Nice morning even if it was about grammar and vocabulary. Do not wait until the last minute to study for these quizzes as they are worth 25 points every week.
Since we really had not discussion today, we are going to begin do our weekly current event. The way this works is that you find a topic that is current based on a newspaper, magazine or online news source. You need to explain your current event and then discuss how this event connects to you and your community. Last, you must cite your source from the current event. Events cannot be entertainment or sports related unless you can show how they have a true connection to the greater community.

The current event that I chose is based on the war in Iraq. This war has been going on since mid 2002. My community isn't in Iraq but it still is affected. It connects to me and my community because it may be me going to the war, or someone in my community may know someone that had to go. Many people are diing there. If this war stops then millions of American citizens will be happy. I just hope President Obama stops it soon.
My current event is the Lakeland Baseketball Golf Outing (baseball + basketball). The information has been given out about it today and im excited. I'm excited because I like golfing and baseball. Also,I'm excited because I get to help fundraise for the team and school. This connects to the comunity because the baseball team is ran by the school and the school is part of the comunity. If the fundraiser goes as well as it did last year we will get a lot of money for the team. Last year we smented the batting cage and bought seats for the field with the money earned. We also did field work with the money. I really hope the fundraiser goes as well as last year.

The current event I chose to do is based on the auto industry. This has a dire effect on our community. Many of our family members and friends have jobs that will be affected by the auto industry. Barrack Obama is trying to raise the standard for cars by setting a minimum of 35.5 mpg by the year 2016. This is a big deal as some cars made here are way below this standard. My dad, for example works at Chrysler. He has been staying at work later and later since the government bailouts. I believe Michigan should start working on alternate energy jobs.
The current event i chose was about an image of Obama as a witch doctor and how people are taking it rasist. There were protestors for Obama's health care and some of them had signs of Obama's head on a witch doctor symbolizing that that thought his health care was poor. I don't have a problem with people protesting about his health care because they have the right to let people know how they feel about the situation. But for people to make a big deal about that particular picture is rediculus. People made more offensive posters about Bush and it wasn't a big deal then. People are only making it a big deal now because Obama is an african-american and they figured it's rasist, when it's not. This effects my community because this issue is limiting people's right of speech. You can say whatever you want about Obama as long as it's not threatening. If they start making it a huge deal about what you say about the president then it is going to change the way alot of individuals live.

For my current event, I chose the story on three NFL players that will donate their brains and spinal tissue to the Boston Universirty Medical School. The brains and tissues will be used to study sports brain injuries. Even though they are not the first NFL players to donate, they are the first to be active donaters. There is Matt Birk of the Baltimore Ravens. Also Lofa Tatupu of the Seattle Seahawks. And finally Sean Morey of the Arizona Cardinals. By giving their donations, it will help communites all over the U.S. and maybe even the world to better prevent brain and spinal cord injuries while playing sports.

The current event that i chose is the Health Care Reform that President Obama is trying to put together for the whole country. Obama wants to make everybody's health care universal, and people dont want that to happen. I think that people should be in control of their own health care. This is connected with the whole community because it is everyones health care that he wants to be in control of. And many citizens do not want that. My question is why would you want to make health care a governmental thing? And when so many people disagree and do not want it, why would you go against that? I hope that Obama realizes this and considers it.

My current event is going to be on our presidant himself. Obama is running this county into the gound. He has spent more money in the past few months then bush did in his entire 8 years. Where do you think hes getting this money? It's not comming out of his pocket, its comming from out parents. Also, the cash for clunckers thing he came up with completely backfired. People were trading in cars getting money( from tax payers) and buying forigen cars!!!....now i think that is complete BS. Basicly he gave people money to give to other countries. Also he hasn't kept one promise sence hes been in office, hes just been talking out of his butt the whole time and fooled everyone that voted for him. Personaly i think McCaine would have been the better choice. This is just my opinion but i think is another country declared war on us, Obama wouldn't do a thing. Thats just how he is. Im getting into this too much. This is my event....i came up with this so no citing. Actually some on this info came from US history and my uncle. So props to them.
My current event is based on the terror raid in New York. The Joint Terrorism Task Force raided several locations Monday, searching for explosive devices or components intended to be used on targets in the New York area. After Afghan nationals attended or circulated at a New York-area mosque. It's the first time anyone can say that Afghan nationals were suspected of involvement in a plot to attack the United States. After many search warrants put out, no explosive devices or components intended to be used on targets in the New York area, were found. Even though it happened in New York everyone should be aware because we are all AMerican citizens and it can happen anywhere. Remember 9/11!

my current event is on obama helping polocys for the autoworkers. obama said one of the main reason he had ran for president was to help working family. i think that this connects to our comunity because people in michgan are constantly loseing there jobs. obama has been trying to repair our country with his failing programs like chash for clunkers and his stimulas program. president obama admitts that in order for our country to survie we need to get our auto companys back on their feet. he has yet said to the people how he plans to get the auto companysback on their feet though.those are my opions on president
The current advent that i chose is about the teacher strike at Oakland university. What happened was that the school raisd student tuition. the teachers felt that sens the school was making more money they should make more money to. many of the students agreed with the teachers and marched with there protest. This affecting the community buy preventing the students the education they paid for. the students were cant in the middle of the fight.

My current event is when Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swifts award at the VMA's. I think we as people are allowed to share are opinions with others as in freedom of speech unless they hurt others. What Kanye did to Taylor Swift was completely immature and rude. In what Kanye did i think there was a lesson to be learned. The lesson is that if you have nothing nice to say dont say it at all. This effects are community because we wouldnt come together to help each other like we do if we didnt hold our tongues. So if what you're going to say is going to hurt someone you probably shouldnt say it at all.
"A girl who was snatched off the street 18 years ago has been found and the man-and-wife team that allegedly grabbed her has been arrested and charged with kidnapping and rape"(http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=8426124).
Janycee Lee Dugard was taken at the age of 11 kidnapped and raped. this dramatic event has disconnected her from society and shocked local communities. this connects to many parents and my community to really open eyes up because that could one day be another parents kid. my community could have one of these children missing for decades even if the people seem harmless. this really connects to me because i could not imagine what it would be like without loving parent. the main point is that this poor girl taken at the age of 11 has definitely been a significant event after reuniting with who parents after 18 years.
The current event I am choosing to write about is Late Blight. Late Blight is a airbourn disease that is killing crops. This disease attacks mainly Tomatoes and potatoes, but it can also attack other vegetables. It is affecting the price of produce. The price of veggies is going up because a percentage of the crops is getting destroyed. This will affect the community because everyone is trying to save their money, and having to pay more for produce will not help this cause. I got my information at this website...

The current event I chose was the release of Paramore's new single, brick by boring brick. This topic really interests me and many young teenage girls. The song has lyrics that really hit home, and describes the reality of how some girls are feeling with life lately. It touches on how a person can hide what they are honestly feeling inside, and says things most girls cant express on their own. This song should bring public attention to the fact that teenagers are overwhelmed and are trying to be strong when its truly impossible. Society needs to understand that standards are set way too high these days and teens are suffering in silence, to keep everyone else happy. The community around us will soon see that this is our new reality.

My current event is about 16 men from Pontiac indicted by the federal grand jury. There 16 men were accused for being apart of a violent drug gang. There are men of all ages, from 21-39. Also, they were caught with cocaine from 2007-2009. This ties into our community because this is relatively close to where we live. Also, I think that this is trying to tell people to stop being involved in gangs and doing drugs. I hope people who read this and are in violent drug gangs will stop because you can end up in a bad place, such as these men.

There are are many issues going on in the world today. My topic is going to be about 3 brave NFL players that are donating brains for the study of injury. Injuries are big in the world of sports and with these donations to Boston University medical program then these can be figured out. With these donations the reseach will then go beyond the sport world. With this reseach they can prevent and fix head injuries and back injuries in the work world to. With many people getting hurt the research can now be done to show how you can prevent these injuries and fix them if they do happen. This is whats happening in the world today.
