idea it wastes gas which is money to the postal service. I notice that in my family we dont usually go out and grab the mail on saturdays anyways so it wouldnt make a big difference to me if we didnt have saturday mail anymore. In our society most people say they do not grab their mail on saturdays even if they do receive it. Since a lot of money is lost for gas on saturdays delivery i think it would be right to just not deliver it instead.

This past Saturday there was an 8.8 magnitude earthquake in Chile that stole about 795 people's lives. Officials say the tally likely will increase in coming days as search-and-rescue crews dig into collapsed buildings and discover more bodies. More than 13,000 soldiers were being dispatched to secure order. This affects my life because this shows that earthquakes can be a very dangerous natural disaster. There may have been people that I have known for a while killed in the disaster. The families of the all the dead Chileans. I hope that Chile can get rebuilt like it was before the disaster and maybe even better.

Tha massive Earthquake that hit Chilie may have changed the entire Earths rotaion and shortened days on Earth by 1.26 milliseconds. This earthquake is the 7th strongest earthquake recorded in history with a 8.8. NASA officals said that "This makes the Chile fault more effective in moving Earth's mass vertically and hence more effective in shifting Earth's figure axis." Chilie's Earthquake has killed more than 700 people and caused widespread devastation in the South American country. It is offset from the Earth's north-south axis by about 33 feet (10 meters).

Recently a massive earthquake has struck Chile once again. News that this may have slightly moved the earths axis is spreading throughout the scientific community. Our day will be shortened by 1.26 milliseconds. I as well as everyone else is severely affected by this drastic change. That is 1.26 millionths of a second i will never get back. Personally, i feel gyped of my youth. Adults affected arent losing the best years of their lives so why do we have to get the short end of the stick? Life is already short and now due to this earthquake.. its even shorter.

At least 106 bodies had been recovered Tuesday after massive landslides wiped out several villages around Mount Elgon on the Uganda-Kenya border. The army has joined the search for an estimated 245 people who are still missing and feared dead in eastern Uganda's Bududa district after Monday night's landslides, which were brought on by unusually heavy rain in the third week of the annual rainy season, according to State Minister for Disaster Preparedness Musa Ecweru.Dozens of bodies were recovered from a hospital and church where people had run to seek shelter. The hospital and church were buried when torrents of mud swept down on them, and the death toll is most likely to continue rising. When i read stories like this, it makes me feel bad for those people who lost their homes, the families and maybe even their lives. The world should try and help every country that needs it. An example would be how the haitian people got help for their terrible earth quake.
This Tuesday officials announced that a new medical policy for our troops will be established in upcoming weeks in which troops involved in roadside bombing will be pulled from duty and examined for 24 hours before being released again. Preceding worries about troops involved in street bombing, or in any injuring circumstances, possibly developing traumatic brain injuries precipitated this new establishment. In some instances, these damages may not show up for months or years later and in cases of serious concusions, the victim may not even realize he has one. These new polocies are expected to benefit our troops in their futures after the war, which, in turn, will help not only the troops but our families as well. When troops come home to having mental health issues for the rest of their lives it hurts our communities, the families, and most of all these young men risking their lives (and health) for their country.

Senate votes unemployment benefits, highway funds. This current event is about raising money for the unemployed. On Tuesday, the Senate passed a $10 billion measure to maintain unemployment benefits for the long time homeless. Although this is good the bill also stopped funding for highway programs. This bill affects the unemployed well, but it effects the employed not so well. The unemployed get money and federal benefits they wouldn't have gotten without the bill. While we are helping the job-less people it also hurts the employed. Eventually, they are going to have to pay for this by having taxes raised or something.
