Day 16

Today we began reading Into the Wild. Can you imagine running off from your parents and having no contact with them? I talk with my parents all the time so I cannot imagine it myself. I wonder how lonely he was at times even if he thought he was doing the right thing for himself.

For this evening, ponder this quote and tell me how it may relate to you and to Chris McClandless:

"Pray that your loneliness may spur you into finding something to live for, great enough to die for."
Dag Hammarskjold (1905 - 1961)

This quote is saying that if your lonely enoguht that you can hope to find something to live for. This relates to Chris McClandless because he was alone in the wild. Chris McClandless was alone because he left his family. When he left his family he set out to do something that he wanted to. He was trying to get something to live for and die for. He was also looknig for a way to live his life. Chris McClandless was brave when he was lonley

This quote means that if your not fully satisfied with the life that your living, maybe you can find something worth living for if you spend some time alone. Maybe it could be also saying to take some time alone so you can figure out who you really are. I don't fully understand the dying part of the quote though. Maybe it could be saying you might find something really special in your life that will be very important to. Something that you would be willing to do almost anything for. This quote relates to Chris McClandless because he went out into the wild by himself. I belive he was leaving to find something worth living for. In his perspective I think he thought that education was and family was important but him he needed something more. Or he just simply wanted the experience.

This quote means many things to me. It means that if you are so lonely, hope that you can find something so passionate to you and do it, even if it means dieing. This seems like it's exactly what Chris McClandless did. Even though he excelled academiclly and sports-wise, he was lonely on the inside. Being on his own and being independent was something Chris wanted dearly since he was sheltered and given everything he ever wanted from his parents. So in result, Chris did something on his own, but also died. I don't think that there is anything out there that I would die for besides my family and loved ones. I know that they would take a bullet for me, and so I would take a bullet for them too. Overall, this quote is a quote very similar to Chris McClandless.

This quote is basicly saying that if you are lonely you will find something to live for. I didn't start reading the story but from what I"v heard the boy is all alone in the wild. He ran away from his family to find something to live for in life. If I was Chris McClandless I wouldn't have been able to run away from my family to find something to look forward to live for. I hope that I am never so lonely to where alls I have to look forward to is something to live for. I can't stand being lonely and all by myself. I really can't relate to Chris but I know I wouldn't want to be in his situation.

I think that what this quote is saying is that, if you are a lonely person, you should pray that somthing significant comes out of it. Like if you are living on your own, without anyone, pray that somthing good will come out of it. Maybe even something good enough so that your life isnt useless, and you die living for somthing. I think this may relate to Chris McClandless because maybe he had a thought like that in his head when he left everything behind. Maybe he thought that what he did was a good thing, and good things would come out of it. Somthing worth dieing for. But i think that is a really brave thing to do, and i honestly don't think i could ever leave everything i have behind.

To me, this qoute is saying that you should find something to live for. If you are lonely, go out and find something you like to do. Continue doing things until you have found one thing you are truly passionate about. This relates to Chris McClandless because, he left his family, and his whole life behind to figure out what he wanted. He went into the wild to find something worth living for. and he ended up dying. This quote relates to me because, I have been trying to figure out what's worth living for and great enough to die for. I have found one thing, my friends. I honestly don't believe I could ever just leave everything I know behind in the way that Chris MacClandless did.

In reading this quote by Dag Hammarskjold, I first thought that it didn't relate to me but could see how it related to Chris, but as I thought about it more, I realized it did relate to me. The quote relates to Chris because he basically detached from his family and friends, to make a journey where he would live in a world of his own thoughts. On this journey, we don't know how the people he came in contact with affected him, but from the way the book sounds, he was at peace with him self. For some people, like Chris, this is so rewarding that you could die for it, which is exactly what Chris did. How this quote relates to me; I once went through a period of loneliness but I came out of it with a whole new perspective of things and a new sense of independence. Sometimes you are lucky enough to come out of a period of loneliness with a whole new eye for things, and other times, you can't.

This quote is very interesting. I believe this quote is saying that if your lonely, think of ways you would die for. The story of Chris McClandles is a very interesting story. I still don't understand what could have been going through his head when he decided to start over after being so successful. He had money and a family that loved him. I guess that all the time he was alone would drive him to find something he would die for. Chris was very brave to go into the alaskan wilderness alone.

I personally i could never imagine myself running from home to live in the wild by myself. But i could imagining why someone would want to. Maybe if there already lonely or are just bored with life. Or maybe there sick of being ritch and cared for on everything and just have a real experience. The Quote to me means a few things. But mostly when i read it i think it means that you don't wanna wast your life being lonely so get out there and enjoy life. Or maybe if your lonely than do whatever makes you happy.

this quote is saying when your a run down beat up lonely and have no where to go, you would eventully find something to live for thats worth dying for. Like for most people it would be their families, especally their children. Went your lonley and have no one i don't really know what you would find that you would die for. maybe your dream to jump off a cliff and live and you willing to die for that dream. thats probibly completly wrong. anyways i havn't really found anything worth dying for but family of course. I don't realate to the lonely part of this quote tho.

this quote is saying that even though your lonely now dosent mean you'll be lonely. in Chris McClandless case he wanted to be lonely so he went to go live alone. when he left his family he changed his name, and gave away all his money. after he did that he went to alsaka and died up there and his parents didnt even know right away. personally i could not do that. i dont think i could live on my own just after i gave all my money away. that is what i think of this quote

this quote can mean many things depending on how you read it. what i think about this phrase is that even if you are lonely as long as you think your loneliness will blossom and help you find other means of companionship and make you more gregarious. Chris McClandless had nobody so he made the choice to live in the forest because that is what makes him ecstatic. now when he says "great enough to die for" he kept his word and died living how he wanted to. the whole sentence in my opinion means live life to the fullest and live it how you want. this is going to be a great book an i think i will be worth reading. that is what i thought about this phrase.

I think that this quote is saying that youre lonliness should drive you to find somthing to live for. Even if that thing your going to live for could kill you. I cant realy think of a way that this quote relates to me. But I think that this quote definentaly relates to Chris McClandless. Mainly because he went out into the Alaskan wilderness by himself and with nothing. Most likely he did this because he felt it was something he needed to do, something he had to do for his life to be complete. In the end it did kill him which is given right in the begining of the book. So this quote does definentaly relate to Chris McClandless.

When I read Chris's quote, I really feel like I understand what he is trying to say. He is trying to make the point that if you are alone, you truly find who you are with no influence from others and you just find the will to live for yourself and only yourself. When you are alone, you really understand what your own true morals are and what you want to live for. I feel like both me and Chris know how it is to be alone, and how much it can show you what you are really like. I believe that everyone who has ever been truly alone knows what I'm saying. Life lessons can emerge from this type of bliss. Lets all take the time to find out who we truly are.

This quote can mean so many things. When i hear this quote i think it is trying to say that when you are lonely you should try to motivate yourself, or in other words keeps yourself entertained. Also this quote adds "great enough to die for' in it. This makes me thing that when u try new things they should be out going and exciting so if u die while doing it you can pretty much say 'at least i died doing something exciting'. I think there are many different ways to take this quote. Looking at other peoples blogs i can see we all take it in different ways. The thing about this quote is the way the author wrote it gives you something to think about. He could have just came out and said what he wanted to say but he twisted it so you can think of it in your own ways.

This quote has a lot of meaning behind it. I think that it would also be awful not to see my parent as they are a big part of my life. I believe that the first part means when you are lonely you haver to find that thing that is worth living for. You have to find that something that is worth getting up in the morning for. I think that this thing can be many things. A lot of people might think of this thing you want to live for as person, but i think it can be anyting you enjoy. The second part to me means that this is something that you will stick to until death. This means everything in the world to you and you wouldnt mind dying for it. This is what I think this quote ment.
