So the movie was in black and white which probably was annoying to some of you. Yes, they do sometimes purposely make films in black and white to highlight the time they are supposed to describe. I truly hope you gained a greater understanding of McCarthyism based on this movie and how scary it was that in a country that is supposed to be open to differences that we focused in on a group like that. Yet, it was a scary time because of the invention of atomic and nuclear weapons and the fear that they would be used to overthrow our democracy. It is ironic that some of the greatest critics of Hitler in America where proponents of the McCarthy hearings. This rings true to the same feelings after 9/11 with Muslim Americans who saw their lives changed because of something that people they did not know or were not related to caused. It is scary what we will do when we are frightened by the unknown.

guilty until proven innocent means that unless you can prove you are innocent you will be held guilty. i feel this is a fair saying and a fair deal. because if you can't prove innocence, there is a high probability you are guilty. the part where they decided to go against mccarthy was a turning point of the movie i feel. they felt that freedom of press could be used as a way to turn people against mccarthy, their effort in vein.
I really liked the movie. I knew a lot of people who acted in the movie. Inccont until proven guitlty means that someone should get a fair trial. You should not get accused of something. I belive that everyone should get a fair thought. I also think that we should treat people equally. I THINKM THAT ITB TS HORRIBLE. I hate the way the country works.
Guilty until proven innocent meens that you will be called guilty until you can prove yourself innocent. this quote i feel is true in the movie. Mostly because if you cant prove yourself innocent you are mostlikely guilty. This movie was alot about McCarthyism. They decided to go against McCarthy was a big turnig pont i think. Goodnight and good luck is sybolism to the fear that was taking place during this time. No one wanted to agree with him.

Mr.Kay,
To me this quote means that in a situation where anything is possible we should respect the person and not assume that they are or did something. From the movie this is true because McCarthyism had alot to do with people being accused of being something their not without any proof. Also I found this to be true because People would be compared to their family if they were something that their parents werent. An example of that was a part in the movie when a man was giving a speech in the beggining about if his children would be questioned and investigated becuase of who he was. Or if his children would atomatilcally be compared to him simply becuse they were related.

P.S. sorry for only having 5 sentences but this movie was hard to understand.
I think that this means that McCarthy was no longer allowing the accused of communism a chance of clearing their name. He treated them as though they were already guilty. Based on the movie, it is very true because when they accused that woman, they treated her as though they already knew she was guilty. They did it in sort of a mocking way. Another example is that the guy who was in the air force got fired due to rumors. They wouldn't even show the proof (yellow envelope). None of the people got a fair trial which is plain out wrong. America must make sure never to let our rights be taken away like this again.

I think that this quote means that you are guilty until you are proven innocent. You are innocent until there is edvience that your guilty. I think that in that movie it used this quote. Everyone that goes in the system of court should always get a fair trail. No matter who you are they should hear you out. You cant just accuss someone of being guilty you have to hyave evidence. In the movie they turned on mccarthy and ended up using the story that mccarthy told them not to use.

This quote means that an era of people who despise communism and fear it is here. And that they accuse people before they get all the evidence straight. Like the movie there was some problems that people had with communism. In the movie a man was accused of being involved in communism before they new the truth. Although at the same time, the people that believed he was innocent didn't know the truth either. This quote is potentially true because it really happened before, the movie had a lot of things in it that were potentially true. I believe this because there were people being accused of communismin the movie, andat a time the same thing was happening in the U.S.

I think that this quote means that unless you can prove yourself innocent, then you are guilty. I agree with this quote, because there is a good chance you are guilty, until you prove that other wise. This quote was used in the movie and was true because, McCarthyism had a lot to do with accusing people to be something their not, and not even letting them prove innocent. McCarthy just assumed they were guilty without any proof. One example from the movie was definetly when everyone decided to go against McCarthy, and didnt agree with his decisions. Another example from the movie was in the beginning, when a man was giving a speech, and was saying how they will accuse his children becasue of who he is. And they will automatically be compared for being related to him.Clare Pathe

I think it means that if you could be guilty then until there is proof that you aren't you are considered guilty. This quote is kinda true because you could have been a commie but just didn't say you were. But that was like only a few people. All the rest of the inoccent people who were only thought to be commie really wern't. They got put in jail for someone thing they are a commie. Like the one Milo guy. His dad was a commie so then they thought that Milo was a commie. Or the other people who have been to meetings were all considered commie's when they weren't.

The quote for me is very hard to explain let alone understand the entire quote. The beginning states a era is happening and that the era is about McCarthyism. In the quote it talk about McCarthyism as being a chemical, which could mean that his ideas where like a deases that spread across the country. The second half is about the old quote or solgan for the country of "innocent until proven guilty" but it is now swiched. This means that you can be put in jail till you are proven innocent. In the movie there is one scene that shows the woman who is in court fighting to prove that she is not guilty. Normaly in court you have to prove that someone is guilty not having to prove that you are not guilty. Also the Air Force person was removed before the govermant had proof to let him stay in the Air Force. He was guility at the start then was innocent and in our courts you are not guility till it is proven. Yes i think this quote could be true in thos times based on the movie.

i didn't really enjoy watching this video. mostly because i was confussed a lot. sometimes they wouldn't come out and say what the point was of a situation. and i didn't have very much background information on what was happening back then. i think in this quote they are saying that there are always people susceptible to beliving someone with power. even if they dont have a good reason for doing what they are. they shouldn't just accuse someone of an act they might not of committed.

I believe the person who wrote this quote was referring to the era of McCarthysim and that those who are guilty of communism have to prove that they are innocent. Many people of that era were convicted of being a communist for small things such as being related to someone who believes in communism. Those people often did not get a fair trail, because the court was very bias against them. People were labeled "communist" until they went to court to prove their innocence. To do so, these people often had to give names of other communists they knew of to erase their name off the list. In the movie Milo Radulovich was accused of being a communist. I think that during this time and after 9/11 people were treated very poorly. Just if you knew someone who was communist or you were Muslim you were instantly treated differently. We let our fear get in the way of equality. I think they should have a reasonable case to take someone and accuse them of being communist or a terrorist, not just based on what religion they follow or what they look like. Many were mistreated in place of our assurance and that is not right.
this quote talks about how the scare of nuclear weapons was affecting, and still is affecting, people. the movie was taken place in the time around the cold war and the scare of nuclear weapons was rampant. the second part of the qoute, "guilty untill proven innocent" gives off the feeling that everyone is a suspect and you cant really trust anyone. that was also shown in the movie becuase people were being accused and tried of being communist. the quote applies to the movie in the way that its a fear of the unknown. that same idea was kind of a big thing fueling the cold war. so to me this quote means that you should maybe think twice before judging someone. like we did with the exercise with the red dots people had on their sheet of paper.

I think americans think that many people are guilty just because of their race or religion. when really, they will be innocent in the end. from 9/11, i believe america does treat muslims very different. in the movie, the air force guy wass good example. he turned out to be innocent. mccarthy was another example. i say this because he was making false assumptions. i think he should have gotten some sort of punishment from this. if you live in the united states, you should be able to believe in whatever YOU want to believe in. even though it was communism, you still couldnt take away peoples freedoms.

This quote states that many things contribute to the idea of McCarthyism. Chemical is the describing word that makes me think of many things being contributed. The era at hand says that this will be a long fighting period and there will be some conflicts. Everybody in America was afraid of Communism coming over to the US. McCarthyism is against communism in a strong manor. Everybody that came to the US was seen as guilty of being communist. These people had to show or prove that they were innocent one way or the other. For instance, in the movie there was a woman in court who was trying to prove her innocence instead of proving someone else guilty. Another great example would be 9/11. People that were Muslim or Arabic were viewed as terrorists. They had to show why they weren't like that and how they were innocent of this. The man in the beginning of the movie proves this point too because of he was, his children were seen or looked at differently.

This qoute is saying untill you are proven you didn't do it then you are still guilty. I think this is true because if you are never proven right then you have to be guilty. Also, related to the time of communism if you are guilty of it you will always be guilty unless proven innocent. This qoute is true because in the movie Milo was accused of communism and got fired because of it. Also, the whole news was all up in his business once that broke out. Another example i guess was the two that were arried and not suppose to be. They were guilty of it and then got caught being married, when they can't be. Last i don't think that it is fair to accuse people of something.
I believe that this quote is true to a certain extent. Yes, most of the time if you cant prove yourself innocent than your more than likely guilty. But for people back in the ear of McCarthyism they would be guilty of being a communist just if they were related or someone said they were. You can't really prove yourself innocent if people have it put in there heads that you are one. The only way you could was to say another persons name whether they were a communist or not they would go after them An example from the movie is when the guy who was in the u.s navy and people said he was a communist and so they threatened to kick him out of the navy. Another example from the movie was in the beginning, when a man was giving a speech, and was saying how they will accuse his children becasue of who he is. Personally, I don't think its fair to be predujice to people because who they know or even if they are something different. Like you said when we got into the groups , if you know someone and they are a good person, why treat them differently.

Guilty until proven innocent means your considered guilty until proven innocent by court of law. This is a very true quote in the movie. It seemed that if you had ben accused from some sorta crime you were guilty. The only way he was proven innocent was because of extra help. In sense it should almost be ths way. To prove your innocent would make sense because you must be involed unless innocent (of course if your caught on the seen). This movie was a tad hard to understand but I should have the point to the quote.
I think this means you try to find all of the evidence that prooves that person guilty. The less the eveidence fiding them guilty, the more innocense can be considered. In the movie when they were trying to find that ex pilot's dad guilty for reading certain magazines that made him look communist. Another example is when people already made up their mind that that one women was guilty, and treated her like it. Overall I thought the movie was pretty boring. First off it was in black in white, second off it was just boring. Although I felt it was a good time to just relax and chill.
deets
I believe this is true in the movie because the way people were sent to trial in the movie. A group of people were removed from their jobs and sent to court because someone they knew though of some communist ideas. The people who were innocent were fully accused of being "card carrying communist" in the movie. People started out guilty and had to fight to be innocent in court. Which is ridiculous becuase we are the home of the free. The government also felt a sense of insecurity and fear. That all the communist would gather together and overthrow them and destroy what we worked hard for. Which is understandable but they way they were test at court was not.

This quote is one of the major ideas of McCarthyism. In the United States judiciary system, we have a policy of innocent until proven guilty. During the Communism scare though, people started following the idea of guilty until proven innocent. Although someone may be completely innocent, they could be accused of being communist. If you didn't have evidence to prove yourself innocent, you were still guilty. Milo Radulovich was accused of being a communist just because he was associating with communist people. There was no solid evidence to prove this, but it still got him fired. Murrow was attacked for being communist by McCarthy just because he was friends with Hollenbeck (who was a communist). I find this idea to be an injustice to the citizens of America. When we move here, we should have freedom to think freely, but if you are not fully confident in your innocence, then some of that freedom is hurt.

I think chemical McCarthyism is when nuclear bombing came out and all these chemicals that would have been useful in overthrowing the government. Guilty until proven innocent means that there is not a single man or woman suspicious of being a communist. This quote is true in the movie because there were normal immigrants being accused of as communitsts. Some even used the harmful "chemicals" for suicidal reasons because of the public accusations of them being communist supporters. One news report in the movie accused a man of being a communist and when he heard about that he killed himself and many people were worried that destructive weapons would be used to get communism in America. As for guilty until proven innocent, you could see people were being blamed left and right and some of them were just regular immigrants coming to America.

Guilty until proven innocent. All in all, your fingered, your screwed! Well this is a very unfair process because there will be a hard time proving yourself innocent if your already doing jail time or facing getting any help with extreme difficulty because of discrimination. It was true in the 1950s that this "OMG IT'S A COMMIE!" came about. The fear of Communism drove so many people into doing so many stupid choices. Well to tell the truth the gov't could just make up evidence just to get you convicted, and until they had gotten evidence they jailed you. DO NOT PASS GO! DO NOT COLLECT 200 DOLLARS! This gave them time to come up with "real" evidence to prove you at fault. Generally, this is flawed. The animal that bites the most is not the angered one in the open, it is the fearful one cornered. If this process happened for too long the Country would be in total chaos(a understatement) of fear. It's
Strange how fear was useful in our time of evolution, now it just screws us over.

Mr. Kay,
I believe that the quote "An era of chemical McCarthyism is at hand, and "guilty until proven innocent" is the new slogan" is partly true because of the movie "Good Night and Good Luck". The quote inside the quote ("guilty until proven innocent") means that unless you have evidence that will prove you innocent, you are automatically guilty. In the movie, Edward said in the movie that McCarthy published him as a communist, that he was called a communist by him even though McCarthy's facts were wrong. Edward explained to the people who were watching CBS News that if he was called a communist because of some little things he did or things that happened to him, that alot of people would be called communists by McCarthy. I think that McCarthy didn't know what he was getting himself into, that he was to full of himself that he didn't realize what he was getting himself into.

Mr. Kay,
What this quote means is clearly said in its own. You arent guilty until you are proven to be. As Americans, we all jump to conclusions when we dont know if it is true or not. I know that school is the main place that this happens. One point in the movie when they were trying to use the freedom of speech to prove that McCarthy was the bad guy and they were good. I really thought that the idea od "Good night and good luck"was very important and turning point. It symbolized that people were truly afraid of what could happen.
Tim Wilson
First off I think the movie was boring and stupid and I was totally confused. I think that guilty until proven innocent means that whatever you have done or people think you have done you will be held responsible for that until proven innocent. This pretty much means that you can go to jail and you still might not be quilty. You can come out of jail when you are proven innocent or stay in if you are still guilty. The other part of the quote could mean that mccarthyism is a bad thing like a bad chemical of some sort and people are getting exposed to it. It may refer to the second half because people were becoming apart of mccarthyism and we didn't want them to be. We kind of looked at it like against the law or breaking the rules in some way.

I believe that this quote is trying to say that everyone should have a fair trial. If someone were to walk in, and they were already considered "innocent" just by reading the basics on the case, that's not right. Then another man who was considered a "criminal" he would of been guilty just based on his appearance. It's just facts that people judge one another by on what first meets the eye, if everyone was guilty then that had to prove to be innocent, it's a fair trial. A few examples from the movie would be, when the girl was on trial. They just assumed she was guilty, but not in the proper manner that goes along with the slogan. The treated her just like they would a criminal. Another example may be that Milo in the movie was accused of communism and they he ended getting fired for it.

This quote to me means that unless you their is something to prove you innocent, then you're guilty. I think that this is unfair and wrong. It should be the other way around, "Innocent until proven guilty" I think. I think it is unfair to acuse someone of being guilty of something without any proven evidence. This quote fits perfectly with the era of communism in the U.S. in the 40's and 50's. In the movie the Milo was accused of being a communist because his dad was accused also for reading a certain magazine. This quote is true in the movie because like Milo and his father, unless they had someone to prove themselves innocent, no one esle was going to believe them and they would be viewed as communist's. Another example of this was when the women was in court trying to prove herself innocent.

It tells me that this guy has turned the tables. He has stated that everyone will start off guilty and then needs to prove them selves. To me this is not right. This quote was related to the movie in a way that they believed anyone who was associated with a person that believes in communism is a communist. This really isn't true. I think they have made a mistake of accusing him of being communist is asinine. And really this lead to the end, making him commit suicide. I didn't like how they removed him from the air force before they could prove anything. Really this is kind of like 9/11 in a way that everyone think if you know some one that looks Arabic or from Iraq or what ever they are automatically seen as a terrorist.

To me this qoute means that, if you can't prove that you diddn't do anything than, you are guilty. Everbody deserves the right to a fair trial. Sometimes you don't have the prove that you diddn't do it. Some people who are really inocent are concidered guilty if they can't prove otherwise. But almost everyone who is proven guilty they will always say that they are inocent. I agree with this qoute. The man who got kicked out of the air force could have been inocent. Another example is at the beging when he is giving the speech. He said that his chiildren will be concidered guilty for what he has done.

I think this quote means that during the McCarthy era those they thought were communists were guilty of communism and had to prove their innocence. In our court system you are presumed innocent until proven guilty. The people during the McCarthyism were not treated fairly and shown in the movie today. In the movie people were being accused unfairly of being communist and put on trial without evidence. For example when Paul accused of being a communist just because his dad was at one point in his life. Also, in the movie there was a woman that was put on trial because they thought she was a communist and she had to prove her innocense.
6th hour
I think this quote is pretty self-explanitory. McCarthy was guilty for communism until there was some substantial facts and evidence that said otherwise. This can also apply to people's views on others accused of communism. For example, if you can't prove that your not a communist, people just assume you are. This isn't right to me. Whoever said this quote is just summarizing the reality of that time when everyone is accused of having communist beliefs just becuase they read a certain magazine, etc. I want to know where the freedom of speech and press and all those other first amendment rights went.
I live by guilty until proven innocent. No one believes in innocents until it can be shown. This is very fair and reasonable. If you cannot prove that you didn't do it than you must be guilty. This quote was shown all through out the movie. How with no evidence they felt that McCarthy was guilty just because his father read a scrip...I believe. It was something like that.

Mr. Kay,
To me, this quote means that if you do something, or accused properly about something, you are guilty unless you can prove that you are not. On the subject of communism, I think that this quote about McCarthyism is mainly talking about communism and how anyone could be accused of being a commy, until they are proven not. This also goes back to the lesson from yesterday where we talked about how someone would say, "You are a communist, tell us more," then the person would say a couple names and they would be accused of communism. They can't necessarily prove they aren't completely communist so you will always be viewed as a communist. I remember in the movie, some guy named Milo Rudolavich was accused of being a communist and no one really said, "No, he isn't a communist." I think the same thing with Murrow for being a friend of another communist, but he never was and he was never able to be considered, well, not a communist. They were both involved with communists, so they were believed to be communists themselves. Again just like the game we played, if, metaphorically, we were involved in communists (the red dots), we would not be allowed to do certain things America wouldn't let communists do. This is how I think if this quote.

To me it means that during the Red Scare and McCarthyism the system of innocent until proven guilty changed to the other way around. When it came to socializing or being related to someone that is a communist you were guilty. In the movie, Milo Radulovich worked in the Air Force. His father was accused of being a communist. The only proof was in an envelope that only a few people saw the contents. Milo was given the choice to renounce his father of be terminated from the Air Force. Similarly, after they accused her of being a communist. The lady that worked in the CIA and was accused of passing codes from the code room. To ensure this does not happen again this country should make sure the due process of law is followed.
I think the first part of the quote saying that McCarthyism is a chemical is referring to the domino affect. I say this because when a chemical gets into something it negatively affects that object. It may also spread into another object. I also believe that second part of the quote is true because even though you are legally innocent until proven guilty many already assume you are guilty because you got caught. THis happened in the movie when the Milo was kicked out of the air force for being a communist. When he really wasn't it was just a magazine of his fathers that got him trouble. Another example of this was when the two people were married and they both were working at CBS. They were guilty of this and they didn't even know what they were doing was the wrong thing.

I normally do not respond to the blog but just finished watching the movie myself at 8:30 p.m. It seemed pretty straight forward in what it was saying and how they went out to get McCarthy for the way he was dealing with people. More importantly, you guys need to clearly read the blog expectation each night. For example, it states that you need 2 examples from the movie and many are not doing so thus losing the points for the blog. Good night, and Good Luck.
I found the movie boring just to tell you. i feel that chemical mccarthyism mean a plot is at hand. also in the movie the plot i feel is to take down the government. also to ensure that there is no communism in america. i feel the saying guilty until prven innocent is wrong because everyone should have a chance to be innocent unless there truly guilty. i feel the guilty intil innocent means that really people are going to think you are guilty of what you are acused of. i also feel that this is a bad slogan to go by for the time of this movie is based on. i feel this way because the way the movie was, it was all plotted against the government and a way to take it down, thats how i feel about this quote.
“An era of chemical McCarthyism is at hand, and "guilty until proven innocent" is the new slogan.”
What does this quote mean to you? Based on the movie, how is this quote potentially true? Make sure you use two examples from the movie to prove this point and explain each example.
This quote is a direct contrast to our amrican governing system. This means you are quilty until proven innocent, the present US system is opposite. I think that this quote is true in the minds of predjudiced people. Like how many hate all muslims because of 9-11, and how some people hated germans because of hitler. they were looked upon as guilty for their nationality. In the movie the man who was in the navy and Burrow or whatever the main actor was were both accused of communism. i think that this attitude overlooks some good people in the world and traps them.
Guilty until proven innocent is a terrifying example of our countries past. Its scary that someone could be charged for an erroneous charge. Its like Milo from "Goodnight and good luck" Milo was guilty because he had acquaintances with reported communists. It is against constitution rights not to have a fair trial. What the government did to Milo was unjust and unfair. I think the movie expressed the fear of going against McCarthy. People were afraid to lose their jobs, and had the fear of getting accused of communism.
Guilty until proven innocent, i think this means that everyone gets a fair trial. Also, people that are really truely innocent, sit around, and dont try to prove the innocence. The people that are proven guilty, will most likely say they are innocent. examples, the girl on trial trying to prove her innocence. and milo i think it was, he was accused of bein a communist, because he looked up to his father, and his father believed in many of these things, and in the end milo got fired....

well i think it means unless you can prove your self innocent then you will be accounted for as guilty. The movie showed it was true by showing that McCarthyism had accusing people to be something their not. But not even letting giving them a chance to prove to everyone their innocent. all these people had to prove that they were innocent one way or the other. In the movie they were scared of communism. They didnt want it to spread all over the united states. I dont think its right for people to just accuse people for something basid of what they hear.
“An era of chemical McCarthyism is at hand, and "guilty until proven innocent" is the new slogan.”
i'm not going to lie, i did dose off a bit in this movie, and, sadly, I had actually wanted to see this movie really badly. I believe chemical McCarthyism might mean that it has taken over, and people wanted to be with that in crowd. and guilty until proven innocent i believe is very falsified in this movie, because, that man, forgot his name, wasn't even proven innocent, he was merely put in jail, and basically not given a court hearing. all because he was determined a " Security Threat". if that ever happened to me, i would lose all faith in our country. this is because, we have failed to live up to our hype. which i am now being scared iof more and more, because i am seeing a lot more of our flaws.
example one was the fact that the man wasnt tried essentially, and example 2 is the fact that his boss was a bit skeptic about murrow airing this story, because he doesnt want to turn the country away from him.

Guilty until proven innocent meens that you will be held guilty until you can prove yourself innocent. From the movie this is true because McCarthyism had done alot with alotof people being accused of being something their not without any proof of the situation. Milo Radulovich was accused of being a communist just because he was associating with communist people. Also, the whole news was all up in his business once that broke out.
I HATED THIS MOVIE. IT WAS SO BORING. THIS WAS A BAD PICK MARC!!!!
Guilty untill proven innocent means that you are guitly for what ever happened untill you can prove that your innocent. If you cant find a way to show your innocent, then your probally guilty. From the movie this is true because McCarthyism had alot to do with people being accused of being something their not without any proof. An example of that was a part in the movie when a man was giving a speech in the beggining about if his children would be questioned becuase of who he was. you cant really just accuse someone of being guilty when your not totally sure if they are. Just because someones parents are who they are doesnt mean their kids will be the same.

This quote means that until evidence shows that you are innocent, then you are guilty. This isn't fair because you can't just hold somebody guilty for something they may not have done. This is potentially true because in the movie they said that a lady was a communist but they didn't even know for sure. The man in the talk show said that the people accusing her had no way of telling if she really was a communist. Then their was the man the was kicked out of the air force because his father read a communist news paper. This isn't right because the man isn't his father and they shouldn't hold his dads decisions against the son. I don't think they should have been accusing people like this, they should have first proved t before they made their choices on whether or not they thought the person was a communist.
Guilty intill proven innocent means exctly how it sounds. Everyone has the potetntial to be guilty. Intill that innocence is found in you, you are just as guilty as anyone. But how McCarthy never had any real proof of his acusations. He just accused people of being Communists. An example from this movies was when the man had reseigned because of the acusations againsts his father. When he decided not to claim these as true he had to leave his job. Guilty intill proven innocent is not always the best way to handle a situation, but is often how most things are handled.

sorry
Sorry Mr. Kay but my power got shut off last night so I couldnt get online. No one I know in my neighborhood has interenet at this time. I figured since it was before noon you would'nt count it as missing... =/
This quote means that during the time when McCarthy was accusing all these people of being communist, they didnt start of as innocent. They all assumed they were guilty and the people who got chosen had to prove thier innocence. The people being accused didnt have fair trials at all. In the beggining they show a man on camera from dexter michigan who was accused. He says how his family and children will be put in this position with him, and maybe questioned. It efffected not only the person, but everyone that was involved with them would also be accused. ANother example is when the older black lady was on trial. They had no evidence but were convinced she was a communist. They women obviosly had no idea who or what they were talking about. She even states that she has never been in a coart room.

mr. kay,
Guilty until proven innocence is one of the assets of communism. This quote kind of makes sense to me in a way. I understand how people think that you are guilty, until you have evidence that your not. In no way am i saying that i agree with it though. In the movie milo is fired because he is accused of being communist. The news blew up about this. Also, in the movie the couple was married when they werent supposed to be. They were guilty of it for awhile.

I already talked to you today about why my blog is late...
Ok so I don't agree with the quote or with mccarthy. I think that what he did was wrong and just stupid and the quote isn't much better. Its basically saying that you are automatically thought of as guilty and people will look down on you for that. The only way to change is to be proven innocent. I think that it should be innocent until proved guilty. I guess the quote just goes to show how mccarthy thinks and that he isn't understanding and he's kind of mean. Really, I think that he was a communist. He basically took control of the country with fear and isn't that what hitler did? So this whole thing relates to the movie because there were examples of it many times. Milo was automatically assumed guilty of being a communist because he associated with communist people. Another example was when the news reporter was accused. They had like no evidence and the whole unfairness of it made him kill himself. Overall, mccarthy was bad and people should be given a chance.
Or if his children would atomatilcally be compared to him simply becuse they were related.

this quote talks about how the scare of nuclear weapons was affecting, and still is affecting, people. the movie was taken place in the time around the cold war and the scare of nuclear weapons was rampant. the second part of the qoute, "guilty untill proven innocent" gives off the feeling that everyone is a suspect and you cant really trust anyone. that was also shown in the movie becuase people were being accused and tried of being communist. the quote applies to the movie in the way that its a fear of the unknown. that same idea was kind of a big thing fueling the cold war. so to me this quote means that you should maybe think twice before judging someone. like we did with the exercise with the red dots people had on their sheet of paper.
